There’s a perfect world in which Richard Linklater’s Hit Man, a through-and-through crowdpleaser suffused with wit and style, gets a theatrical release and is this summer’s runaway hit, fueling the fire for however many collaborations the director wants with Glen Powell and Adria Arjona. This is, instead, our horrible world wherein Netflix will give the film a small theatrical play starting May 24 before it comes to their service on June 7 like whatever gets left out at the buffet. In this case, there’s a new trailer.
Here’s the synopsis: “From Academy Award-nominated writer/director Richard Linklater, co-written and starring Glen Powell alongside Adria Arjona, comes Hit Man. Inspired by an unbelievable true story, a hit man meets his match in a client who steals his heart and ignites a powder keg of deception, delight, and mixed-up identities.”

Bigfoots or Sasquatches, these creatures that straddle the line between man and beast are a captivating blend of mystery and fascination. Picture cavemen of colossal stature, untouched by the need to shave their skin. That’s your typical bigfoot. These enigmatic beings have also found their way into the spotlight of cinema, becoming iconic movie stars in their own right.
While they may have fewer film representations than their arctic counterparts, the yeti, Bigfoot has left an indelible mark on Hollywood. Whether these creatures were scene stealers or the main attraction, the Sasquatch has carved a unique place in cinema history. Each character brings a distinct perspective to the mythos, from the terrifying and elusive family of beasts in the newly released Sasquatch Sunset to the misunderstood and gentle Mr. Link. They know how to bust a move, look for their own, and fly! Yes, fly.

We’re leaving Las Vegas.
CinemaCon 2024 is over — time for studios to go out and prove their pitches at the box office. Based on what we saw, or really what we didn’t see, that will be an uphill battle.
First, let’s take a moment to appreciate the folks and films that showed up. Arguably, the biggest star to attend CinemaCon was Kevin Costner. The cynical point of view? He was pitching not one but two “Horizon” films to theater owners — and simultaneously pitching third and fourth installments to Warner Bros. Plus, Costner received a trophy (the CinemaCon Visionary Award), for which WB execs shooed him offstage just to call him back up. Kinda silly. Speaking of WB execs and no-shows, if David Zaslav was in town, he didn’t come on stage.
Jeff Goldblum did, as did his fellow “Wicked” co-stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Michelle Yeoh.

Children of the '90s were a different breed, thriving on all that was scary and traumatizing, from late-night series like Tales from the Crypt to horror books like Goosebumps.
What we survived back then, we now relinquish to new generations thirty years later. Some may say we're twisted parents because we pass our torment on to our children.
But trauma builds character, and Lawd knows today's kids need plenty of that. A small dose of fear and caution never hurt anyone. They can be useful life skills that can keep you out of trouble.

Exclusive: UTA has signed popular comedy band Wolves of Glendale for representation in all areas.
Founded in 2022, and boasting a sizable following on social media, the band consists of Ethan Edenburg on guitar, Eric Jackowitz on drums and Tom McGovern on keys. They got their start when McGovern moved west, after a long stint playing piano bars in New York, and linked up with Edenburg and Jackowitz, who were searching for the missing piece in their trio. Over the past few years, one Hollywood mystery has been how the video game adaptation Borderlands managed to attract such a stacked A-list cast led by Cate Blanchett, given its raunchy, violent nature. At CinemaCon on Wednesday, director Eli Roth said the key to landing Blanchett, whom he said he decided to call on a whim, was not thinking she’d take the role.
“People love seeing you with a conductor stick, and I’m going to throw a flame thrower in her hand,” he recalled telling Blanchett, referencing her acclaimed work in Tár. To his surprise, Blanchett said the apocalyptic feature Escape From New York was among her favorite movies, and she was glad to join the project. From there, the rest fell into place.
Blanchett stars as Lilith, the leader of a crew of outlaws on a mission to retrieve treasure from a vault hidden on the planet.

Even Eli Roth can’t believe that two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett was willing to learn to twirl guns and shoot baddies in “Borderlands,” the director’s gonzo adaptation of the popular video game.
Roth noted that since people loved seeing Blanchett wield a baton in “Tár,” where she portrayed a fictional world-famous conductor embroiled in controversy, the filmmaker said he might as well “put a flamethrower in her hand.”
In “Borderlands,” Blanchett sports a fiery red bob and is surrounded by the starry ensemble of Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black and “Barbie” breakout Ariana Greenblatt. The story follows Blanchett as Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past. She reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora and forms an unexpected alliance to find the missing daughter of Atlas.

