To most film-goers, the the ratio of the width to the height of the screen makes little difference in their enjoyment of a film.

However, some ciliphines and most film-makers are obsessed with such things. It is not uncommon for a director to shoot test footage, experimenting with different aspect ratios, in order to get the correct 'feel' for his/her film.
