Hollywood Squares officially returns in January and will bring a star-studded lineup of guests to entertain viewers and, hopefully, help out contestants.

The popular game show is a variation of tic-tac-toe and features celebrities called upon to help contestants answer questions for an “X” or “O” in their square.

Among those seated in the squares are talk show host Drew Barrymore and The Price Is Right host Drew Carey.

While CBS Mornings star and former NFL player Nate Burleson hosts the returning game show, Barrymore will be the center square throughout the episodes.

And it seems nobody is safe from receiving comedic jabs from various individuals around them.

In a hilarious new teaser for the show, Barrymore and Carey get roasted by fellow celebrity guests.

The premiere of Hollywood Squares is just around the corner, and the show has now announced the celebrity guests who will be appearing on the reboot of the classic game show. Nate Burleson, host of Hollywood Squares, broke the news on Tuesday’s (November 19) edition of CBS Mornings, where he unveiled a star-studded line-up of celebrity guests, including the likes of Tyra Banks, Jay Leno, and Julie Bowen. Gravitas Ventures has acquired U.S. and Canadian rights to the religious horror film “Inhabitants” from Brick Lane Entertainment. Written and directed by Matt McClung (“The Mad Whale”), Gravitas plans to release the film on digital and video on demand in February 2025.

Cast members include Anna Jacoby-Heron (“Stranger Things”), Josh Andrés Rivera (“American Sports Story”), Ana Auther (“Shadow Brother Sunday”), Todd Robert Anderson (“Good Girls”) and Kevin Nealon (“Man with a Plan”). According to the official logline, the film follows “a young woman who moves in with her lapsed Catholic boyfriend, only to discover that they’re being haunted by the vengeful ghost of his childhood youth minister.”

But there was a time when SNL-ers were actually forbidden from appearing in any ads while they were working on the show. Real ads, that is; spots for Colon Blow and Oops! I Crapped My Pants were obviously still cool.

Most people would know if a coworker was pretending to have sex with them. But as we learned on this week’s Fly on the Wall podcast — and several other times over the years — Victoria Jackson is not like most people.

When Jackson and Dana Carvey were on the show together, the cast needed several ways to relieve tension, Carvey revealed. “So much tension,” agreed Jackson. One method was gathering in the office shared by Carvey and Kevin Nealon, reveling in impromptu dance parties to the strains of the Pretenders’ “Don’t Get Me Wrong.”

Jackson had another method of relieving all that stress, according to Carvey. “You and (Jon) Lovitz would always have — just in a PG-13 way — simulated sex.”

That was news to Jackson. “Oh, I didn’t know we were having sex, by the way.”

Given that Bill Clinton spent two terms as president in the 1990s, it was almost impossible for him not to be an SNL staple throughout the decade. In fact, Clinton provided so much material for the show over those years that he was played by two different cast members: Darrell Hammond and, of course, the late Phil Hartman. That said, of all the SNL sketches lampooning Clinton over that nearly 10-year period, one is continually cited above all the rest — his impromptu stop at a local McDonald’s as president-elect.

Once inside, he glad-hands with patrons while eating off their plates and explaining detailed policy measures. Former Saturday Night Live cast member Melissa Villaseñor is opening up Owen Wilson’s time as guest host on the NBC late-night sketch show.

The comedian has impersonated the Wedding Crashers actor on her YouTube channel and sketches for Más Mejor. Villaseñor recalled that when Wilson hosted SNL’s Season 47 premiere in 2021, she brought up the idea of impersonating him alongside him, but he denied the request.

“He hosted, and I asked him if we could do the Owen impression together,” Villaseñor said on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast. “He was like, ‘I feel like it’s done. I feel like people, it’s over.’ He didn’t want to do it.'”

By 31-year-old comic Mitch Hedberg’s estimation, only about 10 percent of Americans knew who he was in 1999 — so what chance did he have to kill at a comedy festival in Kilkenny, Ireland? But he figured out a secret to making any audience laugh, he told Kevin Nealon at the time.

“I started to delete shit, is what it comes down to,” Hedberg revealed. “I have jokes that have maybe three — or four at the most — punchlines, but I started to make it come down. I figured out that one or two is the best. You know, the second punchline or the first punchline works better than the third and the fourth.”

While Hedberg had scored with a Comedy Central special in the U.S., he was an unknown in Ireland. An added degree of difficulty: Many of his punchlines were loaded with cultural references that were unlikely to make sense in another country.

When former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Dana Carvey returned to Studio 8H in Season 50 to portray United States President Joe Biden, he actually became the 10th person overall to wear the iconic white wig. Biden has been a fixture on NBC’s late night sketch series since 1991, when Kevin Nealon played the then-Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman in a single sketch that lampooned Clarence Thomas‘ Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

Weekend Update is a sketch and parody newscast presented on Saturday Night Live. It is the brainchild of popular SNL cast member Chevy Chase and SNL writers Herb Sargent and Al Franken, which parodies current events.

