This weekend, Apple TV+ is free.
It’s a brilliant marketing move and reminds us of the time when, back when Disney Channel was a premium cable channel, they would do special free weekends, complete with cutaways to a fake call center to see people signing up in real time.
And while there might not be hosted segments previewing the channel’s upcoming programs, you have free reign over all of Apple TV+ – including their original film library.
To that end, we chose nine movies that you should definitely check out during the free preview weekend, everything from documentaries about the Beastie Boys to new classics from Martin Scorsese and Ridley Scott to a movie about the formation of “Tetris” (yes really).
Apple “Beastie Boys Story”
Apple TV+ has a robust lineup of music documentaries, with Todd Haynes’ “The Velvet Underground,” plus docs dedicated to Billie Eilish, Bruce Springsteen, Louis Armstrong and Selena Gomez.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning had the highest budget of any film in the Mission: Impossible franchise, somewhere in the range of $290 million… but the box office numbers took a dip, the film ending up with a haul of $566 million at the worldwide box office. A lower amount than Ghost Protocol ($694 million), Rogue Nation ($688 million), and Fallout ($786 million) had earned. And they all had substantially lower budgets. With the next film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, set to reach theatres on May 23, 2025, the folks working behind-the-scenes might have an idea that the franchise needs to be shaken up a bit. According to a Rumor shared by The Sun, they’re going to attempt to do this by pulling a younger version of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character into the action.

Christmas is almost here, and that means it’s time to break out those classic and nostalgic Black-led holiday flicks.

At the 2021 Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis, host Joseph Gordon-Levitt delivered this classic joke: "I loved 'The Sixth Sense.' It's a great movie. And the ending, I did not see that twist coming ... At the end of 'The Sixth Sense,' Bruce goes back to making sh***y movies."
It's funny because, well, it's sort of true: "The Sixth Sense" is widely considered one of the last truly good Bruce Willis movies. Sure, he gave some fun performances in "Lucky Number Slevin" and "Moonrise Kingdom," but the spooky 1999 M. Happy Holidays from The B-Side! Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between.
Today we discuss the great Jack Lemmon with the great Mitchell Beaupre! Our B-Sides today include Cowboy, The April Fools, Tribute, and Out to Sea. There’s also a lengthy appreciation of Save the Tiger, which won Lemmon his second Oscar.
The three of us try to define how exactly Lemmon so perfectly encapsulated the average, American male for so many decades, while digging into his long career, that includes both filmmaker Billy Wilder and Walter Matthau. We discuss how Cowboy was ahead of its time, how The April Fools skates by on immense, charming chemistry, and how Tribute falters due to a stunted co-lead (sorry Robby Benson!).

It's hard to imagine that Kurt Russell would get anywhere near the vicinity of stressed when it comes to being cast in a film. That being said, when that movie is being helmed by legendary director Quentin Tarantino, even the actor behind Snake Plissken starts to sweat a little. In a 2007 interview with IGN, the star of films like "The Thing," "Escape from New York," and "Tombstone" (only one of the best Westerns of all-time) explained that when it came to getting his gig in "Death Proof," he was already aware of the potential competition he was up against thanks to a call from Freddy Rodriguez.
Russell recalled the "Planet Terror" star telling him, "'I think Quentin's going to come to you with this movie.' He said, 'I think it was supposed to be Mickey Rourke, but I don't think that's happening. And there are some other guys they're talking about.

Shea Whigham has promised ‘Mission: Impossible' fans that 'The Final Reckoning’ will be “amazing”.The 55-year-old actor will be reprising his role as United States Intelligence Community enforcer Jasper Briggs - who was introduced in 2023’s ‘Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning’ - in the upcoming sequel, and has now stressed the movie won’t disappoint because of Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie’s commitment to the project. In an interview with MovieWeb, Whigham said: “I think it's going to be amazing. I really do, because of [Tom] and McQuarrie there ... I've got to be careful. I can't give away too much. I get in trouble. I've gotten in trouble already. “I think one of the great things is just to be around these guys that love cinema. I mean, Tom, there's nothing phoney about him when he says how much he loves and he wants people to come to see movies.

