Damien Thorn is the antichrist, and the trilogy that tells his unholy tale remains popular almost fifty years later. Indeed, while putting together this Omen movie ranked list and revisiting the original franchise, I was surprised at how well the old movies held up. Omen fans will be happy that the series has been restarted in a pretty interesting way this weekend, with The First Omen a surprisingly excellent prequel to the original trilogy (check out our interviews with the director and cast here), even if it takes one large liberty involving Damien’s birth that some fans may have an issue with. So, how do the Omen films rank against each other? Let’s take a look, but remember that the Fox TV movie, Omen IV: The Awakening, is not included, as I’m sticking with feature films.
The Omen (2006):
There’s honestly no reason for this movie to exist.

The Omen was a blessed success upon its release, earning a spot among the top 10 highest-grossing films of 1976. One of those ticket buyers was Wes Craven, who had already made his debut with The Last House on the Left and was gearing up for his sophomore film, The Hills Have Eyes.
“I remember thinking, ‘Big studio, won’t have a cutting edge to it. Gregory Peck, how can he be scary? I like him, but.’ And it was. I was totally amazed,” the master of horror recalled in a 2006 DVD special feature in which he waxes poetic about The Omen for some 20 minutes.
“I think [Richard] Donner is just one of our primo filmmakers.” Craven had been watching the future Superman and The Goonies director’s work since his early days helming episodes of classic TV shows like The Twilight Zone and Gilligan’s Island. “Every so often, he just knocks something...

New Delhi, March 30 (Ians) Gary Mehigan, who was behind the humongous success of ‘MasterChef Australia’, has become a registered Indophile by the look of it.
Somewhat like the Australian (and also Delhi Capitals) cricket star David Warner, who almost became the face of Tollywood during his stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mehigan knows more about India than any homegrown desi would on a good day.
Not surprising, considering that he has been here 12 times in 18 months, travelling across the country from the highlands of Munnar in Kerala to Ladakh, soaking in the Hemis Festival, to Nagaland, chilling at Hornbill. Sampling ‘langarwali dal’ and roti at Anandpur Sahib one day or, on another, riding a truck in Kolkata carrying an idol of Goddess Durga being taken for immersion to the Hooghly, shooting for Nat Geo’s ‘India Mega Festivals’ series.
And of course, if you’re a chef who spends more time...

Australian cricketer David Warner is definitely a big fan of star Allu Arjun, whom he referred to as a legend on his latest post on social media. Warner on Friday took to Instagram and shared the picture of Allu Arjun posing next to his wax figure at the Madame Tussauds in Dubai.
Sharing the picture, the Aussie star captioned the image: “How good is this legend @alluarjunonline congrats #pushpa.”
This is not the first time that the Australian batter Warner has shown his love towards Allu Arjun.
During the Australia vs Pakistan match at the Icc Men’s World Cup in 2023, Warner celebrated his century by performing the iconic ‘thaggedele’ step from ‘Pushpa: The Rise’.
He had also danced on the number ‘Srivalli’, originally picturised on Rashmika Mandanna and Allu Arjun.
Warner had also shared a video of his daughters dancing to another song ‘Saami’ from the film.

If you’ve been keeping up with The Test of Time, you have probably learned what the rules are in terms of what we tackle. Those rules, of course, are that there are no rules whatsoever and we cover whatever sounds good or we think would be an interesting topic. In the Mouth of Madness (watch it Here) came out in Italy in late 1994 and that means, gulp, that movie is now 30 years old. It came during an interesting time in the master of horrors career when he was running flop after flop and being disappointed by studios interference and stars that weren’t willing to be true collaborators. It’s the ending of a loose trilogy and in some people’s estimation his last great film. Is In the Mouth of Madness a tale that stands the Test of Time, or should it be put in the bargain bin...

Film editor who was nominated for an Oscar for Deliverance and sought to promote his father Jb Priestley’s writing
Tom Priestley, who has died aged 91, knew early on that he wanted a career in the arts. “But my father had covered so much territory, there wasn’t much left,” he said. He was the sixth child and only son of the playwright and novelist Jb Priestley.
The discipline he eventually chose, and excelled at, was film editing. He won a Bafta for Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment (1966), Karel Reisz’s dark comedy about conformity and rebellion, starring David Warner and Vanessa Redgrave. He was also nominated for an Oscar for John Boorman’s thriller Deliverance (1972), with Burt Reynolds and Jon Voight. It was adapted by James Dickey from his own novel about four friends who are terrorised by Appalachian locals while on a canoeing trip.