The sketch is SNL's longest-running, premiering during the first broadcast of SNL on October 11, 1975. During Chase's run as a news anchor, he often began his bits talking exclusively on the phone to a mystery person, unaware that he was live on air. He used the catchphrase "I'm Chevy Chase...and you're not" and concluded his segment with "That's the news...good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow."

Over the years, many other notable names served as newscasters, including Jane Curtain, Dennis Miller, Kevin Nealon, Norm MacDonald, and Colin Quinn. Personally, I believe MacDonald, with his dry delivery, is the cream of the crop when it comes to Weekend Update anchors.

Saturday Night Live skits have given us some of the funniest and most enjoyable movies of their eras. Ok, there aren’t many – we’re really mostly talking about The Blues Brothers, the Wayne’s World double feature and MacGruber – but what’s there is choice comedy. On the other side, we have crap like It’s Pat, The Ladies Man and Stuart Saves His Family, all proving that just because something works for five minutes doesn’t mean it can sustain 90. Take another recurring skit, Debbie Downer, for another example, who Rachel Dratch turned into a signature character in more than a half-dozen appearances. Thankfully such a movie never happened – something that Dratch is perfectly fine with.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Rachel Dratch recognized that while the character stands as one of her greatest contributions to SNL, she just wouldn’t have the legs to make it on the big screen.

The key to understanding Conan O’Brien’s comedy is knowing that it comes from a point of kindness. Yes, I know in this age of comics punching down, this kind of compliment may leave you with a neon “Must Avoid!” sign flashing in your bleary eyes — but stay with me.

The news is out about a potential Happy Gilmore 2, and Adam Sandler mentioned several actors he wants to cameo in the anticipated sequel.

They are The Price Is Right host Drew Carey and longtime journalist and TV personality Dan Patrick.

In the 1996 classic comedy, Sandler played the title character, a hockey player turned golfer. Christopher McDonald played his rival, Shooter McGavin, and let it slip last month that a sequel was in development.

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?

Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

Richard Lewis, the wild, eccentric, ultra-neurotic stand-up comedian and comic actor who most recently served as a semi-regular alongside Larry David on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” is dead. He was 76. Lewis suffered a fatal heart attack Tuesday night less than a year after announcing in April 2023 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and was retiring from performing stand-up comedy. Lewis’ death was confirmed by his publicist Jeff Abraham, who noted, “His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for the love, friendship and support and asks everyone for privacy at this time.”

He appeared this month on the 12th and final season of “Curb” after begging off of the show in its 11th season while recovering from a series of surgeries. But he wound up shooting a scene in an episode that year, anyway.

Richard Lewis, the stand-up comedian who also starred alongside Larry David in “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” died Tuesday night at his Los Angeles home due to a heart attack, Variety has confirmed. He was 76.

Lewis announced last April he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and was retiring from stand-up comedy. He most recently appeared in Season 12 of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” currently airing on HBO.

In 2021, Lewis announced he would not appear in Season 11 of “Curb” in order to recover from three surgeries. He surprised viewers by returning to set for one Season 11 episode, telling Variety at the time, “When I walked in and they applauded, I felt like a million bucks. Larry doesn’t like to hug, and he hugged me and told me how happy he was after we shot our scene.”

Richard Lewis, one of America’s most beloved and revered stand-up comics who also played a fictionalized version of himself on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, died Tuesday night at his home in Los Angeles after suffering a heart attack. He was 76.

His death was confirmed by his publicist Jeff Abraham. Lewis had been living with Parkinson’s disease, a diagnosis he revealed in April 2023.

“His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time,” Abraham said.

Born Richard Philip Lewis on June 29, 1947, in Brooklyn and raised in Englewood, NJ, Lewis — after a childhood he would describe as difficult — graduated from Ohio State University before landing in the New York and Los Angeles comedy scenes of the 1970s.

The Fox News streaming outlet plans to turn January into a comedy-themed month, one that is led by two stand-up concerts featuring Fox’s own talent as well as a new series about the history of drinking hosted by Dan Aykroyd and other alumni from “Saturday Night Live.”

There was a very emotional moment at the very end of this weekend’s Saturday Night Live.

As guest host of the night Jason Momoa signed off from Saturday’s episode (November 18), Weekend Update co-anchor Colin Jost held up a sign that said “We love you Dana and Paula.”

The sweet message was meant for SNL alum Dana Carvey and wife Paula Zwagerman, after the couple’s oldest son, Dex Carvey, died earlier this week from an accidental drug overdose at 32.

Saturday Night Live featured another Joe Biden in its cold open tonight, this time with Mikey Day portraying the Potus in an offbeat Halloween-themed skit that featured a cameo by Christopher Walken.

Day is the latest figure to play Biden, as James Austin Johnson played the president last season and Jim Carrey played him during the 2020 election season.

The cold open was a bit disjointed, like three skits in one, starting with Biden, with his slow gait, putting up Halloween decorations in the Oval Office and proving he can, at 80, climb a ladder. Then there was a visit from new Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (Michael Longfellow) along with his Black son (Devon Walker), also named Mike. “No one knows his last name,” the new speaker tells the president.
