At long last, Eddie Murphy is set to reprise his role as street-smart cop Axel Foley in the fourth instalment of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, which is set to hit Netflix this summer. But, it isn’t easy being a middle aged action star. It’s been nearly thirty years since we last saw Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, and in a recent interview with People Magazine he admitted that the shoot was a “rough one”.“I did Axel Foley when I was in my 20s. I am not in my 20s anymore,” he said. At any rate, Murphy won’t be the only aged actor from the original to show up, with many of the classic Beverly Hills Cop cast members are set to join him in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. Here’s everything we know about Beverly Hills Cop 4!

Netflix kicked off February with news of the streaming service’s 2024 film slate.
The steamer, which landed 18 Oscar nominations this year – including seven for Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” – will debut numerous populist films in 2024, including new projects from Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, Jenifer Lopez, Millie Bobby Brown, Eddie Murphy, and more.
Well-known directors with movies set to premiere on Netflix this year include Tyler Perry (two titles), McG, Richard Linklater, and Lee Daniels. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will also make his directorial debut with “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story.”
On the awards front, while it’s too early to tell which projects might pop – and what movies Netflix might acquire for release this year, similarly to how the studio purchased Todd Haynes’ “May December” at the Cannes Film Festival last year – titles to flag include “The Piano Lesson” from Malcolm Washington with Samuel L. Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley adventures are coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, as Beverly Hills Cop III gets announced for the format.
2024 is the year that the long-mooted fourth film in the Beverly Hills Cop series finally happens, with Netflix bringing Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F to our screens later this year.
It’s the first time that Eddie Murphy has taken on the lead role since 1994’s ill-fated Beverly Hills Cop III, a film that brought the saga to a shuddering stop when it stumbled at the box office. But still: there’s a chance to reassess that third film now, as Paramount is releasing it on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format.
In fact, it’s doing two things. Beverly Hills Cop III will be coming to 4K disc on February 19th in the UK. And it’s accompanying that with a boxset that features Beverly Hills Cop...

Eddie Murphy is returning to the Beverly Hills Cop universe and reprising his role of Axel Foley in a fourth installment of the franchise.
Ahead of the 40th anniversary of the release of the 1984 film, Murphy returns to play Foley and is opening up about the difficulties of getting back into the action sequences.
“It was a hard one,” Murphy told People in an interview. “I did Axel Foley when I was in my 20s. I am not in my 20s anymore. It was an action movie. So it was a rough one. But we got through it.”
The action comedy directed by Martin Brest centers on Axel Foley, a Detroit detective who travels to Beverly Hills, California to solve the murder of his best friend.

Once upon a time, Hollywood studios made original movies. Lots of them. Granted, "original" is a relative term when we're talking about this industry. Studios have always hedged their bets by relying on popular genres or recycling tried-and-true formulas. When a film went into production, moguls and executives were hoping for a healthy return on their investment, while stars generally tried their damnedest not to alienate their fans while avoiding the perils of typecasting. Once the film wrapped, it was on to the next one — and the next one was rarely a sequel.
This business model changed drastically in the 1970s when films like "The Godfather," "The Exorcist" and "Love Story" became wildly profitable cultural phenomena. When the studios realized people were lining up to see these movies again and again like they were amusement park rides, they reasoned that the safest course of action would be to continue the...

1984 was a big year for movies at the box office. Amongst the likes of The Terminator, Gremlins, and Romancing the Stone, Beverly Hills Cop hit theaters and became an iconic movie. The action comedy follows Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy), a Detroit police officer who travels to Beverly Hills to track down the men who murdered his friend. Along the way, he forms a friendship with two policemen, Taggart and Rosewood (John Ashton and Judge Reinhold). However, due to his boisterous, mischievous nature, not everyone in Beverly Hills is so welcoming to his presence. Beverly Hills Cop was a smash...

