As Kansas City Chiefs players continue to process their lopsided loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl Lix, Hollywood insiders are watching to see whether Travis Kelce is ready to snag a coveted acting career.
The year has not quite gotten off to the start that Kelce might have expected. Although the star tight end — along with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the team — reached the Super Bowl with a chance to win a third straight championship, the Chiefs’ prolonged dominance saw some football fans turn on them or become convinced that refs give them more favorable calls. Kelce’s girlfriend Taylor Swift was booed at the Super Bowl by a seemingly pro-Eagles contingent, while Kelce himself caused a social media stir ahead of the big game after calling it a “great honor” to have President Donald Trump in the stadium.

The biggest movie coming to Peacock in February is arguably “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” which is set to start streaming exclusively on the platform on Valentine’s Day. As of this writing, though, the jury’s still out on whether or not that film can make up for the mistakes of 2016’s “Bridget Jones’s Baby” and take the popular rom-com franchise back to its former heights. Fortunately, you don’t have to wonder about the quality of some of the other movies that are freshly available to stream on Peacock this month.
Here are the seven best movies coming to the platform in February.
“Gone Baby Gone” (Miramax Films) “Gone Baby Gone” (2007)
Ben Affleck’s directorial career may have gone quiet in recent years, but his first effort as a director, 2007’s “Gone Baby Gone,” remains one of the more impressive debuts we’ve seen over the past 20 years.

An indisputable icon of the celluloid, revered for his bravura performances and infectious charisma, Al Pacino’s identity has become an inextricable element in the canon of American cinema. In a career spanning more than half a century, Pacino has cultivated an enviable track record, working with greats like Francis Ford Coppola, Sidney Lumet, Martin Scorsese, and William Friedkin, to name a few of cinema’s wizards, and producing some of the most excellent performances ever put on screen.

HBO’s Westworld had a record viewership in its debut season before plummeting into a complete disaster over the last two seasons. The series was set at the titular futuristic theme park, where human guests indulged in their wildest fantasies without fear of retaliation from android hosts. James Marsden played one of the hosts, Teddy Flood, who was designed as a romantic hero by the creators, Delos Inc.

If movies have taught us anything, it’s that you should never kill someone related to a ruthless gangster. It’s just common sense at this point. But a character in “Riff Raff” might have to learn that lesson the hard way.

"Wait for me – before you two start hitting each other." Lionsgate has unveiled the first official trailer for a crime comedy called Riff Raff, the latest film directed by New Yorker filmmaker Dito Montiel. Not to be confused with the 1935 classic with Spencer Tracy. This first premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival last year, and will be out in theaters in February. One-time criminal Vince turned his life around when he fell in love with Sandy. Nearly 20 years later, the still-happy couple are looking forward to spending a quiet New Year’s Eve with their son. But then Vince's other son, Rocco, shows up unannounced with his pregnant girlfriend, Marina, and Vince's first wife, Ruth, in tow. It is not a happy reunion. Ruth is rude & lewd, while Rocco — who never divested left the family business — is clearly hiding something. Hot on Rocco's tail is Lefty, an aging mafioso with...

The star of Sundance’s annual gala in 2025 was not newly-minted Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo, or Oscar winner Olivia Colman, or even Sara Bareilles, who earned a standing ovation for a brief performance to close out the evening. Instead it was Michelle Satter, whose name the general public may not know but was beloved in the room at the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley in Park City.
Satter is the Founding Senior Director of Artist Programs for the Sundance Institute. She has been with the non-profit since quite literally the very beginning. In her speech at the honorees dinner, Satter recalled getting five minutes of Robert Redford’s time and working up the courage to tell him that he needed her to open a Los Angeles office for the Sundance Institute.

Some of the most powerful films ever made have been inspired by real-life events, bringing true stories to the big screen in unforgettable ways. Whether they are trying to capture moments of triumph or tragedy, well-made movies based on a true story more often than not grip audiences, spark conversation, and have an everlasting impact.
While they may not always be the most historically accurate movies, these titles have a way of making real-life feel more vivid with their masterful storytelling, emotional depth, and cinematic brilliance. What ultimately makes a movie based on a true story great is it can properly capture the emotions behind the stories. Whether it’s the haunting journey depicted in 12 Years a Slave or the riveting rise-and-fall narrative of Goodfellas, some of them continue to be hailed as the best movies of all time, securing their place as timeless gems in the world of cinema.

