Best Love Triangles2 of 21
Inuyasha, Kagome and Kikyo is the main love triangle throughout the course of the "Inuyasha" anime series.

Originally, 50 years prior before the start of the series, Inuyasha, a half-demon and Kikyo, a priestess fell in love with each other. Inuyasha sought out the Sacred Jewel that Kikyo was protecting in order become a full-fledged demon. However, as time passed, Inuyasha and Kikyo grew closer towards each other since they both felt like outsiders. Kikyo felt she could not be an ordinary woman and Inuyasha was looked down upon and ostracised due to his status as a half-demon. Inuyasha and Kikyo soon fell deeply in love with each other and wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. They decided to use the Sacred Jewel to transform Inuyasha into a human, thus purifying it and allowing Inuyasha and Kikyo to live their lives together. However, on the day of their meeting, Inuyasha and Kikyo apparently betrayed each other and as a result, Inuyasha was sealed to the Sacred Tree and Kikyo was killed.

50 years later, Inuyasha is awakened and freed by Kagome, the modern day reincarnation of Kikyo who travelled 500 years into the past. When they first met, Inuaysha and Kagome did not get along well with each other since Kagome reminded Inuyasha of Kikyo due to the strong resemblance. However, their relationship began to soften and they later realized they had to work together to regain shards of the Sacred Jewel when it was brought back into the world and was scattered all across Feudal Japan. In time, Inuyasha and Kagome continued to grow closer and closer and later began to develop romantic feelings for each other until finally realising they had fallen in love. However, their relationship faced an unexpected obstacle when Kikyo was revived and wanted Inuyasha dead for apparently betraying and killing her. Inuyasha was unsure and confused until he later found out the truth behind the events of their betrayal. Inuyasha discovered he and Kikyo were deceived by a powerful and evil demon called, Naraku in his goal to have the Sacred Jewel for himself. Inuyasha was determined to destroy Naraku and avenge Kikyo's death.

Inuyasha was faced with conflicting emotions and realized that although he is in love with Kagome, he also acknowledged he still loved Kikyo with all his heart and could not choose between them. From that moment forward, the love triangle between Inuyasha, Kagome and Kikyo began. The love triangle took it's toll and many times throughout the series, Inuyasha and Kagome had to constantly confront their feelings for each other. Kagome was unsure of the strength of Inuyasha's love for her, due to his lingering feelings for Kikyo and at times felt she could not compete with Kikyo for Inuyasha's love and affections. Kagome was jealous of the love and relationship between Inuyasha and Kikyo and knew they were always on each other's minds. Kagome faced heartbreak over and over again, but she realized that she could not bear to be apart from Inuyasha and thus decided to stay with him.

Originally, Kikyo wanted to send Inuyasha into the depths of Hell with her as she still believed him to be responsible for her death. However, after learning the truth about Naraku's involvement, Kikyo abandoned her goal and slowly yet surely, her love for Inuyasha returned, but now there was a newfound distance between them since her main focus now became of destroying Naraku over everything else. However, she silently longed to be together again with Inuyasha, but became jealous of the love and relationship between him and Kagome. Kikyo was envious of Kagome since she managed to heal the wounds in Inuyasha's heart. Kagome helped Inuyasha to open up, trust and befriend others and also healed the scars from his troubled past. Kikyo was also aware that Kagome had begun to take her place in the world. Throughout the course of the series, Inuyasha is extremely protective of both Kagome and Kikyo and would go to great lengths to save them from whatever danger. Inuyasha faces great guilt over his inability to choose between them and constantly receives criticism from his friends and is frequently called out for two-timing.

Eventually, the love triangle would finally be brought to end in "Inuyasha: The Final Act". Kagome and Kikyo began to make peace with each other and both grew to accept their jealousy over their mutual love for Inuyasha. However, following a previous battle with Naraku, Kikyo was slowly dying from the Miasma poison. Despite Kagome's best efforts to save her, Kikyo ultimately died, but managed to share one last moment with Inuyasha and found peace in the afterlife. Inuyasha was grief-stricken over losing Kikyo again, but in time, he finally managed to move on with his life and fell completely in love with Kagome, realizing she was always his one and only true love. By the end of the series, Inuyasha and Kagome get married and live together in the Feudal Era for the rest of their lives.
