Barry Jenkins in Talks to Direct Glen Powell in Sci-Fi Thriller ‘The Natural Order’
Image
Oscar winner Barry Jenkins looks to have found his next film — a new sci-fi thriller starring Glen Powell.

The project, titled “The Natural Order,” comes from an unpublished manuscript by Matthew Aldrich (“Coco”), and revolves around the pursuit of eternal life.

Universal preemptively landed the rights to the original pitch, with Jenkins in talks to direct. Jenkins and Aldrich are attached to adapt the screenplay from an unpublished manuscript written by Aldrich (which will be his first novel).

The project aligns two of 2024’s biggest box office drivers: Jenkins is fresh from helming “Mufasa: The Lion King” for Disney, which went on to become the seventh biggest release of the year globally, grossing more than $700 million. Meanwhile, Powell enjoyed back-to-back theatrical wins with the Sony rom-com “Anyone but You” and Universal’s “Twisters,” and earned a Golden Globe and WGA nomination for Netflix’s “Hit Man.”

By June 2019, Netflix brought on Matthew Aldrich, co-writer of ‘Coco,’ to oversee the creative direction of the adaptations. Then, in July 2023, Greta Gerwig was announced as the writer and director for at least two ‘Narnia’ movies.

Now Puck news reports Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos has approved a groundbreaking deal to release Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ movie in IMAX theaters before it streams on Netflix. It will debut on 1,000 IMAX screens globally on Thanksgiving Day 2026.

DC Studios’ ‘Clayface’ Gets 2026 Release Date
Image
DC Studios will release “Clayface” on Sept. 11, 2026, the company announced on Friday.

The script was written by Mike Flanagan. The film will be produced by Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris.

Additionally, from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, the original animated feature “Dynamic Duo” will be released June 30, 2028, in Imax. The animated film will explore how Dick Grayson and Jason Todd became the Robins. Arthur Mintz is directing from a script by Matthew Aldrich, with Theresa Andersson, Reeves and Harris producing.

Known as one of Batman’s most unique villains in his rogues gallery, Clayface was originally introduced in the vintage DC Comics as Basil Karlo, a horror movie actor who went mad. He later gained the ability to shape-shift and transform his body into any form by turning himself into living clay.

The character recently made an appearance over the summer on the Reeves-exec produced “Batman: The Caped...

DC Studios Dates ‘Clayface’ For Fall 2026; Animated ‘Dynamic Duo’ For 2028
Image
Signs that Warner Bros DC Studios is very serious about its standalone Clayface movie even though it doesn’t have a director or star yet: The studio is given the movie written by Mike Flanagan a Sept. 11, 2026 theatrical release. That’s the famed post Labor Day gold mine weekend for Warner Bros with such movies as the It, The Nun and Beetlejuice franchises.

Producing is DC co-bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran as well as The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris. EP is Chantal Nong. Doctor Sleep filmmaker Flanagan is reportedly conceiving Clayface as a horror-thriller-tragedy. He won’t be painted as a villain which has been his reputation, notoriously a villain to Batman.

Clayface got his DC introduction as part of Detective Comics #40 in June of 1940. The original Clayface was a moderately successful actor who adopted the identity of a character he’d portrayed in a horror pic after turning to crime.

Netflix's Chronicles Of Narnia Movies Might Get Unprecedented Theatrical Release By Streamer After Renewed Pressure From Greta Gerwig Pressure & Margot Robbie Deal Failure
Image
After various high-profile disagreements and failed deals, Netflix may be set to break away from past strategies and give Greta Gerwig's The Chronicles of Narnia movie adaptation a more substantial theatrical release. After acquiring the complete rights to C.S. Lewis's fantasy novel series in an unprecedented deal in 2018, Gerwig officially signed on to write and direct at least two movies in the streamer's Chronicles of Narnia series. While Coco's Matthew Aldrich has been brought on board to help pen the outline for the series, it is currently unknown which novel Gerwig will adapt first.

With Netflix having failed to secure the rights to Emerald Fennell and Margot Robbie's Wuthering Heights adaptation after Warner Bros. acquired the production, Variety reports that the situation may have led to another highly-anticipated project to reorganize its distribution strategy. Sources suggest that Greta's current status in Hollywood and the Wuthering Heights...

