TNT opens The Librarians: The Next Chapter this Sunday with an important lesson about magic, delivered by none other than Jacob Stone of the original series, as seen in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek above.
A spinoff of the mid-2010s TNT drama The Librarians — which itself was an offshoot of series of made-for-tv movies led by Noah Wyle (ER, The Pitt) — The Next Chapter centers on Vikram Chamberlin (Jamestown‘s Callum McGowan), a “Librarian” from from the year 1847 who time-travels to the present and finds himself stuck here. The Pitt's Dr. Collins star Tracy Ifeachor has addressed her character's season 2 return status and teased a possible romance with Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle). While The Pitt's characters were all important to the larger story, Collins had one of the more emotional storylines after she suffers a miscarriage halfway through her shift. This later leads to an emotional scene between her and Robby, reflective of their failed romantic relationship prior to when the show began. He suggests she goes home early given how busy and traumatic the day has been, leaving before the final arc of the story happens.
Speaking with Us Weekly, Ifeachor didn't reveal if she'll be in The Pitt season 2, but does praise the cast who will be showing up in the next batch of episodes. However, the actor also hinted at the probability that Collins and Robby would regain their romantic link, saying she tried...

Exactly three months ago, The Pitt was in 10th place for Best Drama Series; its vital signs have been steadily improving ever since.
By March, the Max medical procedural had jumped up to sixth place in Gold Derby's odds, and by April it was in the top four. Now, as word of mouth continues to grow, The Pitt has achieved its highest placement yet at No. 2, behind only the long-standing predictions leader, Severance.
The Pitt stars Emmy frontrunner Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, a senior attending physician who works a 15-hour shift at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. Each episode unfolds hourly in real time. Robby's fellow staff members include Taylor Dearden's Melissa "Mel" King, Katherine Lanasa's Dana Evans, Patrick Ball's Frank Langdon, and Shawn Hatosy's Dr. Jack Abbott.

While HBO Max’s The Pitt readies itself for filming on Season 2, star Tracy Ifeachor teased what might be coming through the doors of the emergency department next, including what the breakout drama has in store for her character Dr. Collins, both romantically and professionally speaking.
“Listen, there is going to be an amazing cast in Season 2 — just as there was in Season 1. I’m just going to leave it there,” she told Us Weekly in a new interview. “I’m not a [plot] ruiner. Fans have about four days to go before The Librarians make their grand return in the direct spin-off series The Next Chapter. On Sunday, May 25, a bunch of new characters will appear on small screens, as part of the ancient organization tasked with keeping dangerous supernatural artifacts from falling into the wrong hands. Dean Devlin, who has been a part of the beloved fantasy franchise since its creation, returns as showrunner of the upcoming spin-off, and he couldn't help but compare it to the original TNT series in anticipation of its premiere.

When Noah Wyle reunited with ER producers John Wells and R. Scott Gemmill to make HBO Max’s The Pitt, the plan was to offer a realistic portrayal of healthcare today through the lens of harried pros working in a fictitious Pittsburgh hospital.
What they didn’t expect was how their 15-episode drama would singlehandedly reinvigorate a genre that has grown predictable and downright exhausting with overused tropes and kooky, case-of-the-week tales.
In this telling, the trio of ER alums have crafted an engrossing saga that chronicles a typical 15-hour day in a trauma hospital. Beginning with the premiere episode “7:00 A.M.,” penned by Gemmill and directed by Wells, The Pitt introduces us to Wyle’s Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, who – on the anniversary of...

"The Pitt" is TV's newest and biggest hit. Premiering with a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and averaging 10 million viewers across its 14-episode season, the show is a bona fide smash according to all metrics. It's also an extremely complicated show to make, with a broad cast of characters who comprise the entire team of the hospital's emergency room.
In many ways, the show is a throwback to network medical drama "ER" (which has been the source of a much-talked-about lawsuit), but it has innovated with certain modern touches to bring the medical drama into the 21st century. The flashiest examples are its hard-edged realism, which produces tension by accurately reflecting what being inside an emergency room is really like, as opposed to the soap opera antics of other medical dramas.
The show is also innovating behind the scenes in how it pays its cast members. Normally, actors audition for a...

