Four meddling teenagers and a dog. From that simplest of premises, Joe Ruby and Ken Spears created an idea that has carried television series, live-action big-budget films, numerous animated movies, and countless parodies. So successful was Scooby-Doo that Hannah-Barbera launched several spin-offs, including Jabberjaw (teens and a talking whale) and Speed-Buggy (teens and a talking dune buggy). But there was something special about the alchemy Ruby and Spears derived for Scooby-Doo that made it stand the test of time. With its monster plots, Scooby-Doo became the ultimate introduction to horror for even the most timid kid.

A severe snowstorm couldn't keep Joseph Gordon-Levitt away from Cambridge, Massachusetts, Friday as he braved the elements to be feted and roasted by men in drag from the Hasty Pudding Theatricals for their 2016 Man of the Year award. Gordon-Levitt - the 50th recipient of the award presented annually by Harvard University's distinguished theater troupe - took the good-natured ribbing in stride, even as the evening's emcees poked fun at his Oscar snubs and less-than-stellar box-office returns. As you creeps well know, there is nothin’ I love more than a band that brings the arcane to their audio, and for my money, there is no one that is doing it with quite so much preternatural panache as Binghamton, NY’s Johnny Unheimlich! And what do ya know—look who just strolled into the Crypt o’ Xiii!
Famous Monsters. The sound of Johnny Unheimlich goes down as smooth as a glass of wine the color of a moonless midnight; it’s all cool creep with a hint of some undefined menace! How did you develop the sound?
Nick Ransom. First off, I’ve got to say thank you massively for that, it’s a huge compliment to both of us. My musical tastes have always been hugely eclectic—my parents are largely to blame or thank for that—and that’s factored hugely into what we play. Our...

Film makers wishing to explore the life of celebrated individuals can often be thwarted by the lack of material, particularly when said individual is a most private person who did not make themselves easily accessible. And often those closest, be they family or long-time friends “circle the wagons” around this potential cinematic subject. This may have been a big problem for the people behind this new film, a look at the all-too brief life of celebrated, but very private, writer David Foster Wallace. Fortunately access was granted via David Lipsky and his best seller “Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself”. But as you’ll see, this film is not the standard movie bio, not a “rags to riches”, birth to stardom tale. It’s the story of the friendship between the two Daves, struck up in just a few short days, specifically at The End Of The Tour.

Though many a "Twilight" fan-fiction reader (yes that's what "Fifty Shades of Grey" is) may flock to theaters come Valentine's Day weekend, actual bondage dabblers might be more excited about the VOD and Digital Hg release of 2002's indie film "Secretary" and this new trailer that comes along with it. "Secretary" stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, in one of her best performances, as a masochistic young woman who takes a job as a secretary for a Mr. E. Edward Grey, a lawyer with very particular interests, the original Mr. Grey, played brilliantly by James Spader. Arguments have been made that the plot of "Fifty Shades of Grey" borders on abuse and doesn't accurately depict a Bdsm relationship. Therefore it would behoove those who wish to take a peak into the world to instead check out this film, which is not only funny and sexy as hell, but incorporates the compassion, trust and...

It's been over 3-1/2 years since we first heard about Ramzi Abed's suspenseful and mind-bending film Telephone World, but now that it's being released in July by Cinema Epoch, we've hit the mother lode with new stills, artwork, trailer, and more!
The film, which was written and directed by Abed (The Devil's Muse, Noirland), stars Elissa Dowling (Dread), Chandler Maness (Orgy of Blood), Kara Hyatt (Noirland), Tamarah Murley (A Four-Course Meal), and Eric Fleming (The Devil's Muse).
It arrives on DVD July 22nd. Abed described it to us as "very creepy and unnerving, as well as sad and affecting."
Look for a review from Doctor Gash soon!
Synopsis:
It’s been a long time since a film has played with the notion of reality so much while also crafting an emotionally riveting suspense film, but that is exactly what Ramzi Abed’s newest feature film, Telephone World, is made to do.

The 2013 New York Asian Film Festival is well underway and that means it's time to check in with our resident interviewer for the fest, Diva Velez. First up is a chat with E J-yong, director of the 2010 Nyaff selected mockumentary Actresses. For his latest film E J-yong honed his sights square behind the camera, taking a stab at, well... himself, in this stupendous mockumentary of the very art form and industry that nourish him. And he directed it all remotely. Over Skype. The film's full title is: Behind The Camera: Why Mr. E Went To Hollywood. [ed. Revenge is a dish best served cold … and sometimes without even knowing what the entrée is. In Chop, Will Keenan stars as a man being tortured — both psychologically and physically — by a mysterious stranger (Timothy Muskatell) who claims Keenan wronged him in the past, despite Keenan’s insistence that he simply doesn’t remember the dude. With no apologies forthcoming, Keenan is ordered to first dispatch certain family members, then pieces of his own body in Trent Haaga’s bloody horror comedy.
Chop is Haaga’s directing debut and, made in 2011, still his only directing credit. Also an actor, Haaga first worked with Keenan on the set of a pair of Troma films, Terror Firmer and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV. They learned well under sensei Lloyd Kaufman with Chop being reasonably described as Troma-lite with a fun manic and absurdist tone with some fairly gory sequences.

