When it comes to Hollywood’s handsome hunks, no one can beat George Clooney. Think of charm, sophistication, and that dazzling smile that graced red carpets and screens for decades. But behind that aura lies a career that’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, especially when it comes to the box office.
Sure, Clooney’s Hollywood royalty, but his journey in the film industry has had its fair share of big wins and surprising stumbles. Take Gravity for instance, a cinematic masterpiece that grossed a hefty box office success and cemented Clooney’s place as a bankable star. But besides floating in space with Sandra Bullock, Clooney went through challenges before hitting another jackpot.

An enterprising surveyor of genre and tone, Ridley Scott has earned the admiration of audiences and critics alike with a seemingly unending interest in exploring the outermost limits of his art form. The British director broke onto the scene in 1977 with “The Duellists,” a French period drama starring Harvey Keitel and Keith Carradine set during the Napoleonic Wars. He returns to the early 19th century with Joaquin Phoenix as its namesake historical figure with the epic “Napoleon,” in theaters November 22.
“I first became aware of Ridley Scott with his film ‘The Duellists,'” Francis Ford Coppola recently said of Scott’s debut in an Instagram post. “I was impressed, and realizing he was my contemporary began following his work, which was prodigious to say the least. One after the other, different styles, themes — all ambitious and never stopping, absolutely great films like ‘Blade Runner,’ ‘Thelma & Louise,’ ‘Alien,’ and ‘Black Hawk Down....

Wolfs (2024), the new Apple TV+ movie, has an ending that cleverly throws a last curveball your way. If you, like me, were so engrossed in drolling over George Clooney and Brad Pitt in that all-black attire, you might even get confused about how this silly job gone wrong caper leads to the final reveal that turns everything on its head.
Directed by Jon Watts, who returns to the real world after making the pretty successful Spiderman trilogy in the MCU, the film stars the aforementioned actors as two fixers who get assigned to clear off a dead body when a high-end District Attorney (played by Amy Ryan) places a Sos call.
In the following article, I will take a detailed look at what happens during Wolfs (2024), carefully analysing what Watts wants to show, what has already happened off-screen, and how that ending really comes together. Please be aware that the article contain spoilers,...

Nicolas Cage’s status as a national treasure is being cemented by the Metrograph.
The New York City-based theater has announced a “Nicolas Uncaged” festival to honor the acclaimed star. The 10-film retrospective opens November 8 at Metrograph In Theater, and will feature 35mm showings of “Con Air,” “Moonstruck,” “The Wicker Man,” and “Wild at Heart.”
“Heaped with praise and panegyrics as one of the finest screen actors of his generation, pilloried and parodied as an anything-for-a-paycheck hambone with a weakness for weird wigs and prostheses, Nicolas Cage is a one-man sideshow, a mixture of Marlon Brando, Robert Mitchum, Lon Chaney, and a stick of TNT who takes back ‘serious thespian’ prestige whenever he wants to, dives into grindhouse material and Academy Award hopefuls with the same mad enthusiasm, and never seems to be having anything less than a total blast in front of the camera,” the Metrograph press statement reads.

When talking about Pulp Fiction 30 years later, Bruce Willis’ performance is not something that immediately comes up in discussions. Willis’s character Butch was one of the more conventional characters in the film, which was filled with image-breaking performances. However, Willis’ stardom gave a significant boost to the film at the time of its making.

Interestingly, Willis was not a name that Quentin Tarantino ever had in mind for the role. It was Harvey Keitel, who played the role of Winston Wolfe, who introduced the Die Hard actor to Tarantino. At the time, Willis was one of the only A-listers among the cast.

Pulp Fiction is the rare film that’s simultaneously a cult classic, a commercial smash, and a critical darling, and this month marks 30 years since its release in theaters. It’s easy to take for granted how unlikely its success was — it’s not often that a hyper-violent, nonlinear indie movie wins the Palm d’Or and breaks $200 million at the box office.

Quentin Tarantino once said that good actors always rise to the occasion. His 1994 masterpiece Pulp Fiction gave a lot of would-be A-listers that platform to prove their worth to the world before the world knew them as Hollywood G.O.A.Ts. Now, Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Walken, Uma Thurman, and Tim Roth walk in the hallowed halls beyond Sunset Boulevard.

