Kerry Washington To Revive 'Desperate Housewives' With 'Wisteria Lane'
Image
The Desperate Housewives are getting new neighbors. Well, sorta. Marc Cherry's iconic ABC television series is being brought back to life by Kerry Washington and The Flight Attendantshowrunner Natalie Chaidez. Taking place under Disney's Onyx Collective banner, the new series, called Wisteria Lane as a nod to the original show's iconic neighborhood/street, is said to be "a re-imagining" of the old show, which followed the shocking and mysteriously dramatic lives of a handful of families living on the aforementioned street.

The news, first reported by Deadline, comes as no surprise given the ABC series' 20th anniversary back in 2024. Though not involved in this project, the show's continued fandom thanks to streaming — coupled with Cherry's previous comments about wanting to revisit the universe of Wisteria Lane — makes it the exact sort of property to revisit in an era of new social mores but no less drama. But before you get too excited,...

Marcia Cross Reprises ‘Desperate Housewives’ Role In Surreal Promo For Series Mania

The fest has made it something of a tradition to release a promo featuring major TV stars in silly scenarios over recent years.

‘Desperate Housewives’ Creator Marc Cherry Says He Envies ‘Real Housewives’ Producers: “A Train That Keeps on Chugging”
Image
Desperate Housewives showrunner Marc Cherry knows that Real Housewives may have been inspired by his ABC show, but he isn’t upset about the Bravo franchise’s success.

The writer-producer revealed to People that he understands why the Real Housewives production team developed the show, which premiered in 2006 in Orange County, California, following the success of Desperate Housewives, which ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012.

“They didn’t crib my name, to be fair to them,” Cherry said about the Bravo franchise in a story published Thursday. “They just used the word. Our show came out, and they capitalized on that. And you know what? That’s the capitalistic system.”

The showrunner added that people often confuse the two shows because the Real Housewives franchise “continues to be out there,” producing new series and spinoffs. Cherry lists Tommy Tune as one of the celebrities who accidentally swapped the two series in conversation.

You Can’t Not Watch Knots Landing on Amazon Prime
Image
Here’s a fun fact to blow your minds: Yes, technically, Knots Landing is a spin-off from mega-hit Dallas. Gary Ewing is the middle brother of Jr and Bobby Ewing, who made one appearance on the Mother Ship show, played by David Ackroyd before Ted Shackelford took over the role for the next decade-plus.

But the original Kl concept pre-dated Dallas. It was supposed to be an American version of the Swedish series Scenes From a Marriage by Ingemar Bergman. That series didn’t get picked up. But when CBS wanted a Dallas spin-off, Lorimar made one of the characters a Ewing, and we were off to the races! You can watch the entire series from the start right here on Amazon Prime. Here’s why you should definitely do that.

Eva Longoria Decries Industry Obsession With Talent Only Working On One Show At A Time: “Our Business Is So Slow”
Image
Eva Longoria wants to keep busy.

The ex-Desperate Housewives star and now-Hyphenate Media boss decried an industry obsession with talent only working across one show at a time.

“Our business is so slow,” said Longoria at Content London. “That’s the problem with the industry it’s like, ‘Wait you can only do one show’ and I’m like, ‘No you can do more things than one’.”

This notion especially applies to women, Longoria joked, who said: “If you want to get something done, then ask a busy woman.”

Hyphenate recently struck a deal with One Day at a Time co-creator Gloria Calderón Kellett, who was previously signed up with Amazon Studios. Speaking alongside each other today, the pair said Kellett being able to work across multiple projects was crucial in her signing with Hyphenate, and she has 23 projects in various stages of development.

Image
Desperate Housewives fans got some good news this week after the show’s creator, Marc Cherry, revealed he has “a couple of ideas” for a potential spinoff series set in the 1960s. Speaking to People on Wednesday, November 27, Cherry touched on the possible reboot, saying, “I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade. Desperate Housewives Creator Has An Idea For A Prequel: "The Character I Miss Writing... Is Actually Wisteria Lane"
Image
Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry reveals his prequel idea for the seminal ABC drama. The topic of rebooting Desperate Housewives resurfaces occasionally, usually around an anniversary or when one of the main cast members has a new project to promote. Cherry has largely maintained that a revival of the popular nighttime soap wouldn't work without the original stars, giving credit to Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, and Teri Hatcher. But his latest pitch sidesteps that entirely.

