Tom Arnold has joined the cast of writer, producer, and director Rohit Karn Batra’s drama “The Gun on Second Street.”
The film, for which Storyboard Media launched international sales during last year’s Cannes Film Market, is produced by Guy J. Louthan of Ransom Films with Rikin Shah serving as one of the executive producers.
An allegory of the gun crisis in the United States, “The Gun on Second Street” follows two Pittsburgh police partners and best friends who are called to an uneventful domestic violence dispute on Second Street. This quickly escalates to a violent scuffle as Officer Tj Meadows III accidentally shoots and kills his partner, Officer Kevin Cooper, with his backup gun. Years later, no longer a cop and still traumatized, Tj moves back to Pittsburgh and finds his way to Kevin’s widow, Kacie. Arnold will take on the role of Police Chief Richard “Dick” Steinberger,...

Save for Tom Cruise and maybe Kevin Feige, no name carries more weight in the world of tentpole filmmaking than James Cameron.
In December 2022, more than a decade after the writer/director’s triumphant “Avatar” became the highest grossing movie of all time, Cameron’s sequel and visual effects marvel “Avatar: The Way of Water” provided a massive splash of ticket sales for a drought-ridden box office. It’s now the third highest grossing film of all time, and its run propped up theaters in what IndieWire’s Tom Brueggeman described as a good start to the 2023.
That’s standard fare for Cameron, of course. He first made box office history in 1997 with the epic historical fiction romance “Titanic”: a cinematic knockout that ran in theaters for nearly ten months and remains the fourth highest grossing movie ever made. He won Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Editing at the year’s Academy Awards.

James Cameron’s True Lies has long been regarded as a classic action-comedy, blending heart-pounding thrills with laugh-out-loud humor. With its recent release in stunning 4K resolution, this beloved film receives a visual upgrade that breathes new life into its explosive action sequences and vibrant cinematography.
Originally released in 1994, True Lies stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as Harry Tasker, a seemingly ordinary computer salesman who leads a double life as a top-secret government agent. Tasker’s world is turned upside down when his wife, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, becomes unwittingly entangled in his espionage activities, leading to a series of high-octane adventures across the globe.

Never bet against James Cameron. The man is responsible for some of the best and highest-grossing blockbusters of the last 40 years, and yet every time he makes a new (and admittedly risky) movie, everyone is skeptical about its chances of success. Granted, Cameron himself saying "Avatar: The Way of Water" had to become one of the highest-grossing movies of all time just to break even does sound ludicrous and nearly impossible, but still! Jimmy C delivers.
Of course, hindsight is 20/20, and it is easy to see now that the "Avatar" franchise just prints money, but before 2009 there were plenty of reasons to be doubtful of a brand-new sci-fi movie making that much money. This means that James Cameron faced naysayers, particularly studio execs who thought they knew how to deliver the highest-grossing movie of all time better than the guy who had done it already.

Tom Arnold was a showbiz joke in the early 1990s.
The unknown actor suddenly became a gossip mag regular in 1990 as Roseanne Barr's publicity-hungry husband. When she brought Arnold in as a writer on her hugely popular sitcom, there was a sense of coattail-riding. When she cast him on the show, and, two years later, convinced ABC to give him his own sitcom, this sense curdled for some into fact. And when several prominent TV critics shredded the series, Barr created a PR crisis by firing off nasty faxes to the naysayers (including a homophobia-tinged screed to USA Today's Matt Roush that brought her bigotry to the fore decades prior to her Trump-era meltdown). It was all terribly ugly. Barr had more than enough Nielsen ratings juice to weather this storm, but Arnold's fame seemed to be nearing its fifteenth minute.

You can watch the official trailer for Desert Fiends below, which runs over 3-minutes long and plays out like a highlight reel of the old school practical effects you can expect in this one.

In Desert Fiends, “Six friends break down in the middle of nowhere on the way to a concert and encounter a deranged family that lives in the desert killing anyone they come across.”