Despite the best efforts of the team, though, the delicate operation falls apart and soon spins into a brand-new con altogether. If you've seen "The Pitt" you probably feel like you've worked an entire shift in a real emergency room. That's very much the point of the Max series, which has become a big hit for the streamer in recent months to the extent that there's already talk of a "Pitt" spin-off and celebrity fans are singing the show's praises.
Undoubtedly, part of the show's success is it's commitment to realism. Unlike other series, "The Pitt" depicts its medical drama with a strikingly naturalistic tone that immerses you in what can feel like the truly harrowing lives of real emergency medical staff. After just a few episodes you feel the strain under which the doctors and nurses at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital are working, and when you start to think about how this is just a single day in their lives, you realize just how unfathomable the pressure of the medical field really is,...

There's a tremendous irony in one of the year's most popular streaming shows being a medical procedural that would feel right at home on cable television. I don't mean this as a slight; far from it, actually. There's a good reason why "The Pitt" was able to maintain its watercooler momentum over the past 15 weeks. In addition to the series being able to scratch that "ER" itch, the real-time hospital drama is an excellent example of economic storytelling that also evoked shades of "M*A*S*H*."
With such a sprawling ensemble to its name, it would be all too easy to lose track of these characters and their many cases, but "The Pitt" boasts an incredible cast in which everyone gets their moment to shine. As far as revival shows go, Leverage: Redemption has been impressive, with the third season recently premiering on Prime Video. With Season 3 now halfway through, fans might have begun to wonder about its renewal chances, especially considering how positive critical and audience reception are no longer enough to guarantee renewals these days. The metrics for renewals have become far more complex, and this is a fact not lost on one of the show's stars,Beth Riesgraf, who plays Parker. The actress recently addressed the show's renewal possibilities, suggesting that the streamer's subscription volume might be the ultimate deciding factor.

This article contains discussions of addiction and mass violence.
It probably shouldn't come as a huge surprise that "The Pitt," a Max original that started its run on HBO and Discovery's proprietary streamer in January 2025 (prior to it being re-named HBO Max), turned out to be one of 2025's biggest hits. Structured like "24" — in that each episode encompasses a "real-time" hour and the 15 episodes in season 1 comprise a 15-hour shift in an overcrowded and chaotic Pittsburgh emergency room — and helmed by three major veterans of "ER," "The Pitt" has been hailed as both an excellent drama and a stunningly accurate medical series. Thankfully, season 2 is already confirmed as well.
With that said, what do we actually know so far about the sophomore season of "The Pitt" (which will be led once again by Noah Wyle's seasoned and experienced trauma attending Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch)? Quite a lot,...

Max's "The Pitt" is the best medical drama in years, with the show being praised for its accuracy and bringing the stress of emergency rooms to the screen. "The Pitt" follows the frontline healthcare workers in a Pittsburgh-based hospital as they deal with all manner of incidents in real time, leaving them with very little room to relax. What's more, the cast of the Noah Wyle-led series had to follow strict rules on the set to ensure that every episode felt like a living, breathing hospital environment, further adding to the series' sense of verisimilitude.
While the show is very meticulous in some ways, it also had a somewhat unconventional journey to the screen. For example, one of the best scenes in "The Pitt" season 1 was shot before the series was fully written, but the creators made it work all the same. Not only that, but the show's writers...

One of ER fans' favorite sequences is also Eriq La Salle's.
May 18 marks the 25th anniversary of the Season 6 finale of the NBC hit, "May Day," the ending of which is a top-tier moment in the Benton (La Salle)-Carter (Noah Wyle) bromance. "It was definitely one of my favorite episodes," La Salle tells Gold Derby.
Towards the end of the hour, Dr. Benton, Dr. Greene (Anthony Edwards), Dr. Weaver (Laura Innes), Dr. Chen (Ming-Na Wen), and Dr. Anspaugh (John Aylward) stage an intervention for Dr. Carter, who had developed a pain medication addiction after surviving the brutal attack earlier in the season by schizophrenic patient Paul Sobriki (David Krumholtz) that killed Lucy (Kellie Martin).

