So gonna make this with no spoilers
I really wanted to like this, but the remake just misses what made the original Lilo & Stitch so special.
One of the biggest issues? They completely lost the heart of the story. The original was about found family, feeling like an outsider, and growing into love and understanding. This version just kind of glosses over all that. They cut out some important characters who brought depth, and the new ones they added didn't move the plot forward at all-they felt like filler.
And then there's Lilo. In the original, her behavior came from trauma, misunderstanding, or just being a kid who felt deeply and didn't know how to express it. Here, it feels like they made her act out just to be bad. It wasn't quirky or endearing-it was out of character and kind of mean-spirited.
What really stings is the lack of emotional growth. The original gave us real redemption arcs and character development. Here, it's like everyone stays the same the whole movie. No payoff, no evolution.
Visually it's fine, and I'm sure some people might enjoy it on a surface level. But for fans who connected with the original's heart? This just feels hollow.

This could have been so good! The cast was perfect but there was a huge fundamental misunderstanding of the original movie and why people loved it.
I am in no way saying the remake needed to be exactly the same for it to have been a good remake. There are plenty of minor changes that didn't affect the themes of the movie. Changing the villain was dissatisfying, but ultimately didn't completely remove the impact of the story. Changing the ending for Nani and Lilo is the point that was too far. There is no way for that change to make sense while staying true to the message of the movie.
The epidemic of male writers mischaracterizing a beloved female character to unnecessarily "girlboss" her because they never understood her and think it's what audiences want to see needs to be stopped. In this new movie apparently Ohana means giving your sister over to the state.

It's not the worst live-action adaptation Disney has created but it does feel...unnecessary.
Some of the charm does remain intact like the original simple yet charming tale of Lilo and Stitch. The visual effects of Stitch is pretty good, alongside with the colors and production designs. Stitch's personality and charm still remains vibrant and charming. However, I have to ask myself that while I do appreciate it wasn't like a massive mess, it's not necessary for a remake. Disney live-action remakes have gotten so tiresome, to the point there isn't much to say really. Especially since the original isn't even that old.
The same criticisms I have with the live action remakes regarding the atmosphere approach, direction, writing changes, characters and arches remain the same. They feel convoluted and stretched out unlike what made the original classics good. Which makes some moments boring and not unique as the original is.
There are only a few positive aspects, but otherwise, my words are the same.

Not quite as good as the original, softened for modern audiences (I mean, really softened à la snowflake style). Acting is passable, graphics are pretty good, but overall the mildly dumbed down premise, lack of comedy and general lack of character progression just makes it boring.
A lot of the aspects that made the original cartoon enjoyable, and actually made the plot flow, have been dropped in favour of pushing a mildly modernised narrative, it seems to be trying (and failing) to showboat some comedic characters that just don't work. In many ways the directing style is reminiscent of 90s family comedies like Beethoven, only without the merit and charm.

The animated version of Lilo & Stitch is a very good movie. One of the best animated movies of all time and the narrative in that original is fantastic with 1h20min hour of pure gold. This 1h50min however... not so much.
Not that this is bad, it isn't. This is watchable, and I firmly believe that children will absolutely love this. I can safely say that you should bring your kids to see this.
But the movie is not that well made. The pacing is not on point, the aliens are kinda boring, and the big sister seem like a bitchy person. In the cartoon Nani is, according to me, the best character, here she is the worst one. The editing is not good, and those 30min extra compared to the animated version is not used for anything but dragging out scenes and adding more (useless) characters.
I did enjoy myself and there are a few of those heartfelt moments the animated version did so amazingly well, and this is not at all a bad movie. I give it a weak 6/10, and I recommend. But as parents and adults be warned; you might need to have a few drinks before...

The entire message of the movie is horrible! I have no idea why change a movie with a perfect message and turn it into this! The animation was good, the little girl playing Lilo was great and her chemistry with Stitch was really good. But those are the only positives I have to say. Her sister is a horrible person, the side characters are boring, some characters were completely swapped with worse ones and they made the comic relief characters annoying. Of course there were also indications of one character's sexual preferences (typical modern Disney) which was really forced... Disney keeps pushing the idea of following a career being more important than family and keeps removing straight couples from remakes... The political agenda forced into these movies is loud and clear. It was just a shell of its former shelf and truly a waste of time.
