Jimmy Kudo and Rachel Moore are the main couple of "Case Closed". Ever since childhood, Jimmy and Rachel have been best friends and although they constantly tend to bicker, they share a very close relationship. However, unknown to both of them, Jimmy and Rachel are secretly in love with each other, but are too nervous to confess how they truly feel. Despite the fact they keep their feelings hidden and deny them if ever confronted, everyone is highly well aware of their mutual romantic feelings for each other and enjoy teasing them. Jimmy has always been in love with Rachel ever since they first met as children and Rachel eventually realized her love for Jimmy shortly before they began High School, a few years prior before the start of the series during a trip to New York City. Over the years, Jimmy has become a well known and famous High School School Detective and Rachel has become a Karate Champion.
However, Jimmy and Rachel would find themselves separated from each other. During a date to Tropical Land, Jimmy investigates a murder case and becomes suspicious of two Men in Black. By the end of the case, Jimmy leaves Rachel to follow them and Rachel feels as though she will never see Jimmy again as she sees him running away. Jimmy is quickly attacked by the men and is forced to ingest a poison that is suppose to kill him, but instead, Jimmy shrinks down to the body of a child. Jimmy is forced to keep his true identity a secret so as to not to endanger his family or friends since if the Men in Black ever discover his survival, they would surely come back to finish the job and hurt his friends and family in the process.
Since then, Jimmy has undergone the alias, Conan Edogawa and begins living with Rachel and her father, Detective Richard Moore to gain cases involving the Men in Black, hopefully to defeat them and acquire an antidote. In order to explain his absence, Jimmy excuses that he will be gone for sometime in order to solve a very important case and won't return until then. Since Jimmy's "departure", Rachel greatly misses him throughout the series, but remains devoted and waits patiently for him to return. Jimmy is very protective of Rachel and would to great lengths to ensure her safety, always willingly risking his life in the process. Jimmy hates to see Rachel upset, knowing the pain she feels waiting for his return and although he does wish to tell her truth, he focuses more on her safety as he couldn't live with himself if something were to ever happen to Rachel because of him. Although Rachel is unaware of Conan's true identity as Jimmy Kudo, she has come close to various times to discovering the truth until Jimmy manages to fool her into believing otherwise.
Jimmy and Rachel's relationship is the perfect definition of "So Close Yet So Far Away" since Rachel remains unaware that Jimmy has never her left her side and they are more closer than ever since he became Conan Edogawa. Despite their separation, Jimmy and Rachel's relationship continues to grow more stronger even if they are apart. Throughout the series, Jimmy and Rachel have attempted several times to confess their feelings for each other, especially in moments when Jimmy is able to temporarily regain his true physical body. However, do to either cases, the antidote wearing off or other events, they are prevented from confessing their love. Jimmy and Rachel also express jealousy on separate occasions when another person shows a romantic interest in the other. It's also been hinted that Jimmy and Rachel share a special link and can sense if the other is troubled or in danger.
Eventually, during a trip to London, Jimmy is finally able to at long last confess his love for Rachel, leaving her both in shock and happy. However, Rachel fails to confess own her feelings for Jimmy in return.