Sally Field's 1996 psychological thriller has become a global Netflix hit nearly three decades after its release. Field is a highly decorated actress whose career has spanned over six decades, starting during the 1960s with the sitcoms Gidget and The Flying Nun before transitioning to acclaimed dramatic roles. Field won her first Academy Award for Best Actress in 1980 for Norma Rae, her second for Places in the Heart in 1985, and earned an additional nomination for Steven Spielberg's Lincoln in 2013.
Though she's best known for starring in acclaimed dramas, Field has shown some versatility and also ventured into darker territory with roles in thrillers. This includes suspenseful projects such as Sydney Pollack's Absence of Malice in 1981, in which she played a journalist entangled in an ethical dilemma. At the height of the genre's popularity in 1996, Field starred in the psychological thriller, Eye for an Eye, delivering a gripping performance...

While some gangster movies have become ever-present within mainstream pop culture, other great releases always seem to get left out of the conversation. In some instances, this is because the filmmakers already have movies that are considered masterpieces of the genre, meaning that their less-acclaimed or well-known work always seems to become an afterthought or footnote in lists and reviews. However, this is a real shame because it means that almost-perfect gangster movies get left behind in the public consciousness.
Although the best gangster movies ever made are consistently written about with great reverence, other gangster movies just haven’t been recognized in the same way. While the work of filmmaking greats like Martin Scorsese, David Cronenberg, or the Coen brothers will always have a big audience, even these directors have movies that viewers seem to forget about. Jim Carrey's career has taken some interesting turns over the years. After becoming a box-office juggernaut in the mid-1990s with the blazing blockbuster streak of "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "The Mask," "Dumb and Dumber," "Batman Forever," and "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls," he found the ditch with the commercial and critical wipeout of Ben Stiller's darkly comedic curveball "The Cable Guy." The thoughtful actor reestablished his commercial connection with mainstream moviegoers the following year with "Liar Liar," then took another risk with Peter Weir's "The Truman Show." The result was one of the best films of 1998, one that received a curious smattering of Oscar nominations for Weir (Director), Supporting Actor (Ed Harris), and Original Screenplay (Andrew Niccol). That a film as acclaimed and successful as "The Truman Show" could be denied Best Picture and Best Actor nods in a weak year felt like a rebuke of its star.

Mel Gibson says that his Malibu home was destroyed in the wildfires that have devastated the Los Angeles area this week.
Speaking to NewsNation, Gibson explained that he was in Austin, recording an episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast, when he learned that his house was under threat. “I was kind of ill at ease while we were talking because I knew my neighborhood was on fire. I thought, ‘Eh, I wonder if my place is still there.’ When I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t there.”
“I have never seen a place so perfectly burned, you could put it in an urn,” Gibson continued. “[The area] was completely toasted. I’ve never seen such a complete burn.”
Despite the tragedy, Gibson tried to find some humor in the situation, joking that he’s now “been relieved from the burden of my stuff because it’s all in cinders.”

“You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.” These words by Bob Marley ring so true, especially when you look at people who’ve been hit hard by life’s unpredictable storms, yet somehow manage to keep going. And who better than Mel Gibson to embody this? The man who made his name playing warriors, rebels, and fearless leaders on-screen, has faced battles off-camera that could rival the most harrowing film scripts.

A24's surreal crime thriller Love Lies Bleeding deals heavily in symbolism while blurring the line between reality and delirium, making its ambiguous final resolution difficult to parse. Kristen Stewart's return to the thriller genre weaves a tangled web of obsession, violence, and family drama using a combination of grimy realism and the dreamlike neon glow of the Southwestern United States in the 1980s. Two young women, Lou (Stewart) and Jackie (Katy O'Brian) fall in love, but their relationship is complicated by a series of violent events that spiral out of control, helped along by Lou's diabolical gun-running father (Ed Harris).
There is what seems to be a fairly pure romance at the heart of Love Lies Bleeding, but as Jackie and Lou's relationship unravels and bodies start piling up, doubt is cast over whether there is anything pure or good about any of the characters involved. Director Rose Glass...

As you probably know, Marvel Studios is gearing up to release Wonder Man, a new series on Disney+ in December 2025. Wonder Man introduces us to Simon Williams, a Hollywood actor who gains superpowers and becomes Wonder Man.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, known for his roles in Aquaman and HBO’s Watchmen, takes on the lead role. Joining him is Ben Kingsley, reprising his Marvel role as Trevor Slattery. The series is expected to have eight to ten episodes.
It’s part of Marvel’s Phase Six and will be released under the Marvel Spotlight banner, which focuses on more character-driven stories. This fact could be the key to delivering a very fresh show, which is also at the center of a recent rumor by a popular rumor mill.
What makes Wonder Man unique is its blend of superhero action with a satirical look at Hollywood. The show delves into Simon Williams...

