1978 cast a long shadow in the world of horror. From Dawn of the Dead to Halloween, the landscape was abundant with everything from the socially relevant to the singularly terrifying, from superior remakes (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) to quirky haunted houses (The Evil). And then there’s the red headed stepchild that no one talks about: Brian DePalma’s The Fury. Frenetic, action packed, and gruesome, The Fury never gets the love from even most DePalma fanatics. What a shame – it’s never less than entertaining, and at its best showcases the director’s mesmerizing visual touch.
Released in March by Twentieth Century Fox, The Fury made $24 million against its $5.5 million budget. That’s good green, folks, and DePalma received favorable reviews, still basking in a critical glow left over from his previous effort, Carrie (’76). So why is it so easily dismissed, ranked along the lines of efforts like Wise Guys,...

Watching countless hours of telly can make you feel like you know the settings of your favourite shows like the back of your hand.
Have you ever wanted to redesign your house or flat to make it look as close to Monica and Rachel's apartment in Friends or Sherlock's bachelor pad as possible? Well, these amazing floorplans might be a start.
Click on each picture to see a full-size version.
1. Friends: Monica, Rachel, Joey and Chandler's apartments
Considering Monica's apartment was a "frigging steal", this shows just how amazing her New York pad is. It's certainly more spacious than Joey's across the hall, but when you've got comfy armchairs and foosball, who cares? Plus, we all know it's Monica's mess that fills up the ? room.
2. The Big Bang Theory: Sheldon, Leonard and Penny's apartments
As expected, everything is neatly organised to fit Sheldon's standards, and there is plenty...

Need I remind you, Seinfeld lovers? Festivus is your heritage. It’s part of who you are. It’s December 23rd — time to go dig the bare aluminum pole out of the crawl space and air your grievances to family and friends before challenging them to the Feats of Strength tonight!
Relive Frank Costanza’s holiday tradition and help me Rain Blows against all of the parties who have wronged us this year, below.
Today I issue grievances against the following:
Ben and Jerry’s Festivus-flavored ice cream for no longer existing.
The word “chihuahua” for being something I will always have to look up.

Tell us about the films you've seen in the past few days – and read what our critics made of them
See any good films over the weekend? Or bad ones for that matter? Whether you went to the cinema, watched movies on TV, or even visited what used to be known as the video shop, we'd like to hear about your recent viewing in the comments thread below.
Here's what our critics had to say about recent releases:
Sightseers
Peter Bradshaw said: The chilling and transgressive flourishes are carried off with deadpan confidence; it's a distinctive and brutally unsettling piece of work. Read more
The Hunt
Philip French said: In John Patrick Shanley's marvellous 2008 film Doubt, we are never absolutely certain whether Philip Seymour Hoffman's popular, humane New York priest is a paedophile or Meryl Streep's vindictive nun is merely motivated by envy … Vinterberg eschews such ambiguity.

Comedies don't come much darker than this chillingly distinctive caravan caper from the makers of Kill List
Sightseers is the macabre and violent black comedy of English manners that premiered this year in the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes film festival, and when I first saw it, I think I might have got out of bed the right side – putting me in a bland and placid mood, and unreceptive to all the film's bizarre qualities. I wrote that it did not have the originality and unclassifiability of director Ben Wheatley's previous film Kill List, and at times looked like an extended character-comedy sketch. While these things are still true, a second viewing has further revealed just how superb are the effortless performances of Steve Oram and Alice Lowe, who are the movie's writers (working with Wheatley's longtime co-writer Amy Jump), and whose creative ownership makes a purely auteurist comparison...

Where is the line between caring and becoming too emotionally involved? When does being impulsive turn into being a hot head. "Gimme Shelter" had me asking these questions as I watched Kate Reed deal with a curve ball she didn't expect.
In last week's episode, Kate was all about doing what was best for her client but this week her emotional involvement cost her. She made stupid, impulsive decisions that put Eddie's interests at risk.
That the shooting made Kate angry was to be expected. I wasn't even fazed when she ran around pounding on doors and yelling at drug dealers.
The bigger problem came when they went to court. Instead of helping Ben with the case she hindered it. She's an attorney. She knew better than to yell at their opponent in the middle of court. Her ridiculous outburst helped prove Travis' case, that Kate was a hot head who couldn't be trusted.

As Bridesmaids arrives in UK this week, Glen looks at the finest songs in its producer Judd Apatow's other hit comedies...
Judd Apatow is a dominant force in the world of movie comedies, with his work as producer and director seeing great successes over the course of his career. With the upcoming UK release of Bridesmaids, which is produced by Apatow, I thought now would be an ideal time to look at some of my favourite musical moments from the films he's been involved with.
Step Brothers: Boats ‘N Hoes
Huff 'N Doback /Prestige Worldwide (written by Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly)
This isn’t the first time that either Step Brothers or Ferrell and Reilly will be appearing in this list. It’s a film that I have a lot of love for, and one of the few to leave me unable to breathe for laughing...

Pasadena - Forget the AFI Top 10 list of Best TV shows. Why should care about TV since they are the American Film Institute? This is kind like the American Diabetic Prevention Society’s Top 10 Favorite Sugary Candy Bars list. Or Bravo’s Top 10 Hunting Shows. Or Madd’s Best 10 Drinks to Mess You Up. Or Charlie Sheen’s Top 10 Things You Can Do Without Involving Hookers and Blow. If they care about TV that much, shouldn’t they be the Aftvi? But they are a pack of List Whores over at AFI with their 100 Years a 100 Stupid Lists press releases.
Why does critic or critic group have to tell you the Best or Worst of the Year? Party Favors is proud to announce the Meh Awards for the 10 TV shows that didn’t work for me in 2010. They weren’t the most pathetic things on TV, but made me lose interest in watching them.