We've been talking about Ramzi Abed's Telephone World for quite some time, and we now have the chance to see the first ten minutes, which are primarily in the form of the opening titles of the film with original music by The Bystanders. Abed promises the entire film will be premiering soon.
As he told us previously, "This project is drenched in suspense and is beyond voyeuristic also. It has things happen in it that I've never seen before ever, including the opening shot, which is of a camera being thrown and bounced down several blocks of Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, and the main body of the film, which was shot in one continuous live shot in one single take in multiple video formats. Not to mention some of the sound design created and being created by sound genius Borja Sau (Portland, Box of Shadows). It's chock full of surprises.

It was just about a year ago when we first heard about writer/director Ramzi Abed's latest project, Telephone World, and now we have an update for you along with the official teaser trailer.
Abed says that Telephone World is easily his best film. He continues, "I just locked picture, visual fx, and color-correction, and I can't believe it. Although the movie needs to get into its final audio sweetening, even with the first full rough sound mix... it's mind-blowing. Elissa Dowling (Abolition, The Theatre Bizarre, Dread) elicits a performance unrivaled by any other actor or actress I've seen in a movie ever. Yes, I said 'ever'. It should really and truly have people questioning what they are seeing. More so than any reality horror film before it, this project takes you into a world that is, for all intents and purposes, completely real. It's drenched in suspense and is beyond voyeuristic also.

In the world of experimental filmmaking, one name keeps popping up: indie auteur Ramzi Abed. Today Ramzi dropped us a line about yet another new project he's working on, Telephone World, which the writer/director describes as both intense and quite special.
Synopsis:
"People die. People get hurt. Life is always on the line."
It’s been a long time since a film has played with the notion of reality so much while also crafting an emotionally riveting suspense film, but that is exactly what Ramzi Abed’s newest feature film, Telephone World, is made to do.
Telephone World tells the story of Rachel Plasky (Elissa Dowling), who finds out she got the lead part in a new TV show called "Fairfax Girls". The main body of the film is shot in one continuous 80-minute shot. All of the action happens in one single take with real phone calls and answering messages occurring in real-time.

Ryan Nicholson of Plotdigger Films gave Fango the first look at the DVD cover art for his extreme gruefest Hanger (pictured), now set to hit disc November 17 from the new Breaking Glass company on their Vicious Circle genre label. He also informed us of his plans for an official release of his underground Internet flick Torched, and passed on the art for that one as well.
Hanger stars Nathan Dashwood, Dan Ellis and Fangoria Radio’s Debbie Rochon and centers on the revenge for a botched abortion meted out by the grown-up object of that operation; we previously revealed the specs for the DVD here. Torched, previously available only on bootleg or edited discs, is fully restored on Plotdigger’s DVD, which comes out Nov. 24. The bloody saga of a nurse giving fiery payback to those who raped her will be presented in 16x9-enhanced widescreen with Dolby 5.1 Surround and 2.0 stereo soundtracks,...

Pop Skull (review) will make its debut both on DVD and on Televandalism July 28, 2009. When we started putting together a feature for Frankie Latina's Directorial Debut, Modus Operandi, we were looking at it as a feature for our Gorezone® website. You see, Modus is one of those films that can't be limited to just one genre. Sure there's the prerequisite gore to bring it into Fango territory, but there's also elements of hardcore exploitation, violence, and some good-old-fashioned nudity. Plus, it won over Fango's Matt Molgaard, so we're bringing this feature to Fangoria.
At last month's CineVegas Festival, The Hollywood Reporter said that Modus Operandi was "one of the world premieres to make a splash." With a cast that includes bad-ass Danny Trejo (MacHete) and American Movie's Mark Borchardt, why shouldn't it?

Ramzi provided us with a slew of stills (click each slice below to see the full image) and a teaser that gives viewers a look at A Lot of the movie in a very, very short length of time. Two words that are near and dear to my heart are "metaphysical" and "psychedelic", and Ramzi Abed's new film In a Spiral State promises to be both. Along with drug-addled and mindbending. Who's making such proclamations? Who else but Halo-8 Entertainment, one of the few companies around that still manages to create and distribute daring new films.
And In a Spiral State, described as a meditation on Hollywood self-destruction, angelic interventions, and the string theory, sounds nothing if not daring. Here's a brief synopsis:
In a Spiral State portrays Los Angeles through the eyes of Daya (Ofri Fuchs), an angel who's become mesmerized by the city's interconnected yet utterly isolated inhabitants, particularly its struggling and flawed artists, frauds, drug addicts, and murderers. A second angel Gadi (Adam Meir) is unable to prevent Daya from interfering in their lives, as this empathetic angel is drawn into the frightening and twisted machinations of the city's underbelly.

One new movie I haven't heard much about until now is Ramzi Abed's The Devil's Muse, but that's all about to change. On September 30th Halo-8 Entertainment is releasing a deluxe two-disc set of the film. It'll be packed with goodies including a full-length soundtrack CD composed by David J (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets) and Ego Plum (Nicktoons' Making Fiends).
So, what's The Devil's Muse about? Halo-8 provided this summary:
When beautiful young actress Lisa Small (Kristen Kerr of David Lynch's Inland Empire) is cast as the tragic victim known as The Black Dahlia in a film about Hollywood's most famous unsolved murder, an entire dreamworld awakens around her. Meanwhile, a local sociopath has set out on a copycat murder spree timed out with the 60th anniversary of the original killing. A spider's web grows around Lisa as her nightmares and desires intersect with the death toll rising around her.
