Cyndi Lauper on Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction: ‘If You Persist, You Prevail’
Image
Few would have been surprised if Cyndi Lauper had entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame during her first year of eligibility back in 2008. After all, she’s one of the most successful artists of the Eighties, and songs like “Time After Time,” “True Colors,” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” have enjoyed stunning staying power. The video for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” has racked up 1.5 billion plays on YouTube; the song itself 1.4 billion plays on Spotify. (And that’s not even getting into the juggernaut of Kinky Boots.

Jonathan Groff would be the first person to win Best Actor in a Musical consecutively
Image
Just in Time star Jonathan Groff in currently in second place in Gold Derby's Tony Awards predictions for Best Actor in a Musical, only behind fellow Glee alum Darren Criss for Maybe Happy Ending. The former triumphed for Merrily We Roll Along just last year, so if he prevails again, he'd be the first individual in history to win this category consecutively.

Prior to Groff, five men were Tony nominated for Best Actor in a Musical two years in a row, but didn't emerge victorious:

Gregory Hines in 1980 for Comin' Uptown and 1981 for Sophisticated Ladies George Hearn in 1983 for A Doll's Life and 1984 for La Cage aux Folles (the latter of which resulted in a win) Patrick Wilson in 2001 for The Full Monty and 2002 for Oklahoma! Michael Cerveris in 2006 for Sweeney Todd and 2007 for LoveMusik Brian d'Arcy James in 2023 for Into the Woods and 2024 for Days of Wine and Roses...

5 Embarrassing First Songs from Famous Divas
Image
If you look at the biographies of the most famous singers of all-time, you’ll sometimes see that the world immediately recognized their talent. Take Mariah Carey. The very first demo tape she recorded led to a bidding war between rival studios. Columbia Records went all-out when promoting her, and her debut album went platinum nine times over. Her first single, “Vision of Love,” was one of the biggest songs of 1990 and indeed was one of the biggest of the entire 1990s.

With other artists? Their first song is one that you’ve never heard before and which, perhaps, they’d rather you’d never hear at all.

5 ‘Ringo I Love You’ by Cher

Cher really was born with the name “Cher” — or “Cheryl Sarkisian,” which is close enough. For her very first single, however, she went by the name of Bonnie Jo Mason, which was the sort of wholesome...

Cher Calls for Relocation of L.A. Zoo Elephants to Sanctuary: “They Have Been Through Hell”
Image
Cher is calling for the relocation of two Los Angeles Zoo elephants, Billy and Tina, to a sanctuary.

The Grammy winner, who has been fighting to move Billy, called “the world’s saddest elephant,” to a sanctuary for 15 years, is pushing back after it was announced the elephants are set to be relocated to another zoo in Tulsa, Oklahoma, instead of a sanctuary.

“Billy has been locked up since 1989,” Cher wrote in a statement. “Tina was held captive in a private zoo prior to being placed in the LA Zoo. They have been through hell. I’ve seen firsthand what it takes to rescue, rehabilitate and safely relocate elephants to sanctuaries. The Tulsa Zoo is not a sanctuary. Billy and Tina have served their time in confinement. They deserve the chance to live out their lives in peace and dignity.”

The “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer also filed...

Image
Nicolas Cage admits that he does not regret passing on a widely successful buddy comedy movie, 31 years after it premiered. Cage has maintained a genre-spanning career, which includes unusual and transformative performances in Vampire's Kiss and Face/Off. After winning an Academy Award for Leaving Las Vegas, he appeared in numerous blockbuster movies, ranging in audience reception, including the National Treasure and Ghost Rider franchises. More recently, Cage portrayed Dracula in Renfield and shocked fans as a demonic serial killer in Longlegs.

Image
Deborah Vance has been trying to get Ava to crack all season long, and in Episode 6, the late-night host finally got her wish… and almost immediately regretted it.