"Borderlands" is one of the most popular video game franchises of the 2000s. Now, it's becoming a movie, with Lionsgate hoping to turn it into a franchise for the big screen. Directed by Eli Roth, this video game adaptation has been in the works for a long, long time, but it's finally hitting theaters this summer. That being the case, the studio brought some new footage from the film to this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and I was on hand to see what Roth cooked up.
One thing the movie has going for it is a stellar A-list cast led by Cate Blanchett ("Thor: Ragnarok") as Lilith. The ensemble also includes Jack Black ("The Super Mario Bros. Movie"), Kevin Hart ("Lift"), Jamie Lee Curtis ("Halloween"), Ariana Greenblatt ("Barbie"), Florian Munteanu ("Creed II"), and Edgar Ramirez ("Yes Day"). Fill the cannons with stuffed animals and watch the fluff fly as Eli Roth’s Borderlands takes the Lionsgate stage at CinemaCon! The annual entertainment event is in full swing after yesterday’s Warner Bros. panel and reveal of Todd Phillips’s Joker: Folie à Deux trailer. DreamWorks Animation has the best animated franchises, delivering consistently good, theatrically-released franchises that are unique within the animation landscape. One of their best ones is "Kung Fu Panda," a franchise with some of the best fight sequences in animation, and one of the few instances where an all-star stunt voice cast isn't detrimental to the films' quality.
Even if "Kung Fu Panda 4" doesn't reach the heights of the first two films, it still isn't without redeeming qualities. As our own Ethan Anderton wrote in his review for /Film, "This movie still has plenty of ways to entertain, from the eye-popping animated action sequences to Jack Black's pitch-perfect portrayal of Po, not to mention a stellar score from composer Hans Zimmer and his composing partner and collaborator, Steve Mazzaro."
This is a fun movie with a fantastic cast led by Jack Black and Awkwafina, starting what could be a new trilogy in the franchise.

Borderlands Sees Cate Blanchett Channel Escape From New York: ‘It’s Her Favourite Movie’ – Exclusive
It’s not like Cate Blanchett has been averse to blockbuster fare entirely – after all, her career skyrocketed when she played the ethereal Elven queen Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings trilogy, and she battled Indiana Jones in The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. But generally, Blanchett is known for her deep-dive character work – like playing Lydia Tár in TÁR, or Jasmine in Blue Jasmine, or Carol in… well, Carol. Next up, though, she’s cutting loose and blasting into action in Eli Roth’s long-awaited adaptation of sci-fi action video game Borderlands (notably not playing a character called ‘Borderlands’).
As the central Lilith, Blanchett will engage in balletic and bombastic setpieces – a register which chimes with her personal film taste as much as those character dramas. “She loves Escape From New York,” Roth tells Empire. “It’s her favourite movie. But nobody would know that because...

More specifically, he’s tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace. That poses a couple of obvious problems. First, Po knows as much about spiritual leadership as he does about the paleo diet, and second, he needs to quickly find and train a new Dragon Warrior before he can assume his new lofty position.

For all the ways "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" differ, they're surprisingly similar when it comes to the birds and the bees. Many of the heroes in both franchises prioritize their causes over the pursuit of sexual pleasure, be it peacekeeping and scientific exploration as a Starfleet officer or diplomacy and fighting against the forces of fascism as a member of either the Rebel Alliance or the Republic (if not both in some cases). By the same token, members of the Old Jedi Order were forbidden from developing emotional attachments, although the man behind "Star Wars" itself, George Lucas, has said that Jedi Knights weren't required to be "celibate."
It's a good thing, too; Luke Skywalker definitely got around in the non-canon "Star Wars" Expanded Universe (aka Legends), and Mark Hamill has confirmed that so far as he's concerned, the son of Skywalker absolutely put his ... lightsaber to work.

Robert Downey Jr. plays Australian actor Kirk Lazarus in his Oscar-nominated role in Tropic Thunder. Downey Jr.’s Lazarus takes the extreme step in Method acting and undergoes pigmentation alteration surgery to play an African-American man. The role was clearly a satire that mocked the extreme lengths some actors were willing to go to for a role. Downey Jr.’s co-star in the film, Danny McBride, revealed how the actor stayed in character the whole time.

Downey Jr.’s portrayal in the film received criticism for donning Blackface, but his acting in the film was praised by many. He was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar that year, which he lost to Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight.

Frank Herbert’s sci-fi epic Dune laid the foundation for many other stories that followed, thanks to the world’s scope and the political intrigue between its various houses. The kind of impact that it has had on pop culture can be seen in numerous forms of media, such as the iconic A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Tropic Thunder is one of those meta-films that have a lot going on right under the surface. With a cast of actors who were really committed to the bit of the film, including Robert Downey Jr. Downey was deep in his character for the time the film was being filmed, and nothing shows that more than the particular song that he made up for doing his business.