In new comments to People, Cherry shares his prequel idea for Desperate Housewives and mentions that it would be focused on the fictional street of Wisteria Lane. The prequel idea, which comes as the series is celebrating its 20th anniversary, would dig deeper into the central location that was the hub of so many secrets and scandals during the eight-season run of the original. Cherry explains in the quote below:

Cherry shared his thoughts in a recent interview with People, where he reflected on the enduring appeal of Wisteria Lane, the fictional street that served as the heart of the series.

“I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade,” said Cherry. “The character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane. That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had, because we owned the whole street.”

Desperate Housewives, which aired on ABC for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012, followed the lives of the residents of Wisteria Lane in the fictional town of Fairview. The show starred Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Eva Longoria, among others,...

'Desperate Housewives' Prequel Series & Wisteria Lane as a Character Addressed by Creator Marc Cherry
Image
A trip back to Wisteria Lane might be in the cards if creator Marc Cherry has his way. Fresh off the series celebrating its 20th anniversary last month, the Desperate Housewives creator is revealing that he would love to revisit the series, but he would want to do it during a completely different era and to be able to write a very specific character again.

During a chat with People, Cherry revealed that he would love to do a Desperate Housewives prequel series set in the '60s. The Emmy-nominated showrunner said, "I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade. Because the character I miss writing the most is Wisteria Lane. That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had, because we owned the whole street."

Desperate Housewives ran from 2004 to 2012, and it was pretty popular throughout much of its run,...

‘Desperate Housewives’ Reboot Would Likely Be Set in ‘Earlier Decade’ Such as 1966, Says Creator: ‘The Character I Miss Writing the Most Is Actually Wisteria Lane’
Image
“Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry is open to exploring a different era of Wisteria Lane.

In a recent interview with People magazine, Cherry pitched his idea for a prequel to the hit ABC series starring Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria.

“I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade,” Cherry told the publication. “Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane. That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had, because we owned the whole street. I know that street like the back of my hand. When someone shoots a commercial on that street, I know it instantly, because I know all those houses, I know the geography. It was such a fun place to write for. And there’s times when I go, ‘You know what? I wonder if I could write Wisteria Lane in like,...

‘Desperate Housewives’ Creator Suggests Spinoff Set in 1996: “I Have a Couple of Ideas”
Image
Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry says there are more than enough ideas for a spinoff of his beloved show — and he has a few ideas on how to make it happen.

“I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade,” Cherry — who guesses he’s had “about 70,000 people” ask him to do a reboot of the series — told People. “Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane. That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had, because we owned the whole street.”

ABC’s Desperate Housewives ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012, and won multiple Emmys. The show’s ensemble cast included Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria, and told the stories of Wisteria Lane, a street in the fictional town of Fairview, in fictional Eagle State.

‘Desperate Housewives’ Creator Wants to Do a Wisteria Lane Prequel Series Set in 1966
Image
“Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry has put some thought into a spinoff of the ABC hit set in 1966.

While talking with People in an interview published Wednesday, Cherry admitted mulling over a number of ways he could continue telling stories on Wisteria Lane – which he said he missed writing about as much as any of the characters. One specific idea that’s kept cropping up is a prequel series set in the 1960s.

“I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade,” Cherry said. “Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane. That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had, because we owned the whole street. I know that street like the back of my hand. Desperate Housewives' Creator Wants to Return to Wisteria Lane - But Not for a Reboot
Image
It's time to reopen that box of secrets down in Wisteria Lane as, after 20 years, the show's creator, Marc Cherry is ready to return to the drama-filled cul-de-sac. The Desperate Housewives creator and showrunner recently teased the possibility of a prequel series, revisiting the iconic setting from the long-running ABC hit in an earlier decade. Desperate Housewives became a cultural phenomenon during its eight-season run from 2004 to 2012. Starring Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan, the series followed the women of Wisteria Lane as they, well, behaved atrociously to get what they wanted, killing, stealing and doing all sorts in the wake of the mysterious suicide of their neighbor, Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong). And it was delightfully watchable trash.

