Because of the rise in antisemitism around the world today, I wanted to sing ‘Love Will Survive’ in the context of this series, as a way of remembering the six-million souls who were lost less than 80 years ago. Barbra Streisand has released her first song in six years, titled “Love Will Survive” — and it’s her first work for an onscreen project in 12 years, since she herself last appeared in a movie, 2012’s “The Guilt Trip.”
“Love Will Survive,” composed by Hans Zimmer and Kara Talve, will be Streisand’s end title anthem for the credits of Peacock and Sky limited series “The Tattooist of Auschwitz,” based on the WWII-set novel of the same name. Melanie Lynskey portrays real-life author Heather Morris, who interviewed Holocaust survivor Lali Sokolov (Harvey Keitel) about meeting his future wife Gina (Anna Próchniak) in a concentration camp. The novel is inspired by the real-life love story of Lali and Gita Sokolov, who met while prisoners in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during the Holocaust. He had been ordered to tattoo serial numbers on prisoners’ arms.
This is Streisand’s first recording for a TV series.

Barbra Streisand is looking to make the final scene in The Tattooist of Auschwitz memorable and poignant as the credits roll after recording a new song, “Love Will Survive,” for the Peacock and Sky original drama.
Marking her first ever recording for a TV series, Streisand has performed the end title anthem for the series about two young Jewish prisoners in the Nazi concentration camp who fall in love and commit themselves to survive the Holocaust together.
Hans Zimmer and Kara Talve composed the original song for the limited series that stars Harvey Keitel, Melanie Lynskey, Jonah Hauer-King, Anna Próchniak and Jonas Nay, and which Streisand recorded to in part recall the memory of the Holocaust and the specter of antisemitism resurfacing again.

The song will come out globally via her longtime label, Columbia Records, on April 25.

The Billboard 200 measures the commercial performance of the top albums during the weekly tracking period from Friday through Thursday. While the charts used to be determined just by record sales, the evolving technological landscape has prompted Billboard to adjust its methodology in the 21st century.
One of the most significant alterations came in 2014 when Billboard transitioned to a combination of factors including online streams and individual track sales in addition to the traditional album sales that previously made up the entirety of the Billboard 200’s measurement. Now an album sale counts as one album unit. Sales of 10 individual tracks also counts as a unit. And you need 3,750 ad-supported streams or 1,250 paid subscription streams to equal one unit. In 2020 Billboard also started considering streams of music videos on platforms like YouTube.

We all think we know Seth Rogen. He’s the stoner king, the oversized kid fighting off adulthood, the comedy icon that Judd Apatow built almost from scratch after the two met just before the turn of the millennium on the set of the woefully short-lived NBC series “Freaks and Geeks.” Yes, Rogen is all these things, but to limit his influence strictly to his talents as a funnyman is to wrongly shortchange him. At the not-so-advanced age of 40, the actor who was born on April 15, 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia is also a prolific writer and producer of product on screens big and small. He even co-wrote an episode of “The Simpsons.”
Moreover, the Rogen that audiences saw in “The Fabelmans” from director and co-writer Steven Spielberg bears little resemblance to the Rogen who entered the zeitgeist in such fun-loving, maturity-challenged raunchfests as “Superbad” and “Pineapple Express” more than a decade ago.

Veena Sud is no stranger to the tangled streaming rights game when it comes to distribution.
After her Quibi series folded, the filmmaker is now bringing her breakout horror hit “The Stranger” to Hulu with a new director’s cut. “Longlegs” actress and horror staple Maika Monroe plays a rideshare driver who goes through a twelve-hour fight for survival when she picks up Carl (Dane DeHaan), a passenger who becomes her worst nightmare. Avan Jogia co-stars in the former series which is now a feature film.

