Aladdin is a young man living on the streets who hopes of a better life for himself and Jasmine is the Princess of the Agrabah who is forced to choose a husband before her birthday, but wishes for a life of indepence and free to make her own choices.

Although they come from completely different worlds, Aladdin and Jasmine found themselves drawn to each other, both expressing how they feel trapped in their lives. Aladdin and Jasmine quickly developed romantic feelings for each other, but were soon separated when Aladdin was arrested by the palace guards and Jasmine’s true identity was exposed. Aladdin quickly realized he had fallen in love with Jasmine, but knew it was forbiddon since Jasmine was a princess and the law clearly stated she could only marry a prince.
However, when Aladdin gained the magic lamp with a Genie that grants him 3 wishes, he used his first wish to become "Prince Ali Ababwa" in order to be with Jasmine. Unaware of his true identity, Jasmine originally rebuffed his advances, seeing him as another spoiled suitor, until Aladdin let go of his princely persona and be himself did they become closer. Aladdin took Jasmine on a magic carpet ride, showing her the world outside the palace and the two fell completely and deeply in love. During the carpet ride, however, Jasmine recognised Aladdin as the boy from earlier and confronts him about his lies. Believing that Jasmine could never love him if she knew the truth about him, Aladdin claims he really is a prince, but often disguises himself as a peasant to "escape the pressures of palace life". Aladdin and Jasmine return to Agrabah and the couple share their first kiss and shortly after reveal their love to Jasmine’s father. The Sultan happily blesses their union and decides that as soon as they are married, Aladdin will become Agrabah’s next ruler, worrying Aladdin and causing him to feel guilty about his deception.
Although fearful of losing Jasmine, Aladdin decides to tell her the truth, but the kingdom comes under attack by Jafar who steals the lamp, conquers Agrabah and exposes Aladdin’s true identity to the royal family. However, by using his skills as a street rat, Aladdin is able to defeat Jafar and save Agrabah. In the aftermath, Aladdin apologises to Jasmine who forgives him after understanding his reasons, but the couple are heartbroken since now they can’t be together. Although Genie offers to use his last wish to restore Aladdin’s princely status, Aladdin instead keeps his promise and uses his last wish to free Genie. The Sultan having witnessed Aladdin’s heroic, noble and selfless actions, allows Aladdin and Jasmine to be together after seeing Aladdin prove his love for Jasmine and for saving Agrabah. By the end of the film, Aladdin and Jasmine officially become a couple and celebrate their engagement.
