"Family Guy" is one of the most successful adult animated comedies of all time, following the suburban Griffin family through all kinds of wacky misadventures, and its creator Seth MacFarlane has ended up with an extensive career in comedy as a result. Once upon a time, however, he was just a writer working his way up through the ranks, learning how to put together a good cartoon comedy script. While on his way up, he worked on a beloved Cartoon Network series that would have an impact on not only MacFarlane's career but also affect how he made "Family Guy," and it was all about a lady-crazed himbo with a penchant for talking like an Elvis impersonator. That's right, before MacFarlane created hits like "Family Guy" and "American Dad!," he was a writer on the Cartoon Network classic "Johnny Bravo."

When two Japanese anime characters form a duo, those characters either complete one another or challenge each other, and there is always a sense of co-dependency. In a trio, however, there are ongoing tensions, a strong sense of competition, and rivalry that can also become jealousy, making the whole group much more interesting. However, many of the most iconic trios, such as Jesse, James and Meowth and Winry, Alphonse and Edward, have an underlying current of true care.
There are many iconic trios in the anime world, some composed entirely of villains, others of heroes, and some a mix of the two. Some trios are strong and determined main characters; others feature shy and quiet protagonists; still others are made of remarkable side characters. All these trios have one thing in common: they make the story unique and truly memorable.

The idea of a "Saturday morning cartoon" has long been defunct, with DVR and streaming meaning that people are rarely bound to watch the latest episode of a favored TV show at any particular time. Yet some of the best animated TV shows of all time, decidedly from the post-Saturday morning cartoon era, capture the aura of these cartoons of old. They are classically animated in 2D, mostly feel-good, very episodic, and primarily made for younger audiences.
There are options from the best animated Disney TV shows to the best animated fantasy shows that selectively nailed the feeling of a classic cartoon, on par with the greats of the Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo. For those missing the best Saturday morning cartoons of all time, possibly enjoying them now on streaming, various networks and services have fresh new offerings. Disney is often celebrated around the world for its wide catalog of films, making it one of the most iconic production companies ever formed. From traditional fairy tales to moving modern adventures, these films have stayed with fans for a lifetime. Now, with the advent of streaming platforms like Disney +, fans can continue sharing their favorite animated movies with the next generation.
But before streaming, Disney often had to fight for prime real estate at the box office, meaning that some projects got pushed aside. Thus, a lot of sequels and spin-offs were released direct-to-video. Although these films are wrongly accused of being flops, Disney proves that sometimes, these movies are much better than the original.

For three decades the story of stone creatures come to life has both entertained and fascinated viewers. Originally airing on a program block associated with light hearted children’s entertainment showed that animation could be much more than just “kids stuff”. Let us revisit the mysterious and enchanted world of Disney’s Gargoyles.
Created by producer Greg Wiseman, the series stood out against its contemporaries at the Disney Afternoon program block. Unlike other shows focused on gags and slapstick comedy, Gargoyles took a darker and more episodic approach similar to Batman: The Animated Series, which aired around the same time.

Although its series finale originally aired on Starz back in 2017, Black Sails is still regarded as one of the best pirate shows of all time. Filled with complex characters and high production values, the show avoids common pitfalls of the genre like overindulging in sex and violence. Set during the Golden Age of Piracy, the series serves as a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic Treasure Island.
Black Sails tells the swashbuckling tale of Captain Flint and his crew as they fight for the survival of New Providence Island. Weaving real-life characters like Anne Bonny and Blackbeard into the fictional narrative gave a boost to the show's appeal. Fortunately, there is no shortage of great pirate shows for viewers who have finished Black Sails.

For every DC fan who has been introduced to Batman, his foes, and Gotham City via Batman: The Animated Series, Mark Hamill will always be the preferred Joker. Although the actor is famously known for his onscreen performance as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, fans still believe his way of striking the essential balance between crazy and scary was beyond comparison.

