Sister of Terry Carroll, who appeared with her in one film.

One daughter, Pat Kirkland (Patricia Kirkland Bevan, 1925-2000). She was married to playwright Donald Bevan, author of the play on which the film Stalag 17 (1953) was based.

One of her hobbies was painting.

The play in which she was starring when she unexpectedly died was "Never Too Late" at the Mineola Playhouse on Long Island (she didn't show up for the performance one night, and it turned out that she had died in her hotel room). She was playing the role of the pregnant wife created on Broadway and on screen by Maureen O'Sullivan.

King George VI, as Duke of York, was reported to be a big fan.

Never appeared in a film nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.
