Editors' Picks: Our Favorite Things From the Week of Feb. 1110 of 13
Tribute of the Week
We were saddened to hear that film score composer Jóhann Jóhannsson passed away on Feb. 9 at age 48. The Icelandic composer had been writing music for film since 2000 but had come to prominence in recent years with extraordinary scores for The Theory of Everything (2014), Sicario (2015), and Arrival (2016), all of which generated major awards attention. His music ranged from soaring and beautiful to terrifying and other-worldly. With recent work including Mandy, The Mercy, and Mary Magdalene, Jóhannsson was just getting started. A great loss.
