Since the mid-1980s, when his serial performance work, Chang in a Void Moon, ran at New York’s Pyramid Club, John Jesurun has explored on stage characters and stories mediated by the images technology throws back at us. His formally ambitious plays use theater, music, and projection to tell narratively fractured tales that are both spellbindingly eerie as well as, sometimes, hilariously funny. His latest play, Stopped Bridge of Dreams, is running now at La Mama in New York City through February 5. As I’m traveling from Sundance to Rotterdam, I’m sad I’m going to miss it. But perhaps some of you can go and file a report.
Here’s how the Vimeo page describes the piece:

Tom X. Chao: Callous Cad Kim Katzberg: Penetrating the Space Here Arts Center 145 Sixth Avenue September 26 – October 16, 2011
Cheerful Insanity consists of two plays, both directed by John Harlacher and presented in repertory at the downtown performance space called Here. I attended these plays knowing next to nothing about what I was to behold in the downstairs performance space. I am not quite sure of the “cheerful,” but there was “insanity” galore.
In Callous Cad, Tom X. Chao plays himself: a man who finally, after years and years of failure, has had “sex” and is now saddled in a relationship with a woman he does not love -- or even, it seems, like very much. He reminds me of early Woody Allen in acting roles, when you were not expected take his acting seriously. The difference here is that Tom is a charmless neurotic showing none of the delight Allen exuded in being neurotic.

By Tanith Lee (writing as and with Esther Garber and Judas Garbah).
Lethe Press
Disturbed by Her Song is a collection of short works by Tanith Lee; or as indicated in the title page, Tanith Lee writing as and with Esther Garber and Judas Garbah. Immediately we get the message that Tanith Lee means not merely to present us with fiction stories by one writer, but rather as different writers channeled through one person and presenting us with stories. It is what makes Tanith Lee not merely an excellent writer but also a consummate storyteller.
Although Tanith Lee is often described as a horror or dark fantasy writer a more apt description would be as an atmospheric writer. Good horror (or dark fantasy) is as dependent on atmosphere as it is on suspense. Tanith Lee never disappoints. Near beginning of the (my favorite) short “Death and the Maiden,” Lee writes,...