The actress died of natural causes at her home in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office told The Hollywood Reporter Saturday.
Born Cynthia Ann Cichorski on Sept. 29, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, Morgan was the first in her family to attend college, attending Northern Illinois University to study communications. After working in local news and radio for some time, she eventually moved to Los Angeles in 1978.
The following year, she appeared in commercials for Irish Spring, becoming known as the Irish Spring girl. During that time, she was also attending acting classes and workshops.
She scored her first film role in the 1979 movie Up Yours. The following year, she took on the role of Lacey Underall in the sports-comedy Caddyshack, starring alongside Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray,...

In Charles de Lauzirika's masterful documentary "Wreckage and Rage: Making Alien 3," producer David Giler laments that the David Fincher-directed sequel was doomed to disappoint because the studio was more focused on making a release date than a movie. Though I think they wound up with a boldly dour film that is every bit as singular as the movies that preceded it, his point is well taken. Setting down rails before you ride a train into town is not a bad idea. But the only thing Hollywood studios hate more than originality is learning from their mistakes.
Which brings us to 20th Century Fox's 2006 remake of "The Omen."
Amusingly, the studio that courted disaster with "Alien 3" 14 years prior opted to resuscitate their dead and decaying "The Omen" franchise because of a release date. 6/6/06 was only ever going to happen once, and, so the reasoning went, you'd be leaving...

Something evil is afoot in the hallowed halls of the church in the new trailer for The First Omen, the upcoming prequel to the supernatural horror classic, The Omen.
The film stars Nell Tiger Free as Margaret, a young woman who travels from America to Rome, prepared to dedicate her life to serving God and the church. Those ambitions, however, are curtailed when Margaret stumbles into a deep-seated conspiracy to bring about the birth of the antichrist.

"Star Trek: The Next Generation" was a pretty unusual job for classically trained theater performer Patrick Stewart, but it was one that he took very seriously from the beginning. By the time he got around to season 6 and had really gotten to know and love the world of "Star Trek," he took his performance even more seriously, but there was one season 6 episode that required even more dedication and some pretty dark research. In the second part of the two-part episode "Chain of Command," Picard is taken captive by the Cardassians and is tortured by Gul Madred (David Warner). Stewart was already pretty focused on the episode because of his lifelong appreciation for Warner's work, but as a member of Amnesty International for years before coming to "Star Trek," he was even more concerned about making sure the torture aspects of the episode were accurate and respectful to torture survivors.

Based on the novel by Anthony Burgess, Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film "A Clockwork Orange" is set in the not-too-distant future when roving British teenage gangs have mutated into bizarre, ultra-violent, morals-free hedonists who commit crimes to their hearts' content. The protagonist is Alex DeLarge (Malcolm McDowell) a 15-year-old punk who drinks drug-laced milk before taking to the street with his gang of droogs to savagely and gleefully beat and assault anyone who passes into their field of vision. Alex is eventually arrested and put into prison where the government subjects him to bizarre new rehabilitation techniques in an attempt to turn his mind away from violence.
Throughout, Alex is depicted as clearly beyond redemption. He has no compassion and will never have compassion. When he reads about Jesus Christ being crucified, he imagines himself to be the Roman soldier whipping him. The government's brainwashing techniques only instill in him a...

The Story: H.G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell) does the impossible – after writing about a time machine he actually builds one. Too bad then that one of his dearest friends is secretly Jack the Ripper (David Warner) and uses the machine to escape justice by going into the future – 1979 San Francisco to be exact. Left with no choice and believing that he’s unleashed a monster upon a utopia (ha!), Wells pursues him through time, but winds up being a lot more out of his element than his nemesis.
The Players: Starring Malcolm McDowell, David Warner & Mary Steenburgen. Written and directed by Nicholas Meyer.
Oh, I love that part. I love that film, actually. Well of course, I was in love during the filmmaking—how could you not love the damn film? And I’ve always loved San Francisco since. – Malcolm McDowell – Random Roles

Prior to his job playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," actor Patrick Stewart wasn't terribly well-known in the United States. One might have recognized him for his supporting roles in high-profile genre films like John Boorman's "Excalibur," David Lynch's "Dune," or Tobe Hooper's "Lifeforce," but the vast bulk of his career up to that point was on the British stage, or throughout the vast network of BBC television. Starting in 1966, Stewart began starring in productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company, appearing as the Player King in "Hamlet" (opposite David Warner) and as the Dauphin in "Henry V." His status as a go-to player of well-known American fantasy characters wouldn't begin in earnest until 1987.