Yentl. The publication of My Name Is Barbra, Barbra Streisand's 970-page memoir, has offered fans of the actress-singer-icon a long-awaited glimpse into her life. It’s a lot of book, a maximalist feast of details and anecdotes that paints a lavish portrait of the woman who became a generational star. It’s easy to forget just how much of Streisand's career was besieged by misogyny, whether it was critics' repeated derision of appearance or co-stars like Walter Matthau berating her on set. Streisand certainly never forgot, and her memoir offers frequent reminders of the sexism that hampered her path to success at every turn. Her memoir conveys an achingly detailed portrait of endurance by a wildly ambitious woman. Wherever she went, she was derided for trying to do or be “too much,” and she took pleasure in proving her detractors wrong in her inimitable style. When she chose to get behind the camera and direct,...

By the time the curtain rang down on CBS’ “The Judy Garland Show” on March 29, 1964, the musical variety show had, in just one season, three producers and three different formats. Despite good reviews from critics and Judy Garland’s devoted fan base, the series wasn’t felled by the mercurial Garland being difficult but by the Cartwrights — Ben, Little Joe, Adam, and Hoss — of NBC’s ratings powerhouse “Bonanza.”
Though “The Judy Garland Show” was cancelled after one season, it certainly has lived on over the past six decades. The show was included in TV Guide’s 2013 list of 60 series that were “Cancelled Too Soon.” It certainly was the series that got away. Not only was the mercurial Garland in top (and emotional) voice, but the show also featured a powerhouse of guest stars from her frequent leading man Mickey Rooney, Ray Bolger from “The Wizard of Oz” and newcomers such as Barbra Streisand.

Elvis Presley grew famous for his music career, but he also had a successful run as an actor. He starred in a number of high-earning films and took top billing in all but one of his movies. Many people, Elvis himself included, believed he showed great potential as an actor. Unfortunately, he never had the chance to grow in the way he wanted. One of his greatest career regrets had to do with the stunted growth of his acting career.
Elvis wished he could have made more out of his film career
In 1975, Elvis had the opportunity to act in A Star Is Born alongside Barbra Streisand. He hadn’t been in a movie since 1969, but this was the opportunity he’d been waiting for. It was a serious, dramatic role about a washed-up musician, a part Elvis could understand a little too well at this point in his career.

The family of former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is calling out an organization which had been entrusted to hand out a yearly award in her name.
Last week, the Dwight D. Opperman Foundation announced that Elon Musk, Rupert Murdoch, Martha Stewart, Michael Milken and Sylvester Stallone would be the 2024 recipients of the Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Leadership Award which, until this year, was called the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Woman of Leadership Award and dedicated to “women of distinction.”
This year, however, the foundation announced it was refocusing the award on honoring “both women and men who have changed the world by doing what they do best.” Unfortunately, it seems someone forgot to tell the Ginsburg family.
The family’s statement, released to Mother Jones, reads as follows:

Elon Musk, Rupert Murdoch and three other individuals will no longer receive Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s namesake leadership award, presenting organization Opperman Foundation announced late Monday.
The awards’ cancellation came hours after singer and former Rbg award recipient Barbra Streisand slammed the decision to honor Musk and Murdoch, and several days after the late justice’s daughter spoke out against the award as well.
“The last thing we intended was to offend the family and friends of Rbg,” said Julie Opperman, chair of the Opperman Foundation, in a statement.
Earlier Monday, Streisand wrote on Instagram that she was joining “the Ginsburg family in condemning the choice of honorees this year. I had the privilege of meeting Justice Ginsburg on several occasions, and I strongly doubt she would approve of these awardees.”

The awards’ cancellation came hours after singer and former Rbg award recipient Barbra Streisand slammed the decision to honor Musk and Murdoch, and several days after the late justice’s daughter spoke out against the award as well.

An award named after Ruth Bader Ginsburg that was set to be given to Elon Musk and Rubert Murdoch has been canceled.
On Monday, the Dwight D. Opperman Foundation announced that it would be canceling its awards gala this year after Barbra Streisand — who was awarded the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Woman of Leadership Award last year — and the late justice’s family denounced the organization over this year’s recipients.
“This year we selected leaders in different fields. We honored men for the first time. We thought Rbg’s teachings regarding equality should be practiced.

