Mumbai, March 6: Singer Shaan has opened up on why Dil Chahta Hai will always be special for him.
"Dil Chahta Hai's success was extremely important for me because till then I believed that something had jinxed my movie soundtracks. No matter how super hit my songs were at that time, the movies didn't do so well at the box office. So, I was really hoping for this curse to break and that happened with Dil Chahta Hai," he said, while opening up on his Bollywood playback career on the music show Indian Pro Music League (Ipml).
Working on the film, he recalled, was fun. Farhan Akhtar, who made his directorial debut with the 2001 film, actually fooled the cast into believing the actor Saif Ali Khan had sung his part in the song Koi kahe kehta rahe, while it had actually been sung by Shaan.

Mumbai, Oct 17 (Ians) Choreographer-filmmaker Farah Khan has an interesting anecdote on how the famous hook step of the hit song, Woh ladki hai kahan, in the 2001 blockbuster, Dil Chahta Hai, was finalised.
The song was picturised on Saif Ali Khan and Sonali Kulkarni and Farah opted for a retro mood for the video.
"I remember I had told Geeta (Kapur) that I will play the song and you do some steps. She started doing some birdy step and that is how we made that our hook step," said Farah.
Geeta quipped: "I did that step out of frustration because I couldn't think of anything."
Farah had recently joined Geeta and choreographer Terence Lewis, and dancer-actress Malaika Arora for the Romance Special episode of "India's Best Dancer ".
On the show, Farah said: "I know I have three children, but Geeta will be my first child."
The two have known each other for a long time.

Mahi Gill?s problem with herself
"I have a very big problem in my life. I go to the set, work, and after that I disappear. I think I have worked on maximum movies with Jimmy. But when we meet, it's only on the set, after which I disappear. Then again we meet at promotions. Again, I disappear."
?
Mahi Gill was selected in the army!
"I was selected in the army. I always wanted to join the army. I never wanted to become an actor. Didn't know what a set was. I even went to train at Ota, Chennai. My grandfather was in the army. My mother was a senior lecturer in a college. And she had majored with Ncc. So obviously, our family had a disciplined lifestyle. So, when the army selection happened, in those days, there were very few girls who joined the army. At least now, there is awareness.

Powerful messages, stunning cinematography and authentic performances – 2014 was a good year for independent (indie) cinema. Here is a list of some of our favourites which are worth catching if you missed them.
Ilai (Leaf)
Director Rajiv Reddy’s film traced the journey of a young homeless girl in India, Chennai. Ilai was a good exploration of human emotion, survival and regeneration. The performances were outstanding and natural. Profoundly, the protagonist returns to the same place that she had started off at at the beginning of the film; however, this time she sees the world with different eyes. The film highlights how experiences impact the human soul. We saw this at the London Indian Film Festival and our reviewer wrote, “At times, the cinematography will have you spell bound. Artistic shots of the sun and the streets make this film a visual treat: for instance, a particular shot of the heat...

Both of them contribute towards the development of the rural village by providing medicinal support to its people, as well as protecting animals who have escaped from harm. In real life, the Amtes are crucial role models for rural India, with regards to delivering and educating villagers on medicine and health. Both have been rewarded for their social activities and services by the government and have proved that in a vast land like India, even the smallest support to its people is incredibly helpful and can a positive impact on its society.

As we reported earlier, the closing night of the 5th London Indian Film Festival was headlined by acting legend Nana Patekar, whose film Hemalkasa was being screened. Nana gracefully took some time out to take part in an exclusive interview with BollySpice where he spoke about the film and more. Check out his thoughts on the night!
Q: Tell us how it feels to be headlining this year’s London Indian Film Festival?
A: It’s nice. But it’s not a film which we have done. For me it’s not a film. We have tried to create something unique which one person is doing in one corner of the world. Fortunately, this festival has selected this film and that’s why we are here.
Q: What were your experiences like of making this film?
A: This person (Dr. Prakash Amte) is not new for me and I have known him for 42 years.

