The new Chicago Med episode made a joke about names early in the night.
A new travel nurse joked about having Dr. Asher and Dr. Archer on the same team.
That makes it more amusing that actress Amy Acker joined the show.
It was a busy day in the Emergency Department, and Dr. Archer was in charge after Dr. Lenox took a personal day.
The doctors were struggling. Archer was despondent after he learned that his ex-wife and mother to his son had died. Lenox was emotional because she had a terminal patient she was sitting with.
Archer then took it upon himself to track down the source of a heart donated to a 12-year-old patient. The young kid was convinced the previous owner wanted it out of him.
That led Dr. Archer to the door of Heather Williams (played by Amy Acker).

Joss Whedon hated every vampire show that came after his seminal work, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The reason, though it has some truth to it, will raise your eyebrow since it came from Whedon. The creator explained that the central female characters in works like Twilight and The Vampire Diaries had more of a passive role in their respective stories, unlike Buffy.
Whedon’s protagonist, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, was not just at the center of Buffy‘s plot, but she was also instrumental in driving it. She is a descendant of the Vampire Slayers, who battle vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness.

It’s been a long time since Dr. Archer has gotten the spotlight, and Chicago Med season 10, episode 17 quickly brings the moment he is deserved. The question is whether he can keep the Emergency Department under control while he acts as head as it’s understaffed?
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Chicago Med season 10, episode 17.
The episode opens with it being just a normal morning for Archer. He runs on the treadmill and eats his breakfast while watching the news. It seems too normal, and a phone call from his son reminds us that this is a drama. His son is in the hospital because his mom, Archer’s ex, went on “one of her benders” and ended up falling over.
It was too late for the doctors in the hospital to do anything, and Archer has to learn that his ex has died. While he certainly feels bad...

"Grey's Anatomy" has been on the air for a whopping two decades — it actually just celebrated its 20-year anniversary at the end of March 2025 — and in all that time, it's only produced one spin-off. After the long-running medical drama's third season concluded, Kate Walsh, who played Addison Montgomery on Shonda Rhimes' hit series, got her own series titled "Private Practice," which ran for 6 seasons between 2007 and 2013, but there hasn't been another major "Grey's" spin-off since that wrapped up. Apparently, Rhimes did have an idea for a spin-off that would have centered on one of the show's most prominent families.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly while she looked back at 20 years of "Grey's Anatomy," mega-producer Rhimes said she felt like they could have produced way more spin-offs. "On 'Grey's,' there were a bunch," Rhimes said, responding to a question about spin-offs that never actually materialized. "I felt like we could have done 'Chicago Anatomy,...

In the TV world, longevity goes hand in hand with spin-offs and offshoots. For Grey's Anatomy, which is now airing Season 21 with no signs of slowing, the medical drama series has spawned two spin-offs, namely Private Practice, and Station 19. Compared with other equally long-running franchises, two is a relatively small number — case in point, TV procedurals such as Chicago Fire, Law & Order, CSI, and the NCIS universes have birthed multiple more. However, this seemingly contained expansion was not due to a lack of creative ideas. Beyond the two Grey's Anatomy spin-offs that made it to screens, several others never materialized, and it was a deliberate creative choice, as now revealed by its original creator, Shonda Rhimes.
During her recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, where she reflected on the success of her Shondaland production over the last two decades, Rhimes revealed that she hatched a couple of spin-off ideas that fans never got to see.

Before decamping to Netflix, Shonda Rhimes considered creating a spinoff for ABC hit “Scandal” focusing on Eli Pope (Joe Morton) and additional spinoffs for “Grey’s Anatomy,” including one that would have revolved around Derek Shepherd’s (Patrick Dempsey) four sisters.
Rhimes even contemplated setting “Grey’s” affiliate series in shows like Boston and Chicago, but ultimately decided against it.
“I felt like we could have done ‘Chicago Anatomy,’ Boston. We could have done that. It just didn’t appeal to me to rebuild the same world,” she told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Thursday.
“I thought that there could be a spinoff with Amelia [Caterina Scorsone] that was [about] the Shepherd sisters,” she says. “They’re all doctors. It could have been a Shepherd sisters show, which would’ve been very interesting,” Rhimes continued. The spinoff would have brought back previously introduced sister Nancy (Embeth Davidtz), Kathleen (Amy Acker) and...

