The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy (2024)
Space, Surgery & Shenanigans Don’t Miss Season 2 Of ‘The Second Best Hospital In The Galaxy’
The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy (2024)
Photo Credit: Prime Video Get ready for another dose of hilariously absurd intergalactic medical adventures! Prime Video has dropped the official trailer and key art for the highly anticipated second season of the adult animated comedy, The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy. Save the date: Tuesday, May 27, 2025! That’s when all eight episodes will land exclusively on Prime Video, ready to beam into your screens across the globe. From the wonderfully warped mind of creator Cirocco Dunlap and executive producers the brilliant duo of Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne, the series follows the fearless and inseparable surgeon besties, Dr. Sleech and Dr. Klak. These two are known for constantly pushing the boundaries (and likely a few galactic laws) as they tackle the universe’s most bizarre and perilous medical cases. Season two promises even more chaos as Doctors Sleech and Klak find themselves basking in the glow of recent success.

Shia Labeouf and David Mamet Just Might Save Each Other
Image
On May 9, David Mamet’s first directorial film effort in nearly 20 years, Henry Johnson, will be available for streaming on HenryJohnsonMovie.com. The film is a straightforward adaptation of Mamet’s own play, mounted at a black box theater in Venice in 2023 — garnering plenty of acclaim for both the writer and star Shia Labeouf.

The timing could not be better for Labeouf, 38, a highly gifted, scandal-prone actor who currently finds his nose pressed against the Hollywood glass amid fallout from a number of controversies. Not the least of them is a pending lawsuit from former girlfriend FKA Twigs accusing him of sexual assault and emotional distress. Labeouf has conceded to harmful behavior but denies the specific allegations and the matter is set to proceed to trial in September of this year.

In Henry Johnson, he plays Gene, a fast-talking and hyper-intelligent prisoner under whose spell the title character — a white-collar dupe played by Evan Jonigkeit,...

Triple Crown of Acting: Who's Next?
Image
by Eric Blume

Kieran Culkin will have to wait a bit longer before he can add a Tony to his Succession Emmy and A Real Pain Oscar. | © Searchlight Pictures

Back in 2016, I wrote an article here when one of my favorite actresses, Jessica Lange, won a Tony for Long Day’s Journey into Night, thereby joining the club of elite actors who had achieved the Triple Crown of Acting. Only 24 actors have ever achieved this, and since Lange eight years ago, only two people have joined that list (Viola Davis in 2017 with her Emmy; Glenda Jackson in 2018 with her Tony).

I thought it would be fun to take a look at who is a realistic possibility to join that club. I’m reminded of it because, until just a few days ago, there was a chance that person was going to be Kieran Culkin! Culkin had been largely predicted to be...

Kieran Culkin Took the Oscar for ‘A Real Pain,’ and Macaulay Culkin Took the Emotional Damage
Image
For years, Kieran Culkin has steadily built a reputation as one of the finest and most versatile actors in Hollywood, gaining recognition for his role in Succession. At the 2025 Academy Awards, Kieran Culkin took home his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, marking the highest point in his rising career.

But while Kieran’s career reached new heights, it was his older brother, Macaulay Culkin, who had the most heartfelt reaction. Tuned in to only watch him win, Macauley couldn’t help but be emotional. After this, we can only say there’s no better big brother in the Culkin family than Macaulay Culkin.

The Luigi Mangione Musical Comedy Is Already Sold Out
Image
The Tony Award nominations are out, but that isn’t the week’s most exciting theater headline. The big news: The entire run of Luigi: The Musical, a new comedy about Luigi Magione that’s premiering next month in San Francisco, is completely sold out, according to People.

Here’s the official synopsis from the production’s website: “Luigi: the Musical is a comedy that imagines the surreal scenario of Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, sharing a prison with real-life inmates Sam Bankman-Fried and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.”

If that set-up sounds like opportunistic playwrights trying to cash in on multiple contemporary scandals, you wouldn’t be wrong. But as the show’s producers point out, the premise is also “rooted in a strange truth”: Mangione, Bankman-Fried and Diddy were all incarcerated in the same prison. Whoa!

“These three people represent these big...