The Good Road, India's Submission for the Academy Award Nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. U.S. : None Yet. Production Company: National Film Development Corporation : Cinemas of India
Mesmerizingly diverse India is a land of immeasurable contrasts, which cultural tapestry is breathtaking and too vast to compile into one single artistic work. Modern and in synch with the global economic competitiveness but also protective of its intricately varied ancestry, the country is a melting pot of religious beliefs, languages, and lifestyles. Hence the fact that it’s almost impossible to summarize what it means to be Indian and to determine what is the accepted national identity that applies to all the distinct fractions of the population. Nonetheless, Gyan Correa’s Gujarati-language feature The Good Road does an outstanding job at integrating people from all walks of Indian’s social stratum into a cohesive and absorbing film that honors such enriching multiculturalism.
Arranged in a multi-linear fashion the converging stories take place along highway 378, which runs near the Rann Dessert. Impertinent 7-year-old Aditya (Keval Katrodia) is a city boy on holiday with his picture-perfect suburban family from Mumbai. While wandering around a roadside store, the boy is unexpectedly left behind by his parents, which sets in motion a triptych road trip that turns into an introspective learning journey for all its participants. Ordered by his morally deviant boss, Pappu (Shamji Dhana Kerasia), a truck driver on his way to complete an illegal operation, is responsible for taking Adi to the nearest diner to wait for his parents. Helped by his suspicious assistant Shaukat (Priyank Upadhyay), the two men now have to accomplish their mission while caring for the irritating child.
At a distant point along the same path, starving and noticeably exhausted, Poonam (Poonam Kesar Singh) is a small girl trying to hitch a ride to her grandmother’s house when she stumbles upon a makeshift brothel in the middle of nowhere. Warned by the owner that she is too young to stay there, Poonam decides to stay long enough to rest and grab some food. Unaware of the sort of business that goes on there, she befriends teenage Rinkle, an experienced young woman who wants to show her the ropes of the trait. Meanwhile, David (Ajay Gehi) and Kiran (Sonali Kulkarni), Adi’s parents, are tormented by guilt and desperately look for him. Aided by police they launch a full-scale search that puts their own lives at risk, and shakes them into realizing the important things that shouldn’t be taken for granted.
Linked together by the arid landscape of the Gujarati province, the ensemble cast conveys the unified spirit of he country’s people disregarding their origin or social status. The serendipitous events in their shared journey are a test, and require them to decide whether to take the road of virtue or one of hatred. Initially charged with animosity, Adi’s relationship with Shaukat develops into a genuine friendship. His presence becomes a refreshing cure for Pappu’s apathetic perception of life, the child’s ability for wonderment is reinvigorating for the frayed driver. Simultaneously, David and Kiran find in their parallel quest to find their son, a renewed hope in others. Receiving help from the least expected good Samaritans, they learn a lesson of trust and kindness. Lastly, the other intertwined drifter, Poonam, exemplifies self-respect and loyalty far beyond her age. Collectively the entire cast is effective at playing their respective piece of the puzzle.
This layered film proves that there are far more nuanced visions in the creative field of India that what Bollywood presents to the word. The characters are at a crossroads, physically and emotionally. At this crucial moment in their lives, their differences are irrelevant and they must walk together to seek a brighter future. Just as it is mentioned in Adi’s patriotic song, all of them form part of one multilayered but joined singular vision. Shot with entrancing luminosity The Good Road is a bracingly evocative collage of experiences connected by one road, this road is India.

H ighway is one of the twenty-three films selected for the co- production market of Film Bazaar 2013. We spoke to the director Umesh Kulkarni:
Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni
Tell us about your project. What language will it be in?
Highway is a story of a journey- a journey of several characters from different walks of life from one metro city to another. Like every real journey, it changes something within. People start coming out of their shells to experience freedom. It is an attempt to look at ourselves in today’s time. It’s not a straightforward narrative and we are trying to question our own way of looking at things. The different colourful characters one will see in the film will try to find unknown paths, which they have not travelled. One will hear different dialects of Marathi language with a little bit of Hindi, English, Gujarati, Sindhi, Telugu, Punjabi and Tamil.

There has been an ongoing debate over India's Oscar entry this year since the time The Good Road was selected as an Oscar nominee by the jury. And many of them even took on twitter to vent out their feelings. But The Good Road which is a social drama based on child prostitution in the interiors of Kutch is now facing an opposition from the Gujarati community too. Popular celebrities like producer Abhilash Ghoda and writer lyricist Vinay Dave aren't happy with the selection because of the concept of the film. While one feels that the film represents a false impression of Gujarat, the other feels that the language used in the film is very abusive. According to director Deepak Antani, such films should not be promoted by Nfdc or any other government organization. The Good Road stars Ajay Gehi, Sonali Kulkarni, Keval Katrodia, Shamji Dhana Kerasia and many others.

India’s entry for the Oscars has been decided, and it is debut filmmaker Gyan Correa’s The Good Road that has made it as an entry in the Best Foreign Film category. This National award winning Gujarati film about a small lost-and-found boy competed with films like The Lunchbox, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, English Vinglish, Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam and Malayalam film Celluloid.
Gautam Ghosh, chairman of the Oscar selection committee said that there were 22 entries from different parts of the country to be considered for this, like The Lunchbox and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag “The 19 member jury had a 5 hour long discussion and then finally decided to select The Good Road.