It's hard to say that one of the most successful filmmakers of all time has underrated movies under his belt, especially when said underrated movies star some of the most famous actors of all time, but I think it's safe to say that James Cameron's underrated movies are having a moment right now. Both "The Abyss" and "True Lies" have been absent for a whole cycle of home video distribution, never graduating to a simple Blu-ray release. In fact, they have even been hard to find on digital release.
It's not like these movies are obscure. Both were successful on release. Maybe not "Terminator" or "Titanic" successful, but big hits nonetheless. They just didn't carry the same cache as his biggest hits.
Maybe that'll change now that they're getting the 4K treatment, although the word on both of those transfers is mixed from the home video professionals who have checked out the disc.

"True Lies" is a uniquely '90s movie. The action-comedy features "Roseanne" star Tom Arnold, "Wayne's World" breakout Tia Carrere, and "Terminator" action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger, plus Bill Paxton and Jamie Lee Curtis. While Curtis is, of course, a recent Oscar winner, Paxton passed away in 2017, and the remaining lead actors haven't exactly been headlining many major blockbusters of late. It's also commonly cited as the first movie to cost over $100 million to make, a figure that feels extremely quaint when compared to today's bloated budgets.
Despite the inherent '90s-ness of "True Lies," rumors constantly persist about a sequel to the movie. Writer-director James Cameron is obviously a little busy these days with the "Avatar" sequels, but is there a chance he could ever return to the world of secret agent Harry Tasker? If not, might another filmmaker rise to the challenge and make "True Lies 2" happen? Here's everything...

Just under 30 years since its release, True Lies remains subjectively one of the greatest action movies of the ‘90s. With incredible set pieces, terrorism and one tantalizing strip tease — thankfully not featuring Tom Arnold — True Lies is a thrilling and quite funny masterpiece from James Cameron. And while we never got a sequel, we did recently get a reunion with stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Schwarzenegger and Curtis recently reunited at a charity event over the weekend, with the latter — who played Helen Tasker, wife to Arnold’s Harry — posting photos on Instagram to document the occasion.

A post shared by Jamie Lee Curtis (@jamieleecurtis)
As per People, Arnold Schwarzenegger praised his True Lies co-star as “most extraordinary actress” with a talent for “[kicking] some serious ass”, which she absolutely did in True Lies. He also took time to praise the importance of her role in the movie.

Tom Harper’s Heart of Stone is a paint-by-numbers global espionage thriller that isn’t done any favors by releasing so soon after Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. The film is similar in scope and tone to the most recent Ethan Hunt spy caper but vastly inferior by almost every other measure, especially when it comes to action and characterization.

Those mockbuster makers at The Asylum are at it again. When the first live-action Transformers movie was released back in 2007, The Asylum got in on the giant robot action by releasing a movie called Transmorphers. The Transformers sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen followed in 2009 – so The Asylum responded with the Transmorphers prequel Transmorphers: Fall of Man. Since then, the Transformers franchise has continued to grow. There was Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 2011, Transformers: Age of Extinction in 2014, Transformers: The Last Knight in 2017, and the spin-off prequel Bumblebee in 2018. Another prequel, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, is in theatres right now. And while The Asylum has let several Transformers movies come and go without meeting them with a Transmorphers mockbuster, this year they’re finally reviving the franchise with Transmorphers: Mech Beasts! You can watch the film’s trailer in the embed above.

On July 25th, 1990, as Roseanne Barr and Tom Arnold flew high above Jack Murphy Stadium, the San Diego Padres waited to face the Cincinnati Reds in the last of a four-game homestand. But before they would take the field, they would be graced with the presence of one of TV’s biggest stars performing the American National Anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” As the helicopter neared, Arnold looked over the crowd of more than 25,000 and tried to convince his wife that maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. Soon before the first pitch, Roseanne belted her take on Francis Scott Key’s anthem, spit on the field and grabbed her crotch. It would be her most controversial moment…until decades later…
Let’s find out: Wtf Happened to…Roseanne Barr?
But to truly understand what the fuck happened to Roseanne Barr, we go back to the beginning. And the beginning...

When we think of the most iconic late night talk show moments, there are a few that stand out: Crispin Glover nearly taking off David Letterman’s head, Jerry Lawler slapping Andy Kaufman in the face in 1982 and Jay Leno asking Hugh Grant on July 10th, 1995, “What the hell were you thinking?” following his June arrest for engaging in sexual acts with a prostitute named Divine Brown. We couldn’t have said it better, Jay.
Speaking with Chris Wallace on his titular show, Jay Leno remembered giving Hugh Grant one last chance to back out of the interview, which was scheduled well before the incident. “You know, he was great. Nowadays, you’d have 100 handlers. I called him up, and I said, ‘You still in for tomorrow?’ He goes, ‘Yeah.’ He said, ‘You know, I effed up. And, you know, it’s my fault.’”

