Simon Chilvers assesses the hits and misses on a rain sodden red carpet in London
As red carpet award seasons go, 2013's hasn't exactly been vintage. Long, safe and strapless – with the odd rogue halter-neck – does not make for a particularly exciting series of fashion parades.
Sadly, the Baftas' sartorial offerings didn't improve things that much. No one laid an egg, wore a Gap turtle neck or even thought to invite Cher. Instead, the rain sodden carpet featured many women dandering around with bare shoulders looking freezing.
One story on the carpet was surely the protocol of wearing a coat. As the impossibly good-looking Jennifer Lawrence first appeared on the carpet in flawless make up, she did so in a sensible wool overcoat. Soon this was ditched to reveal her sequin embellished strapless Dior gown, which was perfectly pretty but minus the coat, somehow lacked edge.

Lizzy's history as an ambassador of style
We kick off this week's fashion roundup with a look back at 60 years of Her Majesty's royal style. With her love of buttercup yellow and an affection for boxy handbags, Guardian fashion salutes the Queen's ability to be years ahead of the fashion pack.

Erm, it's summer and our feet are not ready

You've got ankle flashing and Ryan Gosling, bomber jackets versus double-breasted and lots to think about when it comes to jumpers. 2011 has been a busy year in menswear. Simon Chilvers breaks it down.
Ankles, patterned jumpers and a feast of peas and sweetcorn. These are my three defining sartorial moments of 2011. Sort of. Let's deal with the food first. Rewind to January's menswear week in Paris and the Thom Browne show. The short-trouser wearing American designer staged a gloriously bonkers banquet where models, dressed a bit like Johnny Depp in a Tim Burton film, paraded around the table in all their finery. There was a techno soundtrack with someone chanting about food. It was a proper fashion moment, up there with the fashion desk's team air punch when the Queen wore yellow to the royal wedding - but that's another story. Now, you might look at the outfits from that...

First up it was New York, then London, and now Milan fashion week has begun. Blow us down with a feather (we're that tired, we'd crumple) if it hasn't been a busy time for team fashion
Hello all. It feels like a lifetime has passed since we last spoke, and yet it was only last Friday, you know? And we know what it's like: one minute you're obsessing over the Guardian's new fashion website layout (don't worry, it's been keeping us awake at night too) and the next minute a whole week of work has passed and you've barely looked at the site at all. You log off from the work computer everyday with those browser windows still open on the latest blogs or galleries, but their contents remain unread. You go home thinking you'll read up on the site the next day, but the next day only brings a...

Who shone and who didn't quite get the look right on Baftas night? Simon Chilvers gives his fashion verdict
See pictures from the night here
It helps to be best friends with a designer
If the ceremony ever got boring, which it did, then game of the night was surely what are Julianne Moore and Tom Ford gossiping about? Naturally, Moore was wearing a Ford – she was in his catwalk show and his film A Single Man, after all – and it was the night's fashion triumph. Midnight velvet could sound a bit stately-home curtains, but with Moore's red hair, bright lips and restrained jewels, this was the epitome of class.
Men in bow ties do look dapper. And modern
Tom Ford is on a winning bow-tie streak. The designer was naturally dashing in a large one while he also dressed both best actor winner Colin Firth and Nicholas Hoult in smaller versions.