Kieran Culkin Has One Request For Appearing On Broadway And It’s A Sweet One
Image
Kieran Culkin is not averse to being on Broadway as long as his one condition is met. What’s that? But first, can we talk about Culkin’s two adorable children with Jazz Charton, son Wilder and daughter Kinsey?

You know, last we had a baby update from Culkin, he had won his first Oscar for his beautiful performance in Jesse Eisenberg’s ‘A Real Pain.’

During his speech, he alerted us to the fact that he had a standing deal with his wife that they’d have another baby if he brings home an Oscar.

He brought home the Oscar, so does this mean baby number three’s going to be announced soon? My baby powder is ready when you are.

Tony Awards Nominations Snubs And Surprises: ‘Othello’, Denzel Washington, Jake Gyllenhaal And Kieran Culkin Don’t Make The Cut
Image
Well, big weekly grosses and even bigger stars can’t guarantee a Tony Awards nomination.

Broadway does what Broadway wants, so no Best Play nominations (or anything else) for huge moneymaker Othello, and no Best Play noms for Good Night, and Good Luck, Stranger Things: The First Shadow and The Picture of Dorian Gray. Same for the critical favorite Cult of Love.

While Good Night and Dorian Gray weren’t nominated for Best Play, their big stars — George Clooney and Sarah Snook, respectively — were nominated for their performances, as expected. In fact, Dorian Gray, in which Snook plays all the characters from the Oscar Wilde novel, has the distinction of being the most nominated solo show in Tony history, placing in six categories: Snook’s performance, Kip Williams’ direction, and nods for scenic, lighting, sound and costume design.

2025 Tony Awards nominations: All the snubs and surprises!
Image
The 2025 Tony Awards nominations were unveiled Thursday morning, with the musicals Buena Vista Social Club, Death Becomes Her, and Maybe Happy Ending leading the way with 10 bids apiece in a loaded season on the boards.

There was plenty of expected good news for the likes of Audra McDonald (landing her record 11th nomination for Gypsy), Mia Farrow (scoring the first major peer-group awards nomination of her storied career for The Roommate), and fellow first-timers Nicole Scherzinger (Sunset Boulevard), Sarah Snook (The Picture of Dorian Gray), and Sadie Sink (John Proctor Is the Villain), it wasn't all bows and bouquets for stage set.

But with 42 musicals, plays, and revivals eligible — six more productions than last season — and several legitimate contenders vying for limited slots, there were more than a few notable snubs to go along with a handful of surprises that defied the odds. Here's our breakdown of the biggies.

Tony Awards Nominations: Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal’s ‘Othello’ Shut Out Despite Strong Ticket Sales
Image
Othello, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Denzel Washington, was entirely shut out of the 2025 Tony Award nominations.

While the play received mostly mixed reviews, it has been drawing crowds on Broadway and has frequently had the most expensive average ticket price in the industry, at $374.17 last week.

The new musical Redwood, starring Idina Menzel, was also entirely shut out of the Tony nominations, as was the musical The Last Five Years, starring Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren. McNeal, led by Robert Downey Jr. in his Broadway debut, did not receive any Tony nominations.

Though George Clooney got his first Tony Award nomination for his role in Good Night, and Good Luck, the play, which he co-wrote, did not receive a nod for best play, even as it has also been the highest grossing production on Broadway for the past several weeks.

Similarly, the celebrity-driven Glengarry Glen Ross did not get a...

Tony Awards Nominations Predictions 2025: Will Hollywood Rule The Day?
Image
Forty-two productions are eligible for Tony Award nominations this year – the announcements come Thursday morning – making many of the categories very, very competitive. Will the movie and TV stars take over the awards just as they’ve done at the box office? Is there room in the major categories for the high-tech items like Stranger Things: The First Shadow and The Picture Of Dorian Gray? And can anything stop Cole Escola and Oh, Mary! I wouldn’t bet on it.

The nominations for The 78th Annual Tony Awards will be announced Thursday, May 1, live from Sofitel New York on the Tony Awards official YouTube page at 9 a.m. Et. A selection of categories will be revealed live on CBS Mornings at 8:30 a.m. Et. A complete list of nominees will be available at TonyAwards.com immediately following the announcement.

