Came to Los Angeles as a child and attended UCLA before beginning his
acting career in the 1950s.

He is survived by daughter Susan Barrett, a professor of entertainment studies; son Mark, a producer; and three grandchildren (Ben, Emily, Lucy).
Julian left acting and returned to school, earning a doctorate in psychology and established the Westside Center for Growth and Counseling in Westwood, California, where he worked as a therapist.
His ex-wife JoAnn Burton also survived him.
He retired to Palm Springs, California, a city he loved, and where he died in 2006.