Two Saturday Night Live legends, Pete Davidson and Eddie Murphy, are joining forces for The Pickup, an upcoming comedy directed by Tim Story. The project hails from Amazon MGM Studios, with plot details remaining a mystery. Smoke on the street says The Pickup is a heist comedy with a script by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows.
In addition to his directorial duties, Story produces through his The Story Company banner, with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox, and Murphy and Charisse Hewitt-Webster via Eddie Murphy Productions. The Story Company’s Vicky Mara Story, Davis Entertainment’s Jeremy Stein, and Kevin Burrows, Ross Fanger, and Matt Mider executive produce.
When he’s not the subject of paparazzi fodder or changing dating partners like fresh pairs of underwear, Davidson appears in films like Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Fast X, Dumb Money, and Good Burger 2. He recently completed his role for The Home.

When Nicolas Cage first started out, having made his big screen debut in 1982’s Fast Times at Ridgemont High, he went credited as Nicolas Coppola, his given name. As the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola, Nicolas Cage could use that name to hit the fast track to Hollywood fame…and the cast of Fast Times never let him live it down.
In a new book called “How Coppola Became Cage”, author Zach Schonfeld details that exact evolution of Nicolas Cage, beginning with Fast Times at Ridgemont High. But it wasn’t Sean Penn or Judge Reinhold or even Phoebe Cates who hazed Cage – still a teenager – but rather Eric Stoltz, whose character doesn’t even have a name. As Stoltz put it, Cage took some teasing because of his occasional name-dropping. “Nick was one of the younger ones…He was big for his age, and he was quite bold and animated.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High is one of the most influential movies of the eighties. It was the first classic teen comedy of the decade, but unlike many other teen-focused flicks, it aspired to be a realistic depiction of what teens go through. In fact, the movie was based on a book by a young Cameron Crowe (who adapted the screenplay) who went undercover as a teen and wrote about his experiences. The movie tackled teen sex, pregnancy, abortion and drugs without any of the doom and gloom the topic would have been presented with had it been made by just about anyone else at the time.

Eddie Murphy is in negotiations to star in Pink Panther, a new movie based on the beloved mascot for Owens Corning Fiberglass Insulation.
Should the deal close, Eddie Murphy would star in Pink Panther as Inspector Clouseau. The original movie starred Peter Sellers as Clouseau as he tracks down a notorious jewel thief known as “The Phantom” before he is able to steal a priceless diamond known as “The Pink Panther”. The opening credits included the cartoon panther that audiences have come to associate with the franchise, and sources told THR that this new project will attempt to meld both worlds. The live-action/CG hybrid movie is said to see “the Pink Panther’s live-action crew break him out of his animated prison to do a heist job.“

The Cheerleaders starred Stephanie Fondue, Denise Dillaway and Jovita Bush in a playful film about Amorosa High School cheerleaders who have sex with the opposing team’s football players the night before a big game to sap them of their strength.
The X-rated movie — eventually recut to an R rating — was made for 120,000, saw a great return on its investment, was name-checked in a John Grisham novel and spawned quick features including The Swinging Cheerleaders (1974), directed by Jack Hill, and Revenge of the Cheerleaders (1976), helmed by Richard Lerner, a co-writer and producer on Glickler’s movie.

Casting director and producer Don Phillips, who helped launch the careers of such actors as Sean Penn, Matthew McConaughey and Mary Steenburgen, passed away on Thanksgiving Day from natural causes. He would have turned 81 on Dec. 21.
Phillips received his first break when he landed an entry-level job in the casting department of filmmaker Otto Preminger’s 1971 movie Such Good Friends. Impressed by Phillips, Preminger took an ad in Variety and Backstage to praise the novice’s work on the film.
The acknowledgement led to Phillips getting hired to do extras casting on Sidney Lumet’s Serpico starring Al Pacino with his job subsequently expanding to casting the entire film. Lumet then tapped him as casting director on his next film, Dog Day Afternoon, also starring Pacino. Phillips is credited with holding out for actor John Cazale to be cast opposite Pacino as Sal.

“Learn it. Know it. Live it!” The best-remembered teen comedy of the ’80s is also an insightful and unabashed look at real attitudes, behaviors and motivations of young people learning to deal with adult issues. Beyond the hilarious Sean Penn and the luscious Phoebe Cates lies a talent squad of notables and stars-to-be like Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold and Robert Romanus, with appearances by Amanda Wyss, Forest Whitaker, Eric Stoltz, Nicolas Coppola and Anthony Edwards. The stunning feature directing debut of Amy Heckerling, from Cameron Crowe’s undercover high school exposé, should be acknowledged as a modern classic.