Hollywood villains are often portrayed as the epitome of evil, the exact opposite of the story’s protagonist. However, it wouldn’t be wrong to argue that some Hollywood villains challenge the simplistic good-versus-evil narrative, leaving viewers to question whether the “hero” was truly on the moral high ground.

While Thanos is often cited as a popular example due to his ideology of ‘balancing the universe,’ there are many other on-screen characters who fit this mold just as well.

In case you haven't heard, Christopher Nolan's deeply heartfelt space drama, "Interstellar," was recently re-released in IMAX to celebrate its 10th anniversary, and it has become a box office hit all over again. Upon its announcement, the film's entire one-week-only run quickly sold out across 166 screens, grossing a higher per-theater average than box office juggernauts like "Wicked" and "Moana 2." Tickets became so hard to find that they were being scalped and price gouged on the secondary market, like cinema's Taylor Swift. In response, IMAX has since extended the run twice over, capitalizing on the film's strong word-of-mouth and turning it into one of the year's must-see films... again!
The return of "Interstellar" proves why IMAX is the future of filmgoing. The company is estimated to earn over $1.2 billion in revenue this year, somehow surpassing their unprecedented $1.06 billion gross from 2023. However, it isn't just IMAX that is bringing in the big bucks.

Sydney Pollack's 1993 thriller "The Firm" was the first film in a long series of mega-hits to be based on the literary output of John Grisham. Grisham, for those unfamiliar, was a lawyer-turned-writer who authored many supra-best-selling legal thrillers throughout the 1990s, including "The Pelican Brief," "The Client," "The Chamber," "A Time to Kill," and "Runaway Jury." There was a time when no one at an airport was without a Grisham novel in hand. Most of Grisham's books were about a young, upstart lawyer, new to the profession, who uncovers a vast legal conspiracy. To date, Grisham has written about 50 novels and four non-fiction books, and many of his bigger hits have been adapted into equally successful films.

From Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part Two to Dementus in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the movies of 2024 have brought some really great new villains to the big screen. There were some movie villains in 2024 who were just outright evil with no redeeming qualities, like Nicolas Cage’s titular Satanic serial killer in Longlegs. But there were also some villains that turned out to be sympathetic and misunderstood, like Anxiety in Inside Out 2.
2024 brought some surprisingly great villain performances from actors who don’t usually play villains. The typically affable Hugh Grant played a terrifying monster in Heretic, and the charming Josh Hartnett played a cold-hearted murderer in M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap. This year brought some really great movies, and with those great movies came some great villains.

M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap doesn’t completely hold together as a thriller, but it works beautifully as a dark comedy.

One of the best American film producers of the last forty years died a few months ago. Lynda Obst, who began her film career in the 1980s and went on to produce more than a dozen major feature films, was 74. I had the pleasure of getting to know her at a film festival back in the mid-‘90s. She had just released the blockbuster comedy Sleepless in Seattle and was in the final stages of getting Robert Zemeckis’ sci-fi film Contact across the finish line.
Ms. Obst was very kind to me when discussing a small coming-of-age story I had written about competitive kayaking, but put an end to any dreams I may have had about attracting her involvement in the project by saying, “This is a two-million-dollar movie. I can’t even make a movie today for under fifty million.”
For context, this is back when fifty million was considered a lot of money.

While his work often carries a certain subtlety, Paul Schrader himself tends to be more direct. The 78 year-old filmmaker often takes to social media to share his opinion on films, actors, or the news of the day and now that he’s promoting his recently released “Oh, Canada,” he’s found even more ways to amplify his unfiltered thoughts. Speaking in a recent interview with Vulture, Schrader directed his hot takes towards collaborator Richard Gere. Prior to re-teaming on “Oh, Canada,” Gere and Schrader worked together on “American Gigolo” at a time when the actor was at his peak. Schrader had noticed Gere’s star fall over the years and felt him playing an older, ill man would help revitalize his image.
“It was a good challenge. And he welcomed it, because people were getting a hermetic idea of what a Richard Gere role was. The buzz factor had gone down.

