Deadline reports that Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis will officially premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17th.
The project has been a long time coming, as Coppola began writing Megalopolis back in the 1980s but recognized that it would require a huge budget to match its massive scope, so it sat on a shelf for decades. In order to get the film made, he put his own money on the line, reportedly upwards of $120 million. The film also boasts quite a star-studded ensemble cast, which includes Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, Db Sweeney, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Bailey Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, and James Remar.

Francis Ford Coppola’s long-awaited “Megalopolis” will have its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, IndieWire has confirmed.
While the full festival lineup will be announced April 10, Deadline first reported that the epic has received the gala premiere slot at Cannes for a May 17 debut and that it will play in competition.
However, “Megalopolis” still has not secured distribution, IndieWire understands. Coppola’s attorney Barry Hirsch is working on selling the film, and he previously told IndieWire the film was unlikely to debut at a festival until it landed distribution.
The feature will be Coppola’s return to Cannes following his respective Palme d’Or wins for “The Conversation” and “Apocalypse Now.” His other Cannes film was “Tetro,” which screened in Directors Fortnight.

Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project “Megalopolis” will officially premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, according to an individual familiar with the project. The film will debut in a gala slot on May 17.
“Megalopolis” boasts an all-star cast, including Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Shia Labeouf, Coppola’s sister Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman (Shire’s son), Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, D.B. Sweeney, Baily Ives, Grace VanderWaal and James Remar.
Coppola wrote the screenplay in the 1980s and has finally brought the film to fruition, investing over $100 million of his own money into the project.
Last week, Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux told Variety that he’d been courting Coppola to bring his latest film to the Croisette after the famed director presented “Apocalypse Now Redux” during Fremaux’s first year at the festival in 1995.

After 13 years, legendary Oscar-winner Francis Ford Coppola is seemingly back with a new movie, Megalopolis, which is slated to be released in late 2024, although that could still be pushed back. After a controversial outing with 2011’s Twixt, Coppola has finished his new movie, a sci-fi epic with an ensemble cast, which has been screened for distributors in the United States. As of the time of writing, not much is known about the movie, but Deadline reports that the film’s runtime is 2 hours and 13 minutes, and that is without the credits, but as Mark Fleming Jr. writes, the runtime seems “remarkably brief,” which indicates that Coppola has indeed made a great movie.
Megalopolis is an interesting story altogether, as the movie was conceived way back in 1979, while Coppola was filming Apocalypse Now, one of the greatest war movies ever made. Now, 45 years later, the movie is finally complete, as the...

When you look at the cast of Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, it’s pretty amazing how many up-and-coming young actors were involved, most of whom were complete unknowns at that point. Over forty years after its release, Coppola has shared audition footage of The Outsiders on Instagram, featuring Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillion, Ralph Macchio, and more. There’s even footage of actors who didn’t get roles in the movie, including a young Anthony Michael Hall.

Although there’s no distributor yet confirmed for Francis Ford Coppola’s decades-in-development, nearly completed epic Megalopolis, we’re starting to get a sense of when we may see the $100 million epic. The director himself recently indicated it’ll be out in a few months, but according to a new report, a fall release is more likely.
In a round-up of Cannes possibilities, Deadline notes the movie is targeting “a big fall IMAX release,” which means a Venice or North American festival (i.e. TIFF or NYFF) could be more likely than a visit to the Croisette. The article also notes it’s unlikely that Steve McQueen’s Blitz, Mike Leigh’s Hard Truths, David Lowery’s Mother Mary, Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, and Luca Guadagnino’s Queer will be stopping by Cannes, but George Miller’s Furiosa, Audrey Diwan’s Emmanuelle, Andrea Arnold’s Bird, and David Cronenberg’s The Shrouds,...

Francis Ford Coppola has been hard at work on Megalopolis, his sci-fi epic that has been decades in the making. The director took to Instagram to unveil the first look at Megalopolis, which shows a dingy, rain-soaked alley with a collapsed statue in the center. It’s not much, but the first look at Megalopolis does potentially show that the project is on track to be released later this year. Plot details have largely been kept under wraps, but the film is said to center on an architect who seeks to rebuild New York City as a utopia after a disaster. The director did offer a few more details two years ago, but they’re fairly ambiguous.