Desperate Housewives Ending, Explained
Image
The Desperate Housewives ending wraps up eight seasons of mysteries in the picture-perfect suburban neighborhood, Wisteria Lane, and the ending answers big questions about what happens to main characters Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross), and Gabrielle "Gaby" Solis (Eva Longoria). Although Mary Alice Young's (Brenda Strong) friends have many happy times together, it was clear that the conclusion would be just as emotional as the rest of the series, as most episodes focus on the intense personal lives of the four main residents of this seemingly peaceful street in the small town of Fairview.

There are several mysteries in every season, from why Paul Young (Mark Moses) comes back home after a decade away to what Angie Bolen (Drea de Matteo) is hiding from. The best shows like Desperate Housewives have series finales that are gripping, memorable, and wrap up every major storyline,...

Alyssa Milano Pays Tribute to ‘Charmed’ Co-Star Shannen Doherty After ‘Complicated Relationship’: ‘The World Is Less Without Her’
Image
Alyssa Milano has paid tribute to her “Charmed” co-star Shannen Doherty, who died Saturday at age 53.

“It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of,” Milano said in a statement provided to Variety. “She was a talented actress, beloved by many and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”

Milano and Doherty starred alongside Holly Marie Combs in “Charmed,” in which they played a trio of magical sisters from 1998 until 2001 when Doherty’s character, Prue Halliwell, was killed off in the Season 3 finale. The show would air its eighth and final season in 2006.

As Milano referenced in her statement, she and Doherty had a “complicated” off-screen relationship for years. In December 2023, Combs claimed that Milano got Doherty fired from “Charmed,” to which Milano responded in an Instagram...

Desperate Housewives' Return Would Only Work Under 1 Condition
Image
Desperate Housewives cast is open to returning for a revival, hinting at a potential comeback with original characters front and center. A potential revival would need to honor the show's rich history and original cast, rather than wiping the slate clean for a reboot. Wisteria Lane and its core characters were essential to the show's success, making a comeback without them seem like a pale imitation.

Desperate Housewives is one of few shows where the cast is still interested in returning following a long and successful run, but it would only work under one condition. The hit drama focused on the lives and loves of a group of women living in the fictional Wisteria Lane. Each of the eight seasons had an overarching mystery that left many questions about what was happening behind closed doors for the cul-de-sac's residents. Despite Desperate Housewives ending after eight seasons in 2012, its cast has...

‘Only Murders in the Building’ Reveals Meta Roles for Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, and Zach Galifianakis in Season 4
Image
“Only Murders in the Building” will be getting even more murder-solvers with a meta twist.

The upcoming fourth season of the beloved Hulu series will star Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, and Eva Longoria as the film adaptation versions of Steve Martin’s Charles, Martin Short’s Oliver, and Selena Gomez’s Mabel, respectively.

Levy, Galifianakis, and Longoria were all previously announced as cast members, but there roles are now confirmed. All actors are playing versions of themselves.

Of course, Levy, Galifianakis, and Longoria are no strangers to TV. Levy led Emmy-winning viral series “Schitts Creek,” while Longoria appeared in the iconically camp ABC drama “Desperate Housewives.” Galifianakis starred alongside Ted Danson in the cult HBO comedy “Bored to Death,” another show that combined elements of comedy and murder mystery.

Per the official synopsis for “Only Murders in the Building” Season 4, the main trio’s investigation leads them all the way...

Everything You Need to Know About 'Desperate Housewives' Behind-the-Scenes Drama
Image
With any long-running TV show, there are bound to be rumors of behind-the-scenes drama and feuds. Most of the time these are just ploys to get people talking, but sometimes they have some weight behind them. Weve seen these kinds of stories come out of shows such as The Good Wife, where a feud between Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi almost tore the series apart. And, of course, the ever-infamous feud between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker on, and off, the set of Sex and the City. But theres another series that has its fair share of scandals: Desperate Housewives. The show follows four housewives; Susan (Teri Hatcher), Bree (Marcia Cross), Lynette (Felicity Huffman), and Gaby (Eva Longoria), and the dramas and scandals that fill their day-to-day lives. The inciting incident is the death of their friend and fellow housewife Mary Alice (Brenda Strong), and when they discover that...
