It begins when all of Earth’s gay males, and two straight men dressed in drag because there was a mix-up in their Halloween costumes, are abducted to the distant planet Judy (named after Judy Garland), the gay haven world of the universe, where they will live in freedom without oppression.
Inadvertently kidnapped, bumbling information technology specialists Mitch (Hendrie) and Lenny (Rudnick) find themselves on an exotic world of constant partying, mingling and cuddling, all run by the Golden Ram Man (Mariano), a mad tyrant who abhors insubordination and seeded grapes.

This season, Fox has moved Raising Hope to Friday nights. Will the sitcom be cancelled or will it be one of those shows that does well enough to be renewed? Is it safe because of syndication profits? We shall see.

Given its consistently low ratings, it's somewhat astounding that "Raising Hope" managed to get four often terrific seasons on Fox. It's still sad to report that "Raising Hope" will have its series finale on Friday, April 4 with an hour-long send-off. "On behalf of myself, Greg Garcia and 'Raising Hope's' amazing cast and crew, I would like to thank our audience for tuning in and supporting us over the last four seasons," blurbs executive producer Mike Mariano, who took over as showrunner for Garcia this season. "We planned our Season Four finale with this possibility in mind, and hope our loyal fans enjoy the way we’ve chosen to say goodbye to the Chances and to Natesville. Thanks again, and we’ll see you in syndication." Often aired in erratic patterns with lengthy hiatuses, doubled-up episodes and early finales, "Raising Hope" will still hit 88 episodes by its finale. During its run,...

Fox announced today that "Raising Hope" is set to end its four-season run with a special one-hour farewell event Friday, April 4 at 9pm Et/Pt. "Raising Hope," created by Greg Garcia ("The Millers," "My Name is Earl") premiered in the fall of 2010. Starring Emmy Award winners Martha Plimpton and Cloris Leachman, Garret Dillahunt, Lucas Neff, Shannon Woodward and Gregg Binkley, the series follows a lovingly dysfunctional family as they raise an adorable yet unexpected addition to the family - a little girl named Hope (Rylie & Baylie Cregut). In 2011, Martha Plimpton and Cloris Leachman were both nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards for their leading (Plimpton) and guest (Leachman) roles on the show. The series finale kicks off with the...

"Raising Hope" is expanding its extended family for Season 4.
"Saturday Night Live" veteran Molly Shannon is set for a recurring role on the Fox comedy, Deadline reports. The actress will be taking on the role of Maxime, the new owner of Howdy's, the grocery store where Jimmy and Sabrina work. There are scant other details surrounding the role, though we imagine she'll be a superb antagonistic force for Gregg Binkley's Barney. She'll be making her first appearance in episode four.
Shannon is racking up roles left and right, as she's also been tapped for an arc in the upcoming HBO series "Getting On." In the U.S. version of the award-winning BBC Four medical comedy, the actress will play Phyllis Sullivan, who's described as "a sweet, slightly discombobulated soul -- at the end of her rope -- who is giving too much of herself up in caring for children,...

The season finale of "Raising Hope" will feature twice as much Cloris Leachman as usual.
The multiple Emmy winner gets to play opposite herself in the hour-long finale, which airs Thursday (March 28), following "American Idol." When Burt (Garret Dillahunt) and Barney (Gregg Binkley) travel to Maw Maw's (Leachman) childhood home, they discover her mother might still be alive.
The reunion between mother and daughter, as Fox has teased in promos and you can see in the below video -- exclusive to Zap2it -- is not the happiest one you'll ever witness.
Leachman says it was her idea that Maw Maw should have a living mother, and then creator Greg Garcia's brainstorm to have her play both roles. Dillahunt calls it a "Milchian bit of casting," referring to the fact that he played two different parts (at different times in the show's run) on David Milch's HBO series "Deadwood.

When we spoke with Garret Dillahunt back in 2010, Raising Hope (TV) was just getting off the ground. Now, almost two years later, the show is a bonafied success. Thanks to a great writing staff and a stellar cast that also includes Martha Plimpton, Lucas Neff, Cloris Leachman, Shannon Marie Woodward and Gregg Binkley, the show received two Emmy nominations in it's first season and a nod from TV Guide who called it "A treat for anyone who loves a good call-back to classic sit-coms." Garret has played a pivotal part in the show's success as Hope's grandfather Burt Chance. His humorously quirky portrayal of Burt (opposite Plimpton's Virginia Chance) has captured the hearts (and laughs) of America as they tune in each week to see what zany antics await the Chance family. During his hiatus from the show, Garret has set out to do what he loves best...diversify. He...

