Best Agatha Christie
I've read all the books and plays. I have all the books and plays in paperback and/or hard back. I've been collecting all the movies. Except the ones that aren't my favorite. Might collect them too, just for comparison sake. So I'm making a list of all of the BEST movies.

- DirectorPhilip MartinStarsDavid SuchetTristan McShepherdSam CranePoirot investigates the murder of a shady American businessman stabbed in his compartment on the Orient Express when it is blocked by a blizzard in Croatia.By far the best version of this title ever. Poirot is supreme!
- DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsKenneth BranaghPenélope CruzWillem DafoeWhen a murder occurs on the train on which he's travelling, celebrated detective Hercule Poirot is recruited to solve the case.Featuring Kenneth Branagh as Poirot. He does not resemble Poirot in the least, other than the curved moustaches. Poirot is famous for his egg shaped body and head and his black hair and moustaches. Branagh does not even attempt to resemble Poirot! Sad! Even so, it is a great movie!! Loads of famous actors.
- DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsPeter UstinovJames MasonMaggie SmithAgatha Christie's Belgian sleuth, Hercule Poirot, solves the murder of an actress at a Balkan resort. For sheer amusement, Peter Ustinov is great as Poirot! Of the 6 films with Peter, This is the best. It tends to be a bit campy, but the performances are excellent and the soundtrack of Cole Porter music is great.
- DirectorJohn GuillerminStarsPeter UstinovMia FarrowSimon MacCorkindaleAs Hercule Poirot enjoys a luxurious cruise down the Nile, a newlywed heiress is found murdered on board. Can Poirot identify the killer before the ship reaches the end of its journey?Another great Ustinov Poirot film.
- DirectorPaul UnwinStarsDavid SuchetRachael StirlingAidan GillenLucy Crale enlists Poirot to investigate the 14-year-old murder in which her mother was hanged for poisoning her artist father.Love this episode. Music is beautiful. The story is just so moving and sad. One of my favorites.
- DirectorTom CleggStarsDavid SuchetHugh FraserRon BerglasWhile Poirot is on holiday in Iraq, the wife of the head scientist at an archaeological dig confides to him that she is the target of threatening letters. For some reason, I really like this movie. It isn't one of the more popular or famous Christie movies, but the motive behind the killing is chilling.
- DirectorNicolas Winding RefnStarsGeraldine McEwanLaura Michelle KellyDan StevensMiss Marple and her nephew, novelist Raymond West, embark on a coach tour of historic English houses with an eclectic group of characters at the behest of a late friend who had knowledge of an unsolved murder.Best Miss Marple who goes after a killer as nemesis. Her friend from A Caribbean Mystery, Mr. Rafiel, requests her assistance in solving an old crime.
- DirectorMaurice PhillipsStarsDavid SuchetPhilip AnthonyRobert BathurstWhen a man disinherits his sole beneficiary and bequeaths his wealth to others just prior to his death, Poirot is called in to investigate.Very clever twist in this mystery. Unexpected.
- DirectorAndrew GrieveStarsDavid SuchetPhilip JacksonOliver Ford DaviesPoirot comes out of retirement when his industrialist friend is brutally murdered a short while after a local widow who was suspected of killing her husband commits suicide.Excellent movie.
- DirectorDavid GrindleyNicolas Winding RefnStarsGeraldine McEwanJulian SandsZoë TapperA wealthy woman holds a party at her Devon estate for family and friends. When a solicitor and the hostess herself are both murdered, Miss Marple tries to find a clever killer with a devious plan.Excellent episode, however is not a Miss Marple story. Detective Battle is the detective in the book. However, they have managed to fit Miss Marple in nicely. Geraldine McEwan is the best Miss Marple Actress.
- DirectorRobert Michael LewisStarsHelen HayesBarnard HughesJameson ParkerWhile Miss Marple is on vacation in a luxurious Caribbean resort, a fellow guest confides he has evidence that another resident of the hotel is an unscrupulous serial murderer but is poisoned before he can reveal his identity to her. With Helen Hayes as Miss Marple. This is a really enjoyable version of this book. One of my favorites. Barnard Hughes is exceptional as the incorrigible Mr. Rafiel.
