Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 17 sees Steven Weber taking the spotlight as Dr. Dean Archer while Luigi Sottile and Amy Acker serve as notable guest stars. 

In "The Book of Archer," the One Chicago medical drama series on NBC focuses on Dr. Archer as he is tasked to take over as Chief of the Emergency Department of Gaffney for one day after Dr. Lenox takes personal time off. 

As he deals with an understaffed team, Dr. Archer must navigate the ups and downs while keeping it together after learning about a tragic death.

A new travel nurse joked about having Dr. Asher and Dr. Archer on the same team.

That makes it more amusing that actress Amy Acker joined the show.

It was a busy day in the Emergency Department, and Dr. Archer was in charge after Dr. Lenox took a personal day.

The doctors were struggling. Archer was despondent after he learned that his ex-wife and mother to his son had died. Lenox was emotional because she had a terminal patient she was sitting with.

Archer then took it upon himself to track down the source of a heart donated to a 12-year-old patient. The young kid was convinced the previous owner wanted it out of him.

That led Dr. Archer to the door of Heather Williams (played by Amy Acker).

It’s been a long time since Dr. Archer has gotten the spotlight, and Chicago Med season 10, episode 17 quickly brings the moment he is deserved. The question is whether he can keep the Emergency Department under control while he acts as head as it’s understaffed?

The episode opens with it being just a normal morning for Archer. He runs on the treadmill and eats his breakfast while watching the news. It seems too normal, and a phone call from his son reminds us that this is a drama. His son is in the hospital because his mom, Archer’s ex, went on “one of her benders” and ended up falling over.

"Grey's Anatomy" has been on the air for a whopping two decades — it actually just celebrated its 20-year anniversary at the end of March 2025 — and in all that time, it's only produced one spin-off. After the long-running medical drama's third season concluded, Kate Walsh, who played Addison Montgomery on Shonda Rhimes' hit series, got her own series titled "Private Practice," which ran for 6 seasons between 2007 and 2013, but there hasn't been another major "Grey's" spin-off since that wrapped up. Apparently, Rhimes did have an idea for a spin-off that would have centered on one of the show's most prominent families.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly while she looked back at 20 years of "Grey's Anatomy," mega-producer Rhimes said she felt like they could have produced way more spin-offs. "On 'Grey's,' there were a bunch," Rhimes said, responding to a question about spin-offs that never actually materialized. "I felt like we could have done 'Chicago Anatomy,...

In the TV world, longevity goes hand in hand with spin-offs and offshoots. For Grey's Anatomy, which is now airing Season 21 with no signs of slowing, the medical drama series has spawned two spin-offs, namely Private Practice, and Station 19. Compared with other equally long-running franchises, two is a relatively small number — case in point, TV procedurals such as Chicago Fire, Law & Order, CSI, and the NCIS universes have birthed multiple more. However, this seemingly contained expansion was not due to a lack of creative ideas. Beyond the two Grey's Anatomy spin-offs that made it to screens, several others never materialized, and it was a deliberate creative choice, as now revealed by its original creator, Shonda Rhimes.

During her recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, where she reflected on the success of her Shondaland production over the last two decades, Rhimes revealed that she hatched a couple of spin-off ideas that fans never got to see.

Before decamping to Netflix, Shonda Rhimes considered creating a spinoff for ABC hit “Scandal” focusing on Eli Pope (Joe Morton) and additional spinoffs for “Grey’s Anatomy,” including one that would have revolved around Derek Shepherd’s (Patrick Dempsey) four sisters.

Rhimes even contemplated setting “Grey’s” affiliate series in shows like Boston and Chicago, but ultimately decided against it.

“I felt like we could have done ‘Chicago Anatomy,’ Boston. We could have done that. It just didn’t appeal to me to rebuild the same world,” she told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Thursday.

“I thought that there could be a spinoff with Amelia [Caterina Scorsone] that was [about] the Shepherd sisters,” she says. “They’re all doctors. It could have been a Shepherd sisters show, which would’ve been very interesting,” Rhimes continued. Based on a remarkable true story, the movie centres on Sharon (Hilary Swank), a fierce but struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky who discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed (Alan Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters. With his youngest daughter waiting for a liver transplant, Sharon sets her mind to helping the family and will move mountains to do it. What unfolds is the inspiring tale of faith, everyday miracles, and ordinary angels.

For anyone worried that Ordinary Angels looks too narrowly faith-based, fret not. But for those looking for a story that reminds us of the power of faith, you're also in for a treat here. The new drama from director Jon Gunn (The Case for Christ) offers a lovely balance and walks a fine line.

It's only rated PG, but that shouldn't deter hardcore film buffs who might be in the mood for a tearjerker of a story. There's currently a billboard on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles that reads something to the effect of, "Binge One Day Alone So You Can Ugly Cry in Peace." The hit Netflix series will certainly bring tears to your eyes, and it has that in common with the heart-wrenching Ordinary Angels​​​​​​. Freeform's scripted roster just took a hit.

The cable network has canceled Single Drunk Female and The Watchful Eye, according to Deadline.

Even worse: all episodes of both series are being removed from Hulu today, meaning that they'll only be available to purchase via iTunes and Amazon.

Single Drunk Female Season 1 was a massive hit for Freeform and Hulu, where it garnered strong viewership on streaming, but the buzz seemingly faded by the time Single Drunk Female Season 2 debuted earlier this year.

The second season launched in April and picked up with Sam a year and a half into her sobriety journey and finally feeling "like she has a life worth celebrating," the logline states.

"However, Sam quickly learns that sometimes life has other plans for her."

"Sam must figure out how to effect change where she can, sit in her discomfort when she can't, and maybe even enjoy the ride.
