When 1980’s Airplane! proved to be a massive hit, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of the year – up there with The Empire Strikes Back and Best Picture winner Kramer vs. Kramer – it was inevitable that it would get a sequel. But how often are comedy sequels good anyway? When have they ever really recaptured the magic and the laughter of the original? Well, Airplane II: The Sequel gave it a go…by basically being the same movie. Except this time around, Zaz wisely opted out, leaving the production without the strong leaders who reinvented the spoof genre. Instead, they got the guy who wrote Grease 2, one of the most notoriously awful sequels ever! So, strap in – no, not to an airplane but a space shuttle – as we find out: Wtf Happened to This Movie?!…The Sequel!

What would Hollywood be without a good ole Blaxploitation film? And now that “They Cloned Tyrone” has hit Netflix screens, conversations about the Blaxploitation movies that crawled so that “They Cloned Tyrone” could pimp walk have come to the forefront.
Juel Taylor’s film welcomes watchers to The Glen, a normal, everyday neighborhood where its predominately Black residents live out their lives shopping, going to church and enjoying the fruits of their labor. However, beneath the surface, but right in front of their eyes, the government is executing a plot to keep the community in an endless cycle of unhealthy behavior that ultimately blocks them from mental and financial wellness.
Like many Blaxploitation films, “They Cloned Tyrone” creatively calls out and highlights the systemic issues Black community faces while also celebrating Black culture and Black people’s perseverance.

For decades, the 1988 film Killer Klowns from Outer Space (watch it Here) was a little-known cult film that never got the sequel it deserved… and while it still hasn’t received the sequel it deserves, it’s clear that its cult following has gotten quite large. Spirit Halloween stores are packed with Killer Klowns items, a Killer Klowns haunted house was part of Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights, Trick or Treat Studios created Killer Klowns action figures, and there’s a video game on the way. Now Spirit Halloween has started taking orders for one of the most impressive collectible display items a die-hard Killer Klowns from Outer Space fan could get their hands on: a 6 foot cotton candy cocoon, complete with the face of a victim sticking out of the cotton candy!

Sharon Acker, the Canadian actress who portrayed Lee Marvin’s unfaithful wife in the 1967 neo-noir classic Point Blank and the right-hand woman Della Street opposite Monte Markham on a rebooted Perry Mason in the 1970s, has died. She was 87.
Acker died March 16 in a retirement home in her native Toronto, her daughter Kim Everest, a casting director, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Star Trek fans know Acker for her January 1969 turn as Odona, a desperate woman from an overpopulated planet, on the third-season episode “The Mark of Gideon.”
She also starred on a 1976-77 CBS adaptation of Executive Suite, playing the wife of Mitchell Ryan‘s Dan Walling. (Acker and Ryan assumed the parts performed by William Holden and June Allyson in the 1954 MGM film directed by Robert Wise.)

When your students are tanking their classes (if they attend at all) and dumping Fizzies tablets onto the varsity swim meet, you can't be a soft school administrator. That said, Dean Wormer would run Faber College more like Rikers if he had the opportunity. The gruff villain (played by John Vernon) is just one of the highlights of "National Lampoon's Animal House," John Landis' 1978 frat comedy, as the biggest authority standing in the way of Delta House's good time. The movie was penned by Harold Ramis, Douglas Kenney, and Chris Miller, pulling from their respective experiences in higher education. It was "National Lampoon Magazine" editor-in-chief and writer Kenney who came up with the Dean years before the movie, as the satirical "National Lampoon's High School Yearbook" featured Wormer as a civics teacher and coach. On the big screen, Wormer doesn't suffer fools or twerps, and he's as rigid about...

There have been many classic movie comedies over the years featuring Black stars, ranging from Eddie Murphy's Coming to America to Whoopi Goldberg's Sister Act. Those films are among the many that resonated with Black audiences even though they were directed by white filmmakers. Despite that, Hollywood has also had a long tradition of Black directors creating movies aimed specifically at Black audiences; trailblazer Oscar Micheaux, in fact, is regarded as the first major Black filmmaker, directing and producing more than 40 so-called "race films" between 1919 and 1948.
These days, as Hollywood executives increasingly come to realize the importance of Black directors telling Black stories, there's been an ever-growing number of Black directors engaging in big-screen filmmaking, a trend that has been evident not just in dramas but in comedies as well. In fact, some of the most beloved comedies with predominantly Black casts featured Black directors at the helm. For the full picture,...

Our friends at Bloody Disgusting were told, “This blood-pumping track pays homage to the original ‘Klown March’ recorded in 1987, while also adding darker, unexpected modern twists to its structure.”