In Thursday’s Hacks, head writer Ava is feeling the pressure. Not only does her boss put the kibosh on the writing staff’s monthly birthday celebration (poor balloons!), but after Cher bails as a late-night guest, the team is able to book Ruby Rojas — Ava’s ex-girlfriend! Paul Rudd Almost Lost His 'Clueless' Role Over a Haircut
Image
One of Paul Rudd's most memorable movie roles nearly didn't happen. On the latest episode of Good Hang with Amy Poehler, the actor recalled his audition for Amy Heckerling's Clueless, where he was asked to read for the part of Josh Lucas, and how a spontaneous decision could have cost him his big break. After the audition, Rudd dramatically changed his appearance by chopping his long locks down to a buzz cut, which came as a shock to the director, who was considering offering him the role before seeing the haircut. Ugh! As if!

"I wasn't thinking about it, [and] I was walking past a barbershop and I went in and said, 'Just buzz my head,'" Rudd revealed. "A week later, I went into a restaurant and Amy Heckerling, who directed the movie, was eating there. She looked at me and froze, and she goes, 'What did you do?...

Liam Neeson's First Major Action Movie Was A Clint Eastwood Flick
Image
Don Siegel's 1971 film "Dirty Harry" was written partly as a protest against the then-new Miranda Laws, passed by the Supreme Court decision Miranda v. Arizona in 1966. The film is about a grizzled San Francisco super-cop, Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood), on the trail of a serial killer nicknamed Scorpio (Andrew Robinson), modeled after the real-life Zodiac killer. Callahan was frustrated because he knew Scorpio was guilty, but he was using the auspices of "prisoner's rights" to flaunt the system and stay free. Callahan would need to go rogue to apprehend him.

Perhaps because of its topicality -- but likely because of its hard-boiled tone and memorable "gruff" lead character -- "Dirty Harry" was a gigantic hit, making $36 million on a $4 million budget. The character was indelible enough to return for multiple sequels over the years, each time pushing Callahan into a scenario wherein he would need to go rogue to...

John Waters Has Encouraged Chappell Roan To Consider Acting
Image
In the pop-star tradition of Cher, Madonna and Lady Gaga, Chappell Roan might add actress to her resume.

The Grammy winner revealed that she recently met legendary cult filmmaker John Waters, who encouraged Roan to embrace her inner thespian and give acting a try.

“I met John Waters last night, which was insane,” she told W Magazine. “One of my idols! And I was talking about how there are only so many ‘firsts’ you can have with your career.”

Roan continued, “And he said, ‘No, no, no—there are all the firsts to go through when you become an actress!’ And I said, ‘I’m not an actress—what are you talking about?’ He said, ‘Every singer is an actress!’ And I was like, okay, maybe I am! Damn! If John Waters says I’m an actress, maybe I am!”

Clueless Fashion Revival: How Cher Horowitz’s Style Still Rules the Red Carpet
Image
Released in 1995, Clueless marked a major fashion reset. It moved away from the grunge style inspired by Nirvana and introduced a polished, preppy aesthetic. Cher Horowitz’s wardrobe helped reintroduce matching co-ord sets, slip dresses, and tartan skirts, effectively rewriting American youth fashion.

In addition to coining the immortalized expressions “as if!” and “whatever!”, the 1995 American coming-of-age romantic comedy film showed another side to ’90s fashion that people who aren’t that into grunge and hip-hop style instantly warmed up to.

The 1995 film Clueless marked a pivotal shift in fashion trends, steering away from the grunge aesthetic of baggy jeans and flannel shirts.

As noted by Varsity, “Clueless redefined the look of the 90s, renewing the plaid shirt into a plaid skirt”. This transformation popularized preppy,...

The Authenticity Craze. It’s Mostly B.S.
Image
There was a time — not ancient history — when a star’s greatest currency was mystery. You could be luminous, aloof, unreadable and still beloved. The less you gave away, the more iconic you became. Looking the part was enough.

Now? Visibility demands vulnerability. You’re not just acting — you’re emoting, explaining, confessing. On cue. In HD. Preferably with a filter that still shows your pores.

