Exciting New Series Acquisition of the Week
We're heading back to Middle Earth! Amazon announced that it will be bringing a multiseason TV series based on J.R.R. Tolkien's epic "Lord of the Rings" series to its streaming service in the not too distant future. There's a lot more story to be told outside of the tales covered in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings movie series, and Amazon isn't looking to rehash either, instead focusing on new stories that preceded Lord of the Rings.
With the end of "Game of Thrones" in sight, there will be a big gap in the epic fantasy series TV landscape. Many players are racing to fill it: Recently we learned that Andrzej Sapkowski's "Witcher" adaptation is coming to Netflix, Patrick Rothfuss' "Kingkiller Chronicle" is being developed for Showtime, and Glen Cook's "The Black Company" adaptation is being developed and looking for a network. It's going to be a great time for fantasy fans!
Feeling nostalgic? Check out the Lord of the Rings stars, then and now.
