Nothing gold can stay, and to make room for everything new at Hulu in November, we have to say goodbye to dozens of the series and movies on the platform. The streamer will make room for its upcoming Christmas library by losing some of its horror-themed titles throughout the month, including “Stephen King's It,” most of its “Saw” franchise, and “Shaun Of The Dead.” Other major titles leaving the platform include Emma Stone’s breakthrough comedy “Easy A,” the Nora Ephron classic “Sleeping in Seattle,” and more.

Bonnie Bedelia was born on March 25, 1948 in New York City, New York. She began her career in the late 1960s with small roles in television shows such as Love of Life, and The Big Valley. In 1978, she received critical acclaim for her performance in the television movie, The Death of Richie. However, it was in the 1980s that Bedelia truly became a household name with her roles in blockbuster films such as Die Hard, and Presumed Innocent. Two true-life sports movies opening on the same weekend! Oh yeah, it was bound to happen but we’re taking a big detour (hmm), maybe even a U-turn from the video game F1 flick. For one thing. this one is set squarely in the past, before Pong was a staple, way back in the splashy 1970s, after a brief stop in the sensational ’60s. Oh, and this concerns the American pastime (as in hot dogs and apple pie), in the tradition of The Natural and The Rookie (with which it shares a star). Now the title doesn’t refer to the pitcher’s mound, but rather to the obstacles its focus must face (perhaps closer to a steep mountain). And since it’s also the last name of the family in this faith-based drama it’s simply The Hill.

Chicago – Catching a young actor in an early career stride is like catching lightning in a bottle. Colin Ford has such a breakthrough role portraying Rickey Hill, a Texas ballplayer who is battling a degenerative disease that may not give him enough time to fulfill his major league dreams. The film is aptly titled “The Hill.”
Rickey Hill wears leg braces as a child due to a degenerative spinal disease, but enjoys playing baseball. His strict pastor father (Dennis Quaid) dissuades his son from the sport, wanting to shield him from further injuries. But despite all odds, the older Rickey (Colin Ford) becomes a baseball “phenom.” When he begins to be scouted for the major leagues, the father and son are still divided, but Rickey Hill won’t give up.

It’s long been said that religion and politics don’t mix. But religion and sports, that’s another story, especially at the movies. The Hill, telling the inspirational true-life story of baseball player Rickey Hill — don’t feel ignorant if you haven’t heard of him; most people seeing the film won’t have either — feels perfectly engineered to appeal to both sports fans and religious folk, especially in those parts of the country so quaintly described as “the heartland.” Basically substituting baseball for dancing, the film plays like an updated version of Footloose, with Dennis Quaid replacing John Lithgow as the disapproving pastor.
When we’re first introduced to Rickey, he’s a young boy growing up impoverished in rural Texas, with braces on his legs because of a degenerative spinal disease. That doesn’t stop him from pursuing his deepest love, namely hitting balls with a bat,...

After two dismal weekends at the box office, any chance of things recovering for the last weekend of August doesn’t seem likely, although one daring movie (and this year’s “National Cinema Day“) will try to make an impact. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
On Sunday, August 27, many North American theaters will be offering $4 movie tickets in hopes of keeping the burst of movie attendance thanks to “Barbenheimer” going into September. It will be hard to tell what sort of effect it has this year, because studio estimates on Sunday might not be able to account for any bump from National Cinema Day.
With that in mind, Sony is releasing the racing movie “Gran Turismo,” which isn’t based on the Sony Playstation driving simulator as much as it tells the true story of Jann Mardenborough, as played by Archie Madekwe (“Midsommar”), a gamer whose...

Briarcliff Entertainment has released the first trailer for The Hill.
Growing up impoverished in small-town Texas, young Rickey Hill shows an extraordinary ability for hitting a baseball, despite being burdened by leg braces from a degenerative spinal disease.
His stern, pastor father (Dennis Quaid) discourages Rickey from playing baseball to protect him from injury, and to have him follow in his footsteps and become a preacher.
As a young man, Rickey (Colin Ford) becomes a baseball phenomenon. His desire to participate in a try-out for a legendary major league scout divides the family and threatens Rickey’s dream of playing professional baseball.
Based on a true story, The Hill is directed by Jeff Celentano and also stars Joelle Carter, country music singer and songwriter Randy Houser, Golden Globe nominee Bonnie Bedelia, and Scott Glenn.
The Hill opens in theaters August 25, 2023.

"How many miracles do you need?" Briarcliff Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for an American baseball biopic called The Hill, arriving in theaters later in August this summer. It's set for a wide release, another of these Americana specials for everyone to enjoy. Colin Ford stars as Rickey Hill, a boy who has an extraordinary ability for hitting a baseball despite being burdened by leg braces from a degenerative spinal disease. His father discourages him from playing to protect him from any injury, and to have him follow in his footsteps as a preacher, however he goes on to become a baseball phenomenon. Dennis Quaid co-stars with Ford, joined by Joelle Carter, country music singer-songwriter Randy Houser, Bonnie Bedelia, and Scott Glenn. Based on a true story, the director explains: "I'm setting out to make an iconic film in the classic sense, a beautiful sweeping and powerful inspirational story.

