Mock the Week, which ran for over 20 seasons on the BBC in the UK, is coming to the U.S.
Amazon Freevee has greenlit a U.S. version of the show exec produced by Trevor Noah and Dan Patterson, who was responsible for the British series.
It comes after the show, which is a mix of a panel show and stand-up comedy format, ended in the UK last year.
The series sees two teams of comedians take a satirical swipe at current news, pop culture, and world events.
In the UK, it was hosted by Dara O’Briain, and featured the likes of Hugh Dennis, Rory Bremner, Frankie Boyle, Russell Howard and Chris Addison. It originally launched in 2005 and was created by Patterson and Mark Leveson, who were behind Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Channel 5 drama The Teacher has left viewers stunned with a last-minute twist in its final episode.
The episode saw teacher Jenna Garvey (Sheridan Smith) discover who had framed her for having an affair with a pupil.
It was revealed that the culprit was in fact Brian, the partner of her friend Pauline – who was a former colleague known as Arnold Cleary.
Cleary had served time in prison after Jenna reported him for having sex with a student, losing his family in the process.
He therefore set out to frame Jenna as an act of revenge.
In a final, shocking twist, Arnold is seen walking into the path of oncoming traffic during a confrontation with Jenna, and is hit by a car.
Fans are not shown whether or not Jenna was able to clear her name, or what happened in the aftermath of Arnold’s death.

Every year, there comes a point when the UK comedy industry suddenly becomes abuzz with whispers. Word gets about that the producers of Mock the Week are in town. They’re scouting out stand-up shows for new talent – and you could be next. “Everyone’s going, ‘You know they’re looking’,” comedian Maisie Adam tells me. “You suddenly ended up going to every gig feeling like you’re in those early episodes of X Factor, queuing up outside.”
When it was announced in August that the BBC was canning Mock the Week after 17 years, in order to “create room for new shows”, online discourse exploded. People questioned what the show ending in its current format (the team are optimistic it’ll find a home elsewhere) meant for the BBC, for the panel show format and for satire as a whole. Veteran broadcaster Huw Edwards has been praised for the way in which he delivered the news of the Queen’s death on BBC One.
The Welsh journalist joined the BBC in 1984 and has been a fixture on British television for at least the last two decades since becoming the main presenter of the Ten O'Clock News in 2003.
Over the years, Edwards has delivered the news of Barack Obama’s first election, the results of the EU referendum, the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and now the death of Queen Elizabeth II to the nation.
Wearing a black suit and tie, in line with the BBC’s dress code for when a member of the royal family dies, Edwards told viewers Thursday (8 September): “A few moments ago Buckingham Palace announced the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

A prank call from impressionist Rory Bremner could inadvertently have helped save then U.K. Prime Minister John Major’s leadership in 1993, newly released files from Britain’s National Archive have revealed.
In October 1993, as part of his show “Rory Bremner, Who Else?” for U.K. broadcaster Channel 4, Bremner called member of parliament (MP) Richard Body, a so-called “Eurosceptic”, pretending to be Major, and asked for Body’s support. Body, and several other MPs were on the verge of challenging Major’s leadership at the time of the Conservative Party conference in Blackpool. Evidently Bremner, who was experimenting whether his impersonation of the Prime Minister was good enough, was convincing, and Body and his fellow revolting MPs decided not to mount a challenge to Major, who had a majority of just 18 in parliament at that time.
If the revolt had succeeded, the Brexit process could have commenced then.

It's been a whopping 30 years since Spitting Image first hit our screens on ITV in 1984. The satirical puppet show quickly became one of the most-watched shows of the 1980s and early 1990s.
I wasn't able to fully appreciate the series when it was first on TV. When I watched it in the early '90s as a child, I found it funny mainly because of the silly puppets, even if I didn't quite understand what was going on. But in retrospective viewings, it still holds up as a genuinely hilarious satire of politics, entertainment, sport and general UK culture of the era.
It's quite incredible to think that Spitting Image hasn't been on air since 1996. To put that into perspective, the Spice Girls had only just been unleashed, Tony Blair hadn't been elected yet, and Lorde had only just been born.