Fame today is an emotional striptease. You’re not just promoting a project — you’re promoting your pain. Your trauma, your therapy journey, your gluten intolerance, your sober-curious era in Tulum. The red carpet is now a runway of curated disclosure. The more “real” you appear, the longer you stay relevant.

Consider Selena Gomez. Her willingness to speak candidly about mental health, heartbreak and autoimmune disease has earned her admiration far beyond her music or acting. But her vulnerability is as lucrative as it is therapeutic.

Wait, What’s Going on With Tessa and Daniel on Young and the Restless April 23?
Image
Tessa started giving Daniel guitar lessons on the April 23 episode of The Young and the Restless, and we don’t exactly understand why. We realize we’re supposed to think it’s Tessa’s way of being supportive and Daniel’s way of dealing with Heather’s death, Lucy’s apparent invisibility, and Phyllis’ ongoing psychosis. We understand why Tessa and Daniel are doing it, but we don’t understand why Y&r is doing it.

Friends Forever

We realize that, in the real world, most people who become friends just stay friends. And we certainly believe that men and women can be friends without it turning into anything romantic. We’re big fans of that.

But that’s not how things work on soaps. On soaps, friendship takes a definite second seat to love. You know who started out as friends? Tessa (Cait Faribanks) and Mariah (Camryn Grimes), that’s who.

Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, and Brittany Murphy in Clueless (1995)
Image Source: Paramount Pictures It’s shaping up to be a notable year for the iconic 1995 comedy Clueless. According to a report from Variety, a sequel series is in development for Peacock, brought to you by the creative minds behind hit shows like The Oc, Gossip Girl, and Dollface. Alicia Silverstone's Best Movie Is Getting A Proper Sequel Series At Peacock, But Does Anyone Want That?
Image
Today's news has got fans of Amy Heckerling's coming-of-age masterpiece "Clueless" waffling between totally freaking and totally bugging, because according to Variety, the Peacock streaming service is currently developing a sequel series with star Alicia Silverstone set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz.

If this sounds like old news, it's because you're probably thinking of a different Peacock "Clueless" series that was announced back in 2020 and slated to star Stacey Dash, reviving her role as Cher's ride-or-die bestie Dionne. Well, that series is no longer happening, and this series currently has Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage attached to write, along with Jordan Weiss. The trio will executive produce alongside Silverstone, and they'll be joined by the original film's producer, Robert Lawrence, and writer/director Heckerling as executive producers as well.

The original "Clueless" was initially envisioned as a television show before becoming one of the most successful...

Game of Thrones (2011)
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad makes adjustments ahead of release later this year
Game of Thrones (2011)
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is a new video game from Netmarble. It looks like the most ambitious Game of Thrones game yet made; players will take the role of the leader of House Tyre from the North, and play out an original story set during the fourth season of the TV show. They'll select from multiple fighting styles, interact with familiar characters, and explore an open world modeled after the Seven Kingdoms. Game director Hyunil Jang and his team are going pretty hard on this one.

Jang gave fans an update in a new video you can watch above. Also on hand was the game's narrative designer, whom the video identifies only as "Richard." I guess he's a mononym, like Cher. Here's some of the updates they gave as they adjust the game after getting feedback from players in early access:

Although there's a full story mode to the game,...

The original film was a very loose adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma as it followed Cher (Silverstone), a beautiful, clever and rich high school student who befriended a new student named Tai Frasier (Brittany Murphy) and decided to give her a makeover. It was ridiculously ’90s in the best way possible. The film spawned a TV series (which featured Stacey Dash reprising...

Image
Marieangela King has filed for divorce from Elijah Blue Allman, son of music icon Cher and the late rock star Greg Allman, after more than a decade of marriage. However, their relationship faced further challenges, including public disputes involving Cher. In 2023, King accused Cher of orchestrating Allman’s “kidnapping” from a hotel room during a reconciliation attempt, a claim Cher denied. Subsequently, Cher sought a conservatorship over Allman, citing concerns about his mental health and substance abuse issues. The conservatorship petition was later withdrawn after a private settlement was reached.

King and Allman were married in December 2013. According to court documents, they...