Last week, HBO announced that The Last of Us scene-stealer Kaitlyn Dever would be campaigning as a guest star, as opposed to a supporting actress, for the zombie apocalypse drama. George Clooney is headed back to television…just not the way you think.
Unlike former co-star Noah Wyle’s return to the medical procedural genre with “The Pitt,” Clooney will be taking to the small screen via The Great White Way. For the last few months, he’s been performing at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre in a theatrical adaptation of his 2005 Oscar-nominated biopic “Good Night and Good Luck.” Now he’ll bring that story back to the place it first started: on television.
Airing Saturday, June 7 on CNN, CNN will air a live performance of “Good Night and Good Luck” in what will be the Broadway show’s penultimate performance. It’s also the first time in Broadway history a play has been televised live.
As per The New York Times, the play will be preceded and followed by coverage and discussion around the show, it’s history, and the current state of journalism.

Once upon a time, in 2010, HBO launched a streaming service where people could watch all of their programming. It was called HBO Go, and it was good. In 2014, they renamed the service HBO Now, I guess because you could watch it...now. In 2020, feeling antsy, they renamed it to HBO Max, because their shows are maximully entertaining. Then HBO's parent company WarnerMedia merged with Discovery, which had its own streaming service called Discovery+. Those services got mashed together in 2022 under a new name: now the service was simply called Max.
Then, yesterday, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that they were changing the name back to HBO Max, part of an apparent strategy to drill down on quality over quantity. Does that mean that all the low-rent reality shows added to the service when it merged with Discovery+ will be taken away? I don't know. I'm not sure the higher-ups at Warner Bros.

Word broke yesterday that Warner Bros. Discovery is changing the name of its streaming service from Max to HBO Max, and if that sounds familiar, it should. That was what the platform was first called when it launched in 2020. Fans have been having a lot of fun on social media making fun of Wdb since news of the change was announced, and the company seems fully aware of the irony, as it's gone so far as to troll people by taking some light-hearted jabs at itself.

Just like that, another streaming show is getting a linear airing. The Pitt will air on a channel, making the move similar to The Day of the Jackal and Paradise. However, it’s not to the network that you would initially expect.
The Pitt debuted on Max in January 2025. The 15 episodes, which showcase one hour in the emergency department in each episode, then ran weekly. It quickly became a success, keeping a storyline contained to just 15 hours in one hospital, putting the focus on how busy things can get and how long it can take to get test results back.
After the immediate success, it wasn’t surprising to see Max renew it for a second season. That season will be set over the course of a holiday weekend, which means a lot busier and likely a lot more drunker people!

Normally, Conan O’Brien and the “Inside the NBA” stars get the biggest laughs at a Warner Bros. Discovery upfront. O’Brien wasn’t there, instead appearing via a quick, albeit hysterical, video mocking the wonkiness of ad speak. And despite TNT’s loss of the NBA , legend-turned-analyst Shaquille O’Neal still dropped by, but as part of a gag for the DC team promoting their upcoming “Superman” film.
Instead, the audience of ad buyers gathered at Madison Square Garden for Tuesday’s Wbd upfront saved their biggest guffaws for the admittedly hysterical announcement that the company would rebrand its streaming service “HBO Max” — two years after dumping the “HBO” part of the name to just go “Max.”
“I know you’re all shocked, but the good news is I have a drawer full of stationary from the last time around,” HBO and Max content chief Casey Bloys joked to the crowd...

‘The Pitt,’ ‘Pulse,’ and more dramas that bring the same emotional chaos.
If you’ve stuck with “Grey’s Anatomy” through all the heartbreaks, hookups, and hospital disasters, you know it’s more than just a medical drama — it’s a TV institution. Max's The Pitthas been one of the most successful TV shows in 2025. The Pittsburgh-set drama follows a group of doctors and nurses as they go through a hellish 15-hour shift, including multiple deaths and a mass shooting incident. The series was highly acclaimed by critics -- so it is now getting a second viewing window on TNT.
Channing Dungey -- chairman and CEO of the Warner Bros. Television Group and US Networks -- announced the news today, as reported by Variety. Previously, HBO Max boss Casey Bloys indicated the show was on its way to TNT. Dungey wants to make it clear that The Pitt will be event television, something audiences won't be able to look away from once it gets going.