With most folks staying home for New Year’s Eve this year because of the ongoing pandemic, so many more eyes than usual were on the Nye TV specials. And CNN capitalized on the moment, dominating the social media discourse by having Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen get drunk on air.
There weren’t any crowds in Times Square this year, but otherwise, these New Year’s Eve specials proceeded as usual. It created a strange mood for the evening, and Cooper and Cohen very effectively tapped into the vibe of the country by throwing back tequila shots on TV, while everyone at home did the same.
Cooper and Cohen started the party at 8 p.m. Et, with their first shots of the night. And, well, it seemed like Anderson probably could have used a chaser.

Jennifer Aniston and ex-husband Brad Pitt's recent virtual reunion wasn't only heartwarming, it was inspiring. So much so that Bachelor Nation couple Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick decided to dress up as them, exactly as they appeared onscreen separately, and reenact their sweet interaction for Halloween. Aniston and Pitt had taken part in a virtual table read of the '80s cult film Fast Times at Ridgemont High in September to help benefit cast member Sean Penn's Core nonprofit and Reform Alliance. The former couple, who read Phoebe Cates and Judge Reinhold's roles, melted fans' hearts with their banter. "Hi, Aniston," Pitt...

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston Reunite for ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’ Virtual Table Read (Video)
Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston reunited for a virtual table read of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” on Thursday, a reading of the classic comedy for charity in order to support those suffering from the coronavirus.
The Internet was swooning at the reunion of the exes (who married in 2000 and divorced in 2005), including when they first greeted each other at the very top of the broadcast, and later as Aniston figuratively caught Pitt with his pants down as they read through the famous pool house, daydream scene that featured Phoebe Cates.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston reunited on-screen again, and things got a little steamy between the former couple.
The pair who got divorced back in 2005, took part in a virtual table reading of 1982 teen drama Fast Times at Ridgemont High on Thursday night.
The former Hollywood couple, who were married for five years from 2000 – recreated a raunchy scene between Phoebe Cates and Judge Reinhold from the 1982 film.
Brad Pitt, who came armed with props including a pirate hat, nurse’s cap and more, played the character of Brad Hamilton, - originally played by Judge Reinhold.
Meanshile, Jennifer Aniston who also came in costume, wearing Linda Barrett’s red string bikini over a white top, essayed the role of Linda, Hamilton's love interest.
In a steamy scene, Brad Pitt's character heads into the bathroom, while the narrator, played by Morgan Freeman, says: "Brad is j**king off."

The 1982 world of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” came to life Thursday night in a fundraising table read that included Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Jimmy Kimmel, John Legend, Ray Liotta, Julia Roberts, Shia Labeouf, Morgan Freeman and Henry Golding.
The hour-long streaming event took place on the Facebook page for Penn’s nonprofit Core (Community Organized Relief Effort) and LiveXLive as well as criminal justice reform group Reform Alliance. Dane Cook hosted and Freeman narrated the unrehearsed read, which came off with no noticeable fumbles in a dozen key scenes from the coming-of-age dramedy.
Much of the attention paid to the starry event — originally scheduled for a month ago but delayed by “technical difficulties” — focused on Pitt and Aniston performing together, 15 years after their divorce. Pitt voiced Brad Hamilton, played by Judge Reinhold in the film, and Aniston played Phoebe Cates’ Linda Barrett character. The duo re-enacted the movie’s deeply embarrassing swimsuit sequence.

Well people we are kicking off the Appreciation of our Lord and Saviour Nicolas Cage proper with his first official big screen debut in this Amy Heckerling directed, Cameron Crowe biographical tale Fast Times at Ridgemont High. A movie that admittedly I have never actually seen but heard many a great thing about this 80s coming of age comedy that launched many a career including the figurehead of our Appreciaton Society.

