If you build it, he will come. And if you joke about it, he will tweet. Kevin Costner has responded to John Mulaney’s breakdown of Field of Dreams – delivered when presenting Best Sound (a surprise win for The Zone of Interest) at Sunday’s Oscars – in good-hearted fashion, saying it wasn’t a bad summary at all.
In one of the night’s funniest moments, Mulaney took a tangent after delivering some of the most iconic lines in modern movies. One was, “If you build it, he will come” from 1989’s Field of Dreams. From there, he gave a far better plot summary of Phil Alden Robinson’s movie than any VHS box could. “I guess he doesn’t build it, he mows down corn, and then there is a field and he’s like, ‘I’m going to watch ghosts play baseball, and the bank is like, ‘You wanna pay your mortgage?...

The quest continues to reboot thirtysomething for the small screen.
Original series star Peter Horton, who played Gary Shepherd in the drama that aired from 1987 to 1991 on ABC, gave his followers an update Wednesday on where the project stands. He first engaged fans about the possibility last August by asking them to “try blasting” Amazon Studios and MGM Studios about doing the reboot.
“The bad news,” he wrote on X Wednesday, “Amazon has decided not to program our reboot. Good news: they gave us permission to take it out wide! Take it anywhere without encumbrance. This is big! So keep it up. Stay tuned for progress reports! Keep up the pressure!!!”

Phil Alden Robinson's "Field of Dreams" was the sleeper hit of spring 1989. Based on W.P. Kinsella's wistful novel "Shoeless Joe," the film connected with audiences of all ages, but Baby Boomers in particular. Kevin Costner's Ray Kinsella, like many former hippies, became estranged from his parents during the late 1960s. All Ray had was his dad, and all they had in common was baseball, but even that became a contentious issue. A young and fiery Ray finally hit his breaking point, said something awful to his dad, and never saw him again.
That awful utterance and subsequent shunning gets rectified in the waning moments of "Field of Dreams," and if you saw the film during its initial theatrical release, you beheld the heartening spectacle of mainstream moviegoers, especially men, hanging out through the credits longer than usual. Robinson had crafted the most pulverizing male weepie since Buzz Kulik's "Brian's Song,...

Thirtysomething stars Mel Harris and Peter Horton are leading the charge to get the iconic 80s series available for streaming on Amazon and maybe even film an update on where the characters are today.
Of course, the role of Gary – played by Peter Horton – will have to be a ghost if they show returns.

During the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the entertainment industry completely shut down. But as time progressed and we learned more about how the virus operates, Covid specialists were brought onto projects to help keep filming safe. Around this time, Little House on the Prairie alum Melissa Gilbert got the opportunity to audition for a television series filming in Canada, but she ultimately decided to turn it down. Here’s why.
Melissa Gilbert didn’t want to be away from husband Timothy Busfield
The producers of the television show wanted to bring Gilbert in for an audition, but if she got the role, she’d have to film in Canada for several months.
“I wouldn’t be allowed to visit home at all because of quarantine rules,” she wrote in her 2022 memoir, Back to the Prairie. “Tim would soon be filming his show For Life in New York City and...

Not too long before the Covid-19 pandemic, Little House on the Prairie alum Melissa Gilbert and her husband thirtysomething actor Timothy Busfield bought a little cabin in the Catskills. When March 2020 came, the home acted as a safe haven for the couple. Along with playing wiffle ball and raising chickens, gardening is something Gilbert got really into. Of her bountiful harvest, her cucumbers-turned-pickles were among her favorites.
The types of cucumbers Gilbert planted
Gilbert’s garden was overflowing with goodies throughout the course of the Covid-19 pandemic. But the first vegetables to be ready for picking were the cucumbers.
“I had planted a mix of English and Boston pickling cucumbers, the latter especially for making sour pickles,” she wrote in her 2022 memoir, Back to the Prairie. “They were short and firm, their skin much thinner than their longer, more traditional English cousins. I brought in a ton of them. They...

Little House on the Prairie alum Melissa Gilbert and husband thirtysomething actor Timothy Busfield rode out the Covid-19 pandemic in a small cabin in the Catskills (where they still live today). When Busfield got his first acting job following March 2020, the couple faced their first Covid scare. Here’s what happened.
Back to work with Covid safety protocols
Busfield had been cast in For Life before the pandemic. It was one of the first shows to begin production again amid the virus. Gilbert wrote about her husband’s return to work in her 2022 memoir, Back to the Prairie.
“Tim had been on several Zooms regarding safety protocols and received numerous emails updating procedures,” she wrote. “Everybody got tested. Their temperatures were taken. The crew was masked and shielded. Each set was sterilized overnight and then sealed. If the seal was broken before production the next day, they were going to...