In the upcoming musical romantic comedy “That’s Amore!,” audiences will have their chance to see John Travolta doing what so many of his fans love to see him doing — singing and dancing with a smile on his face.
The star’s enduring popularity certainly isn’t lost on writer-director Nick Vallelonga, who won two Oscars for writing and producing the 2018 hit “Green Book,” and is thrilled to be finally getting the film off the ground. “I’m constantly writing and developing scripts, and I’ve always had Travolta in mind for the role. I got to work with John on a George Gallo film [“The Poison Rose”] and I was his stand-in for a week on ‘Staying Alive,’ so I’ve always been a big fan of his work. He just makes you happy when you see him on screen, and I’ve always dreamed of making this movie with him.

“No One Will Save You,” the tale of a young woman (Kaitlyn Dever) battling extraterrestrial foes, just premiered on Hulu. In many ways it’s the ultimate scary alien invasion movie, throwing in menacing extraterrestrial intruders, abductions, ominously hovering UFOs and even a creepy “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” motif with gooey creatures nestled in your throat. It’s very scary and very good – so good, in fact, that you’ll probably have a hankering for more creepy stories of alien visitation.
To that end, here are five more scary-as-hell alien movies to watch after you finish “No One Will Save You” – and where you can watch them right now.

Megalopolis, the long-awaited passion project from Francis Ford Coppola, is the latest film to land an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA. The film finished production earlier this year so it is unknown what the agreement would be used for, but with festival season ramping up it could be getting one in order to be sold in one of the markets, or potentially to screen at a festival, in which case it would need an agreement for publicity purposes.
Reps for Coppola could not be reached for comment Thursday after the film appeared on SAG-AFTRA’s daily updates of its interim agreements list. The film was granted an agreement on Wednesday, according to the guild.
Adam Driver stars in Megalopolis alongside Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, Db Sweeney, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Bailey Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, and James Remar.

Whenever you see a film that opens with the words “based on real events”, you can be sure of two things. One, you’re going to have a good time. Two, that this film will probably contain about as much factual material as I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! contains butter.
But we don’t care!
We’re not just talking about biopics or historical films here, we’re talking about crime movies like Pain & Gain, Catch Me If You Can, romances like It Could Happen to You, and crime romances like I Love You Phillip Morris. And of course the horror genre absolutely loves a “Based On A True Story” title card and poster slogan. The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and all The Conjuring movies have one (making the last the first ever Based On A True Cinematic Universe).
So the question is,...

The director of 1993’s enduring classic Fire in the Sky, Bloody Disgusting has learned that Robert Lieberman passed away at the age of 75 earlier this month after a battle with cancer.
Many horror fans consider Fire in the Sky to be the most terrifying alien abduction movie ever made, with one scene in particular being among the scariest in the genre’s history.
Released in theaters in 1993, Fire in the Sky was based on Travis Walton’s book The Walton Experience, which itself was based on Walton’s real-life tales of alien abduction.
In the film’s most harrowing scene, Walton (played by D.B. Sweeney) is experimented on by a group of aliens, first emerging from a slimy cocoon and then being subjected to various forms of extraterrestrial torture. It’s a sequence that once seen is never unseen, frequently popping up on lists of the scariest scenes in horror...

When people think of moments from Disney movies, they often focus on the sweeter examples. From Snow White dancing with Dopey to Jasmine and Aladdin discovering a whole new world, there's no shortage of adorable Disney scenes to choose from. Yet, as many Disney fans know, there's always been a darker side to the Mouse House's films. This comes through clearest in the studio's most frightening sequences, especially those that focus on the not-so-magical topic of death.
To some, the death of Bambi's mother remains a traumatic memory. For others, Mufasa's tragic demise in "The Lion King" left an inescapable mark on their youth. Whether they feature a dreadful antagonist's end or an adorable sidekick's demise, these moments deserve our admiration for giving us goosebumps well into our adult years. While we won't be focusing on any Pixar moments (since they deserve a spotlight of their own), there are...

With Francis Ford Coppola’s decades-in-development passion project Megalopolis recently wrapped after a smooth production, there’s been some speculation that the $100 million epic––starring Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, Db Sweeney, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Bailey Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, James Remar, and Giancarlo Esposito––could see the light of day before the end of the year, but that won’t be the case.
As announced at Wondercon 2023, Popverse reports the Syzygy, the comics publisher, will be releasing a graphic novel tie-in for Megalopolis timed with its release in 2024. Coming from Syzygy co-founder Chris Ryall and artist Jacob Phillips, who were contacted by Coppola, they spent time on set developing this adaptation. “The exciting thing is that I’ve only worked directly with him on this,” Ryall said. “This isn’t the kind of thing...

