Is it fair that some of television's most emotionally wrenching and nightmare-inducing moments came from supposedly light entertainment?
When we tune into a sitcom, cartoon, or low-conflict drama, are we expecting to be hit over the head with unspeakable tragedy and menace?
It's almost like biting into a Klondike bar and tasting spicy tobasco sauce instead.
Still, if you can memorably crush the audience's heart while still keeping with the show's spirit and tone, you can create television history.
Going through the list of sobs and shudders, I had to eliminate some classic TV moments because they were either "Goodbye Episodes" (and Goodbyes are just sad in general) or because they were on a show that wasn't exactly safe to begin with.
(Sorry, Roseanne, All in the Family, Scrubs, and M*A*S*H -- you were never light!)
Otherwise, here are ten of the heaviest moments from light entertainment,...

Will Friedle isn’t the type of person to answer his phone while at a lunch — especially at a work lunch. In fact, he may have better manners than anyone I’ve ever met. But this was an exception.
We’d been sitting for about 10 minutes — Friedle, Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and me — gathered around a corner booth in a Studio City restaurant.
“Oh, my gosh, I’m sorry, I have to take this,” he says after pulling his iPhone out of his pocket. He quickly turns it around, showing the group the names that are scrolling across the screen: “Bill & Bonnie Daniels.”
It was just a check in from Mr. (and Mrs.) Feeny and no, it wasn’t a planned call. It was simply an example of how most (more on that later) of this cast is actually still close.
“As a blanket statement, ‘Boy Meets World’ is an...

Adam Scott had a “horrifying” experience while filming Boy Meets World in 1995 – and finally addressed it with the actor involved.
The Severance star appeared in the teen series as Griff, making his debut in season two. Scott was present on set the day filming wrapped on the season, which turned into a day Scott has remembered negatively for almost 29 years.
Appearing on Pod Meets World, hosted by actors Rider Strong (Shawn), Danielle Fishel (Topanga) and Will Frieldle (Eric), Scott said: “I get to finally ask Rider about this thing – this has literally been tugging at me for 29 years.”
He explained: “It was the season finale of season two. There was a scene going on that was the last scene that would be shot for the season. I was on the side watching.
“We were all gathering around knowing the last scene was about to finish, and the scene ends. I...

(Welcome to Animation Celebration, a recurring feature where we explore the limitless possibilities of animation as a medium. In this edition: "Eight Crazy Nights.")
A box-office bomb and absolutely eviscerated by critics upon release, Adam Sandler's "Eight Crazy Nights" is an oft-maligned Hanukkah film filled with questionable attempts at humor, but with ridiculously impressive animation that showcases some of the best in 2D animation. Sandler stars as Davey Stone, a 33-year-old drunk who gets himself in trouble with the law after his narcissistic alcoholic tendencies get the better of him. In an attempt to offer Davey a chance at redemption under the guise of "holiday spirit," the judge orders him to spend the holiday season doing community service as the assistant referee for a youth basketball league. He has to stay out of trouble or face jail time. Davey thinks he's getting off easy until he meets the head referee — the eccentric,...

Trina McGee, who played Angela Moore on the hit ABC series Boy Meets World, has opened up about her character–particularly how she wasn’t featured on the series finale.
On a recent episode of the podcast Pod Meets World–in which former Boy Meets World stars Rider Strong, Danielle Fishel and Will Friedle rewatch episodes of the beloved series–Trina McGee went into details surrounding her lack of involvement and Angela’s absence.
“I was told, in kind of a weird off-handed way by a very important person, that you guys all went to [showrunner] Michael Jacobs, and you said ‘We don’t want her in the last episode. She’s somehow taking our light.’ That was the gist of it.”
Friedle, who played dopey older brother Eric Matthews for the show’s run, denied Trina McGee’s history, to which McGee responded, “I believe you. I can tell by [the hosts’] reactions.

It’s the 10th Pixar title to take an Oscar since the category was created in 2001.

We’re just proud to be among them,” said Nielsen after accepting the Oscar, “We take great pride in the fact that we get to make family films, and ‘Toy Story 4’ is a love letter to our families.”
“We want to thank the moviegoing audience so much, especially those that grew up with ‘Toy Story.’ We hope that your adventures with Woody and Buzz made growing up a little bit easier,” said Cooley.

If there was any franchise that didn’t seem to warrant any continuation, it was the Toy Story series. The nearly perfect trilogy, whose first movie launched Pixar and changed the animation game back in 1995, came to a darker but profoundly moving close in 2010 with Toy Story 3. It seemed as if there were very few places that the story of Woody, Buzz, and the rest of Andy’s anthropomorphic toys--now belonging to toddler Bonnie at the third film’s fadeout--could have gone after that.
But business rules all in the world of high-roller Hollywood filmmaking, and the nearly $2 billion grossed by the Toy Story films (let alone merchandise and other ancillary profit streams) almost demanded that the series continue. So now nine years after we bid farewell in Toy Story 3,...

Disney has released a final trailer for Toy Story 4 before the film hits theaters on June 21.
Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So, when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy.
But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior.

There’s a new toy in the bin at Bonnie’s place.
Disney wrapped up its presentation at CinemaCon, the annual exhibition trade show currently underway in Las Vegas, by giving the crowd of theater owners an exclusive look at the first 17 minutes of “Toy Story 4.”
The new footage shows Woody and crew adjusting to life under new ownership. The last installment, “Toy Story 3,” ended with the toy’s long-time owner Andy passing his beloved friends to Bonnie before heading off to college.
“Toy Story 4” begins with a distraught Bonnie, who doesn’t want to leave her toys behind, preparing for her kindergarten orientation. Her toys are her close confidants at home, but at school, Bonnie has trouble making new friends. It doesn’t get any easier for her when, after her teacher tasks the students with decorating a cup, a male classmate comes over and snatches...