Barbra Streisand joined the family of Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Monday in condemning the choice of a leadership award previously named after the late Supreme Court justice going to Elon Musk and Rupert Murdoch, among others.
Streisand, who accepted the honor formerly known as the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Woman of Leadership Award last year, wrote on Instagram she was “proud” to have done so “in memory of one of the most esteemed public figures in American history.”
The Dwight D. Opperman Foundation, the organization which delivers the award, changed the title this year from the Women of Leadership Award to just the Leadership Award, citing a pursuit of gender equality, and four of the five recipients are men.
In addition to Musk and Murdoch, the award will be presented to billionaire Michael Milken (known for his dominance of the junk bond market in the 1980s before pleading guilty to securities...

Some Beatles fans might be surprised to know that John Lennon’s mother, Julia Lennon, did not raise him. Instead, he was raised by his aunt, Mimi Smith. John had some major issues with his parents and he worked them into his music.
John Lennon never adulated his mother
The book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono features an interview from 1980. During the interview, the “Imagine” singer had quite a lot to say about parents. “Some people cannot see that their parents are still torturing them, even when they are in their forties and fifties — they still have that stranglehold over them and their thoughts and their minds,” he said.
“I never had that fear of and adulation for parents,” he added. “Well, that’s the gift of being a so-called orphan — which I never was at all. My mother was alive...

Willie Nelson made a “Rainbow Connection” with Kermit the Frog at his annual Luck Reunion festival on Thursday night (March 14th), bringing the Muppet out for a surprise appearance during his headlining set.
In addition to singing the 1979 hit together, Nelson and Kermit also played a gospel medley of “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” “I’ll Fly Away,” and “Hard to Be Humble.” Check out video clips and a photo gallery of the performance below.
Nelson and Kermit’s “Rainbow Connection” duet has been a long time coming, dating back to Nelson’s cover of the song on his 2001 album of the same name. In 2019, he performed it with Kacey Musgraves at the CMA Awards.

In a much-anticipated duet more than 20 years in the making, Willie Nelson was finally joined onstage by Kermit the Frog to perform “Rainbow Connection” together Thursday at the Luck Reunion.
The Oscar-nominated song was a hit for Kermit (and Jim Henson) after it featured in 1979’s The Muppet Movie, and over the next decades was covered by the likes of the Carpenters, the Chicks, Kenny Loggins, and Nelson, whose tender rendition became a classic in its own right after it featured on his 2001 album also titled Rainbow Connection.

In 1975, Elvis Presley received an offer to act in the film A Star Is Born alongside Barbra Streisand. The opportunity excited him greatly. He hadn’t been in a movie since 1969’s Change of Habit and was growing bored of his endless schedule of performances. A new film could have reestablished him as an actor. Ultimately, though, when negotiations fell through, Elvis’ friend the singer hadn’t been sure he could pull off the role.
Elvis Presley reportedly didn’t think he would be a good fit in a film
In 1975, Streisand offered Elvis $500,000 and 10% of profits to star as rock star John Norman Howard in A Star Is Born. After the initial meeting with Streisand, Elvis’ friends recalled that he seemed excited about the part. The role was of a rock star whose career was on the decline. Barbra Streisand and King Charles‘ decades-long friendship was dotted with memorable moments. However, Streisand was floored when she learned about Charles’ affections toward her, saying she has “great sex appeal.” She had a surprising two-word response to his remarks.
King Charles and Barbra Streisand’s special friendship
King Charles and Barbra Streisand met for the first time in 1974. She was recording songs for the feature film Funny Lady at the time.
In her autobiography My Name is Barbra, Streisand reflected on the moment she and Charles met during a concert benefitting his charity, The Prince’s Trust, in 1994. She told the audience, including Charles, that she and the royal heir had first met and shared a cup of tea 20 years prior.
Streisand told the audience, “Who knows? If I had been nicer to him, I could have been the first real Jewish princess!” She wrote of the moment, “That got a huge laugh.