New AI-generated art transforms Johnny Bravo character into live-action, capturing his iconic appearance. A live-action adaptation of Johnny Bravo is unlikely to happen, considering past failures with Cartoon Network series. Warner Bros. had plans for a live-action Johnny Bravo movie with Dwayne Johnson, but the project was likely shelved.
Johnny Bravo characters get transformed into live-action in new art. Aired from 1997 to 2004, the classic Cartoon Network show created by Van Partible follows the misadventures of the titular dimwitted egomaniac who, loosely based on Elvis Presley and James Dean, lives with his mother and gravely overestimates his own masculinity and supposed success with women. The show's voice cast includes Jeff Bennett as Johnny Bravo, Brenda Vaccaro as Momma Bravo, and Mae Whitman as Little Suzy.

Disney Xd's Guardians of the Galaxy animated series falls short of expectations with repetitive storylines and odd animation choices. Unlike James Gunn's live-action franchise, the animation's mix of vintage music and childish humor doesn't quite hit the mark. While the series shines with quirky character moments and positive messages, it ultimately ranks low among Marvel animated shows.

Van Partible's animated series "Johnny Bravo" debuted on the Cartoon Network on July 14, 1997. It was one of four new shows that Cartoon Network premiered in 1997 and 1998 that served as a declaration for a new creator-forward direction the network was taking. "Johnny Bravo" debuted alongside Genndy Tartakovsky's "Dexter's Laboratory," David Feiss' "Cow and Chicken," and Craig McCracken's "The Powerpuff Girls." In 1999, that lineup would be complemented by "Ed, Edd n Eddy," and "Courage the Cowardly Dog." These shows were all quirky and idiosyncratic and attracted a generation of fans.

Anime has become a global medium over the years. Anime series are exported and shown in hundreds of countries, and anime characters like Goku, Naruto, and Sailor Moon are some of the most instantly recognizable fictional characters ever created. Because of this, many international and American creatives have a deep love of the medium and have naturally absorbed elements of the anime style into their own over the years.
Because of this, animation history is full of shows with a distinct anime vibe due to their visual or storytelling styles, despite not being anime in the traditional sense. Western cartoons with an anime vibe are perfect for anime fans looking for something new to enjoy after having exhausted their options on dedicated anime streaming platforms.

After taking a look back at House II: The Second Story (a favorite of mine since childhood), House of 1000 Corpses (which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year), the awesomeness of Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, the leg smashing in the Stephen King adaptation Misery, and three separate moments from John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China, JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek is continuing his The Best Scene video series with a look at a scene from an entry in my favorite horror franchise, Friday the 13th. The film Lance is talking about today is Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (watch it Here), and the section he’s focusing on is the entire climactic sequence in which iconic slasher Jason Voorhees gets knocked around by the telekinetic abilities of heroine Tina. Mutants are gradually being worked into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and according to Cosmic Circus, the site that says the Midnight Sons might soon be appearing in the MCU, Marvel is looking at X-Men: The Animated Series, which ran on Fox Kids Network for five seasons from 1992 to 1997, as a major reference point as they figure out how to add the X-Men to their franchise. As Cosmic Circus noted, the influence of the animated series can be seen in the appearances of Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Dr. Hank McCoy in The Marvels – as well as (to some degree) Wolverine in next year’s Deadpool 3. Since Marvel has such respect for the animated series, it’s no surprise that they’re also reviving it with a continuation series titled X-Men ’97, which is expected to start streaming on Disney+ sometime soon. On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: It’s Christmas at the Castle… and the Wood Axe is Jewish!
No one ever remembers the part of “Beauty and the Beast” where Belle nearly drowns because a Christmas tree falls into a lake, do they?
As a daughter of the ‘90s, Disney’s turn-of-the-century Princess Renaissance was my childhood. Bedsheets, pajamas, school supplies, toys, and anything else that furnished my little life was frequently themed to honor Jasmine, Ariel, Mulan, Pocahontas, or Belle: a squadron of girl-power role models that, all things considered, weren’t too shabby in retrospect.