In the sixth season of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," in a two-part episode called "Chain of Command", Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) was released from his command of the U.S.S. Enterprise so that he may engage in a top-secret mission to a planet called Celtris III. His mission was to infiltrate a secret underground facility and locate a massively dangerous biological weapon that the Cardassians were said to be developing. The mission, however, was based on tainted intelligence, and there was no weapon. Instead, Picard is captured by a sadistic and terrifying Cardassian general named Madred (David Warner) who aims to torture Picard.
Madred didn't need information from Picard, however. The aim of Madred's cool and calculated infliction of pain seemed to be to break Picard's will, to merely prove that a stalwart and loyal officer could be snapped and conditioned. In a particularly vicious game, Madred illuminates...

Durban, Aug 31 (Ians) Australia have handed big-hitting finisher Tim David a maiden Odi call-up for the upcoming series against South Africa, giving him the chance to make a last-minute entry into a World Cup squad for the second time in as many years.
David smashed 64 off just 28 balls to play a pivotal role in Australia’s 111-run win over South Africa in the T20I series opener. His addition in the Odi squad boosts the Australian middle-order missing Steve Smith (wrist injury), and Glenn Maxwell (ankle injury and impending the birth of his first child).
“Tim is already here for the T20 series which offers an opportunity to see how his game can translate to the one-day format. He will provide an extra option for us in that power role at the back end of an innings,” said selector Tony Dodemaide

Sydney (Australia), Aug 29 (Ians) The Ashes 2023 left many controversial moments in cricket, among the most talked about one was Jonny Bairstow’s run-out by Alex Carey, as he walked out of the crease prematurely after avoiding a short-pitched delivery.
The run-out left the cricketing world in shock, as both the team’s ex-cricketers got involved in the banter. Some justified the run-out, whereas others took it as a spirit of game moment.
English skipper went on to say, “I wouldn’t want to win a game in that manner.”
In a video posted by 7Cricket on X, previously Twitter, Marnus Labuschagne relieved the moment and revealed David Warner’s reaction when Bairstow questioned whether the Australian team was happy with the outcome.
“I was in the lunchroom! Jonny was fuming. Sky crew played the dismissal on repeat, and everyone was watching it. Seeing us all engrossed, he asked if we were happy with it.

Hobart, Aug 26 (Ians) Former Australia Test skipper Tim Paine revealed the team management is considering to move David Warner from his usual opening position to down the order ahead of Odi World Cup, happening in India from October 5 to November 19.
Warner has gone past the half-century mark in seven of his last 16 Odi innings. In Australia’s last Odi against India at Chennai, they retained the attacking opening combination of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head.
Warner, who missed first two ODIs due to recovery from an elbow injury which ended his time in Border-Gavaskar Trophy early, came out to at number four, in order to deal with India’s left-arm spinners in Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, and made 23 off 31 balls.
“Now that’s something I have heard. It’s going to be imperative to get off to really fast starts and right now, Travis Head and Mitch Marsh...

Sydney, Aug 24 (Ians) Australia’s Test skipper Pat Cummins believes that the after-effect of the stumping of England wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow effected by Alex Carey during the Lord’s Test in the 2023 Ashes series made him like the fact that a lot of people got involved with the sport.
On day five’s play in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s, Bairstow was on 10 in the 52nd over when he ducked under a bouncer from Cameron Green and inadvertently walked out of his crease.
Carey immediately directed an underarm throw after catching the delivery, and jumped in joy after firing his throw at the stumps. On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Gaffaney sent the decision upstairs, where TV umpire Marais Erasmus confirmed Bairstow’s dismissal.
The dismissal drew a furious reaction from the fans, who started to chant “same old Aussies, always cheating”, and booed the visitors for the rest of the day,...

