The list of people that bug Larry David could fill a phone book, but one target of his general disdain for humanity isn’t one we would have expected: Elmo – and he’s not even human! The same week that Elmo began trending for doing a wellness check on his followers, Larry David did what so many wanted to do when Tickle Me Elmo came out. Yes, Larry David assaulted Elmo…and he’d do it again if he had the chance.
When asked about the incident not too long ago on Today – in which Larry David grabbed Elmo’s face and swatted at his father, Louie – David told Seth Meyers, “Elmo was talking. I was waiting to be interviewed, and Elmo was going on about mental health and I had to listen to every word. And I was going, ‘Oh my God, oh my God, I don’t think...

While I don't hate any of the "Tmnt" movies (not even the confused patchwork that is the Michael Bay-produced 2014 big screen reboot), director Steve Barron's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is the only one I would venture so far as to call a genuinely good film. Unlike the other "Tmnt" movies to date, Barron's 1990 flick serves up plenty of silly Turtle-related hijinks while also being serious and even moving when it needs to be, creating a vision of New York City that feels lived-in and real. That's no minor achievement, either, given this version of NYC is swarming with masked ninjas, mutated reptiles, and a giant talking rat voiced by original Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash.
Equally good is the voice work for the Turtles themselves in the film. Brian Tochi, who evolved into a prolific voice actor starting in the '90s, lends his vocals to Leonardo, the...

Chicago – The most noteworthy feature of the puppet-noir comedy “The Happytime Murders” is its use of felt and fluff for nefarious ends, and while that’s not exactly new, there’s no reason it shouldn’t work. But the movie shoots its wad early, and doesn’t have much imagination after that beyond turning silly string into a bodily fluid.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
So once you’ve seen the puppets drinking, smoking, watching porn, doing drugs and having violent puppet sex, there’s not much else left. In a parallel world occupied by humans and puppets, the story centers on a former puppet police detective turned private dick named Phil (voiced by puppeteer Bill Baretta), who is investigating the murders of the cast members of a hit puppet TV show called “The Happytime Gang” … and his brother is one of the dead cast members. To solve the case, he’s forced to...

Believe it or not, The Happytime Murders isn’t the dirtiest film of the year. Sure, the Trailers suggested something so raunchy your mind almost shut down, but that’s merely part of this flick. There’s also an actual murder mystery to solve. Opening this week, it offers up something interesting for the late summer. Reviews haven’t been good, but I’ll stand out on a limb and state that I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. It’s not going to win any awards and probably is on the forgettable side, all things told, but it makes you laugh. If you like raunchy humor and puppets, you’ll like what’s being offered up here. As you’ve gathered by now, the film is a mix of puppetry and humans, thrown into a comedic detective tale. Here is the official synopsis: “In the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles,...

Bryan Singer, who was fired from directing 20th Century Fox’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” on December 4, has been named as the defendant in a rape lawsuit filed today in Washington state. The plaintiff, Cesar Sanchez-Guzman, claims that Singer sexually assaulted him on a yacht in approximately 2003, when he was 17 years old.
Allegedly, after meeting Singer at a yacht party, Sanchez-Guzman was invited to tour the vessel, owned by Lester Waters, who is identified in the filing as “a wealthy tech investor who frequently hosted parties for young gay males in the Seattle area.” (According to LinkedIn, Waters was the chief technology officer for Meridian Group in Seattle at the time.) The yacht was bound for Lake Union and Lake Washington, and alcohol was served onboard.

Did you know that around 20 percent of the films released in the UK are documentaries? It’s a surprisingly large figure. I think the reason behind it might be that ‘documentary’ is considered to be a genre in and of itself. “And the Academy Award for best documentary feature goes to…”. They're all lumped into the same bracket. Also, they're relatively cheap to make and can be assembled independently by a team of only a few people. Success at the box office is often down on the priorities list for creators wanting to spread a message, tell a story or get a point across and, when they only need to recoup that small amount to be considered successful, documentary cinema becomes fertile ground for ambitions to grow in.

