The theme is strong. The acting as great, especially Fiennes manages again to find that extra level of nuance to his character and acting.
The story is told well. Nothing super spectacular, but It builds some intrigue and is sort of comfortable to watch thanks to the great setting that's being created and the level of acting.
In one way It's almost impressive how they manage to illustrate something from such a dry story really. On the other at times It really is slightly boring.
It could have been al saved by a proper ending to finish strong, but I found this the weakest part of the movie. It really felt pasted on without the impact I'm sure they wanted to make. All I could think was, really? That's some weak sauce. But, I don't want to get into the details and spoil.
So, solid movie to watch, but the ending is just a letdown. Wouldn't watch It again.

The acting is overall pretty weak. Even Edmayne doesn't impress me in this role. I don't feel the passion or chemistry with his wife either.
Lashana's cast I'm sure is simply for woke reasons, as I don't see how she could have been the best choice for that role.
But It's not just that, It's the overall plot and reasoning that also bothers me. Thinking that killing a man Is going to kill the idea or software of the company isn't convincing.
But also a lot of small things where I feel they wrote It to fit into the story, but don't make much sense thematically. It's a lot of those coincidental writing. And that the whole family is sitting on the couch to watch the announcement of "river" is also very far fetched. It's those things that makes the story not feel as a strong concept or immersive storytelling. It's very by the numbers and the re-imagining of the classic deserved more love imho. I didn't get immerse, at all!

Lets start with some positives. The acting and presentation are great. Especially Adam Driver shines, but Johansson does a great job as well.
Even though It's a very believable and accurate representation of a divorce, It's a very stereotypical and unsurprising story. It's actually so predictable "by the numbers psychology 101" with common movie-making techniques I was bored most of the time. I saw It coming from a mile away.
Since It didn't entertain much and mostly felt depressing, the question is, was It thoughtprovoking? Well, not really. It made me realise, as so often, how dissapointing humanity in many cases is, especially when they're angry. We become different people and yet, we keep being surprised of the fact. I guess the lesson is what I already knew: sign a prenup when you still love each other. A lot of people see It as unromantic or a lack of love, but this movie shows It's an act of love. Especially when you have children.
So how do you rate a movie like this? It's not badly made, but at the same time I feel I've wasted my time and rather would have done / watched something else. I guess I split It halfway.