Brisbane, Aug 19 (Ians) Australia’s veteran opener Usman Khawaja said he will aim to continue playing Test cricket for a long time if he continues to tick three crucial boxes with the side. Khawaja scored 496 runs in the recently-concluded Ashes 2023, being the highest run-scorer of the series, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
The next Ashes series will be held in Australia in 2025-26. “In 2025…one series at a time I go with. You can get ahead of yourself and look to that time (in 2025) and think, ‘I can probably get there’, but I don’t want to (do that).”
“I like playing one summer at a time and seeing how the body is going, how the mind is going and whether I am enjoying it. It is those three things. I am ticking those three boxes at the moment so I will keep playing,” Khawaja was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Melbourne, Aug 18 (Ians) Australia’s premier batter Steve Smith and left-arm pace spearhead Mitchell Starc have been ruled out of the white-ball tour of South Africa due to injuries to the wrist and groin, respectively.
A report in cricket.com.au said despite the duo missing the South Africa tour, they are expected to be fully fit for the Men’s Odi World Cup in India from October 5 to November 19. As a result, Mitchell Marsh will be taking over as Australia’s captain for both white-ball formats in South Africa.
Starc’s absence means uncapped left-arm quick Spencer Johnson will remain on for the Odi leg of the tour after being previously named in the T20I squad. Smith’s absence means Marnus Labuschagne is added to the Odi squad, with Ashton Turner called in as his replacement in the T20I squad.

Melbourne, Aug 15 (Ians) Australia captain Pat Cummins has given every indication he will be fit for this year’s Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup by declaring his injured wrist is recovering well and he is on track to return prior to the six-week tournament in India.
Cummins fractured his wrist while batting during the final Ashes Test against England at The Oval last month and was initially diagnosed to be sidelined for up to six weeks ahead of Australia’s first game at the World Cup against hosts India on October 8.
But Cummins has allayed any fears that he will be battling to prove his fitness prior to that clash, with the fast bowler aiming to travel to South Africa next month to join up with his teammates during their five-match series against the Proteas and then return to playing during the three-game series against India at the end of September.

Sydney, Aug 5 (Ians) Australia’s veteran spinner Nathan Lyon said he still doesn’t value England’s Bazball style of playing and its sustainability at the Test cricket level, citing the two matches he played against them before a calf injury ended his time in the Ashes, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
“I know everyone keeps talking about BazBall, to be honest, I didn’t really see BazBall… throughout my two Tests against them. I’m 2-0 in my Tests against BazBall… I look at the Australian cricket team and the batters we’ve had, David Warner for example… I’ve seen him score hundreds in a session… and that’s off playing an attacking brand of cricket.”

Michael Boyd, who revived the fortunes of the Royal Shakespeare Company as its artistic director, died today of cancer, his family announced. He was 68.
Boyd replaced RSC predecessor Adrian Noble in 2003, departing nine years later. In 2012, he was knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honors for services to drama. Many felt that he was being rewarded for keeping the RSC intact.
Noble came under attack from all quarters for shifting the company from its London base and for revealing plans to have the RSC theater in Stratford-upon-Avon demolished.
During his tenure, however, Boyd led the organization’s successful transformation of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford, a $179.3 million project that won a 2011 Royal Institute of British Architects award and was shortlisted for the Riba Stirling Prize.

Ashes 2023: Stuart Broad gets winning send-off as England beat Australia by 49 runs; draw series 2-2
London, July 31 (Ians) Veteran fast-bowler Stuart Broad got his perfect fairytale ending to a glorious cricketing career by picking the last two wickets as England beat Australia by 49 runs in the fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval on Monday to level an enthralling series 2-2.
Resuming from 135 for no loss, Australia were going great guns with all ten wickets in hand, before a ball change in the 37th over took their top three batters out. Steve Smith and Travis Head led Australia’s recovery before the rain came in.
After the two-hour rain break ended, Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali blew Australia away as four wickets fell for only 11 runs. Todd Murphy and Alex Carey frustrated England for a brief period as Australia went from 264 for three to 294 for 8.

London, July 31 (Ians) Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has called for the ball change which occurred during Australia’s second innings in the ongoing fifth Ashes Test at The Oval to be investigated, a move which he termed as a ‘huge blunder’.
After Mark Wood hit Usman Khawaja on the helmet with a bouncer on the first delivery of the 37th over, umpires Joel Wilson and Kumar Dharmasena changed the ball, citing that it had gone out of shape.
But the replacement ball looked newer than the previous ball, as Khawaja, David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne were dismissed in quick succession in Australia’s chase of 384.
“The biggest concern I have is the big discrepancy in the condition of the ball that was chosen to replace the one (that had gone out of shape). There’s no way in the world you can even look at those two balls there...