Actors Melissa Gilbert and Timothy Busfield have given each other plenty of meaningful gifts over the 10 years they’ve been married. But one Christmas, Busfield gifted his lovely bride a crossbow. The Little House on the Prairie alum was touched by her husband’s thoughtful present to her.
Timothy Busfield bought Melissa Gilbert a crossbow to defend herself
In 2019, Gilbert and Busfield bought a cabin in the Catskill mountains. Initially, the home was intended to be a retreat for the couple to escape to when the hustle and bustle of New York City became overwhelming. But now, it’s their main place of residence. As Gilbert and Busfield started spending more and more time there, Busfeild got the idea that Gilbert needed a way to protect herself when she was at the cabin all alone. So for Christmas that year, the thirtysomething actor gifted the Little House alum a crossbow.

Melissa Gilbert and Timothy Busfield have been married for 10 years. Today, the actors live a peaceful life together in the Catskills. But, as with every relationship, the couple has experienced a few “speed bumps” in their union along the way.
Four months of couples therapy helped Melissa Gilbert and Timothy Busfield through a rough patch
In Gilbert’s 2022 memoir, Back to the Prairie, the former Laura Ingalls actor writes that she and Busfield were “a perfect match.” But there was one point in their marriage where “some old stuff” started to come up for the couple. This occurred shortly after they made the move to New York from Michigan.
“It reared its ugly head, which we recognized immediately and dealt with by seeing a wonderful marriage counselor, whose office was about fifteen blocks from our apartment,” wrote Gilbert. “We saw her once a week for three or four months, and...

Melissa Gilbert had to handle her fair share of animals as Laura Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie. But, apparently, it’s something she does in her real life as well. In her 2022 memoir, Back to the Prairie, the actor goes into her relationship with animals, including one story she shared about saving a bird from her cat with killer instincts.

Gilbert got her tuxedo cat, Charlie Chaplin, when she lived in Los Angeles. In the city of angels, Charlie was a sweet little guy. But as soon as Gilbert moved to Michigan with husband Timothy Busfield, a new side of Charlie presented itself.
“Once he was in the Midwest, he changed from Charlie Chaplin to Charlie Manson,” wrote Gilbert. “We would come home and find his prey laid out for our approval in the living room.

Melissa Gilbert and husband Timothy Busfield bought a fixer-upper cabin in the Catskills in 2019. Little House on the Prairie alum Melissa Gilbert has been married three times. If you asked her at the time of each marriage, she’d probably say each one was for love. But she found herself in love and with “limited funds” in her third marriage with Timothy Busfield.

After Gilbert and Busfield got married in 2013, they lived together in a modest home in Michigan, Busfield’s home state. In 2019, they bought a rundown “cabbage” (Gilbert’s word for the home combining cottage and cabin) in the Catskills to fix up. Especially after their respective divorces from their previous partners, Gilbert and Busfield found themselves needing to be extra smart with their money. The former Laura Ingalls actor couldn’t help but notice a stark difference in herself and some of her peers in the industry.

Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert married Timothy Busfield of Thirtysomething fame back in 2013. For both actors, it was their third marriage. In the Laura Ingalls actor’s latest memoir, Back to the Prairie, she writes about how Busfield is different from her past partners.

Even after the couple’s honeymoon phase, Gilbert “reveled in the respect” her third husband showed her. She knew from the beginning that their love was different from her past relationships. But it seems Busfield was different, too.
“Before Tim, I always felt like I had to make my own abilities and accomplishments smaller to allow the men I was with to feel confident, bigger, macho, and in control,” wrote Gilbert. “Tim was different. Instead of feeling threatened by a strong, outspoken, capable woman, he encouraged me to meet each day fearlessly.

Melissa Gilbert and Timothy Busfield got to talking in a bar one night some time after both of their second divorces. Almost immediately, they fell in love. Today, they live a quiet life together in a small cabin in the Catskill mountains. But before they could settle into their quiet life, they had a ton of renovation work to do (the cottage was incredibly rundown when they purchased it). Along the way, Gilbert proved to be quite handy with tools and DIY tasks, earning her a new reputation.

Melissa Gilbert ran for Congress in 2016, but had to drop out part way through the race due to health concerns. In her 2022 memoir, Back to the Prairie, the actor looked back at her devastating decision to call the race per her doctor’s orders. Here’s what happened, in the Laura Ingalls actor’s words.

Throughout the entirety of Gilbert’s campaign, she was in “tremendous pain” due to a herniated disc pressing on nerves in her neck. And each day, it got worse.
“At first, I kept the problem from everyone but Tim [Busfield, her husband],” she wrote. “Then, it was impossible to hide it. It turned my manageable migraines into crippling events, and I suffered from terrible spasms in my neck, numbness in my right hand, and excruciating pain every time I turned my head.