Horror fans have Canada to thank for a lot of their favorite movies from the ‘70s and ‘80s. Black Christmas, Prom Night, Happy Birthday to Me, My Bloody Valentine — all these fright flicks and more were in fact made in Canada. And for a lot of these vintage movies, they were produced in the Great White North because of an enticing tax incentive. It was all part of a desire to fire up the country’s movie industry. And so long as these potential productions were chiefly shot and edited in Canada, as well as starred mostly Canadian actors, the movies’ costs were up to 100 tax deductible. Like those before him, producer Peter R. Simpson (Prom Night III: The Last Kiss) acted on this attractive business offer, though his timing could have been better. By the time Curtains came out in 1983, Canada’s most significant era of “B” movies was...

Back in 1988, the Chiodo Brothers brought us the cult classic horror comedy Killer Klowns from Outer Space (watch it Here) – and pretty much ever since, they have been hoping to get the chance to make a sequel to the film. A couple months ago, it was announced that a video game based on the 1988 cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space (watch it Here) will be released for PC, Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series, and Xbox One sometime in 2023. A trailer for the game can be seen in the embed above, and now the folks at IGN have shared a video that shows how closely the video game resembles the movie it’s based on. That video can be viewed at the bottom of this article.
When the announcement was made, it was said that the video game maps would be “inventive, but faithful recreations of iconic locations from the Killer Klowns from Outer Space movie.” The video below does a great job of showing just how faithful these location recreations are.
The Killer Klowns from Outer Space video game is a multiplayer, asymmetrical (3 vs 7) horror game that pits three Klowns against seven Humans.

It's a balmy summer evening, the stars are out, and something strange just dropped out of the sky and landed in the woods near your hometown. What should you do? Warn the sheriff, knowing he never really listens to punk kids like you anyway? Investigate and poke it with a stick? Or ignore it and carry on making out in the back of your Convertible?
All the above answers are viable and correct if you're a stock character in a B movie horror involving hostile visitors from outer space, who like parking up on the edge of a small town where the hicks are too dumb to realize what is going on until it's almost too late. The premise was a staple of the atomic-era science fiction of the 1950s, and many directors who grew up with fond memories of those movies made their own versions in the 1980s.

Grab your popcorn gun and balloon poodle because cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space is becoming a video game.
Next year, the Killer Klowns video game will come to PC, Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series, and Xbox One. Gamers can either play as one of the klowns hunting down townspeople or a Crescent Cove citizen fending off the circus freaks.
The Klowns featured are Jumbo, Shorty, Chubby, Spikey, and Rudy. The human characters are lumped into more generic characters of Teen, Biker, Cop, Punk, and Redneck. So no, you won’t be able to play this video game as Mike, Debbie or John Vernon. Weapons include various cotton candy guns. Here’s hoping we at least get to see Shorty knock a biker’s block off.

Unsuspecting comic book readers raised on the EC-inspired black and white horror magazines from Warren Publishing had no idea what to make of Heavy Metal when it debuted on American newsstands in 1977. We came to understand it was a domestic version of France’s wildly successful Metal Hurlant, and introduced us to European talents and storytelling. It was mind-blowing.
The magazine’s success led to an animated feature, released in the summer of 1981, heralded by the beautiful Chris Achilléos promotional poster image generic levitra , introducing us to Taarna, who has become the magazine’s unofficial mascot and most recognizable figure.
The film, like the magazine, was a series of animated shorts, an anthology of science fiction, and fantasy, with heavy dollops of violence, nudity, and heavy metal music. And like the magazine, it was beautiful to look at and occasionally made sense.

Kino Lorber has released a new DVD edition of John Wayne's late-career detective flick "Brannigan". The 1975 film takes Wayne out of the saddle and deposits him squarely in central London ("The Duke's in London. God Save the Queen!" read the tag line on the film poster.). The "fish-out--of-water" crime thriller concept began with Don Siegel's outstanding "Coogan's Bluff" (1968), which inspired Dennis Weaver's hit rip-off TV series "McCloud". Still, the premise works well with Wayne's tough Chicago Irish cop Jim Brannigan sent to London to extradite a top crime figure, much as Clint Eastwood's Coogan was shipped to New York to bring a criminal back to Arizona. In Andrew V. McLaglen’s “One More Train to Rob,” an obscure but modestly entertaining Western from 1971, train robber Harker Fleet (George Peppard) masterminds the armed theft of $40,000 from a Wells Fargo express. Thanks to his careful planning, he and his gang all have airtight alibis when the law comes calling. His partners Tim (John Vernon) and Katy (Diana Muldaur) posed as passengers on the train, and his other henchmen Slim, Red, and Jimmy were presumed asleep in their bunks at a nearby ranch. Checking on Fleet’s whereabouts during the holdup, the sheriff is assured by the town madam Louella that she and Harker were together in her bed all night. Louella is played by Marie Windsor, still plenty hot at fifty-two, if I may be excused a little ageism and sexism. The sheriff is ready to let Fleet off the hook,...