London, July 31 (Ians) Former England captain Nasser Hussain has stated that the hosts are “slight favourites” to win the fifth and decisive Ashes 2023 Test against Australia as the pitch will offer a turn on Day 5 at The Oval which will aid Ben Stokes’ side to level the series 2-2.
The lashing rain in London on Sunday forced the umpires to call stumps early on Day 4, with Australia closing the day four on 135 for no loss, still 249 runs away from taking the Ashes 3-1 and England needing 10 wickets to level the series.
“My feeling is that England are still slight favourites, even after Australia’s start. The pitch is spinning and a day-five Oval pitch does turn,” Hussain told Sky Sports.
He further added the rain has provided Moeen Ali with some additional time to recover from his groin strain, indicating that off-spinner’s recovery might play a crucial role on...

New Delhi, July 28 (Ians) Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting was left fuming after being pelted by grapes on live television when he was on his broadcasting duties at the end of Day 1 of the fifth Ashes Test at the Oval.
The incident happened at the conclusion of Day One when Ponting was discussing some points of the day’s play. He was struck by a series of fruity missiles and several grapes were seen near his shoes on the turf.
After the Sky Sports presenter, Ian Ward wrapped an interview with Todd Murphy, pointed out to Ponting. “It looks like you’re being peppered with grapes,” Ward was quoted by the Sun.
But Ponting, who looked far from impressed, said: “I’ve just been hit by a grape. I wouldn’t mind finding out who that was actually.”

London, July 28 (Ians) Australia had a productive outing on day one of the fifth and final Ashes 2023 Test at The Oval, bowling out England for 283 before openers Usman Khawaja and David Warner made a solid start with the bat, here on Thursday.

London, July 26 (Ians) Veteran Australia opener David Warner has dismissed the rumours that he will retire from Test cricket after the fifth and final Ashes 2023 Test at the Oval.
Warner’s retirement speculation was fuelled when Vaughan told Fox Cricket that he had heard “whispers” during the Old Trafford Test that the final Ashes encounter would be left-hander’s last game in the red-ball format.
Notably, the 36-year-old batter last month announced his plans to retire following the three-match home series against Pakistan next summer, culminating in a home farewell for the New Year’s Test in Sydney.
He is now all set to play his final Test away from home this week when the fifth and final Test of an enthralling Ashes series takes place at The Oval from Thursday.
“No, not at all,” Warner said when asked if he had considered altering his retirement plans.

New Delhi, July 24 (Ians) Former England captain Michael Vaughan described the Australian cricket team as fortunate in retaining the Ashes, pointing out that rain helped the visitors.
The entire final day of the fourth Test was lost due to rain in Manchester on Sunday and the drawn match. The result means that the Ashes urn will be headed back to Australia regardless of the outcome in the fifth Test of an enthralling series at The Oval that starts on Thursday.
England needed five wickets to force a win with Australia needing 61 runs to force the hosts into batting again. The Ben Stokes-led side was in a dominant position for the majority of the match, but they were denied a crack at victory due to rain not allowing any play to happen on day five.
Highlighting Australia’s dependency on rain, Vaughan claimed that Pat Cummins-led side were rattled...

Manchester, July 19 (Ians) Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad made impactful contributions to give England first day honours in the fourth Ashes 2023 Test as Australia were 299-8 at stumps at Old Trafford, here on Thursday.
Woakes picked 4-52 in 18.5 overs to be England’s best bowler of the day, while Broad took 2-68 in 14 overs. During the opening day, Broad also reached 600 Test wickets, becoming just the second fast bowler and fifth bowler overall to reach the landmark.
It was a day where all Australian batters got starts, but none converted it into a big total.
After England elected to bowl first as skipper Ben Stokes went against the narrative of batting first, Broad moved to 599 Test wickets when he trapped Usman Khawaja lbw for three early in the morning session. David Warner shared a second-wicket stand of 46 with Marnus Labuschagne (51), before being dismissed by Woakes for 42.

New Delhi, July 19 (Ians) Veteran Australian opener David Warner has expressed his fondness for the banter song created by England fans, which humorously references his less-than-impressive performance against his nemesis seasoned English seamer Stuart Broad.
Warner’s well-documented struggles against Stuart Broad are evident with the English pacer dismissing him a total of 17 times throughout his career.
In the Headingley Test, Broad got Warner for the 16th and 17th time in a battle that is now a decade old.
On the Vaughany and Tuffers Cricket Club podcast, Warner admitted that he enjoys the banter song that England fans sing about him adding that he relishes his rivalry with Broad and praised the pacer’s consistent ability to bowl in impeccable areas throughout the game.
“Broady’s gonna get ya. The Hollies Stand started that, I love it. I always love facing Broady. We have two left-handed opening batters and he is one of,...