Zachary Levi is reflecting on why it was more important to be candid about his support for Donald Trump than worry about his career.
While on SiriusXM’s The Megyn Kelly Show, the Shazam! actor recalled being asked by Tulsi Gabbard to moderate a town hall that she and Robert Kennedy Jr. were doing in support of Trump. Despite initially feeling hesitant to do so, Levi said he “felt peace” after doing it.
“I felt peace because I knew that this was more important than saving my career,” he told Kelly. “I think we too often fall into these paradigms, these thought processes of self-preservation, and it is not good. We need to be wise and we want to survive and we want to live and flourish and all those things, but we can’t merely make decisions off of ‘Well I hope nothing bad happens to me.’ You got to sacrifice.

‘Average Joe’ (2024) tells the inspiring true story of a high school football coach who fought for his right to publicly express his religious beliefs, leading to a landmark Supreme Court case. Directed by Harold Cronk, known for the ‘God’s Not Dead’ franchise, the film presents a compelling legal drama through a faith-based lens. The narrative follows Joe’s journey, from his time as a Marine to the pivotal moment when his post-game prayers ignited national debate. The debate surrounding religious freedom has simmered in recent years, with passionate viewpoints on both sides of the line. With his latest film Average Joe, director Harold Cronk takes on this controversial topic, telling the based-on-a-true-story tale of a coach standing up for his beliefs.
Joe Kennedy serves as head coach for the local high school football team. After overcoming difficulties in his past, he feels called to express his faith on the field in a small daily act—kneeling in prayer at midfield after each game. But not all see it that way. The administration argues it could pressure players, ordering Joe to cease the practice.
When he refuses to pray privately instead, events are set in motion that will carry the case all the way to the Supreme Court. As criticism mounts from both the community and his wife facing backlash at work, Joe’s commitment to his promise is tested.

What do we want from a spinoff? More time with a favorite supporting character, as with Frasier or Better Call Saul? An expansion of a compelling mythos, as with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine or House of the Dragon? Or perhaps a deeper exploration of some potent themes, as with Rugrats offshoot All Grown Up?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff Angel fulfilled all of those criteria and more.
Premiering in 1999, with its first four seasons running concurrently with Buffy, Angel’s eponymous hero was a reformed vampire, the ex-lover of his parent show’s titular Slayer. The spinoff imported several other characters from Buffy, transplanting them from the small town milieu of Sunnydale to the sinister sprawl of Los Angeles, a darker, more complex setting where demons and vampires rubbed shoulders with high powered lawyers and politicians. It occupied an interesting position in the cultural landscape, airing alongside shows like...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer isn’t just one of the greatest drama shows of all time but a groundbreaking example of fantasy worldbuilding that inspired a vast universe of spinoffs from other storytellers. While the seven-season run of Joss Whedon’s coming-of-age fantasy series had its critical high and low points, the spinoff series Angel took the franchise in a much darker direction. Ditching the adolescent humor and “monster of the week” style premise for a much more disturbing analysis of the cyclical nature of evil, Angel often challenged its viewers by presenting more devastating stakes. Although the show’s mature tone meant that not every fan-favorite character survived the series, Amy Acker’s Winifred Burkle was revived in one of the most compelling storylines in the Angel comic book spinoff.

Harvey dated a few women before marrying Donna, but his primary focus on Suits was his corporate battles with Mike. Suits delved into character dynamics by exploring personal lives, showing Harvey's struggle with emotional closeness. The show introduced romantic interests like Zoe, Esther, and Paula to showcase different facets of Harvey's character.
Before marrying Donna, Harvey had several girlfriends in Suits, and one was even supposed to be the person he would originally end up with. Suits' primary appeal was its office drama, so Harvey and Mike's relationship was the series' focal point in its early years. In an attempt to diversify its storytelling and develop character dynamics, Suits explored the personal lives of characters. This offered those who weren't fans of the corporate law aspect of the USA Network project something else to be invested in.
Part of ensuring that its characters are fully fleshed out was taking a peek at their personal lives.

Ordinary Angels, starring Hilary Swank, tells the true story of redemption, sacrifice, and hope in Kentucky. The uplifting biographical drama stars two-time Oscar-winner Hilary Swank as Sharon Stevens, a troubled hairdresser in Kentucky who leads a gallant effort to save a little girl's life during a severe snowstorm. For anyone worried that Ordinary Angels looks too narrowly faith-based, fret not. But for those looking for a story that reminds us of the power of faith, you're also in for a treat here. The new drama from director Jon Gunn (The Case for Christ) offers a lovely balance and walks a fine line.
It's only rated PG, but that shouldn't deter hardcore film buffs who might be in the mood for a tearjerker of a story. There's currently a billboard on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles that reads something to the effect of, "Binge One Day Alone So You Can Ugly Cry in Peace." The hit Netflix series will certainly bring tears to your eyes, and it has that in common with the heart-wrenching Ordinary Angels. Starring Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank and Reacher star Alan Ritchson, Ordinary Angels is impactful, well-acted, and avoids cheesiness for the most part.