One word that comes to mind when you hear the title Die Hard is “definitive.” After all, it’s widely considered star Bruce Willis’ definitive role. Still, it’s also, arguably, the definitive action movie and even the definitive Christmas movie by some (in a debate that’s grown a bit tiresome). Indeed, Bruce Willis as John McClane, fighting terrorists in the Nakatomi skyscraper in Los Angeles, is a defining image of the eighties. Director John McTiernan, writers Steven E. De Souza and Jeb Stuart, and star Bruce Willis crafted a carnage-filled epic grounded by a very human hero – John McClane, who was a notable departure from the icons of the genre at the time, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. McClane was no superman. Instead, he was human, flawed and broken-hearted over his failed marriage. His only goal was to rescue his estranged wife, Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) and get home for Christmas with his kids.

Many movie stars are making their way to television. Sylvester Stallone made his streaming series debut in Paramount+’s Tulsa King to much praise and a second season renewal. Harrison Ford will also be coming to TV in the Apple Original comedy, Shrinking. A previous film of Harrison Ford’s, Presumed Innocent, will now be re-adapted for Apple TV+ and word is, Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in the leading role.
The Hollywood Reporter has the skinny on the project, which is an adaptation of a novel by author Scott Turow. Apple had ordered a season back in February with a heavy-hitting production team behind it. This team includes TV veteran David E. Kelley, as well as the co-creator of Castle Rock, Dustin Thomason, and producing juggernaut J.J. Abrams. Abrams’ Bad Robot will be producing in association with Warner Bros. Television which signed Bad Robot to a huge deal.

Christmas is fast approaching and while some will be busy decking the halls with boughs of holly, for many action movie fans the holidays are all about indulging in the time-honored tradition of watching Die Hard.
There are some who would have you believe Die Hard isn’t a Christmas movie. To them, we say “bah, humbug,” or rather “yippee-ki-yay….” For one thing, it’s got John McClane cast firmly in the role of Santa Claus, roaming the corridors of Nakatomi Plaza trying to find out “who’s naughty or nice.” Then there is Han Gruber, a modern-day Grinch with a dash of Ebenezer Scrooge intent on ruining the festive fun. He sees the error in his ways, of course. Unfortunately for him, that moment of realization comes as he takes a swan dive off the top of a very tall building.

"I need to know if I ever mattered to her… Maybe you've wondered that about your Dad?" Oooph. Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a cheesy holiday romance, continuing their Hallmark Channel takeover. The Noel Diary is a sappy story about an author who goes home and discovers his mom's old diary in her estate. Maybe he will find "unexpected" love as well? Of course he will. Cleaning out his childhood home at Christmas, a novelist meets an intriguing young woman searching for her birth mother. Will an old diary unlock their pasts — and hearts? Based on the novel by Richard Paul Evans. The film stars Justin Hartley as Jake + Barrett Doss as Rachel, with Essence Atkins, Bonnie Bedelia, and James Remar. Though the best part about this film, obviously, is the doggie that appears a few times – but not often enough. I just hope he's a part of the plot,...

Stephen King’s second published novel, ‘Salem’s Lot, arrived in hardcover in October 1975 and was King’s next step toward transforming himself from an obscure Maine writer to a pop culture phenomenon. His first novel, Carrie, had sold modestly in hardcover, but the paperback edition of the book took off, selling more than one million copies in its first year of release. Sales were also helped by Brian De Palma’s 1976 movie adaptation, which was not just a box office hit but yielded Academy Award nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.
And the paperback edition of ‘Salem’s Lot came out right around this time; it became King’s second bestseller in a row and cemented his status as a superstar horror writer. The book, at its core, also posed a simple yet alluring question: What if vampires invaded a small town in rural Maine in the 20th century?...

"Die Hard" is one of the most beloved action films of all time. Above and beyond the regular "Is it a Christmas movie?" discourse that surrounds the film, "Die Hard" stands as a watershed moment in the action genre. The casting of Bruce Willis as the everyman action hero — as opposed to the Schwarzeneggers and Stallones of the day, muscle-bound demigods whose victories seemed absolutely certain — brought a new level of humanity and an underdog spirit to American action movies that persists today.
On the opposite side of that coin lies the film's antagonist, Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), one of cinema's great villains and a prototype of the dashing, "love to hate them" style of action baddies. Add in the script's bracing wit, John McTiernan's taut direction, and some of the most thrilling stunts in action history, and you have a stone-cold classic.
Inevitably, a franchise grew out of the film,...