While a custom-made popcorn bucket designed to emulate a certain movie isn’t a new development, the trend has certainly spiked this year after the viral sensation of the Dune: Part 2 sandworm bucket that garnered many jokes online. One movie that definitely capitalized off Dune‘s suggestive imagery was Deadpool & Wolverine, as they made a bucket where the entry was the oversized mouth of Wolverine. This year also saw custom popcorn buckets for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Alien: Romulus, Gladiator II, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and even a special Batman one to commemorate the character’s 85th anniversary. Time has revealed that not only will there be a special edition popcorn bucket for next year’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, but Tom Cruise himself had helped to design it. According to Rob Bennett, the director of food and beverage product strategy at AMC, Cruise would be instrumental in guiding...

An integral part of Tom Cruise’s brand, when it comes to him as an actor, is the fact that he does his own stunts. From climbing buildings to dangling out of an airplane, all the daring stunts that the actor pulls off have become the stuff of Hollywood folklore.

However, a recent video has surfaced from Cruise’s most recent Mission Impossible production, which has the actor seeming a little nervous. Given the type of stunts that the actor has pulled in the past, it is odd to see him nervous for one, which only makes fans more intrigued about what exactly the actor will get into.

Almost six years have gone by since Tom Cruise announced that Paramount Pictures had given the greenlight to two more Mission: Impossible movies, with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) writer/director Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm. At one point, we thought these movies were going to carry the titles Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two… but Paramount has backtracked from that decision. After Dead Reckoning Part One underwhelmed at the box office when it was released last year, the studio has dropped Part One from the subtitle and has let it be known that the next film, which is still in production, will have a different title. A decision they really should have made before releasing the first half of the story. At least we’re still getting the second half of the story, with the...

"I studied all the legendary fights! Ali." "What do you know about Ali?" Lionsgate has revealed the trailer for a sports drama called Uppercut, opening in late February next year. This is a German production made by a German filmmaker and starring a German actress though it's also an English-language film set in the world of boxing. The film focuses on Toni, a determined female boxer, trying to break down barriers as she redefines what it means to be a woman in today's world. Starring Luiii (aka Luise Grossmann) as Toni, Ving Rhames, Jordan E. Cooper, Joanna Cassidy, Scott Monahan, Andrew Ibach, and Lynn Favin. This is the director's third time telling this story - he made the German version Leberhaken in 2021, then "Uppercut: the still version" in 2023, and...

Thankfully, Lionsgate is hitting them with a haymaker courtesy of today’s Uppercut trailer, featuring Ving Rhames as a trainer who agrees to mold the mind and body of a new female fighter.

With the release of the trailer of Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise reminded fans of the legacy of Ethan Hunt. The film is touted to be the final entry in the franchise, although there has been no confirmation of this. With his signature running and death-defying stunts, Hunt is ready to accept the impossible yet again.
The film might also mark the final appearance in the franchise from another actor who has been in every Mission Impossible film. In fact, he is the only one to be in every film apart from Cruise. Ving Rhames seems to have a bigger role as Luther Stickell in the eighth film of the franchise, as hinted in the trailer.

Most recently, audiences saw Rebecca Ferguson’s Ilsa Faust die at the hands of Gabriel, leaving her to be painfully found by Ethan Hunt, who was late by a few minutes. It is safe to say that this death will deeply affect him. However, it would seem that the franchise is not done with its casualties, and this time, the emotional payoff may be personal to the fans too.

It’s hard to imagine Tom Cruise saying goodbye to Ethan Hunt, the character he’s dutifully portrayed since 1996’s Mission: Impossible. But the teaser for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which dropped today, sure makes it seem like the end of the road for a character that’s outlasted countless crises, two James Bonds, and five presidential administrations.