Now that Disney has regained screen rights to Marvel superheroes "X-Men", "Fantastic Four", "Wolverine" and "Deadpool" from 21st Century Fox, next on the list is recovering rights to Marvel Comics' "Namor: The Sub-Mariner" from Universal, paving the way for a big budget undersea adventure that could make DC's "Aquaman" look like 'Charlie The Tuna':
Plans fell through for a live action "Namor" TV series in the 1950's, starring Richard Egan, plus there was interest in a 1970's TV pilot that was scrubbed because of a similarity to the NBC series "Man from Atlantis" (1977), starring Patrick Duffy, that Marvel Comics licensed for publishing.
To date, Universal still controls screen rights to the "Hulk" and will only allow Marvel Studios to feature the character as part of an ensemble, rather than as the main character in a stand-alone film or TV series.

Happy 2021, everyone! It’s been a few weeks, but we’re back with a brand-new edition of our weekly Blu-ray and DVD releases column to kick off this new year. And while we may not have a ton of titles headed home on Tuesday, we do have an excellent bunch of films all the same, including one of my favorite films of 2020, Love and Monsters, which hits various formats this week. Another film from last year that I really enjoyed was Brea Grant’s 12 Hour Shift, which hits both Blu-ray and DVD (and will be available On Demand) tomorrow, and if you have somehow never seen it, I highly recommend picking up the new Blu for Savage Streets, featuring Linda Blair.
Other releases for January 5th include Tintorera… Tiger Shark, From the Depths, Nina of the Woods, and Hacksaw.

Lately when I cruise the video aisles looking for tasty horror to sample, I find myself yearning for something…simple. Nothing with a boatload of subtext or heavy lifting involved; no downers and certainly nothing in the pandemic family, thank you very much. That traipsing up and down the aisles led me to Blue Monkey (1987), a fun throwback to the ‘50s giant monster flicks that flooded the drive-ins whether the teens were watching them or their date.
Released in late September by International Spectrafilm, Blue Monkey was summarily dismissed by critics at the time as just another low-budget shocker, even by horror fans; yes, I passed on this when it came out because I didn’t have a clue what a blue monkey was.
But that’s okay, because as it turns out, the filmmakers didn’t either; one of the kids in the film utters that maybe they’ll...

Producer Rod Roddenberry ("Star Trek: Discovery") continues developing a remake of Gene Roddenberry's TV movie "The Questor Tapes", based on the novel by D.C. Fontana, about an android (Robert Foxworth) with incomplete memory tapes, who searches for his creator:
"...'Project Questor' is the brainchild of 'Emil Vaslovik', who develops plans to build a superhuman android with a team of the world's foremost experts. Attempts to decode the programming tape were unsuccessful, with approximately half of the tape erased.
"The team then decides to substitute their own programming, over the objections of 'Jerry Robinson' (Mike Farrell), the only team member who actually had worked with the mysterious inventor. But he is overruled by the head of the project, 'Geoffrey Darro' (John Vernon).
"When the android has been finished, the new tape is loaded, with no results. In desperation, Robinson persuades Darro to allow Vaslovik's tape — what remains of it — to be loaded.

Full disclosure: I’m not a cat guy. Sorry! Nothing against them, but I’ve always preferred the company of dogs. However, I’ve always admired a cat’s sense of self, and their stubborn refusal to do anything at all unless it’s on their own terms. According to The Uncanny (1977), that would also include murder, as these kitties claw and bite their way to vengeance, and leave it to Severin Films to give them a brand spanking new Blu-ray litter box to play in.
A co-production between Canada’s Cinévidéo and the UK’s The Rank Organisation, The Uncanny was shot in Quebec and England for less than a million dollars. One may presume that a solid portion of the film was spent on acquiring Donald Pleasence, Peter Cushing, Ray Milland, John Vernon, and Samantha Eggar for the wraparound and the three individual segments. Looking to add some scares to your viewing slate this summer? Severin Films has you covered (in blood) with their upcoming May Blu-ray releases that include The Uncanny, the wrestling horror movie Masked Mutilator, and Saint Bernard from writer, director, and makeup effects master Gabe Bartalos:
"This May, Severin Films is unleashing three visionary films that only the strongest viewers will be able to witness without losing their sanity. May 28th brings the long- awaited disc debut of the classic anthology horror The Uncanny, starring Peter Cushing & Ray Milland. May 14th sees the arrival of two brand-new, very different, outsider visions: FX guru Gabe Bartalos’ unhinged St. Bernard breaks down the barriers of good taste and Masked Mutilator splatters the blood of the wrestling ring all over Severin’s sub-label Intervision Picture Corp.
The Uncanny:
In 1977, legendary Amicus co-founder Milton Subotsky teamed with Canadian producer Claude Héroux for the anthology shocker CelluloidDiaries.

