Balto and Jenna are the main couple of "Balto".
Balto is a stray wolf dog, who is an outcast in Nome, Alaska by both humans and dogs alike who reject and bully him because of his wolf heritage. Jenna is a beautiful purebred husky and is the pet of a young girl named, Rosy, who unlike the rest of the town are the only ones who accept Balto and are one of his few friends. Balto is secretly in love with Jenna, but is somewhat shy around her, but is mostly afraid she won't return his feelings due to him being part wolf and finds competition for her affections from his rival, Steele, the main antagonist and beloved town hero. Balto attempts to get closer to Jenna, but his shyness keeps him from acting on his feelings, but receives encouragement from his adoptive father, Boris the Snowgoose.
Balto gathers the courage to approach Jenna and tries to ask her on a date, until he learns that Rosy and several children have all fallen deadly ill. Balto helps Jenna to find out more about Rosy's condition by taking her to the Boiler Room that secretly has underground tunnels beneath the town. Balto and Jenna begin to grow closer supports Jenna in her time of need and also shows her a special trick to illuminate the Northern Lights. However, their moment is interrupted when Steele tries to separate the pair and later frames Balto for stealing sausages Steele had taken, forcing Balto to run away despite Jenna's efforts to run after him.
Balto and Jenna's relationship grows from this event they with them becoming closer and their feelings for each other deepening and soon the dogs begin to become aware of their growing relationship. When a sled team is formed to retrieve the life-saving medicine for the children, Jenna supports Balto as he participates in a race to be apart of the team and stands up for Balto when she sees Steele bullying him and sabotages Balto's chance to be apart of the team. When the sled team become lost in the snow storm on their way back home from getting the medicine, Balto decides to journey out to find the team and bring back the medicine in order to save the children.
Balto and Jenna's relationship becomes closer and stronger as the film progresses. Jenna follows Balto on his journey to help him, but is forced to return to Nome when Jenna becomes injured. Jenna falls in love with Balto after witnessing his bravery and determination in saving the children and has great faith he will return. By the end of the film, Balto is held as a hero for saving the children and he and Jenna are happily reunited and becomes mates.
In "Balto II: Wolf Quest", one year has passed since the events of the first film and Balto and Jenna's relationship is strong and loving as ever and recently become parents to a litter of puppies. Balto and Jenna love their children unconditionally with most resembling their mother, except their daughter, Aleu, who looks even more like a wolf than Balto himself. When their children turn eight weeks old and are ready to be adopted, Balto expresses concern and hesitation about giving them up so soon, but is reassured by Jenna that they have to let their children live their own lives. The next day, Balto and Jenna spend the day with their children and watch over them as one by one they are all happily adopted and comfort one another.
However, by the end of the day, Balto and Jenna are saddened to find Aleu was the only one among their children who wasn't adopted due to her strong wolf appearance. Balto and Jenna reluctantly realize and accept she will never be adopted and decide to keep Balto's wolf heritage a secret from Aleu, wanting to a normal life as possible and not wanting her to feel ashamed of herself. A year later however, after an encounter with a hunter, Balto is forced to confess the truth to Aleu about her wolf heritage, causing her to run away. Balto informs Jenna of the situation, but assures he will find Aleu.