- DirectorSimon LangtonStarsDavid SuchetJonathan CakeMegan DoddsPoirot stumbles on the murder scene of philandering Dr Christow in a country house as his wife stands next to him with a revolver in her hand.Excellent episode and also very sad and moving.
- DirectorMichael WinnerStarsPeter UstinovLauren BacallCarrie FisherWhen a former prison wardress who dominates the lives of her three adult stepchildren and her daughter is found dead at an archaeological dig near the Dead Sea, there are a great many suspects.
- DirectorClive DonnerStarsPeter UstinovJean StapletonConstance CummingsDuring a murder hunt game at a country house, to which Hercule Poirot is invited as an "expert", a real murder occurs.Another great Poirot. Unfortunately, Jean Stapleton as Ariadne Oliver is not a good fit. Neither is Hastings.
- DirectorAndy WilsonStarsDavid SuchetJenny AgutterPatrick BaladiA young widow is left in sole possession of her late husband's fortune, her brother who dominates her refuses to let her share it with her in-laws, so they enlist Poirot to prove her missing first husband might not be dead. This story is sad, romantic, sad and moving.
- DirectorEdward BennettStarsDavid SuchetPhilip JacksonVernon DobtcheffThe tyrannical patriarch of a dysfunctional but wealthy family summons his adult children for a Christmas reunion, but prior to the holiday his throat is slashed apparently by one of them.Excellent devious plot. This is in my Christmas Movie Collection to rewatch every year.
- DirectorRenny RyeStarsDavid SuchetHugh FraserPhilip JacksonWhile Poirot is staying at an exclusive Cornish resort, he meets a beautiful heiress whose life is in danger.
- DirectorBrian FarnhamStarsDavid SuchetHugh FraserPhilip JacksonPoirot's rehabilitative health retreat on an island resort becomes an even more stimulating mental exercise when a flirtatious film star is found strangled on a nearby beach.Good movie. I like the other version with Ustinov more- it's more campy. This one is very serious.
- DirectorBrian FarnhamStarsDavid SuchetHugh FraserPhilip JacksonA beautiful actress becomes the prime suspect in the murder of her tyrannical husband - except that she has a cast-iron alibi for the night of the crime. This is a remake of the movie Thirteen at Dinner and is by far a better movie. The acting is much better.
- DirectorAndy HayStarsJulia McKenzieNicholas ParsonsLynda BaronMiss Marple's priest friend is battered to death after visiting a dying woman. Seeking justice, she becomes entangled in an organization centered around an inn run by purported witches. This episode is not originally a Miss Marple story. I think the book is much better.
- DirectorDavid MooreStarsJulia McKenzieTom HughesAneurin BarnardMiss Marple investigates the downfall of an optimistic young couple who ignored the warnings of a gypsy and built a dream home on allegedly cursed land.Another Christie tale that does not involve Miss Marple, unlike this episode.
- DirectorStephen WhittakerStarsDavid SuchetPhilip JacksonSarah WoodwardWhile Poirot sleeps on an airplane flight from Paris to London, a notorious French moneylender is murdered with a poisoned dart.A good episode. Mediocre plot.
- DirectorRoss DevenishStarsDavid SuchetHugh FraserPhilip JacksonHastings renews his friendship with Poirot and involves him in the mysterious poisoning of the mistress of a manor house married to a man twenty years her junior.First full movie featuring David Suchet as Poirot. Hugh Fraser as Hastings. Suchet is the best Poirot ever. Looks like him, acts like him. None of the other actors in other Christie movies approach the character as well as Suchet. Hastings is also very good. Other Hastings' are presented as silly and stupid.
- DirectorAndrew GrieveStarsDavid SuchetHugh FraserPhilip JacksonPoirot receives taunting letters from a serial killer who appears to choose his victims and crime scenes alphabetically. This is a good episode, but I do not care for this movie. Don't care for the way the framed Murderer is treated.
- DirectorRoss DevenishStarsDavid SuchetPhilip JacksonJoanna Phillips-LaneAfter Poirot pays a routine visit to his dentist, the doctor apparently shoots himself to death a short time later. Chief Inspector Japp appropriately recruits the detective as both witness and consultant.Good plot.