When viewers are first introduced to Sister Night — the heroic moniker chosen by Regina King’s “Watchmen” character, Angela Abar — she drives to her secret hideout, dons her leather uniform, and speeds to a local trailer park. As the music pulses and her long coat swirls in the wind, Sister Night kicks in a door, punches the napping Tulsa citizen square in the face, and drags the guy into her trunk, all without a warrant or even a warning.
Why?
“I’ve got a nose for white supremacy,” she tells her boss, Chief Crawford (Don Johnson). “And he smells like bleach.”
Shortly thereafter, wouldn’t you know it, Sister Night is proven right. The guy is working for the white supremacist group who just shot one of her fellow officers. When she looks at her boss, she doesn’t need to say much. Just one word: “Bleach.”

The relationship between Eddie Murphy and Netflix would appear to be paying off. Netflix has come to a one-time license deal with Paramount Pictures which sees the streaming giant produce ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’.
Back at the beginning of October Murphy confirmed that once Coming to America 2 is done and dusted, the new instalment in the Beverly Hills franchise would be his next project before he heads back to stand-up comedy.
“Yeah, that [BHC4] is what we’re doing after ‘Coming to America 2′. We’re doing ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ and then the plan is to get back on stage and do stand-up. That’s what I’ll be doing mostly is stand-up. These movies and ‘Saturday Night Live’ it’s kind of like…I’m looking at it as a bookend. If I decided I wanted to stay on the couch forever, I ended it on a funny note.”

These aren’t Gremlins from the Kremlin, but homegrown domestic terrorist monsters, and Dante contrasts their killer antics with a sentimental parody of small town America. No CGI … You will believe that the animatronic rascals can multiply like rabbits, break dance, and run amuck!

On July 15, 2019, Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker will celebrate his 58th birthday. The actor has had a long and celebrated acting career though initially he aspired to be an opera singer. He enrolled at the University of Southern California to study opera but then changed his major to acting and graduated from the school with a Bfa in Drama.
While still enrolled in college, Whitaker began acting professionally. His first film role came in a movie called “Tag: The Assassination Game,” which starred Robert Carradine and Linda Hamilton. That same year he would get a small role in a movie about high school students that would become a classic. He joined a cast of unknown actors including Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold and Phoebe Cates in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” The film was a bit of a sleeper hit in 1982 but became a classic through repeated showings on cable TV.

From ‘Sixteen Candles’ to ‘Eighth Grade': 17 Cringeworthy Moments From Coming of Age Movies (Photos)
Bo Burnham’s debut feature film “Eighth Grade” is earning acclaim for its realistic and touching portrayal of growing up today. Of course, Burnham’s movie builds on a long legacy of movies that deal with the awkwardness of coming of age, from John Hughes classics like “The Breakfast Club” and “Sixteen Candles” to more recent successes like “Lady Bird” and “Call Me By Your Name.” Take a look at some of the most cringeworthy moments from these movies below.
The Graduate (1967)
In this classic coming-of-age story from Mike Nichols, Benjamin Braddock (breakout star Dustin Huffman) has a lot of cringeworthy moments with Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft). In one scene, he confronts his soon-to-be lover about her strange behavior and then delivers the famous line: “Mrs. Robinson, you’re trying to seduce me… aren’t you?”

In this edition of Canon Of Film, we take a look back at Amy Heckerling‘s high school coming-of-age-classic, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. For the story behind the genesis of the Canon, you can click here.
Fast Times At Ridgemont High (1982)
Director: Amy Heckerling
Screenplay: Cameron Crowe based on his book
I think the best high school movies are not the ones that show the over-the-top journeys of a few drunk, stoned, and/or sex-crazed low-life students going to have the defining life-changing moments with their best friend’s slutty mom or whatever, insignifcant pitiful high school goal they aim for.… but instead the better films are the ones that are more slice of life films, the ones that show just how nieve and stupid we were when we younger and how that influenced but didn’t necessarily defined our life. If you ask Freud, we have already had...

For my money, Martin Brest's Beverly Hills Cop was one of the best action comedies to come out of the 1980s. Eddie Murphy was in his prime, Judge Reinhold and John Ashton made for the perfect bumbling officer duo and Lisa Eilbacher delivered a smart and sexy performance as Jenny Summers in the film. It's a classic piece of cinema that I make a point of watching at least once a year, if not more.... Read More...