Katy Perry has landed a role in "Raising Hope". The "E.T." hitmaker took to Twitter on Wednesday, February 22 to show a picture of her fictional character named Rikki. She posted the image along with a message which read, "I hope I don't get type-cast."
In the Twitpic, Perry is seen channeling her inner prison attendant. Wearing a red, wild curly wig, the 27-year-old singer looks menacing in her office uniform. She stands next to Shannon Woodward's Sabrina, who dons an orange jail jumpsuit.
In a recent interview, Perry revealed how she got the role. "Shannon Woodward is my best friend," she said. "A couple weeks ago, I was home, just toasting up a frozen chicken fillet when she called me up and asked if I wanted to do something 'fun' for a change and try out a guest role on her TV show. I thought, 'Sure, I have nothing else to do,...

Chicago – One of the nice twists of the Fox sitcom “Raising Hope,” is that it doesn’t so much rely on the cute baby named Hope, preferring to focus on the strange people who are in charge of “nurturing” her upbringing. The wackiness continues for a second season starting September 20th on Fox.
Television Rating: 4.0/5.0
It is not the strongest of second season beginnings, but it still manages to rise above the average by essentially creating dysfunctional situations managed by less-than-normal and funny characters. Returning is Jimmy, Virginia, Burt and Maw Maw Chance, caring for Jimmy’s surprise love child Hope, and they continue to get it blessedly wrong, which turns the family comedy upside down.
In case you’re wondering about the origins of the story, Hope is shown at her daycare in the beginning of season two, at a facility that is for dogs. The hippie-esque caregiver conveniently...

Talk about odd timing! Just days after reports surfaced that Katie Couric would exit her CBS Evening News post, rumors of a similar variety began to swirl about her Today successor, Meredith Vieira.

A source says that while “NBC is doing everything they can to convince her to stay,” the early morning hours have become too demanding on Vieira and her family, and she’s simply ready to move on. Michael Landes is set to co-star on CBS' untitled Peter Knight comedy pilot, a workplace ensemble about the young-adult employees at a high-powered venture capital firm. Landes will play one of the employees, Andrew, a handsome, cocky and annoyingly smart full-fledged workaholic. Landes, repped by CAA and Untitled, recently completed Lumpy, The Congress and 11:11:11 and did a two-month run in David Mamet’s play House Of Cards at the Almeida theater. Beth Lacke has been cast as a regular on ABC's comedy pilot Work It. The multicamera project, from Andrew Reich and Ted Cohen, is about out-of-work car salesmen Lee (Ben Koldyke) and Angel (Amaury Nolasco), who realize that it is a woman's world and decide that to find work again and succeed, they must dress as women to get jobs as pharmaceutical reps. Lacke, repped by Innovative and Sanders.Armstrong.Caserta, will play Lee's hardworking wife, a nurse.

Jimmy asks Sabrina, "What's Thursday?"
It's Thanksgiving Day, a time for family to gather around for dinner. This gives Jimmy the idea to start a family tradition for Hope, by inviting Hope's other grandparents to Thanksgiving dinner.
Virginia is against the idea just because their daughter Lucy was a serial killer. Jimmy has made up his mind and goes to invite them anyway.
Well. It turns out that they are more disfunctional than the Chances. There is Dr. Dale, who is a psychologist (Greg Germann) and Margine (Valerie MaHaffey) who is still coping with Lucy issues. Dale explains that he is also her therapist.
Meanwhile, Maw Maw is in one of her phases. She ruined the dinner because it reminded her of working food services at Woolworths back in the 1940s. Out of desperation, Jimmy calls his boss Barney (Gregg Binkley) to let him get what he need at the grocery store.

This week: Will There Be a Third Another Gay Movie? How great is Martha Plimpton? Was Quantum Leap controversial? What was up with the effeminate villain on The Powerpuff Girls?
Have a question about gay male entertainment? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)
Q: I’m excited by the new show Raising Hope, mostly because it stars Martha Plimpton, who I think has never gotten her due, and also because it’s created by Greg Garcia, who was responsible for the fantastic My Name is Earl (which also never got its due!). Are my expectations too high? Is there anything gay in it? – Ryan, Albuquerque, Nm
Martha Plimpton
A: Interestingly, Martha Plimpton once sat with her back up against mine in a restaurant booth, along with then-boyfriend, the late River Phoenix, and also Keanu Reeves, who were both just as popular as they could possibly be.

We conference with "My Name is Earl" star Jason Lee as well as creator-writer-executive producer Gregory Thomas Garcia. Since premiering on September 20th, 2005, "Earl" has carved out a hefty fan base with a fun cast including Ethan Suplee, Jaime Pressley, Nadine Velasquez, Eddie Steeples, Trey Carlisle, Louis T. Moyle, Noah Crawford, Gregg Binkley and Dale Dickey. Jason Lee takes on the character of "Earl" with ease, falling naturally into the much-loved character. He's asked about whether the show inspired him to go back and right some wrongs and working with guest star Seth Green. Greg Garcia talks about the season's themes including one of episode with a theme of motherhood and more.