So it’s already bad enough to know that Ticke Me Elmo was originally voiced by an accused pedophile. That’s right Kevin Clash, we haven’t forgotten about the fact that you like the same children that you’re catering to with Elmo’s voice only you don’t want to just make them smile, you want them to make you smile in more ways than one. Gross, disturbing and I’m sorry for bringing that name back into the mix. Speaking of disturbing, have you ever seen what a Tickle Me Elmo doll looks like without the fur? Big Bird is familiar to countless people of multiple generations all around the world who grew up watching “Sesame Street.” But who’s the man behind (or inside, actually) the 8-foot-tall, perpetually six-years-old, 4,000-feathers-covered bird? That would be Caroll Spinney, who has puppeteered Big Bird since the first “Sesame Street” episode aired in 1969. He also puppeteers Big Bird’s next-door neighbor, Oscar the Grouch. Now 81, Spinney still works on the PBS show as both characters and has no plans for retirement. Spinney is the subject of new documentary “I Am Big Bird” (now available to VOD and iTunes in a limited theatrical release), a sweet, reverent tribute to the man behind the yellow feathers. The film puts a spotlight on both his joyous and difficult times on “Sesame Street” and features archival footage and interviews with Spinney, his wife and several “Sesame Street” cast and crew members. Here are the...

8 Feet Tall and Light as a Feather: Walker and Lamattina Chronicle the Life and Love of a Puppeteering Legend
You’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t know Big Bird. Of the many beloved creatures that sprang from the genius of Jim Henson, Sesame Street’s Big Bird may well be the most universally recognizable. Bearing the spirit of a child within the body of an 8-foot canary yellow behemoth, Big Bird became a larger than life icon of children’s television. Yet, despite Caroll Spinney’s famed collaborators and lengthy list of accolades that include Emmys, Grammys, and even a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, you may not recognize the lanky, mop-headed man who has brought the bird, as well as Oscar the Grouch, to life for the last 45 years. With the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie coming out soon, I thought it would be fun to check out some trivia about the original 1990 live-action movie. I loved that movie, and I recently watched it again with my kids. Yeah, it does not stand the test of time, but it's still very enjoyable, and I loved how dark it was.

After having been accused of sexual misconduct with minors, Kevin Clash, the subject of Sundance award-winning documentary "Being Elmo," has been cleared of all charges. The Hollywood Reporter reports the charged have been dismissed by the U.S. Court of Appeals. Though the charges were dismissed last year due to the statute of limitations on sexual abuse (the alleged crimes took place over ten years ago), Clash's three accusers later brought the case to the U.S. Court of Appeals and claimed that psychological damage hadn't fully occurred until long after the alleged incidents took place.

Kevin Clash, the voice of Sesame Street's Elmo for 28 years, has been cleared of three charges of sexual abuse after an appeals court threw out the cases. Clash, 53, was accused by multiple men of sexually abusing them over 10 years ago when they were minors. Multiple lawsuits were filed, but in July 2013, a New York judge said that the claims were made too late, as they were outside the state's statute of limitations, which provides that a lawsuit has to be filed within six years of the event or three years after a plaintiff turns 21. Kevin Clash is almost in the clear. A New York appellate court has upheld the July 2013 dismissal of three sexual-abuse lawsuits filed against the man who puppeted Sesame Street favorite Elmo for almost 30 years before leaving the show in the wake of scandalous accusations. It was determined last summer that the plaintiffs, who filed suit separately but were being represented by the same attorney, had failed to meet the statute of limitations for civil action in their respective cases. And the U.S. Court of Appeals in New York agreed that the case was rightly dismissed because the plaintiffs didn't give any compelling reason as to why they were "unable to discover their injuries...

X-Men director Bryan Singer has been accused of sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy.
According to The Wrap, a lawsuit against the 48-year-old was filed in a federal court in Hawaii on Wednesday (April 16) relating to alleged incidents dating back to 1999.
The plaintiff Michael Egan was a model and aspiring actor at the time, and claims that he was subjected to drugs, alcohol and threats as part of a wider "group of adult males similarly positioned in the entertainment industry". Digital Entertainment Network chairman Marc Collins-Rector - a registered sex offender - is alleged to have initiated the sexual abuse.
Egan apparently met Singer at "notorious parties" in Encino, California where the director allegedly told him that M & C Estate residents "controlled Hollywood" and could decide whether his "career aspirations and hopes would be realised". Singer also allegedly witnessed Egan being warned to keep those men "happy" or risk putting himself and his family in danger.