Pulp Fiction proved so monumental to the reinvention of Hollywood genre movies after the ’60s that even the then-washed John Travolta found a renaissance within the unforgiving film industry. Tarantino quickly rose from the ranks of a novice video store clerk to one of the greatest directors of all time, with such independent attention to detail that even his crime films are reconciled in the public eye as art films.

Seinfeld witnessed some of its funniest moments when the parents of our iconic leads graced selected episodes. The NBC show often featured the parents as supporting characters. Surprisingly, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character Elaine Benes’ parents could never be a prominent part of the show.

Happy 30th to Pulp Fiction. Quentin Tarantino made a grand entrance with Reservoir Dogs, but it was 1994’s Pulp Fiction that solidified him as the director to watch with his unique brand of intermingling stories and 70s-inspired aesthetics. There’s no breaking Samuel L. Jackson’s concentration.
After 30 years, the Oscar-nominated star has “still got it,” reciting the iconic Ezekiel 25:17 Bible verse from memory in one of his standout scenes in a commemoration post for Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction.
In the clip for the seminal crime-comedy’s 30th anniversary, Jackson is seen sitting on a couch casually reciting the passage that describes the extent of the Lord’s anger and vengeance. Nary stumbling over his words and occasionally changing his tone for dramatic effect, the veteran actor recites it in its entirety.
“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and goodwill, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper, and the finder of lost children.

Over the last decade, companies like Netflix, NBCUniversal and Cinelease have committed an enormous amount of capital to filming in New Mexico. That development, along with attractive tax rebates from the state, has enabled Santa Fe to blossom into an enviable production hub.
The combination of that growth and a forward-thinking creative community has also helped generate a unique, on-the-rise energy to the Santa Fe International Film Festival, which in 2024 earned a place on Moviemaker Magazine’s list of “50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee” for the second year in a row.
Nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the festival offers up a rare mixture of natural beauty, professional networking opportunities for up-and-coming artists, and superbly curated programming. Returning for its 16th edition October 16-20, this year’s theme is identity and collective humanity — exploring what makes a person distinct while also binding them to one another.

the stage and screen icon won two Oscars, four Emmys, and a Tony in her legendary career.
Dame Maggie Smith has been a near-constant presence on stages and screens around the world since the 1950s. Sadly the acting icon passed away on Sept. 27, 2024 at the age of 89. Smith had an uncanny ability to thrive in both comedic and dramatic roles, in period pieces and fantasy epics. During her career, she won two Academy Awards, four Emmys, three Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony. In 2003 when she won her first Emmy for “My House in Umbria,” she became just the 15th person to ever secure the Triple Crown of Acting, winning an Oscar, Emmy, and Tony. To date, there have only been 24 to accomplish the feat.

Plot: Two top-level fixers (Brad Pitt and George Clooney) with underworld connections must overcome their rivalry when a job goes awry.
Review: Wolfs is getting a curiously unceremonious release, considering the talent involved. There was a time when Brad Pitt and George Clooney doing a buddy action movie together would have been an event. And the movie’s good to boot! Yet, Wolfs, which comes from director Jon Watts, who made the Tom Holland Spider-Man Trilogy for the MCU, I only got a quiet one-week theatrical run before its debut on Apple TV Plus on September 27th. It’s playing on precisely one screen here in Montreal and was not screened for critics.
So, what’s going on here? Probably, Apple is still licking its wounds from the embarrassing failure of their mega-budget movies, Argylle and Fly Me To The Moon, which, despite huge casts, cratered at the box office.

After publishing a page-turning memoir – Runaway Train: The Story of My Life So Far – actor Eric Roberts is letting skeletons out of closets with stories and reveals related to his lengthy and storied career. Roberts’ book covers a lot of ground. Still, one story about a missed opportunity with Martin Scorsese is making the rounds online. Luckily, our Editor-in-Chief, Chris Bumbray, is quite the bookworm for reading about Hollywood’s inner workings and secret stories and is currently thumbing through Roberts’ memoir.
In the book, Roberts talks about rejecting a primary role in Scorsese’s 1988 drama The Last Temptation of Christ, in which the filmmaker offered him the role of Jesus.
“So when I was asked by Marty Scorsese to audition for the role of Jesus in The Last Temptations of Christ, I thought, Here’s my chance to break out of the straightjacket of typecasting and work with a master,...