If you're one of the few people that haven't been able to check out The Pitt on Max because you don't have a subscription to the streaming service, you're in luck. Ahead of the Season 2 premiere next January, Season 1 of the hit medical drama will air on the TNT network this fall. Debuting earlier this year, The Pitt stars Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, and follows the emergency department staff at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital as they navigate a 15-hour shift.
News of The Pitt's premiere on TNT was made today by Warner Bros. Discovery at their Upfront presentation in New York, though it wasn't specifically stated when it would air. However, Channing Dungey, chairperson and CEO of the Warner Bros. Television Group and US Networks noted that when it does, it will have an event-like feel:

Warner Bros. Discovery is making The Pitt available to the masses (or at least those who don’t want to pay for an extra subscription): Season one of the HBO Max drama is coming to TNT.
Warner Bros. Television Group CEO Channing Dungey made the announcement Wednesday at the Wbd upfront. The first season will drop on the net ahead of its season two premiere on HBO Max.
The Pitt star Noah Wyle appeared at the presentation Wednesday to introduce Dungey and to talk about the origins of his new drama from John Wells and R. Scott Gemmill.
“When we set out, our goal with The Pitt was to make a show that was not just about medical cases, but about the people behind them, the dedicated folks who sacrificed daily in service of others inside of a fraying system that currently feels like it’s teetering on the edge,...

The Pitt, Max’s high-octane, real-time medical drama that took streaming by storm earlier this year, is making a fast and furious leap to linear TV. Warner Bros. Discovery officially announced during its 2025 upfront presentation that the show will air on TNT this fall — giving audiences who missed its initial streaming run a second chance to experience the series ahead of Season 2. But it's not just a case of recycling a greatest hit for the people at the top, as according to Warner Bros. Television Group and U.S. Networks CEO Channing Dungey, this is part of a bigger plan to “eventize” content from Max across the company’s linear platforms, treating shows like The Pitt as the must-see television they are.
“When we put Max programming on the T-nets, we want to make sure that we’re telling the audience, ‘This is something special, you want to tune in for this.

As expected, a second run of Max’s (soon to once again be “HBO Max’s”) smash freshman medical series “The Pitt” will make its way to TNT this fall, exposing the drama to linear viewers who perhaps haven’t caught it quite yet on streaming.

After "The Pitt," a medical drama that takes place in "real time" across a 15-hour shift at a fictional Pittsburgh hospital (albeit with filming locations that include the exterior of a real Pittsburgh hospital), premiered on Max in January 2025, the series became an immediate hit ... and you might be surprised that, compared to other HBO juggernauts, it's relatively cheap to produce.
In a feature about the series' success by IndieWire, executive producer and director John Wells — who came up with the idea for the series with his fellow "ER" veterans and friends R. Scott Gemmill (who serves as showrunner) and Noah Wyle (who stars as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch) — revealed that the series costs about $4 or $5 million per episode. For context, the first season of "The Last of Us" worked with a total budget of around $100 million, which came out to around $10 million per episode.

Broadcast television will soon close for the 2024-2025 season, and we’ll be without many of our favorite shows for the summer.
Gone are the days of summer fare you could sink your teeth into on a Tuesday night in the summer, with networks mostly opting for reality television shows like Big Brother and Bachelor in Paradise instead, which are solid choices for those who are into that kind of thing but not for everyone.
What if you want a solid drama to watch over the summer? Something you’ve never gotten a chance to check out because you’ve been inundated with so much television during the rest of the year.
(Warrick Page/Max )
There is so much television currently on television that some will argue there is too much.
And while broadcast television remains king for most, there are many gems on streaming platforms that are worthy of attention.