This new Blu-ray set gathers together the three live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies in one collection. Matt takes a look...
I was invited along to Legoland as part of their bank holiday Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles weekend back in August by Nickelodeon (the show is expected to return to Nick in November). Initially confused by the ridiculous number of short people (many of whom were dressed as Ninja Turtles) surrounding me, I soon became aware that the place was being overrun by a swarm of sherbert-huffing hyperactive children.
Obviously, I was livid. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is for my generation. I tried to explain to them that they were ruining my childhood, but they were so busy enjoying theirs that they hardly paid me any notice, no matter how furiously I screamed. The Legoland staff was similarly disinterested in my distress, but they were practically children themselves.

Three men who accused Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash of sexual abuse only to have their case thrown out on a techncality have appealed to the federal court, according to legal documents obtained by TheWrap. The accusers' lawsuit was tossed in June by a New York judge who said the statute of limitations had run out. New York state laws dictate that a lawsuit be filed within six years of the event in question or three years after the plaintiff turns age 21. Clash's attorneys convinced the state judge that the accusers failed...

Kevin Clash, the scandal-beset former puppeteer and voice of "Sesame Street" character Elmo, is seeking to have a fourth lawsuit accusing him of underage sex dismissed, after prevailing in three other similar lawsuits. In a brief filed in U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania on Thursday, Clash argues that the lawsuit brought by accuser Sheldon Stephens, on the grounds that Sheldon's claim is barred by the statute of limitations. Kevin Clash, the Emmy-winning Elmo puppeteer and target of a trio of lawsuits alleging underage sex abuse, is "pleased" after a New York City judge ruled Monday that his accusers' claims were filed too late and are thereby barred by the statute of limitations. "Kevin is pleased by the judge's decision," his attorney, Michael G. Berger, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "As we have maintained all along, our goal has been to put these spurious claims behind him so that Kevin can go about the business of re-claiming his personal life and his professional standing, which

Providing the most conflicted happy ending since The Monster At The End Of This Book—where it’s revealed that the “monster” is only loveable, furry old Grover, and that you’ll spend your life plagued by such needless fears and ultimate disappointment—former Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash won’t face three sexual abuse lawsuits that we’ve all nevertheless faced already. A federal judge has dismissed allegations that Clash lured three men into sexual relationships when they were only teenagers, saying the statute of limitations has run out on claims filed “more than six years after each plaintiff reasonably ...

Kevin Clash, the puppeteer and the voice behind Elmo on "Sesame Street," was forced to leave the show after four young men came forward with claims that Clash had sex with them when they were just children. While Hollywood continued to praise Clash, most people wanted nothing to do with him, especially parents who let their kids watch "Sesame Street." But now comes word that a Manhattan District Court has dismissed three of the lawsuits filed by the young men against Clash. The reason behind the dismissal wasn't because Clash was found not guilty of the crimes, but because a judge ruled that the accusers waited too long to sue. The lawyer who represents the men vowed to "appeal the decision and continue the fight." The only lawsuit still pending was filed by Sheldon Stephens, now 24-years-old, who was the first one to publicly claim he had a sexual relationship...

Sesame Street's former Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash will not be charged in any of the three sexual abuse lawsuits leveled at him; a New York judge ruled that the statute of limitations on the accusations has run out. Kevin Clash, the longtime voice of "Sesame Street" puppet Elmo, was handed a victory on Monday (July 1) in three lawsuits that alleged he had sexual relations with minors.
The allegations of sexual abuse arose in October of 2012, prompting Clash to resign from his post at the venerable children's TV institution. The puppeteer was sued several times, but a New York judge says the claims were filed too late and thus outside the statute of limitations.
Each of the three lawsuits cite incidents that occurred at least ten years ago, while the statute says that a lawsuit has to be filed within six years of the event or three years after a plaintiff turns 21.
U.S. District Judge John Koeltl ordered the clerk to enter his judgement, making all claims made by the three accusers time-barred, and close all pending motions against Clash.

