In Season 2 of the ABC comedy, airing Wednesdays at 9:30/8:30c before Abbott Elementary, Nell Serrano (Gina Rodriguez) is more in the swing of things as the obituary writer at a California local newspaper called the SoCal Independent. Another Lionsgate movie is headed to Netflix, marking the first time it’s been available on an SVOD service. The Re-Education of Molly Singer drops on Netflix in the United States on February 5th, 2024.
Ty Simpkins and Jaime Pressly (My Name is Earl) headline the cast of the R-rated comedy movie that’s about attorney Molly Singer, who is on the verge of being fired and the only way to save her job is by re-enrolling at her old alma mater and re-experience college. Also starring in the movie are Nico Santos, Cierra Ramirez, Holland Roden, and Wendie Malick.
For the most part, Lionsgate theatrical movies head to Starz in the first window as outlined by a deal struck back in 2021. However, over the past year, we’ve seen some of the smaller movies head to Netflix in that first window. It began back in July 2023 with the...

Sometimes, you just need a warm hug from an old friend during the holidays, and Frasier Season 1 Episode 10, delivers that and more.
The installment was the perfect combination of sentimental, sweet, and funny. It showcases why this series absolutely deserves to get renewed for a second season.
And Roz's arrival was the big hug that Frasier and the audience needed.
Because if anyone can tell Frasier what he needs to hear, especially if it's that he shouldn't be the lone man at his pity party, it's Roz.
But Frasier had every right to feel melancholy. This was his first Christmas since Martin passed away.
Heck, it made my heart hurt a bit to see the silver tinsel Rudolph wreath and the singing and dancing Santa that, thank goodness, refuses to die.
Frasier: I used to hate Dad’s Christmas decorations, and now even this old Rudolph wreath is making me sentimental.

There are narrative flourishes and then there are narrative flourishes. And one in the new film from director Amy Glazer (Seducing Charlie Barker, The Surrogate) is a doozy. How much you appreciate this heartwarming drama about a female pilot who discovers that her grandmother may actually be a legendary figure in aviation history will depend on how much you’re willing to go along with its major plot twist, which won’t be revealed here but is relatively easy to figure out. But if you’re willing to suspend some disbelief, 7000 Miles, recently showcased at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, offers myriad pleasures, not the least of which is a terrific performance by Wendie Malick. The veteran sitcom actress (Dream On, Just Shoot Me, Hot in Cleveland) anchors the film with her charismatic turn in a rare leading role that Katharine Hepburn would have killed for.

The latest episode of Paramount+’s “Frasier,” entitled “Blind Date,” followed as Kelsey Grammer’s titular character competed with his son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott) for the affections of a woman named June (June Diane Raphael) in a 22-page-long scene.
Director Kelly Park told TheWrap that filming the sequence was “one of the highlights” of her career.
“It really allowed me to prove to myself that I am a technical director,” she said. “Kelsey Grammer was wonderful because he collaborated with me and was with me all the way. It was really divine… they just let me play, let me create, and allowed me to delve into what Frasier used to be and bring it back home.”
But directing a multi-camera comedy in front of a live studio audience is no easy feat.

What made the original "Frasier" series so good? It's a question we at /Film have been feverishly searching for answers to in light of Paramount+'s release of the "Frasier" revival, which is quite mixed, if it's the original series you're holding it to as a standard. There aren't as many jokes per minute, the understanding of its central character isn't always perfect, and they're only just figuring out which elements from the original series were okay to discard, and which needed to be in the mix for the cake to come out tasty.
One of the shakier aspects of this calculus has been the revival's handling of its character dynamics. This is a fully defensible area of weakness -- character dynamics are both the hardest aspect of sitcoms to iron out and the singular aspect that makes them soar or sink. Opinions vary, but if you ask for mine,...

Looks like all those early concerns about whether name stars would walk the picket line ended up being a waste of energy: a strike captain on Saturday recognized Day 100 of the SAG-AFTRA strike by calling out many of the big names who joined the rank and file in those daily protests.
“Instead of talking about who is not on the picket line, let’s celebrate the name talent who have been showing up,” wrote Chelsea Schwartz, who encouraged her followers to add to her thread.
Among those she singled out were Chris Pine, Jennifer Garner, Timothy Olyphant, Mandy Moore, Ben Schwartz, Nick Offerman, Ming-Na Wen, Sam Elliott, Jack Black, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Margot Robbie, Jon Cryer, Jean Smart, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, Jennifer Grey, Clarke Gregg, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rhys Darby, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel, Sterling K Brown, Ben Barnes, Jack Quaid, Robert Pine, Raegan Revord, Tate Donovan,...