You probably didn’t notice, but earlier this year, CBS launched a TV adaptation of True Lies, the 1994 James Cameron-directed action comedy that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis as, respectively, a master spy and the civilian wife who is shocked to discover what her husband really does for a living. The TV show, starring Steve Howey from Shameless and Ginger Gonzaga from She-Hulk in the Arnold and Jamie Lee roles, aired 13 episodes to very little fanfare before being canceled a few weeks ago.

For those of you who've been clamoring for "True Lies 2" (i.e. Tom Arnold), the upcoming series "Fubar" is likely the closest you're going to get. Created by television veteran Nick Santora, the show stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a CIA operative who's been lying to his daughter about his profession for years. Turns out the familial duplicity is a two-way street, as his daughter (Monica Barbaro) has been fibbing about her work as a spy, too. When the father and daughter are assigned to work together, their relationship essentially begins anew. And, yes, Tom Arnold is along for the ride.
This is Schwarzenegger's first official TV endeavor, and, if nothing else, it's got a fun supporting cast in Jay Baruchel, Aparna Brielle (so good on "AP Bio"), and Scott Thompson. Phil Abraham ("The Sopranos" and "Mad Men") directed the pilot, which is also encouraging. But, really, we're here for the...

Omega Sector is getting some help from one of their own, a retired operative played by none other than Tom Arnold, who starred in the original True Lies film on which the CBS series is based, in the April 26 episode. For Arnold, the only major concern was scheduling, which they were able to work out. “Of course, I wanted to do it,” he tells TV Insider. And while he was expecting it to be a small cameo, once he read the script, he realized, “Holy hell, they’ve really worked their butts off of it. This is not a cameo. The episode’s about me and my ex, and there’s all kinds of action.” While he’s not playing the same character he did (Omar Miller is the show’s Gib), “If you watch the movie, you’ll be like, ‘What is that guy going to be doing in 29 years?...

Not letting the success of Ape vs Monster go to waste The Asylum is back with Ape vs. Mecha Ape. This time they’ve brought in Marc Gottlieb to write and direct. While it’s only his second feature, the other was Cousin Howard back in 1995, and the first one for The Asylum he’s written several scripts for them including Jungle Run, 2025 Armageddon, and Aquarium of the Dead. Can he kick the franchise into gear after its dismal first film?
Ape vs. Mecha Ape opens with a chemical weapons plant that looks like an old warehouse being attacked by what looks like the giant ape Abraham. A few explosions later we see that it’s actually a giant, well-armed, robot which makes short work of the plant’s security.

I love that he’s the longest-serving agent and how whatever has happened in the field has led him to be the tactical logistics and tech person. If you love James Cameron’s 1994 smash True Lies — the effort to out-Bond the James Bond movies of that period remains evident in every tremendous action set-piece — it’s probably better not to think of CBS’ True Lies as having anything to do with it.
If you hate James Cameron’s 1994 smash True Lies — it’s creepy, misogynistic, xenophobic and the pacing dies for an hour in the middle — it’s probably better not to think of CBS’ True Lies as having anything to do with it.

When James Cameron brought True Lies to theaters in 1994, it was seen as a spy thriller showcase for Arnold Schwarzenegger featuring a whole lot of amazing stunts and practical effects, with Jamie Lee Curtis serving as eye candy with almost accidental skills thrown in. The CBS adaptation premiering this week is more of a level playing field between husband and wife Harry and Helen Tasker, played by Steve Howey (Shameless) and Ginger Gonzaga (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law).
Gonzaga admits she didn’t watch the original True Lies, but she acknowledges its problematic treatment of Helen. “I had never seen it, and that was helpful for me in playing Helen for the pilot because I wasn’t affected by Jamie’s iconic performance — I didn’t want to be!” she says. “I’ve seen half of it; I’ve seen up to the helicopter. Deadline revealed eOne’s deal with Williams last year and the Broadchurch director is forging scripted TV shows for all platforms.
