Her father Larry Massoli is a retired police officer. Her late mother Judith Brooke Massoli (née Hunt) was a showgirl. Both worked in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Her mother (born April 22, 1941) was diagnosed with melanoma and died shortly afterwards on February 20, 1976. Before her illness, she had been a showgirl at the Tropicana and the Folies Bergère in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After deciding to change her last name, Jenna came across Jameson in the phone book and settled once her brother approved saying "I'm drinking Jameson right now.".

In November 2004, when Jenna was pregnant with her first child by her second husband, Justin Sterling, she was diagnosed with skin cancer, from which her mother died. Despite the successful operation to remove a tumor, Jameson suffered a miscarriage. Later, she was unable to get pregnant again even with IVF. On the basis of this, and other problems, she and her husband were separated in August 2006 and divorced in June 2007.
On May 25, 2012, Jenna was arrested in Westminister, California and charged with three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, driving with a blood-alcohol level over the state legal limit, and driving on a suspended license after her Range Rover struck a light pole. She initially pled not guilty to the charges, but later changed her plea to guilty. She was sentenced to three years of informal probation, ordered to pay $340 in fines, and participate in a victim impact panel from Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The charge for driving without a valid license was dismissed.