Remember Quibi? The short-lived, bite-sized entertainment experiment gave us some horror gems including a brand new horror anthology series from Sam Raimi, most of which is currently unavailable to watch anywhere. But there’s good news for one of Quibi’s projects this week, as Veena Sud’s series “The Stranger” has found new life as a Hulu feature film.
Written and directed by Veena Sud (The Lie, Seven Seconds, The Killing), Quibi’s “The Stranger” has been recut into a feature film, and it’s coming to Hulu on April 15, 2024.
In The Stranger, “New to Los Angeles, rideshare driver Clare picks up Carl from a home deep in the Hollywood Hills. What begins as a routine ride turns into Clare’s worst nightmare: a twelve-hour fight for survival through the city’s seedy underbelly. Carl is not the passenger Clare thought he was, and Clare is not easy prey.

By delivering performances that add up to almost four and a half hours, the four acting Oscar winners of 2024 came within six minutes of setting a new academy record for highest single-year screen time average. Ultimately, they landed in fifth place with a mean of one hour, four minutes, and 57 seconds, thus becoming only the 12th winning quartet (and sixth in 10 years) to exceed 60 minutes.
Newly crowned Best Actor and Actress champs Cillian Murphy (“Oppenheimer”) and Emma Stone (“Poor Things”) are credited with a whopping 81% of their foursome’s screen time total, respectively clocking in at 1:53:10 and 1:37:19 and outpacing all of the 2024 nominees by at least four minutes. Supporting honorees Robert Downey Jr. (“Oppenheimer”) and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers”) gave the fourth and sixth shortest nominated performances of the year, reaching individual screen times of 23:50 and 25:29.

Since 1940, the record for highest average screen time between same-year lead acting Oscar winners has been held by Robert Donat and Vivien Leigh (“Gone with the Wind”), whose mean of one hour, 54 minutes, and 43 seconds will likely never be surpassed. Nonetheless, there is a brand new pair in second place, as 2024 Best Actor and Actress champs Cillian Murphy (“Oppenheimer”) and Emma Stone (“Poor Things”) came within 10 minutes of dethroning the long-reigning duo. Indeed, both together and separately, their especially lengthy performances inspired several brushes with Oscars screen time history.
Murphy was specifically awarded for one hour, 53 minutes, and 10 seconds of acting work, while Stone clocked in slightly lower at one hour, 37 minutes, and 19 seconds. Understandably, each far outpaced all of their fellow nominees, respectively landing 27 and 22 minutes above their lineups’ averages. Their own average of one hour, 45 minutes, and 15 seconds makes them only the second pair of lead victors to exceed 100 minutes.

It’s the one thing we all watch for at the Oscars, and it’s the reason why – especially if you’re a performer – getting nominated for an Academy Award is kind of a mixed bag. The odds are that you’re not going to win, and the camera is going to capture it live. And we’ll all be watching today to see if you reveal your despondency or manage to cover it convincingly.
Barring an extremely rare tie (hello Katharine Hepburn and Barbra Streisand in 1969), only one person out of five can win in the acting categories. I’m no math whiz, but my unofficial count is that this means you have an 80 percent chance of walking away empty-handed. Let’s not sugarcoat it: that sucks. And the chief reason why it sucks is that literally the whole world is watching to see how you will react in...

Oscars Trivia: Barbra Streisand and Katharine Hepburn. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
As everyone gears up for the 2024 Academy Awards, we have another interesting Oscars Trivia for you. If you’ve followed the award ceremony for years, you must be aware that there have been times when the Academy grabbed headlines for unexpected events. From The Godfather actor Marlon Brando not attending the awards to the Will Smith and Chris Rock slap gate, there’s a lot that startles the audience. But did you know, once, two actresses won the Best Actress Award at the same time?
Yes, you read it right. In 1969, there was a tie between Barbra Streisand and Katharine Hepburn for the Best Actress category at the Oscars. Barbra was nominated for Funny Girl, and Katharine was nominated in the same category for her performance in The Lion in Winter. However, only one of the actresses was present for the award ceremony.

Best Actress has come down to the two-horse race we always thought it would do as we enter Oscars weekend. “Poor Things” star Emma Stone took home the Best Comedy Actress Golden Globe as well as the Critics Choice and BAFTA awards for Best Actress. Meanwhile, “Killers of the Flower Moon” performer Lily Gladstone landed the Best Drama Actress Golden Globe and snagged the SAG award for Best Actress. That has left us Oscarologists split. Gladstone is slightly ahead in our Oscars odds chart for Best Actress but, truthfully, it could go either way.
Or could it go the same way?
Could Stone and Gladstone produce a delightful shock and share the Best Actress Oscar in a tie? Wouldn’t that be fun? Stone and Gladstone both seem like they’d be overjoyed if that were to happen, and so would we be. Best Actress has ended in a tie before.

