Pamela Salem, who portrayed Miss Moneypenny in the non-Eon James Bond movie Never Say Never Again, has passed away at the age of 80.
While Pamela Salem’s turn as Moneypenny was a one-off – and in a film that is widely not considered part of the 007 canon – her go at the beloved character can’t be ignored. Interestingly, despite how frequently the character appears in the Bond universe, she has only been played by a small selection of actresses: Lois Maxwell, Caroline Bliss, Samantha Bond, and Naomie Harris. But only Salem has the distinction of playing Miss Moneypenny just one time.
But not once was there any strange bad blood between Pamela Salem or her predecessors, particularly Maxwell. As per a 1984 interview (via The Hollywood Reporter), Salem said, “I had seen Moneypenny before, of course, in the earlier films played by Lois Maxwell…At first [the media] tried to stir things up between...

In The Inheritance, an old man of apparently sound health falls dead under mysterious circumstances. He leaves behind three adult children and a fortune. The three children, together and individually, have a huge pile of unresolved issues, as you would expect, because otherwise, there wouldn’t be any point in telling this story. Ideally, they should get equal shares of their father’s wealth, but here’s the hook: the dead man apparently updated his will just before his death, and according to the new will, somebody else is going to be the sole heir to the huge fortune.
The Channel 5 miniseries, created by Aschilin Ditta, is now available for you to binge over the weekend. It absolutely doesn’t offer anything new or original. We have seen stories like this many times before. But that doesn’t mean you should skip this one. Because everyone loves a good murder mystery.

It will premiere in 2024.
Ghosts producer Monumental Television is behind the adaptation of the 2021 novel. Hounded, also released as Hunted outside the UK, is the latest cinematic variation on The Most Dangerous Game. It takes elements from films like Don’t Breathe, Nefarious, and Turkey Shoot then adds the very upper-class British tradition of fox hunting. The result is a not-so-subtle survival horror metaphor for class warfare.
Leon and his brother Chaz along with their partners Vix and Tod have a good racket going on. Gregory, the local antique dealer hires them to rob his own customers. It’s good money for a quick in and out, grabbing the one item of value he wants.
Having made enough to send Chaz to college, Leon is ready to retire. The others however want one more job to set themselves up.

With its ‘posho’ villains and gang of ne’er-do-wells, this tale debut from director Tommy Boulding is too caricatural to hit hard as satire
Brexit has been conspicuous by its absence so far in British cinema. So for the time being we have to make do with faint echoes in the likes of Hounded, which in its B-movie-ish way deals with the current deep divisions in English society and nostalgia for Blighty’s heyday. Pitting a group of Peckham housebreakers against the fox-hunting set, its satire is blunt-nosed and its prole-coursing spree never quite devious enough. But it still has a certain vindictive thrill.
Leon (Nobuse Jr) is the leader of a crew of thieves about to pull one last job in order to bankroll the studies of Chaz (Malachi Pullar-Latchman). Along with domestic abuse survivor Vix (Hannah Traylen) and Polish immigrant Tod (Ross Coles), they bust into a sprawling manor,...

Plot: A gang of young thieves in the midst of a home robbery get more than they bargained for when they are captured by the property owners. Attacked and bound by their captors, they are spirited away from the home and released in the middle of nowhere — tracked, hunted and to be killed like animals by a heavily armed wealthy family.
Review: We’ve seen the “Most Dangerous Game” story told in many different ways, yet Hunted manages to still be entertaining despite knowing where it’s going for most of the duration. And I think it’s because they go the smart route of keeping this small. This is a singular group being hunted by another singular group. This isn’t some large conspiracy that spans the entire world, which immediately goes into the realm of fantasy. The film’s greatest strength is just how real the situation feels.

"Last night you made the unfortunate mistake of breaking into my ancestral home." Saban Films has unveiled an official US trailer for an indie action thriller titled Hunted, formerly known as Hounded when it premiered at FrightFest in the UK last month. Arriving in the US in theaters and on VOD starting in October. The film comes from the UK and is described as a "seriously suspenseful action-thriller." A stately home robbery takes an evil turn one night when a gang of young thieves are caught by the owners of the house and then hunted across the estate for the proprietor's entertainment. Sounds like a bit of a twist on "The Most Dangerous" game concept, along with some wealthy estate owners being royal assholes. Hunted stars Samantha Bond, Nick Moran, James Lance, and Malachi Pullar Latchman. Get a head start now. It almost reminds me of The Hunger Games in this trailer,...

It may be this year’s ‘comfort food’ film but Julian Fellowes’ second theatrical sequel to his revered long-running TV show is quality goods — and may be better than the first one. Almost every actor is back, seemingly pleased as plum puddings to repeat their roles as either landed nobility or downstairs staff. The storyline ties a final bow on some characters and plot lines, and in a far more pleasing way than we thought possible. Even casual fans of the franchise ought to be charmed.

Jean Reno in the thriller Cold Blood. Photo credit: Screen Media
French action star Jean Reno re-teams with Thierry Arbogast, the cinematographer on La Femme Nikita and,The Fifth Element, for action thriller Cold Blood. In this English-language French-Ukrainian film, Jean Reno plays a legendary hit man, the kind of role he has played well many times. With the help of cinematographer Arbogast, stunning locations, and a good supporting cast, they do their best to add style and suspense to this action thriller. Unfortunately, it is not enough to overcome the messy, nonsensical script.
Reno plays a retired hit man living in a remote cabin in Washington State when a young woman (Sara Lind), who has been injured in a snowmobile accident, suddenly turns up nearly on his doorstep. This begins a twisty tale built around the assassination of a mysterious billionaire, a tale of secrets, power, and money, with...

The presence of Jean Reno in Cold Blood is undoubtedly meant to invoke memories of better movies like Leon: The Professional and Nikita. Sadly, that only exacerbates how poor this is. Cold Blood is a cliched and thoroughly mediocre action flick, trafficking almost exclusively in plot points we’ve seen done before, and better. Reno looks bored, the filmmaking is indifferent, and the 90 minute running time drags by. It’s the sort of project that you can’t figure out why it got the green light? Who wanted to see this? The folks involved barely seemed like they wanted to make it. It’s just an absolute slog to get though. The film is a mix of action, drama, and mystery, though it doesn’t do any of that particularly well. When a snowmobile crashes in a secluded area, a young woman (Sarah Lind) is hurt. Dragging herself away from the wreck,...

As the minutes slowly tick by in the lifeless thriller “Cold Blood,” it’s easy to mourn for what might have been. Jean Reno stars as Henry, a veteran hitman seeking isolation in a remote cabin in the Pacific Northwest, which could have made for a contemplative and melancholy reimagining of his signature role in Luc Besson’s “Léon: The Professional.” When Henry is forced to care for a mysterious, injured woman who interrupts his solitude, one envisions a close-quarters psychological cat-and-mouse game between two dangerous and deeply secretive people. It turns out we get neither of those, just a bland and forgettable B-movie that came and went quickly in France last May and looks to do the same upon its day-and-date release in the U.S.
Reno, who turns 71 this month, hasn’t burned through the credibility he amassed with the cool kids during his long-ago career peak working with Besson.