It’s hard to believe we will actually see Francis Ford Coppola’s decades-in-development passion project Megalopolis in the near future as production is nearing its end. With a cast featuring Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, Db Sweeney, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Bailey Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, James Remar, and Giancarlo Esposito, the $100 million epic is now wrapping up a Georgia shoot that was on-schedule and within budget, despite what some may say.
We can now glean a few more details on the production thanks to Adam Driver, who is doing press for his forthcoming sci-fi dinosaur thriller 65. Speaking to Paste Magazine he said he’ll be taking some time off having just finished Megalopolis, with no set plans for upcoming films. “Megalopolis is one of the most exciting things that I’ve ever been a part of,...

“Megalopolis” has a new resident.
TheWrap has confirmed that Giancarlo Esposito, perhaps best known for his role as heavies in “Breaking Bad” (and “Better Call Saul”) and “The Mandalorian,” has joined Francis Ford Coppola’s sprawling sci-fi epic. He joins an already stacked cast that includes Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Aubrey Plaza, Laurence Fishburne, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Dustin Hoffman, Shia LeBeouf, James Remar and D.B. Sweeney.
The plot for “Megalopolis” concerns an architect who becomes obsessed with rebuilding a formerly grand city. Coppola first started thinking about the idea in the 1980’s (last year on a podcast Rob Lowe said the director brought it up to him on the set of “The Outsiders”) and by 2007 Coppola had suggested that the project would never actually see the light of day. That changed last year when it was announced that Coppola would be sinking more than 120 million of his own money into the project,...

Francis Ford Coppola has already filled his sci-fi epic Megalopolis with an all-star cast, but hell, let’s toss one more in there. Deadline has reported that Giancarlo Esposito has joined the cast of Megalopolis, but the nature of his character is being kept under wraps.
In addition to Giancarlo Esposito, the cast of Megalopolis includes Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, Db Sweeney, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Bailey Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, and James Remar. The film centers on an architect who seeks to rebuild New York City as a utopia after a disaster.

Francis Ford Coppola began writing Megalopolis in the 1980s but recognized that it would require a huge budget to match its massive scope, so it sat on a shelf for decades.

Who doesn't love a good war movie — the romance, the spectacle, the exhilaration, the drama, the heartbreak? Well, as it turns out, most critics seem to hate a majority of war films and save their positive reviews for a select few, such as "Apocalypse Now," "Full Metal Jacket," and "Saving Private Ryan." Granted, the genre has produced some real stinkers over the years, but plenty of war epics also endured unwarranted critical disdain; many of these pictures provided rock-solid entertainment but were labeled cliché, sentimental, or too noble for their own good.
Imagine calling a film set in World War II too earnest or berating a romantic epic for its love story.
Look, I'm just as enamored with and respectful of a critic's opinion as the next person, but we can all agree they get it wrong sometimes. As proof, I've compiled a list of war epics I believe were...

The Summer Olympics are just a test of who can run fastest, jump highest, score the most goals. There’s real danger in the winter games! Try skiing down a mountain at high speeds, taking a sled through an icy slide, jumping as far as you can and not breaking your legs on a massive ski jump or not breaking your neck by falling on the ice. The best movies set at the Winter Olympics are about the underdogs who risked their lives and surprised the world…and Will Ferrell sliding crotch first across the ice. But they’re still exciting!

"You owe me big time." Kamikaze Dogfight has unveiled an official trailer for an indie action thriller titled Haymaker, marking the feature directorial debut of Nick Sasso - who also wrote and stars in the film. Haymaker follows a retired Muay Thai fighter now working as a bouncer, who rescues an alluring transgender performer from a nefarious thug, eventually becoming her bodyguard, protector, and confidant. The relationship leads Sasso’s character to make an unexpected return to fighting, risking not only his relationship but his life. Sasso stars with Nomi Ruiz as Nomi, along with Zoë Bell, Udo Kier, D.B. Sweeney, Veronica Falcón, John Ventimiglia, and Kathryn Kates. This actually looks pretty slick; or at least the trailer is compelling with a killer score. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Nick Sasso's Haymaker, direct from Kd's YouTube: Haymaker...