As the news gets darker and more depressing, a triumphant “against the odds” inspired by true events underdog story may be just the cure for the late Winter doldrums. And that’s exactly what this week’s new movie promises…and pretty much delivers. It’s an ode to the “help your neighbor” spirit of small-town America (not that it’s completely absent in the bustling cities). Plus there’s a bit of spirituality (right in the title) along with some folks overcoming their own personal struggles. And as a bonus, this marks a most welcome return of an actress to the big screen, in a wide release, after earning a second Oscar almost twenty years ago. In a new “real-life” role this extraordinary actress becomes the leader of a group of Ordinary Angels.
The film’s story doesn’t start with her, though. Instead, we’re in the hospital...

Alan Ritchson plays Ed in Ordinary Angels, and his journey as a father will tug at your heartstrings & inspire. Ritchson's emotional portrayal will bring tears to your eyes and showcases his diverse acting skills. The Reacher star says that working with Hilary Swank in this true story was a privilege and a rewarding experience.
Alan Ritchson fans perhaps know him best as the titular hero in Reacher, which is returning for a third season on Prime Video. Review: When I first saw the trailer for Ordinary Angels, I wrote it off without a second thought as another faith-based drama designed to tug at the heartstrings and reinforce the unlimited power of God. In recent years, there has been a surge in movies like this; few have risen above the minimal viable bar for them to be considered watchable by mainstream audiences. With a true story centered on everyday people pulling off extraordinary feats, “Ordinary Angels” can’t help but embrace the sentimentality at its core. It’s baked into its DNA, and is the reason why this compelling, heartstring-pulling drama made it to the big screen 30 years after taking place — in a time when we too are searching for light in a bleak world. Yet what lifts the picture beyond average inspirational fluff is the way director Jon Gunn and company control the slow release of its sweetness so as not to overpower. This technique, though forgivably manipulative, works to grand effect and, by the end, even cynics will be won over by the human kindness on display.

‘Ordinary Angels’ Review: Hilary Swank’s Passionate Performance Drives True Faith Based Family Drama

Lionsgate’s collaboration with faith based movie producers Kingdom Story Company has reaped boxoffice rewards for both, and with their latest, Ordinary Angels, the inspiring true story of a small Kentucky town that comes together in a historic snowstorm in order to transport a 3-year-old girl to an Omaha hospital for a life-saving liver transplant, they have another surefire heartfelt film tailor-made for audiences looking for a little uplift. This actually would have made a perfect Christmas season release but has been delayed for several months, now opening in the same February corridor where Kingdom’s surprise hit, Jesus Revolution did well last year. Midwest crowds will especially respond to a never-say-never tale that is about bringing people together, not tearing them apart in this age of division.

Ritchson cherishes action but seeks diverse roles to evolve as an artist, Ordinary Angels being a challenging and rewarding project. Harvey's relationships on Suits were often doomed from the start, including his ill-fated relationship with his former therapist and his messy affair with his colleague's sister. "I have to make it! This is our last chance. If we don't take it, Michelle dies!" Lionsgate has debuted a new trailer for Ordinary Angels, a religious drama based on a real medical emergency and struggling family. Arriving in theaters nationwide starting this October, sticking with this date despite the ongoing strikes in Hollywood. Inspired by the true story of a hairdresser who single-handedly rallies an entire community to help a widowed father save the life of his critically ill daughter who desperately needs a liver transplant. "Faith can make the impossible possible," is the tagline. This is leaning heavy on the religious side of the story, which means they will get the attention of many faithful Americans. The movie stars Hilary Swank as Sharon Steves, with Alan Ritchson, Nancy Travis, Tamala Jones, & Amy Acker, plus Skywalker Hughes and Emily Mitchell as the kids. This is as cheesy as they come!

Freeform's scripted roster just took a hit.
The cable network has canceled Single Drunk Female and The Watchful Eye, according to Deadline.
Even worse: all episodes of both series are being removed from Hulu today, meaning that they'll only be available to purchase via iTunes and Amazon.
Single Drunk Female Season 1 was a massive hit for Freeform and Hulu, where it garnered strong viewership on streaming, but the buzz seemingly faded by the time Single Drunk Female Season 2 debuted earlier this year.
The second season launched in April and picked up with Sam a year and a half into her sobriety journey and finally feeling "like she has a life worth celebrating," the logline states.
"However, Sam quickly learns that sometimes life has other plans for her."
"Sam must figure out how to effect change where she can, sit in her discomfort when she can't, and maybe even enjoy the ride.