Twenty years have passed since Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) has graced the small screen, but according to the Paramount+ series revival, the beloved sarcastic psychiatrist hasn’t changed a bit…just his surroundings, profession, close friends, and the actor playing his son have.
Where to begin with what fans need to remember about “Frasier” before the revival, premiering October 12? Well, first of all, Frasier is back in Boston, returning to his “Cheers” roots before he made the move to Seattle for a radio show and to be closer to his ailing father, Martin, portrayed by late actor John Mahoney.

First Orion, now Feringinar. Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 4 Episode 6 takes us to another alien homeworld never closely examined in the franchise's live-action offerings.
Meanwhile, Mariner hasn't quite shaken the self-destructive compulsion, and Boimler discovers his Achilles' Heel.
Also, it finally explores the question of whether Rutherford and Tendi could ever be more than friends.
But before the LTJGs' antics distract us, let's point out the tidbit of intel revealed in the teaser. The Ferengi lower decks crew member on the ship that encounters the mystery vessel has foreknowledge they were going to be taken.
Also, he doesn't seem afraid, which is a strong indication that the abduction/collection theory has some credence. How this is a profitable endeavor is yet to be revealed.

The Creative Coalition’s annual Humanitarian Awards takes place the week of the Primetime Emmys — but even though the big show was pushed to January, the benefit luncheon still took place on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the La Peer Hotel rooftop in West Hollywood, attracting a wide range of honorees and presenters.
The Humanitarian Awards recognizes talent who donate their time, resources and their celebrity to promote worthy social causes. This year, honors went to Jason Alexander, Pauline Chalamet, Billy Eichner, Wendie Malick, Arian Moayed and Lena Waithe, as well as Josefina López, who was saluted with the Your Voice Carries Weight award. Presenters included Alyssa Milano, Cazzie David, Lawrence O’Donnell, Gloria Calderón Kellet, Samantha Hanratty, Debbie Levin, Bradley Whitford and Darnell Moore.
Variety co-editor-in-chief Cynthia Littleton hosted the luncheon, which opened with remarks from The Creative Coalition CEO Robin Bronk; both cited the org’s continued fight for arts funding and education.

"We all deserve a second chance at a first impression." Lionsgate has unveiled an official trailer for an indie college comedy titled The Re-Education of Molly Singer, made by filmmaker Andy Palmer. His entire filmography isn't impressive, which should be a sign of what to expect with this. To save her job, a young lawyer must go undercover, enrolling as a freshman at her old alma mater, in order to resuscitate the well being of her Boss' terribly awkward teenage son. Molly goes to battle with stuck-up hall monitors, boozed-up frat brothers, and her old archenemy in a hilarious quest through the past to save her future. The comedy stars Jaime Pressly as Brenda, Ty Simpkins as Elliot, Britt Robertson as Molly Singer, Nico Santos, Cierra Ramirez, Jonathan Lipnicki, and Wendie Malick. This sounds like the copy cat junk version of Jennifer Lawrence's No Hard Feelings, similar concept about...

Who knew that when Dr. Frasier Crane first appeared on the iconic 1980s sitcom Cheers, the character would have the staying power to last decades?
Perhaps Kelsey Grammar, who portrays the fastidious psychiatrist, did. Grammar took Frasier from pining over Shelly Long's, Diane, and drinking beers in Boston to telling radio fans, "I'm listening" in Seattle.
Where is Dr. Frasier Crane headed next? We'll take a look at everything you need to know about the new Frasier!
How Did the Original Frasier End?
When Cheers ended in 1993, Dr. Frasier Crane moved back to his hometown of Seattle, Washington. Frasier began a new phase of his career, hosting his own radio show and giving listeners advice.
He also reconnected with his family, which included his father, Martin, a retired police officer, and brother, Niles, who, to viewer's shock, was even more quirky and fastidious than Frasier!

After her character, Gaby, walks in on a post-coital moment Paul (Harrison Ford) shares with his doctor Julie (Wendie Malick), Gaby’s response is one of shock, admiration, and childlike wonder.
“All of that I feel like is one of the things I’m most proud of this season,” Williams tells Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview. “I love the way it was edited and directed, and they caught so many good moments. And I even like when Gaby leaves the scene, and Harrison’s just rolling his eyes at me. There’s just so much there that I really love. I’m so happy that just gets...