On September 15, 2023, three-time Daytime Emmy Award winner Billy Miller passed away following a lengthy battle with bipolar disorder, just two days shy of what would have been his 44th birthday. Two months later, his death was officially ruled as suicide by the Travis County Medical Examiner.
On the first anniversary of his death, and just two days short of what would have been his 45th birthday, fans of the beloved actor took to social media on Sunday to share thoughts and memories of Miller, including photos, videos and other forms of media.
“He was the best actor! He could take on a role and make it so good! Rest In Peace Billy you are so missed,” said one user on X (formerly Twitter). “Billy, you’ll always be remembered this way – you will get the justice that you deserve. Thank you for sharing yourself with the rest of us,” said another.

Director Ridley Scott told Deadline in 2023 that he’d been offered to direct superhero movies, but that it wasn’t for him, after telling them in 2021 that modern superhero movies are “no fucking good” and “boring as shit.” He said he’d already directed at least 3 superheroes: Ellen Ripley in Alien, Rick Deckard in Blade Runner, and Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator. “The difference is,” Scott said, “the f*cking stories are better.”
The case can certainly be made that Ridley Scott has brought some of the best stories to screen that we’ve ever seen, and Alien, Blade Runner, and Gladiator are among them, but what about his more modern fare? Are the stories for House of Gucci, The Last Duel, and Napoleon “better”? Ridley Scott hasn’t had a movie achieve both critical and commercial success since 2015’s The Martian, which begs the question: Wtf happened to Ridley Scott?...

Aside from members of the “eight-year-olds who have been abandoned by their parents at Christmastime” community, pretty much everybody loves Catherine O’Hara. Now the Schitt’s Creek star is appearing in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, reprising her role as Delia Deetz, aka the most unfairly maligned artist of our time.
Arguably one of O’Hara’s most underrated performances can be found in an existential black comedy directed by legendary filmmaker, and archenemy of YouTube Marvel bros everywhere, Martin Scorsese.
If you haven’t seen it, 1985’s After Hours is about a horny nine-to-fiver who just can’t find his way home following a late-night date that goes disastrously wrong. O’Hara plays a Mister Softee ice cream truck driver who befriends the doomed protagonist, Paul, before quickly turning on him and leading the vigilante mob hell-bent on taking him down.
How did one of Canada’s greatest comedy stars connect with the director of Raging Bull?...

At first glance, Wolfs, the first non-Spider-Man film from director Jon Watts since 2015’s Cop Car, seems to be something of a Pulp Fiction/Quentin Tarantino riff. There’s that deliberately grammatically inaccurate title, which nods to Harvey Keitel’s character from that film, a well-dressed man who ‘solves problems’ when a dead body unhelpfully shows up. There’s a MacGuffin in a bag. There’s a junkie who gets a shot of adrenaline. There’s even a Pov shot from a car boot.
In fact, the director Watts is aping here is Shane Black. To its snowy, Christmas-set core, Wolfs is a Shane Black movie that Shane Black never got round to making. It doesn’t quite share his talent for witty dialogue or outlandish action, but it has the Black sensibility down, telling a story about — as one character puts it — “an absolutely fucking clusterfuck of a mess”. And it has,...

Wolfs is an interesting reminder of the route writer-director Jon Watts might have taken if he hadn’t fallen into the Spiderverse, being an amplified version of his 2015 Sundance debut Cop Car. That film starred two unknown kids in a kind-hearted crime caper reminiscent of Spielberg in his Sugarland Express days; this one leans into After Hours-period Scorsese, and stars two of the most famous people in the world. Though they have a lot of fun with it, the familiarity of the two graying matinee idols as they bicker and snark through an effortless but also slightly weightless genre romp leaves one with the sneaking suspicion that, at times, they might be having a bit more fun than we are.
Most likely inspired by Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction and the character of Winston “The Wolf” Wolf (as played by Harvey Keitel), this is a whole movie devoted to a character...

Can movie stars stay cool forever?
That seems to be the big existential question underscoring the clever, impeccably directed if rather flimsy action comedy Wolfs, which reunites Brad Pitt and George Clooney, who most memorably chummed it up together in the Ocean’s trilogy. Back then they were two of the biggest actors on the planet, and even an effort like the Coen brothers’ Burn After Reading — which marks their last onscreen team-up — grossed over $160 million while remaining totally offbeat and frankly uncommercial.
More than a decade later, both stars are in their 60s and the movie business clearly isn’t what it used to be. Case in point: Wolfs, which was supposed to be released wide by Apple, will roll out for a one-week limited theatrical run before going straight to streaming. Is it because Pitt and Clooney can no longer draw the crowds they did in their heyday?...