Melissa Gilbert and her husband Timothy Busfield have always had dogs. They currently have a rescue dog named Chicago, and who can forget the Little House on the Prairie actor’s little bulldog Josephine, the inspiration for her children’s book Daisy and Josephine. But the couple used to have a golden retriever named Chevy. Here’s why they thought it best to rehome the dog.

Today, Gilbert and Busfield live in the Catskills. But before that, they lived in Michigan, Busfield’s home state. It was a welcome adjustment for Gilbert, who’d spent her whole life in the Hollywood fast lane. She was ready for something quieter and slower. That’s exactly what Michigan provided. While living in Michigan, the couple adopted a golden retriever, Chevy, from their friends, the Smiths.

After Melissa Gilbert moved to Michigan with her husband Timothy Busfield, she became interested in the local politics. She was particularly interested in the state’s 2014 gubernatorial campaign that had Democrat Mark Schauer running against Republican incumbent Rick Snyder. She liked Schauer and his running mate, Lisa Brown, and wanted to support them. So Gilbert and Busfield made some phone calls to get the former Little House on the Prairie star involved.

Gilbert and Busfield knew they wanted an intimate, no-fuss wedding with just the two of them. So the main task for the Little House on the Prairie alum to do before the “big” day was to pick the perfect dress that encapsulated the occasion. She had some trouble finding something she liked.

Melissa Gilbert recently turned 59. She had a quiet day with her family, which she said was “heaven.” As the former Little House on the Prairie star enjoys her last year in her 50s, let’s look back at how she began the decade: having a moving experience at a spiritual center.
Melissa Gilbert | Roy Rochlin/Getty Images Melissa Gilbert wanted to do something ‘quiet and reflective’ for her 50th birthday
Gilbert couldn’t have ignored turning 50 if she’d wanted to. Publications and sites ran headlines like “Half-Pint Reaches Half a Century” for months leading up to May 8. But she didn’t want to ignore it. She also didn’t want to celebrate with a big blowout, as she’d done for milestone birthdays in the past.
“For fifty, I decided that I’d had enough crazy to last a lifetime,” she wrote in her 2022 memoir, Back to the Prairie.

The case of Gilbert and Busfield was no exception. The Little House on the Prairie alum initially believed the task would be easier than it ended up being. “Easy” was not how it all went down.

When Little House on the Prairie actor Melissa Gilbert and husband Thirtysomething actor Timothy Busfield bought a small home in the Catskills, it wasn’t much to look at. Still, that didn’t scare off Gilbert and Busfield. They bought the “little house” and made it into their own special haven.

There's not a lot worth remembering about "Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise," a sequel we're guessing a big chunk of people have either forgotten existed or tried to block from their memories. It was a moderate success, bringing in just over triple its 10 million production budget, so audiences were happy enough with it, but it was... not well-received by the critics. Hardly surprising, all things considered. We're not exactly talking about Oscar-bait here.
But believe it or not, the film had a lasting impact in at least one way -- and we don't mean the baffling number of additional sequels or the rumored reboot. No, we're talking about the fact that, somehow, "Revenge of the Nerds II" influenced an all-time great TV series that couldn't be further from the guys at Lambda Lambda Lambda getting into assorted debauchery on spring break: "The West Wing."

The case may not be closed on For Life.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the Nicholas Pinnock-led drama could return for a third season on IMDb TV, the Amazon-backed streaming service.
At this stage, the streaming service has committed to air the first two seasons, but additional seasons could come to pass.
It will all come down to how For Life performs with its already-aired two seasons.
THR states that the cast recently extended their options with both Sony Pictures Television and ABC Signature Studios, meaning that the cast will still be available should a formal pickup come before the options lapse.
This is a great vote of confidence in the drama that was canceled by ABC earlier this year.
For Life Season 2 averaged 1.8 million viewers and a 0.35 rating in the demo. The series is thought to be a solid performer in delayed viewing.

“For Life” could soon be returning to life on IMDb TV.
According to sources, the up and coming streamer is poised to order a third season of the legal drama, which was canceled by ABC after two seasons back in May. The news comes just as IMDb TV has announced that it has struck a deal to stream Seasons 1 and 2 of the series on its ad-supported platform.
Series executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson was said to be instrumental in reviving the series, working with top leadership at Disney, like Hulu-ABC chief Craig Erwich, to find the show a new home. “For Life” was not a linear ratings breakout during its time on ABC but has been said to have performed very well in streaming playback on platforms like Hulu. Jackson’s hope is that putting “For Life” on a free AVOD service like IMDb TV will allow the show...
