Back in 2015, it was announced that The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman writer/director Robert Eggers (who was, at that time, had only made The Witch) was planning to remake F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (watch it Here). It took Eggers several years to get to Nosferatu, though, and we’ll finally have the chance to see his take on the concept when his movie reaches theatres on Wednesday, December 25th. About eight and half months after Eggers’ Nosferatu was first announced, we heard that filming had begun on a separate Nosferatu remake. Or, as the director referred to it, a remix. That was David Lee Fisher’s Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror… and that movie has now made its way out into the world! Fisher’s movie is available for purchase on Prime Video, going for the price of $4.99. It will also be released through Apple TV tomorrow,...

Corey Yuen, the actor, action choreographer and director of “So Close” and “Doa: Dead or Alive,” died in 2022, the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers confirmed to Variety.
Local and English-language reports say that Yuen died of Covid-19 on an undisclosed date in Hong Kong. He was born on Feb. 15, 1951 as Ying Gang-ming.
His death was initially kept private at the request of his family. But on Monday, the news was revealed on Chinese-language social media by fellow action star Jackie Chan, who paid tribute to Yuen and others in the industry who had died.
Yuen and Chan were contemporaries and trained together with Sammo Hung Yuen Wah, Yuen Qiu and Yuen Biao at the Peking Opera School. Together, they were sometimes referred to as the Seven Little Fortunes or The Lucky Seven and made their mark during the heyday of Hong Kong cinema from the late 1970s to the early 1990s.

Brendan Quinn, whose role in Netflix’s “One Day” landed him a best supporting nod at the National Film Awards UK, has joined the ensemble cast of “Scene House,” a dark comedy penned and directed by Annabella Fazio.
Quinn stars alongside Netflix alum Safiyya Ingar (“The Witcher”), Nell Williams (“Blinded by the Light”), Denzel Baidoo (“Last Swim”), Selina Jones (“Raised by Wolves”), Aaron Teoh (“Wicked”) and Ivy Freeman-Attwood (“Two Neighbors”).
Looking at societal obsession with celebrity culture, the short film is set in a dystopian future where actors inhabit an enclosed area called The Scene House – an unsettling hybrid of a theme park and museum. Here, observers pay to enter and, for an additional cost, interact with the actors. One of these Actors, played by Jones, begins to question their existence in The Scene House as the boundaries blur between performance and reality.

But still, we picked the seven best sci-fi shows that we could find on Max.

A sibling is usually your first friend and your first enemy, someone who cares about you like your parents but will get into shenanigans with you. These relationships are complicated, especially when you go in different directions in life and potentially feel estranged from the complex trappings of family. These difficult, love/hate universal feelings are at the root of Sarah Carter’s feature film directorial debut, “In Her Name,” making its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival this month.

Wildly uneven but sporadically affecting, Bobby Roth’s “Pearl” is . A few abrupt narrative transitions indicate that some scenes, for whatever reason, must have been discarded during the editing process. But what remains on screen is enough to hold attention and generate rooting interest, especially if you’re amused by inside-baseball allusions to the film and TV industry.
There is an unmistakable air of autobiography to “Pearl,” along with the distinct flavor of a labor of love. Writer-director Roth first attracted notice with two well-received indie films, “The Boss’ Son” (1978) and “Heartbreakers” (a 1984 Sundance Festival prize-winner) before concentrating almost exclusively (and prolifically) on TV movies and series television. Jack Wolf, Lapaglia’s character, is a filmmaker who evidently has made some very bad, maybe unforgivable career moves, but still sells the occasional TV script.

We celebrate Friday the 13th by talking about some of our favorite unlucky characters in horror movies on this episode of Corpse Club!
Let's face it, if you're a character in a horror movie, you likely don't have it easy, but there are some characters who take the term "unlucky" to a whole other level. Whether it's the way they die, the emotional trauma they experience along the way, or even what they have to live with if they do survive, some characters in horror films don't need it to be Friday the 13th on the calendar to experience terrifying levels of bad luck.
On this episode of Daily Dead's official podcast, Corpse Club co-hosts Scott Drebit, Tamika Jones, Bryan Christopher, Derek Anderson, and Jonathan James discuss some of the unluckiest characters in horror movie history. How can you love and hate an episode of television at the same time?
The Flash Season 5 Episode 22 had its fair share of predictable reveals and climatic letdowns, but the emotional character driven moments were some of the series' best.
Everything that got resolved in "Legacy" begged the question: what exactly was the point?
Viewers got to meet Nora and watch as the West-Allens adjusted through the ups and downs of parenthood. It was a fun thing to witness, and it gave Candice Patton and Grant Gustin plenty of opportunities to flex their acting chops.