Dynamic Duo: New Details About The Animated Movie's Plot Have Been Revealed
Image
Yesterday evening, the news broke that DC Studios is teaming up with Swaybox Studios for Dynamic Duo, an animated movie revolving around Robin and Robin: Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.

Given the unique animation style being planned for the project, it feels like it could be every bit as special as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. At the same time, many fans would prefer to see Dick and Jason in a live-action project.

One reveal that jumped out in the initial report was the mention that the teenagers are "orphan thieves [and] best friends who share dreams of a better life."

Well, Variety has since chimed in and revealed, "[Dyamic Duo] will depict how the friendship between Grayson and Todd as youths becomes tested by their diverging ideas for what their future should be. (Reports that the characters will begin as a pair of thieves in the film were false.)"

While that's a relief,...

Animated Robin Origin Story Movie in Development from Warner Bros. and DC Films

Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are developing “Dynamic Duos,” a theatrical animated film featuring Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, who have both taken up the mantle of Batman’s sidekick Robin.

DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn announced the project on his Instagram page, noting that it will be the first joint project between DC and WB Animation. Also onboard for the project is Swaybox, a New Orleans-based animation studio that combines CGI, stop-motion and live-action techniques.

Arthur Mintz, who co-founded Swaybox with his wife Theresa Andersson, will direct the project from a script by “Coco” co-writer Matthew Aldrich.

In DC Comics history, Jason Todd joined the “Batman” mythos as a new Robin to take the place of Dick Grayson, who had left Batman’s side to lead the Teen Titans. In this film, Dick and Jason will both be Robins, training to defend Gotham side-by-side alongside Batman.

James Gunn Announces Dynamic Duo Animated DC Movie
Image
James Gunn has surprised everyone by announcing the first theatrically released animated film by DC Studios. Dynamic Duo will center on two different heroes who have adopted the alias of Robin in DC Comics. Gunn revealed on X/Twitter that DC Studios and Warner Bros Pictures Animation has greenlit the new movie, which will be putting the spotlight on one of the most famous sidekicks in comic book history.

Robin is one of the most important parts of Batman's history, having been part of the comics before even Joker or Catwoman. Yet, ever since 1997's Batman & Robin, most live-action Batman adaptations have ignored the character entirely. It appears, though, that James Gunn is looking to put not just one but two Robins back into the franchise, the original Robin, Dick Grayson, and Jason Todd, who later takes on the identity.

Animated Robin Origin Story ‘Dynamic Duo’ Set at DC Studios, Featuring Dick Grayson and Jason Todd

DC Studios is getting together the Dynamic Duo — just not the one you might expect.

Ahead of the debut of DC’s animated Max series “Creature Commandos,” the studio is mounting its first animated feature project, “Dynamic Duo,” with Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. Image
Well, this could be fun. Deadline reports that DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation are developing Dynamic Duo, an origin movie which follows the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, two characters who held the mantle of Robin. The project will use a technology called Momo Animation, which is said to be a cross between stop-motion puppetry, CGI animation, and live-action real-time performance. I’m intrigued. It’s said that the technique is “visually breathtaking, dynamically expressive, and more human.“

Dynamic Duo will be made by Swaybox, a new animation studio set up by Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson. The film “follows the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd aka the Robins. The duo call themselves the Dynamic Duo. They’re orphan thieves, best friends who share dreams of a better life, but their friendship will be tested by competing visions of a future out...

The Robins’ Origin Story ‘Dynamic Duo’ In The Works With DC Studios, Wbpa & 6th & Idaho; Movie To Be Made With Puppetry Animation
Image
Exclusive: Here’s a really cool project that just got greenlit at DC Studios and Warner Bros Pictures Animation: Dynamic Duo.

It will mark the first joint project between DC Studios and the Bill Damaschke-led Wbpa.

The 6th & Idaho movie scripted by Matthew Aldrich is being made by a new animation studio out of New Orleans named Swaybox and that studio’s husband-and-wife creators Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson. Mintz will direct this movie, which follows the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd aka the Robins.

Note the storyline here isn’t connected to Matt Reeves’ Batman and The Penguin canon.

Swaybox uses a technology known as “Momo animation,” which is a cross between CGI animation, practical elements of stop-motion, and live-action real-time performance. The result is long-form storytelling billed as visually breathtaking, dynamically expressive and more human.