The Gold Derby predictions center event for the 2023 Emmy Awards has now added the Comedy Guest Actress category. From last year’s six nominees, both Jane Lynch (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) and Harriet Walter (“Ted Lasso”) are eligible to return. Lynch, of course, won this category back in 2019 for her performance as Midge’s (Rachel Brosnahan) nemesis, standup comedian Sophie Lennon. Laurie Metcalf won last year for a two-episode arc on “Hacks,” which nabbed four of the six guest actress slots last cycle. The HBO Max series will not air new episodes in time to compete this year,...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “Closure,” the Season 1 finale of “Shrinking,” now streaming on Apple TV+.
Throughout “Shrinking,” Jimmy (Jason Segel) makes a handful of questionable decisions as a therapist. However, his session with Grace (Heidi Gardner) in the final episode seemingly encourages her to make a dire decision. While telling Jimmy she’s finally standing up to her verbally abusive boyfriend, Grace jokes that he’s lucky they’re not on a cliff because she’d push him off. Jimmy cheers her on, telling her, “That’s what I’m talking about! Off the cliff! Bash his brains! Eat them up!”
The episode ends, however, with her boyfriend threatening her on a hike and her pushing him off the cliff.
“One of the things that we did think was really, really important was to make sure that the show was honest. And Jimmy is behaving erratically and...

When Sienna Miller arrived on the set of Extrapolations for the first day of filming in October 2021, a Native American shaman came to bless the grounds. There were no printed signs directing her where to go, or stacks of paper scripts available for producers to scribble their notes in the margins. Instead, there were clothing racks filled with thrifted and vintage garments sustainably sourced by the costume department, water stations for refilling nonplastic bottles, compostable plates and utensils, and plant-based craft services. It was the greenest set the actress says she’s ever been on.

Solution-based thinking was the name of the game on the second day of the annual Environmental Media Association Impact Summit, which featured sessions filled with searing insights and new ideas in the battle against climate change and environmental inequity.
First up was The Hollywood Reporter’s deputy editor Degen Pener, in conversation with Mustafa Santiago Ali, executive vice president of conservation and justice for the National Wildlife Federation. Titled “How Should the Media Discuss Eco-Disasters Such as The Norfolk Southern Train Derailment?” the talk touched on the importance of community-led change.
“Communities speak for themselves. Communities will let you know what they need,” said Ali, who was recently on the ground in East Palestine, Ohio, after a train carrying toxic chemicals derailed there on Feb. 3.
Though heartened by the increased coverage of eco-disasters by journalists, Ali encouraged media companies to be more transparent about the sources of their ad revenue.

Frequent collaborators and co-directors Martin Scorsese and David Tedeschi’s upcoming documentary, “Personality Crisis: One Night Only,” will premiere April 14 at 8 p.m. on Showtime.
“Personality Crisis: One Night Only” has also released a trailer providing audiences a peek into the lives of Johansen, the one-time New York Dolls lead singer who later performed as Buster Poindexter. Focusing on Johansen, his legacy and his special January 2020 performance, the film documents the punk legend as he “regales the audience with stories and music illuminating the art and cultural evolution of New York City,” according to the film’s logline.
Scorsese explained what drew him to this project: “I’ve known David Johansen for decades, and his music has been a touchstone ever since I listened to the Dolls when I was making ‘Mean Streets’… Then and now, David’s music captures the energy and excitement of New York City. They’re back. Rlje Films presents the Stephen King reboot Children of the Corn by Kurt Wimmer on 500+ screens. It’s a redo of the classic 1984 slasher-horror film about kids possessed by a demonic spirit in a dying cornfield, with bloody, rampaging results.
King’s iconic short story features a 12-year-old Nebraska girl who recruits the kids in her small town for a killing spree of all the adults, and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival. There are some new twists, in Wimmer’s version, the corn is genetically modified. Starring Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey and Bruce Spence.
The story is great, spawning numerous spinoffs beginning with Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice in 1992 followed by Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest in 1995. Most went direct to video.

A new doctor is thrown into the mix in Shrinking Episode 3, dropping Friday, February 3 on Apple TV+. And TV Insider has the exclusive first look at Wendie Malick‘s guest star role in the series. Malick plays Dr. Julie Baram, neurologist to Harrison Ford‘s Paul Rhoades (she’s also guest starring in the Night Court reboot. Booked and busy!). In the exclusive clip above, Paul is in an appointment with Dr. Baram, who’s in charge of his treatment plan for his progressing Parkinson’s symptoms. Is it just us, or does there seem to be a spark between these two as Dr. Baram urges Paul to eat healthier? (Good luck getting him to do that. Paul loves his Fun Dip.) Dr. Baram then checks in on Paul’s emotional health, turning the tables on the therapist for a spell. “I know what’s coming,” he replies. “I try not to dwell.

Situational comedies lean heavily on the absurd at times. Night Court Season 1 Episode 4 is an example where it's best not to ask too many questions about the who, what, and why of any particular context.
On the one hand, the humor of having Dan's first romantic exploit as a widower turn out to be a psychopath's revenge plot deflects a lot of potential emotional angst.
On the other, I don't think we know enough about Olivia and Gurgs to readily accept them as work wives.
One of the hallmark traits of District Attorney Dan Fielding in the 80s was his skirt-chasing, womanizing ways.
He was ridiculous and lascivious and altogether reprehensible. He was also incredibly entertaining, doing much of the comedic heavy-lifting as Larroquette's four Emmy wins can attest to.
So, of course, Dan Fielding Version 2023 has been criticized by some for his more serious and thoughtful (if curmudgeonly) persona.