Final 2025 Tony nominations predictions by show: ‘Death Becomes Her’ and ‘Oh, Mary!’ will lead
Image
A new musical and two original plays will lead the 2025 Tony Awards nominations, according to Gold Derby's official odds in 17 categories ahead of Thursday's announcement.

Death Becomes Her, a stage adaptation of the 1992 cult classic comedy film, will have the biggest tally of all shows with eight. It's expected haul follows its 12 nominations at the Outer Critics Circle last week, where it similarly bested all other shows. Two original musicals, Dead Outlaw and Maybe Happy Ending, will tie at six nominations apiece. Gypsy and Sunset Boulevard, which are our leading contenders for the Best Musical Revival prize, and British import Operation Mincemeat will also likely score well with nominators with five bids each.

Cole Escola's historical romp Oh, Mary! and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' fiery family drama Purpose will lead all plays and play revivals with five nominations each. This is Escola's Broadway debut as playwright and performer, while Jacobs-Jenkins...

If ‘Now You See Me’ Franchise Is About Heists, They Could’ve Learn a Thing or Two From the ‘Oceans’ Movie Series
Image
Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, the third movie in its magic-fueled heist franchise. The trailer is packed with flashy illusions, fast cuts, and a new generation of performers. But three movies in, it’s worth asking whether the magic act has truly mastered the art of the con.

With its latest installment on the horizon, the movie series continues to dazzle with spectacle yet struggles to deliver the clever precision that defines the genre’s best. If Now You See Me is truly about heists, it might be time the franchise took a few notes from the Ocean’s movie series, where clever antics make the magic real.

How Much Would Logan Roy's Apartment In Succession Cost?
Image
Spoiler Warning: To those who have not watched "Succession" and read this article and complain about the massive spoilers, "I love you, but you are not serious people."

HBO's acclaimed series "Succession" immersed viewers in the lives of the Roy family, the owners of the media and entertainment conglomerate Waystar RoyCo. At the head of the company is the family patriarch, Logan Roy (Brian Cox), one of the wealthiest, most powerful, and yes, most evil characters in recent television history.

Given Logan Roy's unimaginable wealth and influence as a media mogul, his tastes in housing reflect his domineering nature. Whenever he is not busy stepping on heads at company headquarters or playing emotional and intellectual mind games on his children, he spends much of his time in his luxury penthouse. And not just any penthouse, but one located on Fifth Avenue in New York City, across from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Pedro Pascal, Allison Janney, Steve Carell, Kaitlyn Dever, and the great Emmy category mystery
Image
Studios and campaigners have until May 8 to finalize their 2025 Emmys submissions, and this year in particular, there seems to be more behind-the-scenes strategizing (and last-minute second-guessing) than ever before. After all, deciding whether a performer contends in lead vs. supporting vs. guest can mean the difference between winning a trophy — and being snubbed completely.

Two of the most talked-about Emmy category mysteries that still remain involve Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) and Allison Janney (The Diplomat).

Warning: this article contains massive spoilers for both of their shows, so read at your own risk!

The show: The Last of Us (Season 2)

The character: Joel Miller, an initial survivor of the zombie apocalypse

For the first time in 9 years, the Critics Choice Awards will take place before the Golden Globes
Image
The Golden Globes are no longer the first major awards show of the calendar year.

The Critics Choice Association has revealed that its 31st annual event will take place Jan. 4, 2026. This announcement comes one day after the Golden Globes picked the following Sunday, Jan. 11, as its awards date. Fun fact: the last time the Critics Choice Awards aired before the Golden Globes was nine years ago, when the 22nd Cca aired Dec. 11, 2016, and the 74th Globes aired Jan. 8, 2017 — both gave La La Land a Best Picture prize.

The Cca's television nominations will be announced Dec. 4, and the film nominations Dec. 5. A host for the 2026 ceremony has yet to be named; Chelsea Handler hosted last time.

Returning to the E! network for the second consecutive year, the telecast will also air live on USA Network beginning at 7 p.m. Et/Pt. Once again, the kudos will be held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.

'Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' Casts Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee
Image
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, an upcoming prequel film revolving around Haymitch Abernathy, continues to round out its star-studded cast with one of the most exciting additions yet. Plutarch Heavensbee, previously portrayed by the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman, will be appearing in the new adaptation based on the best-selling book from franchise author Suzanne Collins. Longtime franchise director Francis Lawrence is set to helm Sunrise on the Reaping based on a screenplay written by Billy Ray.

According to Deadline, Jesse Plemons has joined Sunrise on the Reaping as Plutarch Heavensbee, the future leader of the rebellion. After being rumored to play the villain in Shawn Levy's Star Wars movie, Plemons finds his next big franchise role in the upcoming Hunger Games prequel. The acclaimed actor will have big shoes to fill after Hoffman made the role his own, but Plemons was certainly the longtime favorite to...

‘Death Becomes Her’ leads 2025 Outer Critics Circle Awards nominations with 12; Kit Connor receives bid over George Clooney
Image
Nominations for the 2025 Outer Critics Circle Awards were announced Friday by Oh, Mary! stars Cole Escola and Conrad Ricamora. Winners for these kudos, which honor Broadway and off-Broadway productions, will be announced on May 12.

The musical Death Becomes Her dominated the pack with 12 nominations, more than any other show, followed by Maybe Happy Ending with nine citations. Stranger Things: The First Shadow led in the play categories with seven bids, followed by The Hills of California with six.

While there are no Tony Awards nominators within the ranks of the Outer Critics Circle, the list of nominations nevertheless provides important insight into what performances are registering with the industry during awards season. A major difference is that the Outer Critics Circle employs gender-neutral categories but still capped at five slots. So, the actors named here have muscled their way past a large field of competitors in an impressive showing of awards strength.

Palm Springs Film Festival Shifts 2026 Awards Event Date

Looks like awards circuit habitués will have a little bit longer to recover over the winter holidays this season.

The Palm Springs Film Festival said Thursday that the date of its awards event is being moved back one day to Saturday, January 3. It had been scheduled for Friday, January 2.

The Palm Springs International Film Awards are usually the first big, awards season event to take place after New Year’s. Given the fact that AMPAS just revealed a new procedural rule indicating that voters must now watch all nominated films in each category in order to be eligible to vote in the final round, an extra day to watch screeners or attend a screening or just plain rest up is welcome.

Nearly all honorees at the Palm Springs International Film Awards went on to receive Oscar nominations, and four went on to win in their categories including Adrien Brody, Kieran Culkin,...

No, Pedro Pascal cannot compete in guest for ‘The Last of Us’ — the new Emmy guest rule explained
Image
After Joel's death in Sunday's episode of The Last of Us, Pedro Pascal's Emmy category placement remains up in the air for now, but there is one category he most definitely will not be submitted in: Best Drama Guest Actor.

You might have missed it, but the TV Academy modified eligibility in the guest categories in January, one of its 2025 rule changes. The general guest eligibility rule remains unchanged: Performers can submit in guest if they appear in less than 50 percent of a show's season. The new addendum states that a performer who has been nominated or has won in a lead or supporting category is not eligible to submit in a guest category for playing the same role on the same show in subsequent years; they can only submit in lead or supporting.

The tweak is to prevent easy nominations and wins and name-checking, which is common in the guest races.

2025 Drama League Awards nominations: 51 actors up for Distinguished Performance, ‘The Hills of California’ snubbed
Image
Nominations for the 2025 Drama League Awards were announced Tuesday by current Broadway stars Sarah Hyland (The Great Gatsby) and Orville Peck (Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club). Winners will be announced May 19 at a ceremony at the Ziegfeld Ballroom.

The Drama League Awards honor both Broadway and off-Broadway productions and stand out for their catch-all acting category, the Distinguished Performance Award. An actor can only win it once in their career. After they have won, they can never be nominated again. This year, 51 performers are nominated. There is no crossover between members who vote on the Drama League Awards and the Tonys, but the nominations can nevertheless be revealing as to which performances and productions break through, or not, with this group’s expanded categories.

One of the most shocking results of the nominations is the complete omission of The Hills of California. The Jez Butterworth play is one of...