Greta Gerwig’s First ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ Movie Could Begin Filming in August!
Image
C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia is one of the most beloved children’s series and one of the best-known fantasy works in the history of literature. The stories of the Pevensie family and their friends and allies in the fictional world of Narnia are spread through seven books, starting with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1950) and ending with The Last Battle (1956). The series is Lewis’ best-known work even today and while most people have been acquainted with it through the books, there are some who snuck into the world of Narnia via the film adaptations from several years ago.

Three movies were adapted back then and while there were plans to adapt The Silver Chair as well, these failed and in 2018, it was announced that Netflix had acquired the rights to adapt the series in movie and television series format. As things stand now, the first...

Netflix's Chronicles of Narnia Reboot: Director, Release Date & Everything We Know
Image
Netflix Chronicles of Narnia news continues to pour in as the streaming giant is finally making its own movies based on C.S. Lewis' popular fantasy series. After Disney's big-budget film adaptations of Narnia slowly lost steam, Netflix bought the rights to the franchise wholesale in 2018. The Netflix Chronicles of Narnia series promises to be a new take on the books and is not likely to be related to the earlier films. C.S. Lewis wrote and published The Chronicles of Narnia books in the early to mid-1950s, and they quickly became some of the most popular children's books of all time, drawing comparisons to The Lord of the Rings.

Netflix's purchase of the rights to the series in 2018 for their own Chronicles of Narnia reboot is the first time that any single company has held the rights to all the books at once. Netflix won't have any restrictions on...

Prequels, sequels, and spin-offs are all the major studios seem to be cranking out lately, and now it’s Pixar’s turn. This time we get Lightyear, the film that Andy saw in 1995, the one that made him fall in love with Buzz Lightyear and want nothing more than a Buzz toy for his birthday. I may be wrong, but I’m not sure there’s much here to inspire any child to want a Buzz Lightyear toy, Andy should have just stuck to Woody.

We open with Buzz Lightyear, Space Ranger, as he lands on a new undiscovered planet with his Space Ranger partner, Alisha Hawthorne,...

‘Lightyear’ Transforms a Pixar O.G. From Action Figure to Disney Action Hero

He was the delusional do-gooder that made up one half of Pixar’s O.G. dynamic duo, the Toy Story space cadet with the square chin, a savior complex and an unstoppable quest to rid the galaxy of the evil Emperor Zurg. His name was Buzz Lightyear, defender of decency and good dentistry throughout the cosmos, and thanks to his chemistry with a cowpoke named Woody, this popular (and highly merchandisable) plastic-fantastic hero became an interstellar superstar. He’s more recognizable as a brand ambassador than Pixar’s signature animated desk lamp,...

Everything We Know So Far About Netflix’s Chronicles Of Narnia
Image
Children of the 2000s may have grown up with the three live-action movies produced between 2005-2008 and anyone of any generation may have read C.S. Lewis’ classic novels as a kid, but a new version of The Chronicles of Narnia is on the way. Netflix acquired the rights to adapt the seven fantasy books back in 2018 and immediately announced their plans to create new TV series and films based on the world of Narnia.

So, what have we learned about the company’s intentions for the franchise since then? Well, honestly, not much, as it appears the streaming giant is taking its time in building up a massive shared universe before they start putting anything into production. Our last update came in June 2019, when Coco co-writer Matthew Aldrich was named as architect and overseer of all projects. Narnia fans have examined the evidence, though, and come up with some...

The Chronicles Of Narnia Producer Hopes Netflix’s Reboot Is A TV Series
Image
Out of all the potential literary franchises that started appearing with increasing regularity to try and cash in on the success of The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter during the early years of the 21st Century, it appeared for a while as though The Chronicles of Narnia was one of the few destined for any sort of continued success.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was a huge hit, becoming one of the highest-grossing movies of 2005 after raking in $745 million at the box office, but despite spawning two sequels, the adaptations of C.S. Lewis’ fantasy series never managed to recapture those heights. Both Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader earned over $300 million less than the opening installment, and any plans for further adventures in Narnia were ultimately shelved.

An attempt was made to get The Silver Chair in front of cameras, with Captain America: The First Avenger...