New York — Three lawsuits brought by men who said former Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash sexually abused them when they were underage were tossed out by a judge who said in a decision published Monday that the men waited too long to sue.
U.S. District Judge John G. Koeltl said the claims must be barred because they came more than six years after the men reasonably should have realized that the physical and emotional injuries they're suing over were caused by alleged encounters with Clash. The judge also noted that each man had been over the age of 18 for more than three years before the lawsuits were filed.
Clash was the man behind Elmo, the popular furry red monster, for 28 years.
Attorneys for the men promised an appeal while Clash said through his lawyer that he hoped the ruling would help him recover personally and professionally.
One other lawsuit is pending in Pennsylvania.

Three sex suits against former Elmo voice Kevin Clash were thrown out of court on Monday (July 1) after the plaintiffs failed to meet filing deadlines in the case.
A Manhattan judge wrote in his decision, "The complaints in these cases were filed more than six years after the defendant's conduct with each plaintiff ended."
The three accusers all alleged that Mr. Clash lured the in to underage sexual relationships in 1996, 2003 and 2005.
Saying they did not know the "adverse psychological and emotional effects" of the encounters until last year, the plaintiffs claim they were not aware of the 6 year filing limit.

Time was on Kevin Clash's side. The embattled Elmo puppeteer scored a trio of legal victories Monday when a New York district judge dismissed three sexual-abuse lawsuits after ruling that they were all filed too late. The 52-year-old had been besieged by a barrage of accusations beginning last fall, all alleging that Clash had engaged in sexual acts with underage boys. Citing a statute of limitations, U.S. District Court Judge John G. Koeltl tossed out lawsuits brought against Clash by three plaintiffs: Cecil Singleton, Kevin Kiadii and an unnamed John Doe. In his complaint, Singleton, a New York resident, claimed that he met Clash on a gay telephone chat line when he was 15 years old, and that...

A New York judge has tossed out three lawsuits filed by men who alleged that former Elmo actor Kevin Clash sexually abused them when they were underage.
U.S. District Judge John G. Koeltl said in a decision published Monday that the claims came more than six years after each man reasonably should have become aware of Clash's alleged violations, and over three years after each had turned 18.

Clash, 52, resigned from Sesame Street last November after college student Cecil Singleton sued him for more than $5 million and accused the puppeteer of having sex with him when he was 15. A trio of sex with minors cases against former Sesame Street puppeteer Kevin Clash were dismissed today based on the statute of limitations. A U.S District judge ruled Monday that Clash’s accusers had six years to file claims against the Elmo voicer and all missed the deadline. Judge John Koeltl wrote that claims by the trio that they were unaware until last year of the psychological and emotional effects of what happened simply didn’t make sense. “They were aware of the facts that while minors, the defendant had engaged in sexual activities with them in violation of one or more federal statutes,” noted the NY-based federal judge in a 28-page opinion and order (read it here) “For the reasons explained above, the defendant’s motion to dismiss is granted. The Clerk is directed to enter judgment and to close these cases,” the judge added. The cases dismissed today were from Cecil Singleton,...

Should the ‘Sesame Street’ stars be used as poster-children for same-sex marriage? The debate begins!
For as long as Bert and Ernie have shared a one-bedroom apartment on Sesame Street, the public has speculated about the pair’s relationship, with many assuming the felt-skinned ‘friends’ are actually something more. The New Yorker‘s latest cover — which features the Muppet-y men cuddling on their couch, watching a news report about the Supreme Court overturning the Defense of Marriage Act — is bringing new attention to the are-they-or-aren’t-they debate. And, naturally, the controversial cover is being met with mixed reviews.
Jack Hunter, who illustrated the controversial cover, posted a statement on The New Yorker‘s official website.
“It’s amazing to witness how attitudes on gay rights have evolved in my lifetime,” he said. “This is great for our kids, a moment we can all celebrate.”