With a career spanning over 50 years, Sigourney Weaver has showcased her versatility across Broadway, television, and film, creating iconic heroic characters in both dramatic and comedic roles. Her remarkable talent has earned her three Academy Award nominations.
Born Susan Alexandra Weaver on October 8, 1949, in New York City, she adopted the name Sigourney at age 14, inspired by a character in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby.
Weaver graduated from Stanford University and obtained a master’s degree from the Yale School of Drama. Even as she found fame and success on the screen, she would maintain her love for the stage throughout her career. Her many theater credits include four Broadway productions: Sir John Gielgud’s production of The Constant Wife in 1975, the groundbreaking 1984 production of David Rabe’s Hurlyburly opposite William Hurt, Harvey Keitel and a newcomer named Cynthia Nixon, and the 1996 production of Sex and Longing, written...

A remake of John Woo’s groundbreaking action movie “The Killer” has been in the works since shortly after it premiered in 1989, but it took until 2024 for it to finally materialize — from Woo himself.
Over the years a number of filmmakers took a stab at adapting the beloved Hong Kong action movie, about a hitman (played by frequent Woo collaborator Chow Yun-Fat) who accidentally blinds a young girl, including “Alien” principals Walter Hill and David Giler, “Top Gun” writers Jim Cash and Jack Epps, Jr., and Korean-American filmmaker John H. Lee. There would be announcements made every so often, but very little forward momentum.
While development creeped along, Woo made his way to Hollywood, directing a series of highly regarded, star-filled action movies like “Hard Target,” “Broken Arrow” and “Mission: Impossible II,” which grossed more than half a billion dollars worldwide back in 2000. The style he developed in Hong Kong...

Harvey Keitel and Britt Robertson have teamed for comedy-drama “The Letter,” now in its final week of filming in Buenos Aires, with Rodrigo H. Vila directing.
Written by Vila and Sebastián Meschengieser with script collaboration from Andy Weiss, the film follows Finn (Keitel), an old war veteran, who wants to write a goodbye letter to his only daughter. He decides to hire failed writer Julia (Robertson), who is desperate for money. The two, each feeling lost in their own ways, form an unusual yet endearing friendship that ultimately transforms both their lives.
“The Letter” marks the second collaboration between writer, director and producer Vila and Keitel. The two first worked together on the 2019 sci-fi thriller “The Last Man.”

Alien: Romulus filmmaker Fede Alvarez is totally open to doing a revamped Alien vs. Predator movie, but he’ll need a little help.

20th Century Fox released two Alien Vs. Predator movies; one in 2004 ($177.4M WW) and the second, Aliens vs. Predators: Requiem, in 2007 ($130.2M WW box office). Celebrating 30 years of excellency, Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction is coming back to cinemas in glorious 4K. More details below.
It’s hard to believe that Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction turns 30 years old, but here we are. We’re still convinced that the film came out only a few years ago, but apparently 1994 was 30 years ago. How time flies.
The film is heading back into UK cinemas to celebrate its landmark birthday and this is your chance to see the film in 4K, too. You can catch Pulp Fiction in cinemas from 23rd August.
Pulp Fiction was Tarantino’s second film and arguably lifted the filmmaker from a talent to watch to Hollywood royalty. The film starred John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer, Maria de Medeiros, Ving Rhames, Eric Stoltz, Rosanna Arquette, Christopher Walken and Bruce Willis and they’re pretty excellent too.

The Oceans duo are back on the big screen in the final Wolfs trailer – a buddy crime caper from Jon Watts.
2001 called, and they want their leading men back.
That’s right, it’s the Ocean’s Eleven reunion we’ve been waiting for. Brad Pitt and George Clooney are starring as rival ‘fixers’ in Jon Watts’ first feature post-Spider-Man: No Way Home, with a title apparently stolen from Harvey Keitel’s character in Pulp Fiction.
My head hurts. Here’s the final trailer for Wolfs…
And here’s the first trailer, from earlier this year…
True to the name’s Tarantino roots, Pitt and Clooney co-star as a pair of, er, specialist cleaner-folk, both hired to dispose of the same body at the same time. Cue hijinks, a few drugs and a gunfight or two – you know the drill.
The trailer drops at an auspicious time for the big-screen action-comedy genre.