Justin Hartley’s first big project released post-This Is Us will be Netflix’s The Noel Diary, a drama set around the holidays and based on the novel by Richard Paul Evans. Today, Netflix released the first photo featuring Justin Hartley and a canine co-star. The streaming service also announced they’ve set a November 24, 2022 premiere date.
Director Charles Shyer adapted the novel with Rebecca Connor and David Golden.
“I wanted to adapt this novel for a few different reasons. The story of The Noel Diary felt to me like one that could comfortably embrace humor and humanity – while at the same time offer great visual and directorial possibilities. A movie that, as Billy Wilder once said, ‘Could make ’em laugh and make ’em cry.’ I chose to cast Justin Hartley from his work on This Is Us.

Exclusive: Following the movie’s TIFF premiere, Relativity Media will open Justine Bateman’s feature directorial debut Violet on Oct. 29 in NY and LA with an expansion to follow on Nov. 5.
The pic will also hit in home demand on Nov. 9.
Relativity, as we first told you, picked up Violet after its world premiere at SXSW.
The pic follows Violet Calder (Olivia Munn) as she realizes that she can no longer ignore the daily barrage of self-criticisms (voiced by Justin Theroux) that clouds her life. These self-criticism cause her to make fear-based decisions and hold her back from the kind of professional, personal, and romantic life she knows she wants. Unsure how to live a life free of that self-doubt, like her childhood friend Red (Luke Bracey), Violet realizes she has no choice but to travel the road that is more frightening to her than the fear that holds her back: Doing everything differently.

Hollywood’s latest obsession with the works of prolific author and horror icon Stephen King shows no signs of slowing down, and just like the last time he found his novels and short stories being adapted for the big and small screens on a regular basis, the most recent batch have also been marked with inconsistency.
With so many filmmakers of vastly different styles tackling the material with such wildly fluctuating results, it almost seems hard to believe that stone-cold classics like The Shining and The Shawshank Redemption are based on books written by the same mind behind infamous duds like Dreamcatcher and The Dark Tower.
There are currently eleven movies and nine TV shows in various stages of development based on the 72 year-old’s literary output, and while we might be veering dangerously close to saturation point, it appears that the industry’s latest Stephen King renaissance is set...

Ed Harris has popped up a few times in my Catalog From the Beyond’s coverage, which isn’t surprising considering he’s one of my favorite character actors of all time. He brings an intensity that always seems like he’s on the brink of a meltdown in any movie he’s in, from a vengeful gangster in A History of Violence to an obsessed LARPer in George Romero’s Knightriders. The dude even dances like a nut in Creepshow. As it turns out, this simmering rage is the perfect fit for the lead in another Stephen King property, 1993’s Needful Things.
Based on King’s 1991 novel, Needful Things features Harris as Castle Rock sheriff Alan Pangborn, who’s settled into what he thinks will be a quiet life after leaving the Pittsburgh police force. As the movie opens, things are looking up, as he proposed to local diner owner Polly Chalmers.

A director has been announced for New Line’s upcoming film version of Stephen King’s classic novel, ‘Salem’s Lot, and it seems the search did not have to go too far or wide: Gary Dauberman, who’s already writing the screenplay, will now get behind the camera as well for the James Wan-produced project, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Dauberman made his directorial debut last year on Annabelle Comes Home, easily the best of the three Annabelle movies and a genuinely creepy exercise in its own right. Dauberman has also written the Annabelle trilogy, as well as The Nun, and also co-wrote the King-based films It and It: Chapter 2 with director Andy Muschietti, all for Warner Bros. Jake Peralta finally got the “Die Hard” fantasy he never knew he always wanted during his honeymoon in Mexico on the Season 6 premiere of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (now on NBC), thanks to an elaborate roleplaying scenario set up by his new bride, Amy Santiago.
Amy (Melissa Fumero) made all of Jake’s (Andy Samberg) wildest dreams come true when she dressed up as Holly Gennaro aka Bonnie Bedelia’s character in Jake’s favorite movie of all time. And when we say dressed up we mean the spitting image of John McClane’s wife, with a wig, outfit, jewelry, the whole nine yards.

The debate over whether Bruce Willis‘ 1988 action classic Die Hard is a Christmas movie rages on — but the New York and Los Angeles police departments have their minds made up.
“On this Christmas Eve, we’d like to acknowledge our partners at @Lapdhq who have been working with us to protect Christmas since Hans Gruber’s 1988 attack on Nakatomi Plaza,” New York police tweeted Monday.
They concluded their post with a hashtag declaring “YesItsAChristmasMovie.”

Fox is finally settling the age-old debate about whether “Die Hard” is a Christmas movie.
The studio recently re-cut the classic film’s original trailer to give it a holiday spin. Declaring it “the greatest Christmas story ever told,” Twentieth Century Fox also released a new log line:
Facing Christmas 3,000 miles from his estranged wife and two children, New York policeman John McClane (Bruce Willis) flies to Los Angeles bearing presents and hoping to patch up his marriage. Stylish and cool Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) is in Los Angeles as well for the holiday season, but he’s not there to give out presents. He’s there to take: more than $600 million in negotiable bearer bonds from the multinational Nakatomi Corporation, where McClane’s wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) is an executive. When the takeover becomes hostile, it’s up to John McClane to take on the terrorists with all the...
