Born August 18, 1934, he is one year younger, to the day, than Roman Polanski (August 18, 1933), the husband of Sharon Tate, who was murdered by Charles Manson's gang. Bugliosi prosecuted the Manson Clan; he co-authored the screenplay for Helter Skelter (1976), based on his best selling book about the case.

Passed away from cancer at age 80, at a Los Angeles hospital on June 6, 2015. Following his death, he was interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.

Portrayed by George DiCenzo in Helter Skelter (1976), Richard Crenna in And the Sea Will Tell (1991), Arliss Howard in Till Death Us Do Part (1992), and Bruno Kirby in Helter Skelter (2004).

Did not own a computer or a typewriter. He did most of his writing in longhand or tape recorded dictation that was transcribed by his secretary.

Had two children: Wendy Bugliosi and Vincent Bugliosi III.