The story speaks for itself, right? I mean, we know that the horrors that happened at Auschwitz. It’s just unimaginable and because of that, the music itself has to also be unimaginable and unthinkable,” she explains during our recent webchat. “We really wanted to create this abstract environment that subtly supported the characters, let them lead the performance and never be epic because it just immediately feels wrong and disrespectful. And the last thing we wanted to do was overstep, especially in a series like this. It’s not just a story. It’s literally somebody’s truth, so...

Although producer Jerry Bruckheimer said two years ago that there was a “really good” script in place and awaiting Cage’s approval, it must not have met his approval, because screenwriter Ted Elliott revealed to the National Treasure Hunt podcast that he has been working on the project for the last year and recently completed his first draft of the script.

The Piano, 11.05pm, BBC2, Monday, August 5
Jennie Kermode writes: The story of mute Scotswoman Ada (Holly Hunter), who is dispatched, along with her daughter (Anna Paquin), to the other side of the world as a mail-order bride, Jane Campion's assured and visually stunning drama made her the first woman to win the Palme d'Or and only the second to be nominated for a Best Director Oscar, while Paquin became the youngest ever winner of a Best Supporting Actress Oscar. Robbed of her voice when her inconvenient instrument is sold to plantation owner George (Harvey Keitel), Ada seems to speak for thousands of women whose stories have been erased by history. She suffers constant verbal abuse and rejection by her new husband, but there's a formidable, resilient quality about her, and when she makes a deal with George, allowing her to gradually recover the piano, what begins as something.

This might just be a coincidence, but lately there’s been an influx of films and shows centering around the Holocaust. Be it the Anthony Hopkins starrer One Life (2023) or Peacock’s Harvey Keitel-led drama The Tattooist of Auschwitz (2023), Apple TV’s million-dollar epic Masters of the Air (2023), or Jonathan Glazer’s stunningly impactful The Zone of Interest (2023), there have been a lot of holocaust stories. Now I’m not going to go into whether this is a good or bad thing, but I do believe it’s really hard to top The Zone of Interest, considering the kind of astonishingly original thing the movie managed to pull off when it comes to Holocaust storytelling. That said, Rebecca Snow’s The Boy in the Woods, the most recent Holocaust movie to fall on us, does work. The Usp of it has to be it being a story that is...

Elizabeth Gillies is best known for her roles in the popular TV shows “Victorious” and “Dynasty.” Now, she’s making the jump to movies with her new film “Spread” which comes out this Friday on Tubi. Not only does Elizabeth star in it, but she also helped produce it—which was a first for her.
I had the chance to chat with Elizabeth about “Spread” and how this project was different than anything she’s done before. She told me she was totally burned out after wrapping up “Dynasty” so when she read the funny script for “Spread,” she was super interested right away. The story follows Ruby, an uptight journalist who ends up working at an adult magazine. Ruby goes through some big changes over the course of the movie—and so does her style of dressing!

For the better part of the last 15 years, Elizabeth Gillies has made a career out of playing sassy, snarky, strong-willed women on television. After rising to fame in her mid-teens as the mercurial Jade West on the hit Nickelodeon sitcom “Victorious,” Gillies made the transition to playing similarly rebellious adult characters, co-starring as Denis Leary’s daughter in his FX musical comedy “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll” and reimagining the role of Fallon Carrington in the CW’s modern-day reboot of “Dynasty.”
It was during the fifth and final season of “Dynasty” that Gillies was approached to star in and executive produce “Spread,” which premieres on July 19 on Tubi. Directed by Ellie Kanner and written by Buffy Charlet, the new film follows Ruby (Gillies), an aspiring (and very broke) journalist who is forced to swallow her pride and take a temp job at Spread, an outdated adult magazine.

Thirty years ago, the release of Pulp Fiction saw Quentin Tarantino reach the peak of his international celebrity. A look back at the Tarantinomania of 1994:
Joining Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick and Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino became one of a vanishingly small number of filmmakers who could be described as a household name in the early 1990s. Having broken through with the blackly comic and unabashedly violent Reservoir Dogs in 1992, his fame arguably reached its peak in 1994; to borrow a term from critic Joshua Mooney, it was a time of Tarantinomania.
That year saw the release of Pulp Fiction, which soon became more than merely a popular low-budget thriller: it was a pop cultural event, with its music, snappy dialogue and hip 50s styling appearing all over the place. But 1994 was also the year of Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers, and the US release of low-budget heist thriller Killing Zoe...