Secret agent Michael Caine must take on both the kidnappers of his son and his own suspect Army Intelligence colleagues in Don Siegel’s efficiently filmed, curiously tame suspense thriller. Delphine Seyrig is enticing and Donald Pleasance an unlikeable security bureaucrat, while the capable Janet Suzman and John Vernon fill out a top-flight cast that performs well in thriller surprisingly lacking in dramatic impact.

Had I not recently revisited Don Siegel’s dusty, nail-hard crime thriller Charley Varrick, in fact just the night before seeing Hou Hsiao-hsien’s Three Times, it stands to reason that I probably would not have found myself thinking about the Walter Matthau-starring crime thriller midway through the Taiwanese director’s film. After all, Siegel’s tale of morally ambivalent “heroes,” scabrous, misanthropic villains, and the various levels of grime and corruption to be waded through and scraped off on the way toward accidentally absconding with three-quarters of a million dollars in laundered mob money would seem to have little in common with Hou’s deliberately paced, exquisitely mounted collection of three love stories, each from a different time, each told in a manner most rewardingly compared to the elliptical style of a short story on the page.
And yet, as the first episode of Three Times, “A Time of Love,...

To date, Universal still controls screen rights to the "Hulk" and will only allow Marvel Studios to feature the character as part of an ensemble, rather than as the main character in a stand-alone film.
"I can't speak for the studios," said Marvel's Joe Quesada about...

Though they exist to entertain and make us laugh, there are few things people find scarier than clowns. Why that is, I cannot say; it’s a combination of the makeup, I think, and the fact that there is a person in there whose motivations for hiding under that makeup are unclear. As such, they have been a staple of the horror genre for close to 40 years, whether it’s Pennywise the Clown in Stephen King’s It (the novel and the two film adaptations) or the clown that attacks poor Robbie in Poltergeist or the undead clown in Zombieland or the spate of horror films from just the last few years all based around clowns: Stitches, Terrifier, Clown, and, most recently, Gags. While some may be scarier and they all vary in quality and degrees of success, there is no better clown horror movie than Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

“Killer Klowns…” first opened in 1988, and featured Grant Cramer, Suzanne Snyder, John Allen Nelson, and the iconic John Vernon (Dean Wormer from “Animal House”). The plot is your basic evil aliens who look like circus clowns, invading a small town to use humans as food. The film has gained “klassic kult” status, often used as an example of a pure cult movie. The Cinepocalypse screening will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary, and will...

Springboarding from a youth spent shooting their own movies on 8mm – the heartfelt intent and burning enthusiasm for which sometimes (but not always) rendered the made-for-pennies mini-epics amusingly watchable today – in 1987 the enterprising Chiodo brothers finally got to stage their first feature film production, which was released to decent acclaim in 1988. Produced and co-written by Charles, Edward and Stephen Chiodo, with the latter occupying the director’s chair, that film is every bit as bizarre as you’d expect of one bearing the title Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
The town of Crescent Cove is under assault by alien beings, which appear in the form of freakish clowns and whose spaceship adopts the facade of a circus tent. These aliens are abducting the populace and cocooning them in a flesh-eating substance resembling candyfloss. It’s up to local cop Dave Hansen (John Allen Nelson), clean-cut lad Mike...

What if... the movie screen rights to Marvel Comics' 'Atlantean' superhero "Namor: The Sub-Mariner" returned to Marvel from Universal, allowing a big budget "Sub-Mariner" undersea adventure that could make DC's "Aquaman" look like 'Charlie The Tuna'?:
"I can't speak for the studios," said Marvel's Joe Quesada about Disney recovering screen rights to Namor from Universal.
"But as far as I know, yeah we do (have screen rights). It’s not at Fox, it’s not at Sony...Yeah."
"Yes," confirmed Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige about Marvel controlling screen rights to Namor, "but it’s slightly more complicated than that."
"Let’s put it this way – there are entanglements that make it less easy.
"There are older contracts that still involve other parties that means we need to work things out before we move forward on it.
