Sterling K. Brown's performance here, although restrained, is nuanced and intense. I've been watching him since he was on "Army Wives" almost twenty years ago, and he never disappoints.
It's challenging to talk about the plot without spoilers, but in this series, he is the lead Secret Service agent protecting James Marsden, the former POTUS. The story flashes back back five years a number of time, to give background on their relationship. There are a number of plot twists just in the pilot - the first of two mysteries is revealed early in the pilot, and another is revealed at the end.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the story and the characters develop, and can't wait until tomorrow to see episodes 2 and 3.

Like some other reviewers, I watched this based on her performance at the Tom Brady Roast and other roasts. I realize she's an insult comic, and that she likes to shock. That said, shocking for shock's sake does not equal funny.
I am not easily offended, but regardless of your views on reproductive rights, her opening set was just not funny. It consisted of one joke repeated ad nauseum, reminding me of the SpongeBob Squarepants episode where he got a laugh for ripping his pants and just kept repeating it incessantly, annoying everyone.
The Golden Globes is my favorite awards show, but now that she's hosting this year, I'm almost dreading it.

One woman leaves work. One woman greets another as she leaves work. The woman still at work seems to be learning to read and has a stutter.
The woman who leaves, is violently mugged outside and has a bottle of something poured over her. The young woman inside bangs on the window, distracting the muggers, which allows the other woman to escape.
The muggers go to the window and throw a bottle at it. The young woman tries to run upstairs, but of course stumbles and splits her head open.
Then she goes outside to pick up her co-workers purse, instead of calling the police. And guess what? The muggers are still there, waiting for her!
Such bad writing, if that's the best they can do to draw me in, they failed spectacularly.