Noah Wyle has been wearing scrubs on television for decades. In 1994, a much-younger Wyle skyrocketed to fame thanks to "ER," a groundbreaking medical drama crafted by Michael Crichton that cast Wyle as third-year medical student turned trauma attending Dr. John Carter. Now, he's starring on "The Pitt," a Max original that reunites him with "ER" writers R. Scott Gemmill and John Wells, as trauma attending Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch. ("The Pitt," it should be said, is not a reboot of "ER." I say that for legal reasons.) Wyle, who felt inspired to create this series during Covid-19 when he apparently got messages from fans asking where "Carter" was during the crisis, sat down with Dave Davies for NPR's interview series "Fresh Air" and opened up about how his family — specifically, his mother — reacted to "The Pitt," which is particularly striking when you consider that Wyle's mom was once a real-life medical professional.

“Duster,” the rip-roaring new caper series spearheaded by J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan, is nothing less than a monument to the undeniable charisma of leading man Josh Holloway, who hasn’t had the chance to anchor a show in far too long.

Watching an episode of the hit Max medical drama "The Pitt" can feel as intense as being in the thick of it in a real emergency room, and that's no accident. Created by former "ER" producer R. Scott Gemmill, the series is as close to "real-time" as it gets, with each episode following a subsequent hour in the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center over the course of one wild shift. In order to make one of the most medically accurate fictional television series yet, the team put in quite a bit of effort. Everyone on set, cast and crew both, had to wear scrubs to ensure a sense of camaraderie and prevent any crew from accidentally ruining a shot, for example, and medical professionals were hired to work as some of the supporting extras, providing quick and easy corrections and assistance in keeping things accurate. All of this leads to one seriously well-made television series.

"The Pitt" ended its massively successful debut season as a Max original on April 10 of this year — and don't worry, it's already coming back for season 2 — and on that very same day, showrunner R. Scott Gemmill and star Noah Wyle sat down with Ryan Schwartz of TVLine to reveal something genuinely surprising. A major scene in the finale, which sees Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinabvitch (Wyle) hanging on by a thread and standing on a precarious rooftop ledge, was written before everything else in season 1 was put down on paper.
As Schwartz pointed out, Robby standing on the proverbial and literal ledge brings the season "full circle" — because in the series premiere, Robby arrives for his shift at 7:00 A.M. (the show is structured "in real time" and represents 15 hours in the emergency room) and finds his night shift counterpart Dr.

Welcome to It’s a Hit! In this series, IndieWire speaks to creators and showrunners behind a few of our favorite television programs about the moment they realized their show was breaking big.
Writer/producer/showrunner John Wells is a busy man. He’s produced and/or created countless hit series over the decades, many at his home at Warner Bros. since 1986, collecting six Emmy wins along the way.
More are in the cards.
His latest, Max’s new dramatic series “The Pitt,” set in a overflowing Pittsburgh emergency room, has ranked among 2024’s most popular hits (over 10 million views per episode). Easy explanations for the appeal of “The Pitt” range from its immersive, music-free “you are here now” structure — each episode of the procedural unwinds one hour of a 15-hour ER stint — to its dead-on accurate portrayal of contemporary medicine.
But mainly it’s a zeitgeist thing: the right show at the right time.

Katherine Lanasa was busy cleaning boots in her attic when she got a text from Supriya Ganesh, her costar on The Pitt. "She said, 'Congratulations' — something like that — 'that's so exciting!' And I said, 'What happened?' And she said, 'You got nominated for a Gotham Award. And I said, 'What is that?'" And then she sent it to me," Lanasa tells Gold Derby.

The Emmy race for Best Drama Actor just received a shot of adrenaline.
For the first time since Gold Derby's 2025 Emmys predictions center opened in February, Noah Wyle is leading the odds in this topsy-turvy category. The Pitt star has overtaken Adam Scott (Severance), who has been in the No. 1 position since early March. Before that, Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) was the frontrunner.
Max's real-time hospital drama has been on a major upswing since its final episodes streamed in April. In one buzzed-about moment, Wyle's character, Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, had a mental breakdown after a concert shooting brought dozens of patients into his emergency room, including his quasi-stepson's new girlfriend. Wyle is a five-time Emmy nominee for ER (1995-99), but this would be his first win.