Will Dan (John Larroquette) find love over the newspaper? It seems to be possible in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the January 31 episode of Night Court. As Larroquette shared prior to the premiere, “Dan had a great love that he lost. He’s also 75 — give the man a break!” However, there does seem to be something between him and Julianne (Wendie Malick) after she approaches him asking for help in this clip. “Oh, please, yes, can I help you? What, would you like to bang my gavel? Some other tortured double entendre? Let me tell you something: I dress like this to please myself, not to be ogled and debased by deviants like you,” he informs her. However, she tells him, she just wanted directions to the records room. After Dan tells her, he keeps her from leaving with an apology, offering, “I’ve had a long day.

Thirty years after “Night Court” came to a decidedly dissatisfying conclusion following nine seasons, NBC is returning to the scene of the crime and punishment. A sequel rather than a reboot, the new series features Judge Abby Stone — daughter of the zany but popular Judge Harry Stone (the late Harry Anderson), who anchored the original sitcom — wielding the gavel. She’s as bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as he was, though not as deft a magician; during one trick, she gets a Constitution stuck in her bra.
A refresher: When we last left our kooky courtroom family, everyone essentially had decided to go their separate ways — defense attorney Christine Sullivan (the late Markie Post) to a newly elected post in Congress, womanizing assistant district attorney Dan Fielding (John Larroquette) to chase after Christine, court clerk Mac Robinson (the late Charles Robinson) to film school, and Harry, well, still in night court. Animation for children deserves more respect, especially lately. In an industry that values profits over artistic risks, kids' animation remains a dismissible art form, and the intelligence of its audience is often underestimated. In 2022, the industry faced HBO Max's purge of several animated projects, an ongoing battle for fair wages, and the abridgement or outright cancelation of numerous shows and movies. Looking back, it's hard to not wonder what might have been.
These obstacles are especially notable given how much animation aimed at children has evolved over the years. A number of 2022's animated projects were particularly inventive and thought-provoking. It was a year full of glorious stop-motion productions, breathtaking visual innovations, and major milestones when it comes to queer visibility. Just remember: For our purposes, "kids" is an inclusive term that refers to both actual children as well as the kid that exists in every adult. With that in mind,...

The Environmental Media Association held its annual awards gala Saturday night, recognizing the efforts of those working toward a healthier planet. Don’t Look Up, Abbott Elementary, Yellowstone and The Problem With Jon Stewart were among the productions feted for their work in following green practices and telling stories of environmental justice, climate action and sustainability.
The event, held at Los Angeles’ Sunset Las Palmas Studios, also honored superstar Billie Eilish and her mother Maggie Baird with the Ema Missions in Music Award for their environmental work. Together, the mother-daughter duo created “Overheated,” an extra component to Eilish’s Happier Than Ever, The World Tour, with climate-focused activities including clothing swaps, documentary screenings and plant-based conversations to communicate issues related to sustainable fashion. It was organized in collaboration with Baird’s charity, Support + Feed, which takes on food insecurity and the climate crisis with plant-based food.

David Spade and Wendie Malick are set to host the 2022 Environmental Media Association Awards gala.
The Just Shoot Me co-stars previously hosted the event in 2000.
“I couldn’t ask for a better co-host for this year’s Ema Awards Gala,” Malick, who also serves as an Ema board member, said in a statement. “I’d like to take full credit for igniting David’s passion for environmental activism, but I think he saw the light when he became a Dad. I look forward to celebrating all that has been achieved this year, and once again being on stage with my friend David to honor those bringing inspiration and humor to the very serious issues affecting our planet.”
The Ema also announced this year’s nominees for its celebration of environmental excellence in media.

If you set out to combine the worst parts of Hallmark holiday movies with the worst parts of frenetic ‘90s rom-coms, you’d probably wind up with something a lot like “About Fate.” The women are nuts, the men are clueless and the production is so cheap you could pass the time spotting every mistake no one bothered to fix.
Maybe a movie that has so little ambition doesn’t deserve such a harsh summation. But we have, for the most part, moved beyond the most enervating chick-flick stereotypes. So it’s more than a little dispiriting to see Margot (Emma Roberts) lose her mind when her boyfriend Kip suggests they get dinner at Bennigan’s.
For reasons that make sense only to screenwriter Tiffany Paulsen — who also wrote the Roberts vehicles “Nancy Drew” and “Holidate” — Margot is fixated on the idea that Kip must be proposing. They’ve only been dating for three months,...
