Though the success rate might not have been quite as high as he’d prefer (Talladega Nights good; Semi-Pro not so much), Will Ferrell clearly still sees the sports comedy genre as a viable target. Last year, it was announced he planned to reunite with Other Guys co-star Mark Wahlberg in Turkey Bowl, about rival towns clashing over a big touch football game. Things have changed since then: the project is now called 3 Mississippi and has snagged writing / directing team Sean Anders and John Morris to bring it to life.Mississippi will see Ferrell and Wahlberg as the heads of two competing households, who have faced off every Thanksgiving. The idea was originally pitched by Owen Burke of Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions and has seen at least one draft of the script cranked out already.Assuming the new pair locks in a deal, Anders will actually...

Earlier we reported that Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg were set to reunite on screen in a film tentatively called Turkey Bowl for Warner Bros. Alec Baldwin is attached to co-star in the film, which is being scripted by 30 Rock executive producer Robert Carlock and Friends veteran Scott Silveri. McKay had this to say about the creation of the concept:
"The idea was originally conceived for Mark Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin. Owen Burke, who’s a producer at Gary Sanchez, and I were talking about how crazily funny Wahlberg and Baldwin were in The Departed — how, even though it’s not a comedy, we could just watch them all day long. Exclusive: Warner Bros has closed a deal for Turkey Bowl, a comedy that will re-team The Other Guys stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as guys from football-obsessed towns who lead rival teams in an annual tackle football game for bragging and trash-talking rights. The tackle games are grandiose, and I'm told they plan to pack it with fun cameos, just the way they did during the rival broadcaster gang fights in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Alec Baldwin is already aboard as Wahlberg's father. Sold as a pitch, the project will be written by 30 Rock's Robert Carlock, and Scott Silveri, with the story by Owen Burke of Gary Sanchez Productions. Exclusive: HBO is teaming with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez and actress Lizzy Caplan to develop a comedy series project based on actress/writer Julie Klausner’s memoir I Don’t Care About Your Band. The project is eyed as a potential starring vehicle for Caplan, who is coming off Starz’s cult comedy series Party Down. The book, a gritty but comedic look at what it’s like to navigate the dating world in your 20s, chronicles Klausner’s experiences from her preadolescent sexual awakenings through the unsavory details of sleeping with a gallery of losers throughout her 20s. Gary Sanchez’s Owen Burke brought the book to the company’s Jessica Elbaum, who recently received an Emmy nomination for executive producing Ferrell's You're Welcome America HBO special. (She also exec produced the one-man Broadway play the special was adapted from from.) Elbaum started developing the project with Caplan.