When we first learned that Cicada would serve as The Flash season 5’s big bad, I doubt any of us thought that his true identity would differ from the source material – or that his niece would travel back from the future, murder him, and take up his mantle. But I guess that’s what happens when everybody enjoys screwing with the timeline.
Of course, the show has a lot more going for it right now, so maybe that’s why it appears the final showdown with Cicada II will take place during this season’s penultimate episode. Don’t forget, the synopsis for the finale hints at the Reverse-Flash taking center stage.
Strangely enough, the villain herself doesn’t actually appear in the promo photos circulating ahead of next week’s adventure, but there are still enough there to tide us over. As you browse the gallery, you’ll find...

Now that a time traveling adult Grace Gibbons has taken over as big bad on The Flash, I’m oddly thrilled to learn she’s being referred to as what I’d been calling her following the big reveal, that being “Cicada II.” Hey, it’s obvious but it works.
For the time being, it appears as though Cicada II has been put on the back burner so that the situation involving Nora West-Allen and Eobard Thawne be fully explored – not to mention the return of the Icicle coming tomorrow night – but we can expect for Grace to resurface in season 5’s penultimate episode at the very latest. Suffice it to say, this has been confirmed by the official synopsis:
Cicada II Makes Her Move – Team Flash is on high alert after Cicada II (guest star Sarah Carter) threatens to unleash a dangerous virus that would put all meta-humans at risk.

The truth is out! I repeat the truth is out!
The Flash Season 5 Episode 17 gave us the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Nora confessed to being in cahoots with Eobard Thawne.
At least, technically it was her confession. Sherloque was the one to drop the actual reveal.
Sherloque’s character being given some significance to the plot was nice(it only took 17 episodes), but did it need to be during the biggest moment of the season?
Related: The Flash Season 5 Episode 16 Review: Failure is an Orphan
Not hearing the confession from Nora's mouth felt like a cheat, and essentially invalidated any growth she had shown since her introduction. Perhaps her lack of honesty heightened the drama, but it didn’t feel like a sacrifice worth making.
Especially when it read as a desperate attempt to keep Sherloque relevant.
The father/daughter chemistry between Gustin and Kennedy is phenomenal...

Cicada 2.0 is here and she's more powerful than her uncle. Read our thoughts on this week's episode of The Flash!
This The Flash review contains spoilers.
The Flash Season 5 Episode 17
Whatever your thoughts on the protracted Cicada storyline, The Flash just pushed the villain in a powerful, and menacing new direction with Cicada 2.0. But tonight’s action-packed adventure, “Time Bomb,” also blew Nora’s mystery wide open, and even took a comedic turn close to the spider-verse, what with Ralph’s determination to bring Cisco’s girlfriend into Team Flash.
As we learned last week, the new Cicada is the future version of Grace, Orlin’s niece. Played by Sarah Carter, she is not only vicious, but also far more powerful than her uncle ever was. And as much as Chris Klein’s Cicada was growly and permanently pissed off, Grace conveys some major sanity issues – as well as interesting future tech,...

There's a new Cicada in town on The Flash, and Sarah Carter told us all about her.
This article contains spoilers for The Flash if you aren't all caught up.
Just when it seemed Orlin Dwyer was about to lay down his dark matter dagger, a new Cicada buzzed their way into Central City last week to plague Team Flash. In a reveal at the end of the episode, fans learned the new version of the villain was none other than Grace Gibbons, Orlin’s niece from the future.
According to actor Sarah Carter, who plays the new Cicada, Grace is going to be an even bigger threat on The Flash beginning tonight, and “for the rest of the season.”
“She is more powerful than her uncle, she has skills he doesn’t have acquired in the future, and she is more vicious than her uncle,” says Carter.

I think it’s safe to say that we were all surprised by how last week’s episode of The Flash concluded. Well, Cicada’s decision to take the metahuman cure wasn’t the biggest of shockers, but the swift arrival of his successor certainly was. And if that weren’t enough, we learned her identity to be that of his niece, Grace Gibbons, somehow aged to adulthood.
If I were to guess, there are two possibilities as to how Grace could’ve claimed the mantle of Cicada: one is that her recently manifested powers awoke her from the coma and aged her by a decade or two. The other would be that she’s still in the coma, but Cicada II is a mental projection. Don’t forget, we got a hint at this several weeks ago when venturing inside of her mind.
No matter which solution proves true,...

Alex O’Loughlin has led the charge as Steve McGarrett since the show’s 2010 debut, and is taking a rare moment of introspection on the CBS action drama’s prolonged success.