Jimmy Kimmel put “The Pitt” star Noah Wyle — who has spent well over a decade of his acting career starring in medical dramas — to the test by having him try his luck at naming an assortment of medical tools on Monday.
To get the bit started, Kimmel questioned how long it would take for the actor to be considered a real doctor, given the amount of time he’s played a medical professional on both “ER” and “The Pitt.”
“Do you think you could identify commonly used medical tools?” Kimmel questioned as he shuffled together his stack of questions. “Perhaps,” Wyle responded.
“This one looks like you could go up a nostril pretty good,” Wyle said as he examined the first device closely. He was correct; it was a nasal speculum.

Dr. Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) is one of the more important characters in The Pitt despite his limited screen time. Abbot features at the beginning of The Pitt, talking to Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) on the roof before leaving at the end of his shift. He’s not seen again until he comes back to help with the PittFest mass shooting event. Dr. Abbot has a special relationship with Dr. Robby, but new information has come to light that shows where his romantic interests lie. Hatosy sat down for a tell-all interview with Variety to talk about The Pitt, and he revealed there’s a cut scene in Season 1 that would have revealed Dr. Abbot was interested in Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh):
"There’s one line in the first episode that got cut, where somebody makes a comment that she’s slow, and I say, ‘She’s the smartest person here.

The Pitt’s Dr. Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) may not share the same screen time as leading star Noah Wyle, who portrays Dr. Robby in the hit medical drama, but he’s still one of the most important characters in the show. Dr. Abbot and Dr. Robby share a touching moment on the roof at the start of the season, but it isn’t until the final seconds, when the crew has left Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, that we learn he’s an amputee. He’s also a medic with a history in combat who lost a fellow veteran right before the beginning of the show. During a recent sit-down with Variety, Hatosy spoke about Abbot not being defined by his condition, and also that he’d like to explore it way down the line if The Pitt continues to be renewed:

Noah Wyle has played doctors before, but never like this. In The Pitt, he steps into the role of Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch with a level of vulnerability that feels entirely lived-in. Episode 13 of Max’s gripping medical drama marks a turning point not only in the series but also in Wyle’s career.
Known for portraying doctors since his ER days, Wyle taps into something far more raw and personal in The Pitt. As the episode unfolds, it becomes clear that this isn’t just another crisis; it’s a complete emotional reckoning. And in the process, Wyle proves this is the role he was born to play.

Across the acclaimed first season, The Pitt has painted a brutal, honest picture of life inside the Emergency room of a hospital.

The Pitt star Shawn Hatosy has revealed how one cut scene would have drastically changed a character relationship between his Dr. Abbot and someone else. Abbot first appears in episode 1, just as Robby (Noah Wyle) is arriving on his shift. After the changeover happens, he's not seen again until the PittFest victims are brought in, giving him more development as he interacts with The Pitt's characters. His most important moments happen with Robby, though, offering only a few glimpses at his relationships with his other co-workers at the hospital.
Speaking with Variety, Hatosy revealed that Abbot was supposed to have a short scene in The Pitt episode 1 where he praised Dr. Samira Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) in a way that could be interpreted to imply he has a romantic interest in her. The actor explained how Abbot was supposed to compliment Mohan's intelligence, and that it would read like he was flirtatious about it.

Within minutes of stepping onto the Warner Bros. lot of The Jennifer Hudson show, this THR reporter stumbles upon an impromptu rehearsal in a hallway that’s instantly recognizable from social media. “Do you want to watch the spirit tunnel?” asks a staffer. That would be a resounding yes for witnessing in person the now-not-so-secret weapon behind the success and longevity of the show: Instead of walk-on music, guests are greeted with a sing-on of a surprise tune performed by the staff, who create a Soul Train-style runway, or “spirit tunnel,” for guests to walk through.
The guests for the pretaped episode are Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, Kelly Marie Tran and Han Gi-Chan, and the daytime talk show’s staff has remixed the lyrics of Jagged Edge’s “Let’s Get Married” to incorporate the title of their new rom-com, The Wedding Banquet.