Liam Neeson may not have started out as an action star, but he is certainly considered one now. Though Neeson's '90s and early 2000s career did have a handful of action movies, including Rob Roy (1995), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), and Batman Begins (2005), he was just as well known for non-action roles in projects like Schindler's List (1993) and Love Actually (2003). Neeson's career shifted, however, after the release of Taken in 2009.
Taken spawned two less successful sequels, but it also set Neeson down a unique action path. Neeson became the starring figure in a number of mid-budget action movies, with the films usually built around his casting. Notable entries in Neeson's action career include movies like Unknown (2011), The Grey (2011), Non-Stop (2014), A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014), Cold Pursuit (2019), The Ice Road (2021), and In the Land of Saints and Sinners (2023). Many Neeson action movies come and go with little fanfare, and such was the case for one 2015 film.

There are some movie sequels which elicit groans when they are announced, but not all of these sequels turn out as poorly as expected. As Hollywood has accelerated the trend of producing sequels to beloved movies, many people have grown tired of seeing a lack of originality. When some recent sequels were announced, they were immediately dismissed as unwarranted cash-grabs, although there have been a few surprises.
Legacy sequels tend to come under more intense scrutiny than most other sequels, since fans of the original movies sometimes feel that their favorites are being tampered with. Other surprising sequels in recent years have been those that massively surpassed audience expectations by taking a huge step-up in quality from the movies that came before them. Sequels are generally derided, but they can be just as worthy as any movie if they are executed with care and passion.

Glengarry Glen Ross will take over Palace Theatre this spring.
The revival of the David Mamet play, starring Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr, will start previews at the theater March 10, ahead of a March 31 opening. The production is scheduled to play a strict 12-week limited run.
The play takes over the Palace Theatre after the abrupt closure of the Tammy Faye musical on Dec. 8. Tammy Faye had been the first Broadway production to play the theater after it underwent a multiyear renovation and was raised 30-feet in the air and was meant to usher in its grand reopening. The theater boasts a seating capacity of 1,306 and has typically been used for musicals, which are seen as drawing larger crowds, rather than plays.
The production will be directed by Patrick Marber, who won a 2023 Tony Award for his direction of Leopoldstadt. Odenkirk and Burr will make their Broadway debuts in the play.

Stephen King’s books and short stories make brilliant films and TV shows, but the King of Horror’s narratives are often so unique and complex that it’s hard for them to be translated to the screen properly. While many of Stephen King’s movies are legendary pieces of cinema, some just don’t hit the mark.
There are several reasons why these adaptations are worse than their book counterparts. Some are simply bad films, some fail to follow their source material properly, and there is even an instance of one tale being adapted so poorly that King’s work can’t be identified. Hopefully, the upcoming Stephen King movie and TV adaptations over the next few years can learn from these mistakes.

"Liam Neeson-led action movie" is basically a genre nowadays. Be honest, can you name them all? I can't and I do this for a living (though you can read our picks for the best "Old Man Neeson with a Gun" movies here). With so many out there, some are bound to rise to the top of the streaming algorithm. Right now, the hot topic is 2015's "Run All Night." During the week of December 4, 2024, it was the fourth most viewed film on Netflix, in esteemed company such as the first two "Transformers" films and 2017's "The Dark Tower."
Neeson stars as Jimmy Conlon, an over-the-hill hitman for the New York Irish mob. Jimmy is a drunk and a joke, but he's kept around because his best (and only) friend is boss Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris). Then Jimmy's estranged son Mike (Joel Kinnaman) witnesses Shawn's son Danny (Boyd Holbrook) commit a murder.

Liam Neeson's underrated 2015 mob movie Run All Night is now streaming on Netflix. Neeson, who turned 72 in 2024, has kept up his momentum as one of the best leading actors in action movies working in Hollywood today with 2024's Absolution. Many of Neeson's best action films are essentially one-person army tales that portray the talented actor's physical tour-de-force performances. Run All Night certainly falls into this iconic category of Neeson action thrillers.
Run All Night is one of several collaborations between Neeson and director Jaume Collet-Serra, which also includes 2011's Unknown, 2014's Non-Stop, 2018's The Commuter, and 2023's Retribution. Neeson is currently slated to star in the 2025 remake of The Naked Gun and the Jonny Campbell-directed thriller Cold Storage alongside Lesley Manville and Joe Keery. A sequel to Run All Night is currently in development with Neeson set to return with Joel Kinnamon's Mike Conlon character.