Elvis Presley‘s “In the Ghetto” is one of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll‘s most famous songs, so it’s difficult to imagine a world where another singer released it first. The writer of the song debunked a rumor that the tune was originally meant for Sammy Davis Jr. He also revealed why he thought the track would have worked for Davis. In contrast, one of Elvis’ girlfriends recalled Davis getting offered the song first.

When I was a little kid back during the Pleistocene era, there were annually three things you had to watch that were can’t-miss viewing: the annual broadcasts of “The Wizard of Oz” on CBS at Thanksgiving and “It’s a Wonderful Life” on NBC at Christmastime – and the Academy Awards in April. I didn’t have a particularly close family growing up, but we would all huddle on the couch and practically join hands while tuned to this trio of yearly spectacles. It’s hard to imagine now in our everything-on-demand viewing culture, but in the years before streaming and video, “Wizard of Oz” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” were once massive, once-a-year events.
And the Academy Awards still is.
What’s that you say? The Oscar ratings have fallen off a cliff over the past several years? Well, maybe. But it doesn’t matter. They’re still the granddaddy (and grandmama?...

By delivering performances that averaged out to 98 minutes in length, the five women who competed for the 2023 Best Actress Oscar achieved the category’s all-time highest screen time mean, shattering a record that had stood for over half a century. They will continue to hold that distinction until at least 2025, as the present lineup’s average falls below those of the last two groups. What’s more, this is the first year since 2020 that the lead actress contenders have less collective screen time than their male counterparts.
The 2024 Best Actress nominees have an average screen time of one hour, 14 minutes, and 33 seconds, or 52.18% of their respective films. Exactly 23 minutes and 24 seconds and 16.70 percentage points separate them from last year’s record-breaking group. In terms of actual time, their average is the 12th highest in the category’s 96-year history, while their percentage mean is the 32nd lowest.

“I despise auditions,” Marlon Brando barked as he launched into the audition for his role in The Godfather. It was his idea, I reminded him, so he himself had caused his actors angst, not the studio.
Actors’ angst was much in evidence yet again last weekend at the SAG Awards. Brilliant performances were being honored, formidable talent was on display, and Barbra Streisand clearly owned the room.
But the evening had a problematic subtext: The anticipated turnaround in job opportunities hadn’t happened across Hollywood. The epoch of “peak TV” seems to be drifting away, with words like “contraction” echoing in the trade.
To be sure, none of this inhibited SAG honorees from thanking their casting directors for their good picks and even endorsing the Academy’s decision to create a new entity: a casting branch.

In the upcoming Deadpool 3, fans are all hyped up about Jennifer Garner, who may be making a comeback as Elektra in the Marvel world. People are getting excited not just about the Elektra comeback buzz but also because of the cool vibes Garner and the 47-year-old are bringing to their new movie.
Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on 30 (2004)
Reynolds is the funny guy, and Garner kicks butt in action roles, so you can bet their on-screen duo is going to be a blast, like in The Adam Project, and hope for an equally thrilling performance in Deadpool 3.

Even before convicted s*x offender and disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein’s criminal, predatory behavior sparked the global phenomenon of the #MeToo movement in 2017 that questioned and examined the ubiquity of harassment and assault that women from all walks of life, unfortunately, undergo, the Miramax co-founder earned a reputation of notoriety for being ‘exasperating’ and just overall difficult.

Many who worked alongside him (including those who later admitted to not being privy to the deplorable acts of the producer) mentioned his crass, ill-mannered disposition and unforgiving temper. There were also those subject to one-off occurrences, which revealed to them the despotic, sinister ways of Weinstein prior to the shared collective that rose against him.
Among those who saw this side of him was Egot winner Barbra Streisand.