While many of us know how the story goes, here’s a quick recap for those who may have forgotten: After debuting on The Tonight Show in June 2009, Conan O’Brien was abruptly ousted from his dream job after being on air for a brief seven months. He was unceremoniously replaced by Jay Leno in January 2010 (which Rolling Stone likened at the time as the comedy-world equivalent of being jilted at the altar for a Jersey Shore cast member) and hasn’t set foot on the NBC franchise’s stage since.

Movie-goers will know that we’ve had a surge of video-game and toy-based films in recent years, most of which have done good. There’s The Lego Movie, the new Super Mario animated film, Barbie, and more… and Minecraft, one of the most popular games in history, is slated to become the most recent addition to this list. The movie has been announced a while ago and is set for an April 4, 2025 release, and we have finally seen some shots from the filming, which is now in process.
The movie is filmed in New Zealand, as far as it is known, and while it was originally slated to start in 2023, the SAG-AFTRA strike postponed the production of the movie and while it had begun by mid-January 2024, the delays are obvious. Still, based on the release date, there will be enough time to make the movie properly.

Remember the days of waiting for months, sometimes even a year, to watch a blockbuster movie at home? Well, that tradition seems to be fading fast.
Take Kung Fu Panda 4, for example. The film just came out in theaters this month, but guess what? It’s already going to be available for streaming in April (a mere month after its theatrical debut)!

If there is a discussion about a sequel rightfully living up to its predecessor, it would be a sin not to mention Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar Games provided a perfect example of how a sequel or follow-up to original games can exceed expectations.

At their best, films aimed at young kids can be enjoyed by adults as well and truly earn the "family movie" title. 2023 brought plenty of titles that fit the bill, from box office hits like "The Super Mario Bros. Now it's 2024's turn to show us what it's got, and while the early months of the year tend to be pretty dry when it comes to family movies, as studios are holding them back for school vacations and long summer days, there are some fresh, funny, and heartwarming new releases on offer. From a new "Peanuts" special to a fantasy movie filled with dragon-related perils to the latest high-flying antics of "Kung Fu Panda," here are the best family movies of 2024 so far.

The lead pair make a brilliant double act, but the franchise has run out of its signature sweetness and charm
The cuddly kung fu master is back. Jack Black returns as dumpling-loving panda Po, the unlikeliest of lean, mean fightin’ machines. It’s been eight years since Kung Fu Panda 3, and on the evidence here, the delay can’t be put down to KFP4 being a labour of love, the product of animation studio DreamWorks’ A team pouring in enormous amounts of effort. It’s a hurricane of slapstick (some of it in fact very funny) and age-appropriate energetic fight scenes, but lacks the sweetness and charm of the franchise at its best. It failed the wriggle test on my seven-year-old cinema date, who was squirming in her seat around the hour mark.

Jack Black has earned the reputation of being the go-to actor whenever a game is being adapted into a Hollywood film production, considering the wide range of adaptations that he has been a part of. From voicing the tyrannical Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie to playing Steve in the upcoming Minecraft adaptation, the star seems to be well-versed in the world of games and feels like a genuine fan of interactive media.
As he’s set to portray Claptrap in the Eli Roth-directed Borderlands film, Black has been wondering something that other gamers would probably agree with.

Cuddly Kung Fu master Po the Panda returns to the big screen for a fourth instalment of the animated action comedy franchise, eight years after Kung Fu Panda 3. Unfortunately, it’s fair to say that the law of diminishing returns has very much kicked in, because while the film is entirely amiable, it doesn’t quite deliver the same punch, and frequently feels like it’s going through the motions.
The film begins in the Valley of Peace, where Po (Jack Black) is content with his life as the legendary Dragon Warrior, occasionally defeating the odd villain with his sweet kung-fu skills and using his standing in the community to open a tofu-and-noodle shop.

The latest installment of the Kung Fu Panda has officially become a financial success. Despite the film’s mixed reactions from longtime fans of the franchise, Kung Fu Panda 4 has already earned $275 Million worldwide on an $85 Million budget.
The film series’ success is arguably attributed to the fantastic performance of the series lead, Jack Black, who plays the titular kung fu master Po the Panda. His performance brings the character to life, and it is hard to imagine anyone else taking on the role.
Unfortunately, we may have to say farewell to the iconic actor as in a recent interview with The Sunday Times, he was asked about the franchise’s future. He stated:
“For me, I think this is the farewell. This is the last Kung Fu Panda. Ever.“
He would then go on to say:
“I’m just thrilled that it turned out so great because when you start these things,...
