Eris didn’t simply want the Book of Peace, but she knew Proteus would offer himself in Sinbad’s place and die, therefore leaving Syracuse without it’s next king. Eris believes Sinbad has betrayed Proteus, but not by abandoning his friend, but by stealing Marina from him, revealing her awareness of Sinbad and Marina’s love for each other.
Eris accuses Sinbad of having a dark heart, but when Marina defends him, Eris offers to prove herself wrong and return the Book of Peace if Sinbad answers one question truthfully; If Sinbad fails to retrieve the book, will he return to Syracuse to face death or sail away with Marina. Sinbad assures he will go back, but it appears he’s failed the test and him and Marina are kicked out of Tartarus. Failed in their mission to retrieve the book and believing Eris was right about him, Sinbad begins to believe he is a bad person after all, but Marina denies those claims, having witnessed for herself that Sinbad is truly a good person at heart and is unhappy with the whole situation as it’s not right for either Proteus or Sinbad to die.
Marina tries to convince Sinbad to escape and she’ll go back and explain everything, but Sinbad stops her, knowing it won’t work. Marina can’t bear to watch Sinbad die and tearfully confesses her love for him. Sinbad and Marina share a heartfelt embrace and Sinbad decides to return to Syracuse and take the punishment. Sinbad prepares for his death and Marina looks away, but suddenly the sword disintegrates and Eris appears before everyone, upset that her plan has failed. Sinbad realizes this was all part of her test and bounded by her word for all time, Eris concedes her defeat and returns the Book of Peace.
Sinbad is hailed as a hero, but decides to once again return to the seas with his crew, but sadly part ways with Marina since she must remain behind due to her responsibilities. Realizing Sinbad and Marina are in love with each other, Proteus releases Marina from their engagement, allowing her to follow her heart and life on the sea. Marina happily reunites with Sinbad, surprising him on his ship as they are leaving Syracuse. Sinbad and Marina officially become a couple and share their first kiss as they sail off into the sunset for their next adventure.