Here’s some very cool and exciting news for Toy Story 4. I’ve been wondering who would replace Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head in the film, but it turns out even though the actor and comedian passed away in 2017, they didn’t have to replace him!
Thant’s right! Director Josh Cooley has announced the voice of Mr. Potato Head will be that of Don Rickles! Now, the actor didn’t record anything for the film before he died, and while it’s not explained how they will be able to use Rickles voice, I imagine that they were able to piece together archived recordings from the first three films.
You can find the announcement below:
“Some people say funny things, I say things funny.” -Don Rickles
All of his pieces may be replaceable, but his voice is not. Honored he signed on for TS4, honored he’s in TS4. pic.

“Some people say funny things, I say things funny.” -Don Rickles
All of his pieces may be replaceable, but his voice is not. Honored he signed on for TS4, honored he’s in TS4. pic.

Earlier in the week, a New Trailer dropped for Pixar’s hotly anticipated sequel Toy Story 4. Apologies for not getting to it sooner, but we’re here now. Personally, I’ve long been of two minds about this effort. On the one hand, Toy Story is my favorite animated franchise and some of the finest hours within the Pixar oeuvre. On the other hand, Toy Story 3 wrapped up the series brilliantly, with such a perfect ending it can be almost impossible to duplicate. Well, this Trailer is out and seeks to show why a new outing is necessary. You can see it at the end of the post, as you’d expect, so read on for more on Toy Story 4… The film is the latest installment in the Toy Story franchise. Here, the adventures of our favorite toys continue on, though in a whole new way. Here...

We’ve got some new Toy Story 4 details to share with you thanks to some new footage that was recently screened for some Disney shareholders. I wish I was a Disney shareholder right now! They’ve gotten to see footage from some of their most highly anticipated films!
The footage screened offers some new information on the character Forky (Tony Hale), who was introduced in the first teaser trailer that was released. It also offers story details regarding Woody (Tom Hanks) and Bo Peep (Annie Potts) and how Woody will be faced with a hard decision as he has to choose between the little girl Bonnie or Bo.
Here are scene descriptions that were shared by Scott Ledewig on Twitter:
Toy Story 4... Bonnie makes Forky at school, Woody introduces him to everyone. They go on a road trip in a Rv, Forky escapes because he wants to be a spork not a toy.

Leave it to Disney to have the last word in the Super Bowl. Right when the Patriots defeated the Rams in what could probably be the blandest Super Bowl, a new sneak peek at Toy Story 4 came in to add some fun and excitement to the mix.
The short, yet enjoyable Super Bowl spot has Woody (Tom Hanks) and Bo Peep (Annie Potts) searching for Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) in what seems like a new town for them. As they enjoy a local carnival, it turns out he is trapped as a prize at one of the games and he is being taunted by new characters Ducky and Bunny played by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele respectively.
Here’s the logline for the new installment of Toy Story 4: Woody has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid,...

Bo Peep is back, along with the rest of the gang in the first official trailer for “Toy Story 4.”
Sporting a new look, complete with a purple cape, a light blue pantsuit, and a much more commanding demeanor, everyone’s favorite porcelain sheepherder is joined by a host of returning characters including Woody, Buzz, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, Hamm, and Slinky Dog.
Bo Peep’s updated look isn’t the only new addition to the franchise. Joining the cast is Tony Hale, who’s voicing a new character named Forky – more of an arts and crafts project than a toy – as well as comedy duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, who are playing a plush duck and bunny, respectively.
Both appeared in various teasers prior to the trailer, hinting at a much more expanded universe, rife with new toys for the franchises’ classic characters to interact with.

A new plaything joins the old gang for next summer’s Toy Story 4, from Disney Pixar, and this new teaser trailer sets the table for his arrival.
“I don’t belong here,” screams Forky, “I’m not a toy!”.
As the welcoming tones of Judy Collins’ version of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” play out, the familiar pals from the previous films – Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Rex, Slinky Dog, etc. – appear in ring-around-the-rosie style, finally coming to Forky, a plastic utensil child-crafted with pipe-cleaners and google eyes. Chaos follows.
The new character is voiced by comedian Tony Hale (Veep). Says director Josh Cooley, “Like most people, I assumed that Toy Story 3 was the end of the story. And it was the end of Woody’s story with Andy. But just like in life, every ending is a new beginning.

New Music Express is reporting that with the tragic passing of legendary comedian Don Rickles on April 6th, the role of Mr. Potato Head in Toy Story 4 may be in doubt. The film, which had recently been pushed back to 2019 to make room for The Incredibles 2, is still in the process of rewrites which means no one has recorded a word of dialogue for the film. This is not the first time this has happened to a Toy Story production as Jim Varney, who played Slinky Dog, passed away in 2000 shortly after the release of Toy Story 2. His role was recast for Toy Story 3 in 2010 by Blake Clark.
Even before the passing of Mr. Rickles, I questioned why Toy Story 4 was being made. I'll admit I had the same feeling before Toy Story 3 and that ended up being the best film of the bunch so...

McGee will be joined by Blake Clark — who played Shawn's dead-beat, but beloved father, Chet Hunter — and the two will make their Disney Channel debut with Shawn and the new Matthews family next season, ETonline can exclusively confirm.
Keeping with the theme of the BMW family, William Russ — aka Cory's father Allen Matthews — will be directing the upcoming episode.
Be honest, who else is doing the Cory and Shawn happy dance right now?