The Cartoon Museum has announced its Spitting Image - From Start to Finish exhibition.
Arriving later in February, it will mark the 30th anniversary of the launch of the satirical television show.
"All your favourite characters, from the programme created by Roger Law, Peter Fluck and John Lloyd, will be under one roof - these include Margaret Thatcher, John Major, Richard Branson, Michael Jackson and the odd Royal Family face," said the museum.
It will explore the collaboration between creators Fluck and Law - including their previous work for National Lampoon and Der Spiegle - with a collection of sketches and photographs.
Contributors to the show, which ran for 18 series up until 1996, included Ian Hislop, Harry Enfield, Rory Bremner, Hugh Dennis, Alistair McGowan, Kate Robbins and Chris Barrie.

It's barely been a month since she won The X Factor, but Sam Bailey has already completed work on her debut album The Power Of Love, a collection of covers with a sprinkling of original songs that comes out next month.
We met up with her to talk about how she's coping with fame, what her first conversation with Simon Cowell was like and her incredible duet with Nicole Scherzinger on the series final.
On life since winning The X Factor:
"I think it's sunk in now, but I still feel like I'm living a dream every single day. Every day I'm doing something new - the other day I did some TV stuff - and so far everything seems to be going okay! That said, I felt thrown in at the deep end on the National Television Awards.
"It was like... woah! I performed twice and presented an award.

"I went, 'Hello', and he said, 'Hello darling', and then all of a sudden I actually pictured Jon Culshaw and Rory Bremner. I couldn't believe it was him, so I didn't actually think it was him at first.

Ross Noble has criticised Mock the Week, branding the panel show "terrible".
The comedian, who has frequently appeared on Have I Got News for You, condemned the Dara Ó Briain-fronted series for a perceived lack of improvisation.
When asked why he has never taken part in Mock the Week, Noble told the Radio Times: "Because it's terrible.
"If you watch Mock the Week, watch when the camera goes wide, look at the scripts - they've got pages and pages of them.
"You watch Have I Got News for You and they show a wide shot, there are no notes there. You watch Mock the Week, there are A4 pages spread out if you look at the desk in front of them."

Deaths threats to comedian prompt calls for nationalists to raise the tone. Plus, Fringe gets new venue and Trump takes revenge
This week's comedy news
And this week – a comedian influences the future survival of the British state. Standup Susan Calman has been drawn into a row surrounding the conduct of the campaign for Scottish independence, after she was attacked online after joking on Radio 4's News Quiz about the nationalist cause.
"After the show was broadcast," Calman wrote on her blog, "I was accused of betraying my country, of being racist towards my own people and of being a cunt." Fellow comics including Rory Bremner leaped to Calman's defence, as the Scotsman newspaper picked up on and ran with Calman's reference to "name-calling, swearing and death threats". To cap it all, the shadow foreign secretary and Unionist tub-thumper Douglas Alexander hijacked the row to berate the independence camp for lowering the debate's tone.

In this isle of Britain we seem to be obsessed with regional dialects. We construct opinions based on the sounds and cadences they form. Stereotypes can be derived from even a simple “hullo”. A Liverpudlian accent makes you a thief, a Birmingham accent means you are dull/dim witted, a London accent makes you a geezer! The region and strength of the enunciation can make your brain subconsciously decide whether the accused speaker is friend or foe. This makes delivery of vocabulary in these alternate timbres very powerful. As such, we prize these intonations in language very dearly.
So, it was no surprise to me when the people of the United Kingdom were so vehemently offended about a story regarding an American actress trying and failing to replicate the intricate tones of a much cherished regional drawl, made it on to BBC national news, -far beyond the vales and boundaries...
