Revered Indian actor Waheeda Rehman has been accorded the Dadasaheb Phalke award, India’s highest film honor.
The award is given for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema and is named after Phalke, director of “Raja Harischandra” (1913), India’s first full-length feature, who is considered the father of Indian cinema.
Rehman, the 85-year-old grande dame of Indian cinema has worked with most of the legendary filmmakers of her country during her career and the roles she chose were in films that are considered classics in the annals of Indian cinema. Yesteryear’s screen heroine and pan-India actress Jamuna’s death on Friday morning has evoked a flood of condolence messages from Tollywood, cutting across political camps. In her heyday, Jamuna, who passed away aged 86, had starred alongside Ntr, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Jaggayya, Krishna, Sobhan Babu and Krishnam Raju. Tollywood star Nandamuri Balakrishna, better known as Nbk, on Thursday denied making derogatory comments about late legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Stating that he has a lot of respect for Nageswara Rao, the actor-politician said he did not use any word intentionally while referring to the late actor.
At the success meet of his latest release “Veera Simha Reddy”, Balkrishna’s comment about Nageswara Rao had triggered a row.
Talking about his father, late former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and creator of the Telugu Desam Party, N T Rama Rao, Balakrishna had said rather dismissively: “My father had some contemporaries, Ranga Rao (S V Ranga Rao), Akkineni, Thokkineni, and some others.”

She crooned, a-cappella, the ‘Kuhu Kuhu Bole Koyaliya’, a duet sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi for the pan-India 1957 film, ‘Suvarna Sundari’, starring the legendary Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Anjali Devi. That was her tribute the late Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar.

It's a known fact that almost every Indian looks up to the megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Amongst all the wonderful things, the one thing that makes Big B a cut above the rest is his never say no attitude. Big B recently wrapped up a cameo shoot for the Nagarjuna Akkineni starrer Telugu Manam, a film that stars three generations of the Akkinenis viz., the (late) A. Nageswara Rao, Nagarjuna and Nagarjuna's son Naga Chaitanya. Besides this, no other detail of the film has been disclosed. Noted filmmakers Girish Kasaravalli and Shaji N. Karun have been conferred the Padma Shri award for their distinguished contribution to the art of filmmaking in India. The President of India announced 128 civilian awards comprising of 13 Padma Vibhushan, 31 Padma Bhushan and 84 Padma Shri Awards yesterday.
Telegu cinema actor A Nageshwara Rao has been awarded the Padma Vibhushan while veteran actors Shashi Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman have been awarded the Padma Bhushan for cinema.
